Hi. My game won't start. If I just run "minetest" it simply stops after Irrlicht log message with GLSL version, turning on "--trace" it stops after 'OpenALSoundManager: "main_menu" not found.', no menu opens. Only warning/error messages are that it cannot find the main_menu.[0-9].ogg files. |
11:40 |
Calinou |
efrahim, what operating system do you use? |
11:40 |
Calinou |
try self-compiling the game |
11:40 |
efrahim |
Calinou: GNU/Linux Gentoo |
11:40 |
Calinou |
http://github.com/minetest/minetest |
11:52 |
efrahim |
Calinou: Hmm... would be nice to figure out why it is wrong though. Anyhow, compiling the source from github gives me the error "Subgame specified in default_game [minetest] is invalid" |
11:53 |
efrahim |
Calinou: With "--trace" it stops at the same point as before. |
11:55 |
xenkey |
efrahim: did you clone minetest_game into games/ ? |
11:56 |
efrahim |
xenkey: woops. That solved the "default_game" error, still the same problem though. |
11:57 |
xenkey |
Try with -DENABLE_SOUND=1 |
11:57 |
Calinou |
sound is enabled by default |
11:57 |
xenkey |
Or whatever turns it on |
11:57 |
xenkey |
Hrm |
11:57 |
Calinou |
you need libogg, libvorbis, libopenal |
11:59 |
efrahim |
Calinou: they are all installed (and allready pulled in by Gentoo portage when installing mintest from portage) |
12:00 |
jin_xi |
maybe try --gameid list and then start with --gameid <game> |
12:01 |
|
turtleman_ joined #minetest |
12:01 |
Salbei |
efrahim: you use the version in portage? |
12:03 |
efrahim |
jin_xi: Tried all combinations of {minetest from portage, mintest from git} and {--gameid minetest, --gameid minimal} all game the same thing. |
12:04 |
efrahim |
Salbei: Yes and no. I'm testing with both now. |
12:04 |
Salbei |
efrahim: I have a layman overlay for gentoo users with the 0.4.12 inside: https://gitlab.com/Salbei/incolab-overlay |
12:04 |
Salbei |
minetest and minetest_game |
12:06 |
efrahim |
Tried to compile with "-sounds" from potage with gets rid of the "main_menu" error. Still the menu does not pop up (sometimes I'm able to see the main menu show up for an instance and then vanish) |
12:06 |
efrahim |
Salbei: ok. I would like not to use overlays, but I will take a look and see if it could help figure out the problem. |
12:26 |
efrahim |
Salbei: Hmm... that is even a not-in-layman type of overlay. The minetest 0.4.12 in games_overlay does not work, the difference seems to be (by comparing ebuilds) is where to place the binaries. Still, it has the same problem. |

I seem to have gotten somewhere. The windowed mode does not start at all, if I enable fullscreen in my minetest.conf the game starts in 800x600. If I add 1920x1080 also to my conf it does not start anymore, likely because when running "minetest --videomodes" a 1080 res is not there -- why? |
13:55 |

