Oh, right. I forgot, it's Mint that you're not supposed to upgrade without a clean install, not Ubuntu. |
00:13 |
Hwkiller |
I've upgraded mint too |
00:13 |
Hwkiller |
it wasn't as clean as ubuntu's |
00:13 |

but it worked |

when did minetest get slower then minecraft? |
00:27 |

I wouldn't know; haven't played minecraft |

i found the solution to my ISP problem: beer |
00:32 |
Kacey |
that solves everything |
00:34 |
mauvebic |
right now the only other idea i got was to go down there to HQ and kick some asses, but jail sucks so i went with beer :P |
00:35 |
mauvebic |
i just wonder at what point incompetence becomes fraud |
00:35 |
NotReallyNick |
Minetest still actually runs at a decent speed on my computer. Minecraft doesn't. |
00:35 |
NotReallyNick |
So ... How is Minetest slower? |
00:35 |
Menche |
Minecraft runs a bit slower on my computer, and has more glitches than Minetest |
00:36 |
NotReallyNick |
I don't know about glitches. I didn't play it long enough to find the glitches. |
00:36 |
Menche |
sometimes directional keys would get stuck |
00:36 |
Menche |
usually while fighting >:( |
00:36 |
NotReallyNick |
My siblings talked me into trying Minecraft. |
00:37 |
Menche |
and sometimes a chunk doesn't load, so you bounce up and down in the space |
00:37 |
NotReallyNick |
AH! They've been blaming the keyboard for that glitch! |
00:37 |
Menche |
i could have my character running forward constantly with hands off the keyboard |
00:38 |
Menche |
so, when i'm repeatedly hitting that creeper and retreating, and suddenly run right into it... |
00:38 |
NotReallyNick |
Does it hurt to touch creepers? |
00:38 |
Menche |
no, but they detonate |

00:40 |

Yep. Set wrong. That also explains why a jungle appeared in my new world. |
00:41 |
Menche |
arrr, water doesn't dump on punch anymore |
00:41 |
NotReallyNick |
Yeah, I keep trying to do that too. |
00:41 |
Menche |
will take a while for me to adjust |
00:42 |
NotReallyNick |
I like how tools are no longer dropped on_place() though. That was just annoying. |
00:42 |
NotReallyNick |
Yeah, it'll take a while to adjust. Managable though. |
00:42 |
Menche |
it does make sense, punch = pick up node and rightclick = place |
00:43 |
NotReallyNick |
And ... water is fixed. |
00:44 |
VanessaE |
if anyone gives a shit :) gloopblocks just got another minor update, as did HDX. |
00:44 |
NotReallyNick |
There was a cave that was draining the ocean on me. |
00:44 |
NotReallyNick |
Nice! |
00:45 |
NotReallyNick |
Gloopblocks is cool. I like to look at HDX, but it's too high res for me to actually install. |
00:45 |
NotReallyNick |
Why do you have gloopblocks now? |
00:45 |
VanessaE |
NotReallyNick: try a lower-resolution one. 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512px. |
00:46 |
VanessaE |
I have gloopblocks because neko discontinued it. |
00:46 |
VanessaE |
and I didn't want to see it die of neglect |

a bunch of random blocks :) |
00:47 |
VanessaE |
it's becoming something of a repository for abandoned blocks I think are nice to have |
00:48 |
NotReallyNick |
Ah, I see. I think the only thing I don't like about gloopblocks is the cat/rainbow recipes. The only thing that makes the cats worthwhile it that they are trophies. Though I can see rainbows as a practical building material at times. |
00:48 |
VanessaE |
I've thought about that, not sure if I want to remove those recipes or not |
00:49 |
NotReallyNick |
I'd remove the rainbow recipe, and make the cat recipe give rainbows. But that's just me. |
00:49 |

Or remove both. That's a good option too. |

01:10 |

01:10 |

they usually do fine going down; but going up gets them stuck about 50% of th etime |
01:10 |

it's still faster than going by foot though |

I want iron level to stay the same, and have copper no longer rely on iron. |
01:25 |
NotReallyNick |
In moreores, there was a dedicated metal for that: tin. |
01:26 |
VanessaE |
you mean bronze. |
01:26 |
VanessaE |
bronze relies on iron :) |
01:26 |
VanessaE |
(when, most of us agree, it should have been tin, but whatever) |
01:27 |
NotReallyNick |
Copper relies on iron. THere is no anything that can be made with copper besides bronze, which requires iron. I meant what I said, copper relies on iron too. |
01:27 |
mauvebic |
two beers later and im still ticked lol |
01:27 |
VanessaE |
you can make copper blocks without using iron... |
01:27 |
VanessaE |
and copper can be used elsewhere also; technic and homedecor need it, for example/ |
01:27 |
NotReallyNick |
Can you? WHen were copper blocks added? |
01:27 |
VanessaE |
oh wait |
01:28 |
VanessaE |
no you're right, copper blocks got missed |
01:28 |
VanessaE |
nevertheless, copper ore/lumps/ingots don't depend on iron, only bronze does. |
01:28 |
NotReallyNick |
Technic and homedecore aren't in the base game. There's a recipe for everything if you look outside the base game. |
01:28 |
VanessaE |
true |
01:28 |
VanessaE |
but to say that A depends on B because B depends on A is not accurate. |
01:28 |
NotReallyNick |
Copper DOES depend on iron. Without iron, copper can't be used for ANYTHING. |
01:29 |
NotReallyNick |
Copper literally has no function without iron. |
01:29 |
VanessaE |
that'll change I'm sure |
01:29 |
NotReallyNick |
I sure hope so. For now, I can't even compress copper as blocks for storage. |
01:32 |
NotReallyNick |
I'm also hoping give_initial_stuff and bones are moved to common. There's no good reason to keep them in places where custom games can't access them. |
01:33 |

give initial stuff should just be in default, its so tiny |

01:35 |

SO no scanning issues. Only games that want give_initial_stuff would scan for it. |

