Brazil operates a ‘Simplified Tax Regime’, where imports by post or courier valued between US$50 and US$3,000 are subject to a flat 60% Import Tax on the CIF value of the import. |

yeah |

this page is too simplified for idiots |

where's the actual duty/import code? |

well at least books aren't taxed :P |
00:06 |

tell the shipper to declare the value at less than $50 then :) |
00:06 |
VanessaE |
that's what the chinese do all the time |
00:06 |
VanessaE |
for the same reason |
00:06 |
VanessaE |
and I've done the same when shipping overseas at my customers' request |
00:06 |
VanessaE |
also for the same reason |
00:07 |
Megaf |
There are a handful of things that do work in Brazil |
00:08 |
Megaf |
and tax colecting is one of them |
00:08 |
VanessaE |
either that or do what crazyR suggested. Have someone in an overseas-shipping-friendly company buy it for you and ship it you do, declared at a very low value. |
00:08 |
VanessaE |

have some American buy the desired on amazon with free shipping, then they turn around and use US Postal Service Flat Rate Priority to send it to you. it'll be there in about a week and it'll only cost about $16. |

don't look at me, I'm too poor to do it. |
00:11 |
VanessaE |
plus I can't guarantee that my idea will work |
00:11 |
Exio4 |
in argentina since there are a new "import checks" |
00:11 |
Exio4 |
they check if what you got is "really" what it says |
00:12 |
Exio4 |
if the paper says 25 USD and you got a harddisk and a fan and lots of shit, they won't let you take it |
00:12 |
Exio4 |
but if you say that is actually 200 USD when it really was 350~ there is no problem, (unless we're talking about 500 and 1000 and so on :P) |

00:13 |
Megaf |
if you say something is much cheaper than really is they will tax over a price they believe is the right one |
00:14 |
Megaf |
VanessaE: in Brazil it depends on the mood of the tax agent |
00:14 |
Megaf |
really |
00:14 |

Hi Exio4 |
00:14 |

i actually think having everything taxed wouldn't be so bad if we actually saw that money going to REAL places |
00:17 |
Megaf |
Exio4: same here |
00:17 |
Exio4 |
like education, and REAL stuff, not the shitty laptops we get |
00:17 |
VanessaE |
Exio4: there's nothing wrong with *reasonable* taxes. |
00:17 |
VanessaE |
but a 60% import tax plus up to 30% more on top of that? that's unreasonable. |
00:18 |
Megaf |
VanessaE: Brazilian people dont mind at all in paying 55%+ of theier salaries in taxes. Only if we could have some return |
00:18 |
Exio4 |
s/Brazilian// |
00:18 |
VanessaE |
if your country has no manufacturing capacity to replace that which is not being imported, and it never comes about, then the import taxes serve no purpose but to line some politician's pocket. |
00:18 |
VanessaE |
Megaf: americans pay about the same after all is said and done. |
00:19 |

or a little less perhaps |

out roads are full of holes, out hospitals doesnt work and you die waiting to be heard, |

you have no idea how expensive the world cup is going to be here |
00:20 |
Exio4 |
i can guess |
00:21 |
Exio4 |
we barely have spare money, and when we have, it disappears or is wasted |
00:24 |
Exio4 |
i know this may sound like a bit bad but the AUH (spanish link: https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asignaci%C3%B3n_Universal_por_Hijo) is like one of the things that makes the "working class" a bit angry |
00:24 |
Exio4 |
and the plan "Conectar igualdad", with lots of netbooks! everywhere! |
00:24 |
Exio4 |
used for playing counter strike 1.6 and gta vice city at school |
00:24 |
Exio4 |
because teachers don't know how to use the system properly |
00:25 |
Exio4 |
and yeah, they have servers |
00:25 |
Exio4 |
for not letting the kids have facebook at school! |
00:25 |
Exio4 |
so they play lan games |
00:26 |
Exio4 |
anyway, after three years, i'll be getting my laptop |
00:26 |
Exio4 |
i had to make my CUIL three years ago, it is basically a way to track all the people |
00:27 |
Exio4 |
my fingerprint and all the shit |
00:27 |
Megaf |
Exio4: same here |
00:27 |
Megaf |
"we" give laptops to poor kids |
00:28 |
Exio4 |
here it is to "kids" |
00:29 |
Exio4 |
and also, the AUH means the kid needs to go to the school |
00:29 |
Exio4 |
even if the kid is only there for being a bastard to the children that really want to study |
00:30 |
Exio4 |
yeah, i think that thing would have been nice in 2002 |
00:30 |
Exio4 |
and then said, WHEN it was made, that it would stop existing in 2004-5 |
00:31 |
Exio4 |
the problem is that the inflation is flying up, and there are no real numbers |
00:31 |
Exio4 |
so basically the numbers the gov "manages" are waay outdated |

Hey... I have a question about something. Is it possible to modify the size of a player's inventory? I'm thinking of a mod where some players can have a bigger inventory, whereas others might have no inventory at all. Is this possible? |

PilzAdam, would doubling mob spawn ABM interval (from 30 to 60 seconds), and dividing chance by 2, reduce server load? |
15:42 |
Calinou |
it looks like mob spawns are the most demanding thing on the server |
15:42 |
PilzAdam |
Calinou, yes, that could work |
15:42 |
Calinou |
I'll try doing that then |
15:42 |
PilzAdam |
I think I already did that in Nodetopia |
15:43 |
PilzAdam |
you could even divide it by 8 or 16 |
15:43 |
|
Shardvexz joined #minetest |

it checks for two air nodes: checking for only one may be faster? |
15:43 |
Calinou |
(I don't care if some mobs spawn with head in stone, not a big problem) |
15:44 |
Calinou |
actually may help me a bit :D |
15:45 |
Calinou |
PilzAdam, 8 or 16 seems like a lot, that would mean mob spawns occur every 4 or 8 minutes |
15:45 |
Calinou |
I'll try 120 second interval |
15:48 |
Calinou |
heh, I saw 3 rats spawn at the same time |
15:51 |
Calinou |
PilzAdam, I get short freezes on mob spawns now |
15:52 |
PilzAdam |
Calinou, divide the time by 16 and multiply the chance by 16 |
15:52 |
PilzAdam |
its the same spawn rate but less nodes per step |
15:53 |
Calinou |
ah |
15:53 |
Calinou |
I thought you wanted me to make the ABM run less often |
15:54 |
Calinou |
also, did a nice thing: mobs always jump while attacking :D |
15:54 |
Calinou |
harder to hit, follows you faster when climbling up |
15:54 |
Calinou |
PilzAdam, how would I divide 30 by 16? :p |
15:54 |
Calinou |
how often should the ABM run? |
15:55 |
PilzAdam |
you could try making it 1 second |
15:55 |
Calinou |
won't that choke the server? |
15:55 |
Calinou |
I'd say 2 seconds, like leaf decay |
15:58 |
Calinou |
seems better now (with 2 seconds) |

Also: Is it really not possible to store custom Lua properties of players between server restarts? Like for example to persist appearance... model and texture |
19:14 |
Taoki |
Lua entities can be persisted with custom values. And players also have properties they are persisted with, like last position and HP and everything... so I assume you could add your own stuff there too? |
19:15 |

hey guys, quick question. 32bit os or 64bit os. whats best for minetest. is there any performance diffrnece? |
23:41 |

Each player type that can be assumed from a mob will have different inventories, movement speeds, etc |
23:42 |
Taoki |
And yes, I am intending to allow it for ALL mobs, including sheep and mice :P Mice players will prolly have only 1 to 5 inventory slots or something. Will see how it goes |

? |
