Oh |
00:52 |
VanessaE |
what resolution do you want? |
00:52 |

plz hold |
00:52 |
Yves |
1600x900 |
00:52 |
VanessaE |
I meant HDX resolution |
00:53 |
VanessaE |
512px? 256? |
00:53 |
VanessaE |
there are several sizes |
00:53 |
VanessaE |
what you can run depends on your hardware |
00:54 |
Yves |
my clients should are able for 1240x920 or something like that |
00:54 |

you want i verify? |

HDX comes in several sizes. |
00:54 |

which size do you want? |

my guess is a smaller size like 64px is probably bext |

unzip it. move it to <your minetest dir>/textures/ and name it "server" |

00:58 |
Yves |
and a server dir under it? |
00:59 |
Yves |
VanessaE: ^ |
00:59 |
VanessaE |
create /textures/ if it doesn't exist, but server/ will be the name you give to the HDX folder therein |
00:59 |
Yves |
i mean in .minetest dir |
00:59 |
Yves |
good |
00:59 |
VanessaE |
mv ~/Downloads/hdx-64 ~/.minetest/textures/server/ |
00:59 |

or similar |
00:59 |
VanessaE |
don't mkdir server first, you need to actually rename the HDX folder. |
01:00 |

in my new "textures" dir. I rename VanessaE-hdx-64-182c510 to server. |
01:01 |

Hi, I'm having a problem with MoreOres; I went to craft a gold pick, and it won't do it - and when I invoke giveme for moreores:pick_gold , it says that it doesn't exist. |

I guess it was decided that gold makes terrible tools :P |

Hrm, darn. But, would it break an existing world if I created a mod to add them back in, using the stats in the old_init.lua? |

you don't need to |
04:27 |
VanessaE |
worst that'll happen is a few users will have some unknown items in their inventories. |
04:28 |
VanessaE |
as far as I know, there are already aliases in the current game to handle the old item/node names for the ingots, lumps, blocks, and ores |
04:28 |

(copper was also moved into the default game) |

On the world in question, there are no other users. |
04:30 |
VanessaE |
ok, so there's no real worry then :) |
04:31 |
VanessaE |
if you're really concerned, you could throw together a small mod to alias all the gold tools to something else that still exists, such as silver |
04:32 |
VanessaE |
(that would be four aliases, trivial to do, and you could tack them onto the bottom of moreores' init.lua or something probably if you want) |
04:35 |
EndymionM |
Honestly, since the mod still includes the gold tool textures, I'd want them to be their own items. But I think I'm following you. |
04:35 |
VanessaE |
huh. kinda surprised Calinou never deleted them :) |
04:37 |
EndymionM |
For me, pleasantly so. |
04:44 |
EndymionM |
Wait... the tools are still defined in the init.lua, and the recipes refer to moreores:gold_ingot. How can I check the itemstring of an item in my inventory? |

Criminy. |
04:45 |
VanessaE |
however, there were supposed to be aliases in place |
04:45 |
VanessaE |
so the recipes should have worked |
04:48 |
EndymionM |
Well, let me try disabling and re-enabling the mod (since that worked with the damage glitch I ran into before in the same world) |
04:48 |
VanessaE |
huh. seems they were dropped some time ago |
04:48 |
VanessaE |
there used to be an external_legacy mod. |
04:49 |

04:50 |
EndymionM |
Oh goody. |
04:54 |
EndymionM |
So if we assume for the moment that the gold ingots in my inventory are in fact from default: and not moreores: (which is logical, as the game should override the mod)... I'd need to modify the crafts in moreores to use default:gold_ingot rather than moreores:""? |
04:56 |
EndymionM |
Is it that simple and painless? Or is there something wonkier that will have to happen? |
04:56 |
VanessaE |
yep |
04:56 |
VanessaE |
it would be as obvious as it seems |
04:58 |

05:04 |

anyway better you should update to the latest one, and alias the gold tools -> silver ones or something |
05:06 |
EndymionM |
Or, before I update just copy the stats either from the one I have, append it to the current one with the changes, and run with that. Then reinstall; and it shouldn't break my world. I have a house (and a toilet :-p) I'm rather proud of. And if I want to create tin tools, I can have moreores be a depend and create them similarly? |

