I've been thinking about getting a Pi 3, and if Minetest works and doesn't lag too badly, it would really be a good little device for those who don't want to buy a full on desktop. |

That's another thing; Minetest is pretty bad on my "Android" phone? |
15:11 |
endev15 |
*. not ? |
15:12 |
Zeno` |
endev15, it was playable |
15:12 |
endev15 |

15:12 |
Zeno` |
I didn't notice anything particularly slow but as I said it was a small world and only one player |
15:13 |
endev15 |
True, I guess if you got anything but the default in it might go pretty badly |
15:13 |
Zeno` |
hard to say without profiling it |
15:14 |
endev15 |
I'd like to know, especially on my subgame, because I've got some friends who would definitely get a Pi3 if it would run MT |

endev15, odroid is a small computer, like the PI, but way more powerful |
15:15 |
endev15 |
Oh I see. How much is it? And how well does it run MT? |
15:15 |
PilzAdam |
there are benchmarks for the Odroid XU4,, which costs arround $70, that suggests it's 15 times faster than the rPI 2 |
15:16 |
endev15 |
BTW, can anyone tell me how to move the hunger bar in BlockMen's hud_hunger modpack to above the health bar? |
15:16 |
endev15 |
I can't seem to figure out how to make the hud.conf.example work. |
15:16 |

it could probably even run the Minetest client, since it has a dedicated graphics chip |
15:17 |

I'll definetely look into that. |

dirius, the admin player has ALL privileges |
21:53 |
rubenwardy |
But other players will only have privs in default_privs (a setting) |
21:53 |
rubenwardy |
the admin player name is found by typing /admin in game, or looking at the name settng |
21:55 |
dirius |
Ah yeah I see it now. The admin is the first player who joins isn't it? |
21:56 |
H-H-H |
ty rubenwardy |
21:56 |
rubenwardy |
It's the player name in "name" the setting, dirius |
21:56 |
rubenwardy |
If you're hosting using the server tab, it's the hoster |
21:57 |
rubenwardy |
If you're hosting a dedicated version, it just looks at the name setting |
21:57 |
rubenwardy |
(Hosting via the server tab will change the name setting) |
21:57 |
dirius |
I'm hosting dedicated I believe. |
21:57 |

Note that the same setting is used for remembering the client's username as the admin's username |
21:58 |
dirius |
Alright. |

thanks. |
21:58 |

so if you host a server and connect to it from the same minetest location, it could change the name setting to something else |
21:58 |
rubenwardy |
Will only be visible if the server restarts, though |
21:58 |
dirius |
Alright. I'll just set the admin name to "admin" each time. |

21:59 |
rubenwardy |
yes |
21:59 |
rubenwardy |
actually |
21:59 |
rubenwardy |
--name might word |
21:59 |

*work |
21:59 |
endev15 |
BTW, how do I use rollback? |
21:59 |
rubenwardy |
eg, minetestserver --worldname world1 --name adminname |
22:00 |
endev15 |
I'll try that too |
22:00 |
rubenwardy |
never used rollback, there's probably a setting in minetest.conf or world.mt |
22:00 |
rubenwardy |
not sure if --name will work, though |
22:00 |
endev15 |
Because when I try and use it, I am told that rollback is disabled |
22:00 |
rubenwardy |
you need to enable it first |
22:00 |
endev15 |
How? |
22:00 |
rubenwardy |
rollback needs to record the history, so that it can undo it |
22:00 |
endev15 |
I've tried rollback = true in the conf |
22:01 |
rubenwardy |
I'm not sure, search for "rollback" in minetest.conf.example |
22:01 |
endev15 |
OK |
22:01 |
rubenwardy |
brb, restarting |
22:01 |
endev15 |
Just testing the -name now |
22:04 |
endev15 |
rubenwardy, --name <admin> does not work when starting the server with minetest --server. WIll try it in the conf though. |

So, I've been searching for a while. So, there is no quick explaination (other than perhaps inline programmer comment code in the minetest program itself obviously) of the map seed parameters for making a custom map? |
22:18 |
scottwolff |
i.e. say I want the map to be mountainous. |

Calinou, how do I use the oredefs to specify in depth how ores are registered? I couldn't make much by looking at moreores. |
22:20 |
endev15 |
Not registered, where they are found. Wow... |
22:20 |
Out`Of`Control |
look for y ? |

hmmmm |
erm |

endev15: y_min, y_max |

hmmmm |
knowledge of iterated fractal systems is more important to noise than analysis |
22:21 |
Calinou |
change those value in ore registrations |
22:21 |
endev15 |
I used hight_max and height_min |
22:21 |
Calinou |
it's y now, not height |
22:22 |
Calinou |
height is too abstracted! it's evil! it's too systemd! |
22:22 |
endev15 |
y_min and y_max? |
22:22 |
hmmmm |
yes please stop using deprecated fields |
22:22 |
endev15 |
Seriously, I did this a while ago. |
22:22 |
hmmmm |
i changed it because height_min/height_max was ambiguous |
22:23 |
endev15 |
Speaking of deprecated fields, when was tile_images changed to tiles? |
22:23 |

