My brain recursively is telling me I did something wrong on github, and it's slightly going away, but I checked everything and I did nothing wrong, I think I'm subconciously regretting adding the craftguide mod in, but I don't want to clutter the wiki with craft recipes |
00:23 |
jordan4ibanez |
is there a way to get the player's velocity? |
00:24 |
mauvebic |
if there isn't than you can write a function to poll the players' position and derive it from there |
00:24 |
jordan4ibanez |
that's too hacky |
00:24 |

whats the difference? |

jojoa1997|Tablet |
you cant define how many drops though |
01:43 |

how many? |
01:43 |
jojoa1997|Tablet |
that is for droping different stuff |
01:43 |

oh |
01:43 |
ShadowNinja |
I think you can |
01:43 |
VanessaE |
just add more items= lines |
01:43 |
VanessaE |
with different probabilities |
01:43 |
jojoa1997|Tablet |
oh yeah i saw that but dismissed it |
01:44 |
jojoa1997|Tablet |
what is max_items |
01:44 |
VanessaE |
if you set rarity to 1, I *believe* that's equivalent to just leaving it out (= you always get this item on drop 100% of the time) |
01:44 |
VanessaE |
max_items = maximum number of items from the list of drops you can receive at one ti,me |
01:44 |
VanessaE |
time*( |
01:45 |
jordan4ibanez |
This really is awesome http://goo.gl/tddmt |
01:45 |
VanessaE |
so if it's 1 as in this case, you can only get one item at a time from the drop list, which in this code is either leaves OR sapling |
01:45 |
Exio |
don't enable that, i want infinite stuff >:D |

jojoa1997|Tablet |

I think I'm going to use worldedit to spawn islands in the sky instead of those ugly ore gens, generate single node ore veins with a special node, and on_create the node spawns an island in it's position |
03:25 |

would create some epic terrain |

I thought item_drop made it into minetest. That's what I get for cloning modpacks. |

That will probably never make it into minetest, people whine way too much |

I have it (as part of technic) on my server. |

Is it just me or do abms sometimes get run with chance = 1 when loading nearby blocks? |
03:58 |
VanessaE |
yep. |
03:58 |
VanessaE |
I think they "stack up". |
03:59 |
VanessaE |
(so it isn't a literal chance=1, I think it's more like a bunch of abms for an area get queued up and then all get dumped out at once) |

05:09 |

That wasn't a variant of protector, as it used none of its concepts or code. But the issue with it is that each claim takes up RAM. It doesn't load and unload as the map does. It would need to store the owner as "map block meta data" to be effective, but that doesn't exist. So I need another way. |
05:09 |
khonkhortisan |
ah, kosher. |

a 100-byte string of text ain't gonna take up a significant amount of RAM. |

[0gb_us] |
Does anyone know a command for checking a file's size? |

naw, don't worry about RAM usage for claims, the map takes at least a couple of orders of magnitude more than your land claims, I'm sure. |
05:13 |

We're having CPU and RAM issues, so I need to conserve as much as possible. Every little bit helps. |

05:13 |

Now what was that about replacing default trees? |
05:14 |
VanessaE |
khonkhortisan: oh, sorry. I'll fix that. |
05:14 |
[0gb_us] |
I'm also considering using locked chests as a node to protect all the nodes around it, which thanks to ShadowNinja will take much less iteration than protector, but it also closes options such as sharing areas. |
05:14 |
VanessaE |
regarding default trees, you have to disable them in your mt_flags line in map_meta.txt, and then enable beeches in moretrees_settings.txt (same folder as map_meta.txt) |
05:15 |

I don't have those errors. |

I wonder if I can set a metastring of a minetest function like minetest.env:set_node() |
05:26 |
[0gb_us] |
If it's not public, it sort of kills the point. Yeah, you get to build, but never share your creations, or have others share their creations with you. But it it is public, people wreck stuff. And if you have some sort of bouncer (such as no interact by default), the world isn't welcoming. It feels like there is no way to win. |
05:26 |
* [0gb_us] |
wants a cool world, but isn't getting anywhere fast |
05:27 |
khonkhortisan |
world-in-world may be a solution. |
05:27 |
[0gb_us] |
What does that mean? |
05:28 |
khonkhortisan |
You join a server, spawn in the world, and there's teleporters. You go in one, and you're in someone's private world on the same server and you've lost some privs. |
05:29 |
[0gb_us] |
It sounds like if you walked far enough, you could get to their "private" world while still having interact. |

