01:29 huesal I meant the server
01:31 Edgy1 oh
01:37 huesal what is happening when the loading screen says "Media... X%" ?? my server is very slow at that moment
01:39 Cornelia My guess is it's loading in assets.

01:41 huesal mods? mobs? objects? map data?
01:41 huesal maybe installing mods on client helps? so they dont need to be transfered

10:30 Copenhagen_Bram Hello
10:32 Copenhagen_Bram I have really low framerate in Minetest on a librebooted Lenovo Thinkpad T400 with an Intel GMA 4500MHD gpu. I've experienced this low framerate on the operating systems Parabola and GuixSD
10:35 rubenwardy Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 / 2.53 GHz     3GB RAM
10:35 rubenwardy try reducing the view range and/or turning off shaders
10:36 rubenwardy also try changing leaf style to simple
10:36 rubenwardy and water to opaque
10:36 rubenwardy optimisation patches welcome
10:40 prrpx joined #minetest
10:41 Copenhagen_Bram rubenwardy: no shaders, view range at minumum, opaque leaves, opaque water, framerate is still single digit
10:43 rubenwardy :/
10:43 rubenwardy pretty odd
10:43 rubenwardy single or multiplayer?
10:43 Copenhagen_Bram single
10:44 Copenhagen_Bram note that I've seen minetest run at a decent framerate on Parabola if I run it right after I boot
10:44 Copenhagen_Bram but the framerate will suddenly drop to single digit while I'm playing, if I play long enough
10:44 Copenhagen_Bram I haven't tested this on guixsd yet though
10:45 Copenhagen_Bram Someone from #guix believes that the -DENABLE_REDIS=0 option during compile might have something to do with performance. Is this true?
10:45 rubenwardy that's the backend used to worlds
10:46 rubenwardy by default sqlite is used
10:46 rubenwardy so it shouldn't make a different
10:46 rubenwardy worth seeing what your CPU and I/O usage is
10:47 rubenwardy to judge whether it's CPU, storage, or GPU limited
10:48 Copenhagen_Bram installing iotop and htop
10:48 Copenhagen_Bram even though i have no clue how to use iotop properly
10:48 rubenwardy lol
10:59 rubenwardy Have you tried running it on Ubuntu on that laptop?
11:03 Copenhagen_Bram rubenwardy: no
11:03 Copenhagen_Bram maybe i could try it with trisquel?
11:03 Copenhagen_Bram if I can run minetest on a live trisquel usb
11:07 rubenwardy Reason I ask is because I wonder if it is driver related
11:08 Copenhagen_Bram i wonder if i need a proprietary driver to run minetest :/
11:12 sfan5 intels graphics driver is open-source, so that shouldn't be the problem

18:57 Copenhagen_Bram Hey! I'm playing minetest and it's running at 50fps
18:59 Copenhagen_Bram Okay it just plummeted to 9fps. Just like it did in Parabola
18:59 Copenhagen_Bram rubenwardy: ^
19:05 Krock needs at least 60 fps!
19:05 Copenhagen_Bram Krock: to tell you the truth it did go up to 60fps
19:05 Copenhagen_Bram right after i said it was 50
19:08 Copenhagen_Bram I strongly believe that this is fixable. I think that amazing speed doesn't have to be temporary.

19:52 Astrobe Hmmm... I got huge freezes when I fast fly around, making the game generate a lot of blocks which results in RAM exhaustion. Maybe it's a ram issue?

20:56 Astrobe about line_of_sight()... Looking at the code in MobsRedo that uses it, it seems to me that a line_of_nodes() function would be more helpful.
