Traxie21 |
jordan4ibanez, why not use particles for the water spawner? |
00:16 |

hell, even Gavin says that you should only invest time and money into Bitcoin that you are comfortable losing. |
00:16 |
jordan4ibanez |
Because with items, you can get water from the fountain |
00:16 |
Traxie21 |
oh |
00:16 |
savedgames |
so if you're not interested don't do it, but misrepresenting facts about Bitcoin because you don't understand is just shitty |
00:16 |
Traxie21 |
well, adding some particles in there would make it look better |
00:17 |
savedgames |
and spreading myths |
00:17 |
mauvebic |
i understand it pretty well |
00:17 |
mauvebic |
its a pump and dump scheme |
00:17 |
mauvebic |
perpetuated by the exchanges |
00:17 |
mauvebic |
they call it getting zhou tonged' |
00:17 |
savedgames |
mauvebic, you understand neither digital signatures, nor proof of work. |
00:17 |
mauvebic |
then they close shop, and bail out |
00:17 |
savedgames |
so you can only spread misinformation since you do not understand the technology. Thus FUD |
00:17 |
mauvebic |
mmmhmmm |
00:17 |
jordan4ibanez |
I know, but it is just a test, I like how you can actually get the water lol |
00:18 |

tell me, who actually created bitcoin? cuz we still dont know lol |

most of Bitcoins followers don't understand Bitcoin but also help in spreading the myths |

you wont find many suckers here, its an opensource game, people didn't pay for it lol |
00:19 |

still they defend it. Which makes them totally crazy. Bitcoin is all about digital signatures, checksums and nothing else. These are proven technologies that exist in Bank-ID and Bittorrent. Nothing new really |
00:19 |
savedgames |
I'm talking about donations |
00:19 |
khonkhortisan |

i think they'd rather take donations in currencies they can pay the hosting with |
00:20 |

In its core Bitcoin is only about Public key cryptography, that is digital signatures, and checksums. |
00:26 |

though you don't have to find out. I'm glad you are giving minetest. Thanks...and with that I can leave peacefully :D |
00:26 |

technology isn't the problem ,its how the exchanges manipulate the rates to fleece their own customers, and they say BTC is better than modern banking lol |

Common assumptions is that Bitcoin uses encryption. |
00:29 |

Bitcoin doesn't use encryption but it uses cryptography. There's a wild difference there. |

mapgen v7 won't be the default for quite some time |
02:27 |
hmmmm |
there's no reason to push people into using something brand new that they might not like |
02:27 |
jordan4ibanez |
I can't wait for it, it looks amazing |
02:27 |
jordan4ibanez |
Oh they will like it, it's incredible |
02:27 |
hmmmm |
anyway, now that i have tonight and tomorrow free from work, i'll work on it a bit |
02:28 |
hmmmm |
were you looking at it? |
02:28 |
hmmmm |
or did you just say that based on the screenshots |
02:28 |
hmmmm |
if you'd like, i can give you a couple biome definitions |
02:28 |
jordan4ibanez |
Well seeing how naturally the terrain looks compared to the current one, yes |
02:28 |
hmmmm |
but it's still kind of hard to play on without trees :3 |
02:28 |
hmmmm |
haha, floating pieces of land is not natural |
02:29 |
jordan4ibanez |
No, the smoothness of it is |
02:29 |
hmmmm |
oh yes |
02:29 |
hmmmm |
that's what i was aiming for |
02:29 |
hmmmm |
that's what i absolutely hated about the current mapgen |
02:29 |
jordan4ibanez |
It looks like it was smoothly curved out over time rather than destroyed in earthquakes |
02:29 |
hmmmm |
so it's smooth and interesting at the same time |
02:30 |
jordan4ibanez |
use the lua function for spawning grass to spawn trees, easy fix |
02:31 |
hmmmm |
lol |
02:31 |
RealBadAngel |
talkin bout the trees, they are waitin for biomes :) |
02:31 |
hmmmm |
my plans are something like that |
02:31 |
jordan4ibanez |
that would create some weird patches of trees |
02:32 |
hmmmm |
also, i think i'm going to backport DecorationDef to V6 too, since there's so much to gain |
02:32 |
RealBadAngel |
trees can be spawned in the engine or the lua side |
02:34 |
RealBadAngel |
tree definition is just a table with some variables set |
02:35 |
RealBadAngel |
and can be used directly in the mapgen |

you could try stacking them vertically in your config, at least then you'd have no dead zone |
06:49 |
VanessaE |
markveidemanis: there are really only three ways to deal with this issue: 1. stack the monitors in a configuration that eliminates dead zones, e.g. side by side if the vertical rez is equal, or one above the other if the horizontal is equal (that's you). 2. scale one of the screens up or down to match the other screen's resolution - but this is blurry. 3. Just deal with having a dead zone. |