never tried to embed an image into a formspec, other than as a background image ala unified inventory |
17:47 |
khonkhortisan |
I think a series of images would be a hacky way of drawing a straight line |
17:47 |
khonkhortisan |
I want to draw lines to separate mods in the UI creative inventory |
17:47 |
VanessaE |
khonkhortisan: just add your line to the background image, which is ui_form_bg.png I think |
17:47 |
VanessaE |
manually draw it in there with gimp or so |
17:48 |
khonkhortisan |
heh. Can't do that. |
17:48 |
khonkhortisan |
The creative inventory has multiple items in it. For every page, in between every two items, if the modnames aren't the same, draw white line. |
17:49 |
VanessaE |
OH |
17:49 |
VanessaE |
I see what you wanna do |
17:49 |
VanessaE |
that will be...difficult |
17:49 |
khonkhortisan |
yep |
17:49 |
PilzAdam |
VanessaE, worldedit++ has a "selected" node for each player |
17:49 |
Jordach |
PilzAdam, worldedit has that too |
17:49 |
PilzAdam |
so you dont have to type in /set same:node everytime |
17:49 |
PilzAdam |
you can select nodes with /select node:name |
17:50 |
khonkhortisan |
But it would make it slightly faster to find a node (without searching) If you look at a node and recognize it to be from the wrong mod, you can skip down to the next white line instead of looking at all the nodes on the way there |
17:50 |
PilzAdam |
or just /select and it will use your wielded node |
17:50 |
VanessaE |
since mods aren't divided by pages or even lines - you'll either have to draw multiple L- or zig-zag lines to divide the mods, or if you'll excuse the word processing analogy, add a "line break" after each class, or a "page break" |
17:50 |
khonkhortisan |
I'll process every "edge" separately, so I'm only drawing equal-length horizontal/vertical lines |
17:50 |
VanessaE |
PilzAdam: I see. better you should add automatic selection to the //replace command - if given two params, //replace A B should behave as //select A; //replace B |
17:51 |
PilzAdam |
yea, I guess I add that |
17:51 |
PilzAdam |
also /set nodename |
17:51 |

I can see a use for your way too though |
17:53 |
khonkhortisan |
On my lan server, water and lava were placed in the air, destroying the outer layer of a building. When I removed the liquid, I was left with a layer of stone (over desert_sand over desert_stone over stone) Because it flowed downhill, I can't just select all of it and replace stone with air, that would replace the regular stone. Worldedit doesn't have a floodfill-select. |
17:53 |
VanessaE |
can the user set multiple selections? e.g. //select A B C D selects all of nodes A/B/C/D for replacement/setting ? |
17:53 |
VanessaE |
that would be quite handy to have in some situations |
17:53 |
PilzAdam |
I dont have that |
17:54 |
khonkhortisan |
If there wasn't an entity limit, you could draw a grid surrounding the worldedit volume |
17:54 |
VanessaE |
khonkhortisan: which is precisely why the 'lavacooling' function in gloopblocks creates obsidian, pumice, and basalt, so that you get unique materials that are unlikely to be accidentally by a //replace command in that sort of situation. |
17:54 |
PilzAdam |
should A replace B or B replace A in /replace A B ? |
17:54 |
VanessaE |
PilzAdam: B replaces A. |
17:54 |
PilzAdam |
yep |
17:54 |
PilzAdam |
thought the same |
17:54 |
khonkhortisan |
I like the obsidian, but not the stone cooling. I'll go get that mod. |

17:59 |

you'll have to iterate through them from the cut point on up, possibly out into the branches if they're large trees. |
17:59 |
VanessaE |
why would they become entities? |
17:59 |

17:59 |

trees have no such code built in, they are just nodes, they may as well be stone or dirt for that matter, so you'd have to code that yourself. |

otherwise all you get is copypasta |

also, you still have to define function for the ABM |
22:04 |
PilzAdam |
not doing this is the main point of register_spawner() |
22:12 |
jordan4ibanez |
You know, you make a good point, I think I should rename it spawner instead of entity spawner since you can do whatever you want with it |
22:13 |

and make a way to place them in/on dungeons |

:D and spawn vombies or w/e are they called in mobf |
22:14 |
Jordach |
spawn dungeon masters from SM |
22:15 |

Well you can do that, you'd just have to get objects in radius, and count each vombie, and if the vombie count in radius exceeds an amount then don't spawn |
22:16 |

that is what is done in the abm of SM |

To the people who make mobs: Please include a boolean to disable the mobs that destroy stuff or hurt people |
23:21 |
jojoa1997|Tablet |
is it possible to have something damage you 0.5 |
23:22 |

Or hook into the boolean Minetest has by default. I think it might be despawn_hostile_mobs |

i would like to say something about minitest |
23:24 |
jojoa1997|Tablet |
when i am making mods i have to change half the code to fit minitest(cause pilzadam wanted everything to be "minitest:blah" not default:blah") |
23:24 |
jojoa1997|Tablet |
so when there are some bugs like this version |
23:25 |
jojoa1997|Tablet |
please remember that for redstone i had to redo half of the code that was in mesecons |
23:26 |
ShadowNinja |
I don't know why PilzAdam wanted that, it sounds dumb and pointless to me |

The UI creative inventory has each button 0.7 apart, but makes them 0.81 wide. Somehow, there's spacing between them (more horizontally than vertically) |

For each mob that spawns with this function is a field in mobs.spawning_mobs. It tells if the mob should spawn or not. Default is true. So other mods can only use the API of this mod by disabling the spawning of the default mobs in this mod. |