Zeno`: Full video modes list: http://pastebin.com/XyBw8kKB Not sure what you mean. What I meant is that if a put "fullscreen = false" in my config, a window appears for an instance and then vanish and I get no error, if I instead put "fullscreen = true" it starts, but only on a few choices for video modes. |
14:29 |
Zeno` |
type: xdpyinfo | grep dimensions |
14:29 |
Zeno` |
(in a console) |
14:31 |
efrahim |
Zeno`: Outpout: "dimensions: 2944x1080 pixels (774x284 millimeters)" |
14:33 |
efrahim |
Zeno`: That is a funny one since I have xrandr set up to give VGA output (1920+1024)x(max(1080,768)). |
14:35 |
Zeno` |
I don't see 1920x1080 there |
14:35 |
efrahim |
Zeno`: However, running minetest in fullscreen with, say, 1024x768 disables what I have setup with xrandr (in the sense that my desktop is no longer 2944 pixels wide) and still I have the same problem. |
14:36 |
Zeno` |
so xrandr (just type that) shows 1920x1080? |
14:36 |
|
Haudegen joined #minetest |
14:37 |
Zeno` |
xrandr | grep + will probably show your desktop resolution |
14:38 |
Zeno` |
it might be a driver issue and/or xorg setup |
14:39 |
efrahim |
Zeno`: Yes and no. It shows for my eDPI output 1920x1080 (primary) and for my VGA1 output 1024x768. (xrandr that is) |
14:39 |
Zeno` |
odd |
14:39 |
efrahim |
Zeno`: Well, I would guess that it is some incompatability feature between Irrlicht and xrandr... maybe? |
14:39 |
Zeno` |
irrlicht thinks you're using 1024x768 |
14:40 |
Zeno` |
are you using multiple monitors? |
14:41 |
efrahim |
Zeno`: Yes I am. I have a projector plugged in. And yes, It seems as Irrlicht ignores that eDPI is set to be primary and uses my VGA as primary, since the available modes for VGA are the same as I get from "minetest --videomodes" |
14:41 |
Zeno` |
yeah |
14:41 |
Zeno` |
I don't know what to suggest |
14:42 |
Zeno` |
but if VGA is your primary then of course that's what irrlicht will use to probe video modes |
14:42 |
efrahim |
Ok... that I can understand. Irrlicht have some problems with that, fine, but what I do not get is why I cannot start the game in windowed mode (fullscreen = false) |
14:43 |
efrahim |
Zeno`: Yes, but it is not. xrandr have eDPI (laptop monitor) as primary. Irrlicht should be asking xrandr for the primary device but it is not (I suppose) |
14:43 |
Zeno` |
you should be able to if you set screenW and screenH to (or whatever they're called) to 1024 and 768 |
14:44 |
Zeno` |
or something less than that |
14:45 |
efrahim |
Zeno`: That is the thing, that does not work. Whenever I set "fullscreen = false" with any screen[WH] values the window only pops up for an instance and then vanishes. Irrlicht says nothing about what went wrong. |
14:46 |
efrahim |
Zeno`: Can one tell irrlicht to be more verbose? Where is this log that irrlicht talks about? (I get output, no errors nor warnings, from Irrlicht starting with "Irrlicht log: ...") |
14:48 |
Zeno` |
well, maybe and maybe not. Add debug_log_level = 4 to minetest.conf and see if there is anything useful in debug.txt |
14:50 |
Zeno` |
what version of opengl does irrlicht say it's using? |
14:51 |
efrahim |
That output seems to be the same as running "minetest --trace", and does not give any output with any errors nor warnings (except the errors that says that main_menu audio files are missing, compiling with -sounds gets rids of these errors, but the same problem is there) |
14:51 |
Zeno` |
glxinfo | grep version is minetest/irrlicht says nothing |
14:51 |
Zeno` |
s/is/of |
14:51 |
Zeno` |
if |
14:54 |
efrahim |
Zeno`: glx version 1.4 (do you want the whole input of that command? I have a optimus nvidia card so the output of that command is different for running on either card, however the problem with minetest is the same on both cards) |
14:54 |
Zeno` |
what nvidia driver? |
14:54 |
Zeno` |
maybe it's a noveau driver problem, I really don't know |
14:55 |
efrahim |
Zeno`: It is nvidia's driver (346.47), not noveau. |
14:55 |
Zeno` |
I'm out of ideas then :( |
14:58 |
efrahim |
Zeno`: Alright. Thanks for helping me trying to debug it anyhow. Since you helped me narrow down the fullscreen thing to be because of my external monitor I have a new direction to search in. Thanks for the help! |
15:03 |
efrahim |
Zeno`: And... that could probably be the solution -- just unplug my projector and make xrandr not give VGA output and it might work -- however, because of optirun if I change in xrandr now optirun will drop out and I will only be able to get my nvidia card online after a reboot. So, a reboot before and after everytime I play minetest... nah... |

VanessaE |
https://github.com/VanessaE/homedecor_modpack/issues/198 |
16:57 |
VanessaE |
they're easy to make once you learn to use Blender |
16:57 |
thefamilygrog66 |
yeah, still trying to wrap my mind around blender, haha |
16:57 |
thefamilygrog66 |
it would be nice to be able to make my own meshes for mobs though |
16:57 |
VanessaE |
same thing. |
16:58 |
VanessaE |
:) |
16:58 |
thefamilygrog66 |
I end up recycling the player mesh for most of them, since there is such a abundance of minecraft skins out there. |
16:59 |
VanessaE |
but mesh nodes are super easy - drawtype = "mesh", mesh = "foo.obj", tiles = { "foo.png", "bar.png", ... } (you can use up to 6 materials in the mesh, and you specify their textures in the tiles={} field) |

it runs a version of android, and has a number of different FOSS you can install. Anyway there's a minetest client for it. I had some players awhile back, who were completely silent, and it turns out it's because they couldn't chat while using this system |
17:06 |
thefamilygrog66 |
One of them wrote me on the forums, asking for some basic signs with which to communicate with other players, so I wrote a sign mod with preset text - you can select which sign and then send its message to everyone. |

Hey let's rewrite Minetest in ASM, C++ is too slow. |
17:53 |

on another note, how can people possibly say that "freetype detection worked fiiine!" |

hmmmm: *bsd. no one *ever* uses that ;) |
17:54 |
hmmmm |
this doesn't work on Linux either |
17:55 |
hmmmm |
I don't see how it could |
17:55 |
hmmmm |
${FREETYPE_LDFLAGS} is a list variable |
17:55 |
VanessaE |
eh? |
17:55 |
hmmmm |
when it's represented AS A STRING, each list element gets separated by ; |
17:55 |
VanessaE |
freetype detects fine for me, always has |
17:55 |
VanessaE |
of course, I just use what came from my distro's package repo |
17:55 |
hmmmm |
but what that turd of code does is tries to replace using the list as input |
17:56 |
hmmmm |
so you need to stringify the list first by passing "${FREETYPE_LDFLAGS}" |

So essentially, it's sent plain and unencrypted for those who know what they're doing? |

everybody who has network access to one login, can then login as you as often as you want |