I think I'm going to make an anvil so you can fix the power tools, but instead of having to cook it or use power or whatever, I'll make a hammer, and when you right click the anvil, it takes the tool out of your hand and adds an entity above the anvil, and when you punch the anvil with the hammer it adds some life back into the tool |

kaeza, they should allow tables of players to be added to chat_send_player to eliminate iterating |
14:47 |
kaeza |
Traxie21|Kindle, so I only need "potions"? or do I need some other mod? |
14:47 |
hmmmm |
by the way, i just want to point out that it's very easy to make elements of the HUD blink, for example if health gets too low you can have the hearts blink by changing the texture name of that statbar to "" or something and back on an interval |

hmmmm, silly question: is the default health bar now implemented as a HUD element? |
14:47 |
hmmmm |
it's not |
14:48 |
Traxie21|Kindle |
kaeza, you need potions and potionspack if you dont want to register your own potions |
14:48 |
hmmmm |
that's going to be very tough to do because of server lag |
14:48 |
Traxie21|Kindle |
crosshair should be a HUD element |
14:48 |
kaeza |
hmmmm, not really |
14:48 |

...nvm... it is |

hmmmm |
uh, yes really. |
14:49 |
hmmmm |
i do know what i'm talking about |
14:49 |
Traxie21|Kindle |
hmmm, health bar should be fine, its the inventory bar that will be a problem. |
14:49 |
Traxie21|Kindle |
owait, then the HP system |
14:49 |
Traxie21|Kindle |
hmm.... |
14:50 |
kaeza |
yeah, damage is "predicted"/whatever in the client |
14:50 |
kaeza |
but the client must send the "damage" to the server, and it responds back by setting the item value |
14:51 |
kaeza |
so... lag IS a problem |

yea |

If mods can make absolutely-positioned hud stuff, mods will overlap what they are drawing. Someone will have to make another mod that stacks all the hud stuff, which other mods then depend on |

I could use some kind of "anchor" instead of the silly "position" |

PilzAdam: how so? |
19:11 |
PilzAdam |
the item drop mod you have should check if digger is nil |
19:11 |
PilzAdam |
if I run /dig on some nodes, all are dropped as entities |
19:12 |
hmmmm |
how is it a problem? |
19:12 |
VanessaE |
RealBadAngel: ^^^^^^^^^ |
19:12 |
hmmmm |
it's working properly as intended |
19:12 |
hmmmm |
if you want small hearts, you have to scale them down yourself now, that's all |
19:12 |
VanessaE |
hmmmm: kaeza wants some kind of relative slotted positioning, calinou implies the images need to be scaled. fwiw: 20 px is the optimal size of a HUD image/ |
19:12 |
RealBadAngel |
i have fixed item drop to work properly |
19:13 |
hmmmm |
i want slotted positioning too. making that happen is a whole other story. |
19:13 |
VanessaE |
RealBadAngel: evidently not if the digger is nil :) |
19:13 |
hmmmm |
i don't really care what the optimial size of a hud image is, you scale it down |
19:13 |
mauvebic |
slotted = like the formspecs? what would be the grid size for the whole window? |
19:13 |
hmmmm |
i am not about to go restrict the users' freedom when it really doesn't need to happen that way |
19:14 |
mauvebic |
might be confusing if the formspec gridsize is different |
19:14 |
VanessaE |
mauvebic: yes, but formspecs can be drawn smoothly too, you don't actuall yhave to stick right to the slots. |
19:14 |
hmmmm |
waaah i have to open a single texture up in an editor and click a couple buttons and then save it |
19:14 |
VanessaE |
mauvebic: you can, for example, position a box at 1.2345 x 4.567 relative coords if you want. |
19:15 |
mauvebic |
i havent done anything with the hud yet, im assuming its using pixel placement? |
19:15 |
PilzAdam |
VanessaE, ping me if you have updated worldedit++ |
19:15 |
kaeza |
hmmmm, it's not about texture resizing; some mods may want to use default textures in the HUD, which could be replaced by higher-res versions |
19:15 |
VanessaE |
hmmmm: for me, the issue is more a matter of forward-compatibility: if some user has a big-ass 4k screen, I want those hearts to be drawn at a much-higher-than-16px resolution wherever possible. |
19:16 |
hmmmm |
that's an issue which cannot be solved unless you want to add more complication |
19:16 |
Jordach |
why cant we do what html divs do |
19:16 |
hmmmm |
so now you want to scale the hud relative to absolute screen size |
19:16 |
Jordach |
when w = 8-% |
19:16 |
mauvebic |
formspecs are nothing like html |
19:16 |
VanessaE |
hmmmm: do it the way the hotbar is drawn. It is scaled relative. |
19:17 |
hmmmm |
i'd have to add an option for that somehow |
19:17 |
mauvebic |
though for lua you could probably come up with some sort of hud-css lol |
19:17 |
mauvebic |
*from lua |
19:18 |
mauvebic |
if you could poll the screen size, could you use transform functions on the heart? |
19:19 |
VanessaE |
PilzAdam: why should digger even be nil? it should be set to the name of the player that executed the dig function. |
19:19 |
VanessaE |
(that doesn't solve the item_drop issue though) |
19:19 |
PilzAdam |
that would move all the nodes into the players inventory |
19:19 |
PilzAdam |
wich isnt good at all |
19:20 |
VanessaE |
you still need to make it behave properly with node_ownership |

well, http://lua-users.org/lists/lua-l/2010-03/msg00238.html states "This problem is not present in LuaJIT 2.0.", so I guess the best solution is to get it upgraded somehow |