It should be fairly simple. |

hmmmm |
hah ah ha |
22:27 |
hmmmm |
you joke right |
22:27 |
endev15 |
why won't Atom launch... |
22:27 |
hmmmm |
if it's fairly simple you can do it |
22:27 |
endev15 |
nope. all you really have to do is update the nodebox on rightclick. |
22:28 |
hmmmm |
oh you mean just an opened chest |
22:28 |
hmmmm |
i thought you wanted the opening animation and all |
22:29 |
endev15 |
It would be nice to have it smooth, but not required. Even then, you would only have to run a loop to increase specific definitions 1 every 10th of a second or so (probably way off with my 10th of a second) |
22:30 |
endev15 |
Only thing with that would be doing it in a fashion to avoid the lag |
22:30 |
hmmmm |
assuming 1 every 5 seconds that's still 6 additional nodebox definitions |
22:30 |
hmmmm |
you figure the animation takes 5 seconds |
22:30 |
endev15 |
why not do it all in a loop |
22:31 |
hmmmm |
it's *doable* right now, sure, but it's a crappy way of doing it |
22:31 |
endev15 |
that should remove the need for the additional nodeboxes |
22:31 |
hmmmm |
because that's a hack |
22:31 |
hmmmm |
i guess you want one nodebox that's the chest, and an active object that hovers above the object and opens itself by changing its position ever so slightly in a loop |
22:32 |
hmmmm |
yes that is possible and if you want to make a mod for that then go ahead |
22:32 |
hmmmm |
i'd rather hold off until we get animated nodeboxes though |
22:32 |
endev15 |
yeah i'm not gonna be doing anything until june |
22:32 |
endev15 |
wait, then why can we animate textures? I assume thats two differen things? |
22:33 |
hmmmm |
textures are animated textures |
22:33 |
hmmmm |
what you want is to simulate a moving node |
22:33 |
endev15 |
lol i cant even update my depracated fields in my mods - atom wont launch |
22:33 |
hmmmm |
welp |

I'm just used to it going from 4.9 to 4.91, 4.92, and 4.93 with other programs. |
22:44 |
endev15 |

whoever manages mtgame |
22:45 |
endev15 |
well, guess i'll submit a PR sometime |
22:47 |
hmmmm |
my reasoning is this |
22:47 |
hmmmm |
ore is a type of mapgen object, it gets registered, there's a list of them maintained, they each have a name, id, so on and so forth |
22:47 |
hmmmm |
it's similar in that manner to decorations, schematics, and so on |
22:48 |
hmmmm |
so when i implemented randomized height for simple decorations i used the field height_max |
22:48 |
hmmmm |
that's the maximum height it could be |
22:48 |
hmmmm |
but i realized, wait, that field is already being used for the y position at which it can be spawned on the map |
22:49 |
hmmmm |
so i went back and changed it, and since ore was already existing, i had to change that too otherwise people would go 'wtf' |
22:49 |
endev15 |
yeah makes sense |
22:49 |
endev15 |
why do so many people put extra commas after the last line of code in a minetest.register function... its really annoying... |
22:51 |
KaadmY |
scottwolff: MT uses semantic versioning i think |
22:51 |
KaadmY |
so it would be 0.4.13, 0.4.14, 0.4.15 |
22:51 |
KaadmY |
and 0.4.9, 0.4.10, 0.4.11 |
22:52 |
KaadmY |
scottwolff: http://semver.org/ |
22:52 |
KaadmY |
endev15: that last comma is part of the style guidelines for MT code :( |
22:52 |
endev15 |
hmmmm, what's with print not working anymore to print to the log? |
22:52 |
endev15 |
really? |
22:52 |
KaadmY |
i think |
22:52 |
endev15 |
i've never used it. guess i should probably start then.. noticed it was used off and on in mapgen.lua |
22:53 |
scottwolff |
Ok. So Minetest is just in patch versions? |
22:53 |
hmmmm |
endev15, est messed it up since the server console patch :) |
22:53 |
KaadmY |
no idea scottwolff |
22:53 |
hmmmm |
not my problem! |
22:53 |
KaadmY |
pretty sure semantic version is used, might be a variation though |

22:53 |

so at this point i must use minetest.log? until that is fixed anyway |

hmmmm |
i don't know |
22:54 |
KaadmY |
and endev15, `grep '<string>' * -R` |
22:54 |
endev15 |
because minetest.log seems to work while a simple print doesnt. print is nicer is the thing, in some cased. that way for notifications that a mod properly loaded the time and date doesnt get printed too, which can be anoying for that type. |
22:55 |