there's the zipball |
05:31 |
VanessaE |
download that, copy mods/external_legacy out of it and put it in your current game, see if it works |
05:32 |
VanessaE |
no guarantees :) |
05:32 |
VanessaE |
should work though, it's just a bunch of register_alias() calls for the moreores and diamonds mods. |
05:33 |
VanessaE |
it does not, however, do anything with the missing gold tools |
05:33 |
VanessaE |
so you'll still need to add aliases for those to point to something suitable (this mod should suffice as a place to add them) |
05:34 |
EndymionM |
Or just use the minetest register_craft function, since Calinou did before. |
05:34 |
VanessaE |
in that case, you need not do anything at all |
05:34 |
VanessaE |
if you're gonna keep your outdated version of moreores |
05:34 |
VanessaE |
just install that external_legacy mod |
05:34 |
VanessaE |
and the moreores recipes should just work |
05:35 |
EndymionM |
Well, I can just add them from old_init.lua, then throw external_legacy in, and poof, it all works like it did. |
05:35 |
VanessaE |
you could try that, but it may not work - moreores got a huge rewrite not long ago |
05:35 |
VanessaE |
worth a shot though |
05:42 |
EndymionM |
I saw that. But as far as the engine cares, minetest.register_tool and minetest.register_craft still work, right? |
05:44 |
EndymionM |
Okay. Golden Pickaxe worked. yay. |
05:45 |
VanessaE |
yep, the standard functions will still work fine |
05:46 |
VanessaE |
I was just thinking of the case where the old code might have relied on some moreores-specific function |
05:46 |
VanessaE |
(or table, etc) |
05:49 |
EndymionM |
Nope, just the textures, thankfully. |
05:49 |
VanessaE |
ok |
05:49 |

sounds like you might want to send Calinou a pull request to reinstate those old tools then |

does MESE block make signal (or pulse or power) in mesecons? |
10:26 |
VanessaE |
it can transfer a signal like a wire |
10:26 |
Dartmouth |
I think it only conducts |
10:26 |
VanessaE |
but it does not itself make any signal. |
10:26 |
srifqi |
only conducts? hmm... |
10:26 |
srifqi |
okay rebuild |
10:27 |
srifqi |
the circuit |
10:28 |
srifqi |
wait, how about mesecons torch? does it? |
10:28 |
VanessaE |
a mesecons torch is like an inverter |
10:28 |
VanessaE |
works similar to a redstone torch |
10:29 |
VanessaE |
when fed no signal, a mesecons torch will be "on" (since it interprets a no-signal as "off" and inverts it) |

srifqi |
are MESE ores rare for you? |
10:31 |
VanessaE |
mese is supposed to be somewhat uncommon, yeah |
10:31 |
srifqi |
so, for you, is it MORE precious than diamond? |
10:33 |
srifqi |
test |
10:33 |
srifqi |
another test |
10:34 |
srifqi |
ah, didn't works |
10:34 |
srifqi |
sorry |
10:36 |
VanessaE |
idk which one is more rare, I don't do much mining |
10:36 |
VanessaE |
(I usually play creative) |
10:37 |
ThatGraemeGuy |
mese starts being found around -64, whereas you only find diamond starting around -128 |
10:37 |
ThatGraemeGuy |
so from normal ground level until around -256 you would find more mese overall |
10:37 |
srifqi |
ah, btw VanessaE, i was enjoying your creative server when accidentally i destroyed a button ans then lag and then crashed |

10:38 |
ThatGraemeGuy |
below -256 mese is slightly more common than diamond, but not so significant that you'd notice |
10:39 |
srifqi |
yes it is |
10:39 |
srifqi |
but luckiness decidea |

10:39 |
ThatGraemeGuy |
yes ores are not uniform like they used to be |
10:40 |
srifqi |
not same as real life |
10:40 |
ThatGraemeGuy |
used to be that in a 100x100x100 section you be likely to find more or less the same amount of mese and diamond |
10:40 |
srifqi |
btw, is this channel is Minetest-related only? |
10:40 |
ThatGraemeGuy |
but it was changed a few months ago so now in that same patch you might find no diamonds at all |

there are a couple of links I can give you - how? Simple: modify your minetest.conf file with the server information. To run just run minetestserver with the appropriate options (like which world to use) |

Running the server is not hard. I got mine running and then I logged into the server on 2 different devices (a phone and my tablet - the Linux laptop was my server - it works - I had 3 players in my singleplayer world. |

Really? Empty world with the addition of mods? I had to learn about which files to edit |
21:18 |
justas2 |
when you done step 2 how im gonna do the code copy on that??? |
21:18 |
est31 |
if you need to edit files in order to add mods, then you are using the hardest method |
21:19 |
est31 |
just copy your mods into the worldmods dir and be happy |
21:19 |
est31 |
hi builder :) |
21:19 |
Trixar_za |
world's can have a mods directory? |
21:20 |
Trixar_za |
I just modify the world.mt file after dropping the mods in the mods directory in the main folder |
21:20 |
Builder123 |
Mods directory can be placed in the specific World that u want the mod to work in |
21:20 |
Trixar_za |
And you guys are only telling me this NOW? |
21:21 |
est31 |
I don't know why this isnt the default option |
21:22 |
est31 |
perhaps with symlinks to the mods folder instead of stupid world.mt |
21:22 |
Builder123 |
I can just drop mods into the singleplayer folder (andriod) or the specific subgame for windows or linx - they are automatically added to your game (of course as long as the mod is not corrupted) |

Judging from the logs, it looks like someone asked about that earlier today, and it was said that the PPA is separately maintained. It was asked if the maintainers were contacted yet at the time, and the answer then was no though the devs have the info to contact them. |