01:35 |

but who bothers to remove it? |

01:35 |
NotReallyNick |
It would only be included by minetest_game and custom games that want it. |

* NotReallyNick |
used to give initial stuff until give_initial_stuff was made inaccessible |
01:36 |
mauvebic |
this common stuff seems to add more confusion than it removes lol |
01:37 |
NotReallyNick |
It would remove all confusion if everything was added to common. It's the fact that some things are NOT in common that is the issue. |
01:37 |

anyone else having problems with not being able to hurt mobs? |
01:58 |
khonkhortisan |
If it turned into a special grass-only fire, or didn't spread, then it would be fine. |
01:58 |
mauvebic |
we should ask a farmer what a field looks like once burnt |
01:58 |
mauvebic |
thats how they rotated crops i think |
01:59 |
NotReallyNick |
Mobs never seem to hurt me, but it's because they aren't installed. |
01:59 |
Kacey |
night all |
01:59 |
sdzen |
just have it if grass is near node fire:basic_flame then add node default:dirt |
01:59 |
NotReallyNick |
Night. |
01:59 |
NakedFury |
khonkhortisan: easily fixed with adding a chance that it wont spread |
01:59 |
sdzen |
then it doesnt spread |
01:59 |
mauvebic |
though for farm soil, which is already a seperate node(s), they coulld have a "nutrients" value |
01:59 |
sdzen |
and gets the effect wanted |
01:59 |
NakedFury |
or lets say modify Fire to have stages. a big fire using all the area a normal node would use medium and small fires |
02:00 |
NakedFury |
like how wheat grows in the game minecraft |
02:00 |
sdzen |
I like that idea as well |
02:00 |
NakedFury |
small fires are maybe like 1/3 the size of a node |
02:00 |
VanessaE |
NotReallyNick: any luck with the default saplign? |
02:00 |
VanessaE |
sapling* |
02:00 |
NotReallyNick |
Sapling planted. Time to wait. |
02:00 |
VanessaE |
ok |
02:00 |
VanessaE |
can someone take a look at my code and see if maybe I screwed up somewhere? |
02:00 |
NotReallyNick |
And ... It grew. |
02:01 |
sdzen |
maybe you messed up the alias? |
02:01 |
NotReallyNick |
Okay, where is the code? |
02:01 |
VanessaE |
https://github.com/VanessaE/moretrees/blob/master/node_defs.lua#L203 |
02:01 |
mauvebic |
i thought you mentionned tweaking mapgen lua to air for trees? |
02:01 |
mauvebic |
if you did that, saplings wont grow indeed |
02:02 |
VanessaE |
sdzen: I don't edit anything under default. I'll occasionally redefine stuff, for example ^^^^^^ that code successfully redefines default trunks, leaves, apples but the redefined sapling and wood don't actually change (they're still reporting with old textures/descriptions in-game) |
02:02 |
VanessaE |
mauvebic: wha? you mean the default abm uses the MAPGEN ALIAS for saplings?! |
02:02 |
mauvebic |
theres your problem |
02:02 |
VanessaE |
oh FFS. |
02:02 |
VanessaE |
what moron wrote that? |
02:03 |
sdzen |
sounds like something pilzadam or c55 would do |
02:03 |
mauvebic |
noticed this when i made my space game :P back when you couldn't disable trees with mg_flags |
02:03 |
NotReallyNick |
Hmm. Is default in moretrees depends.txt? |
02:03 |
VanessaE |
hmmmm: are you here? can you commit a quick fix for that please? |
02:03 |
VanessaE |
NotReallyNick: yes. |
02:03 |
VanessaE |
and..my sapling disappeared. turned into air. |
02:03 |
VanessaE |
G*d damn it all. |
02:04 |
mauvebic |
lol its a good thing i remembered what you said, or we might have been on this for days lol |
02:04 |
VanessaE |
THIS is why I wanted a proper, clean way to disable trees from within my own mod damn it! |
02:04 |
NotReallyNick |
Hmm. I have no idea. Sorry. |
02:04 |
mauvebic |
why not remove the trees flag? |
02:04 |
NotReallyNick |
Yeah, that'd work. |
02:04 |
VanessaE |
mauvebic: because there's no way to READ that flag (or any flag) from a mod. |
02:04 |
mauvebic |
now im confused lol |
02:05 |
VanessaE |
and there's no way to set it either. |
02:05 |
ShadowNinja |
VanessaE: I think we are safe from LM now :-) |
02:05 |
mauvebic |
your mod should ignore the flag either way - if people installed it, they obviously want your trees |
02:05 |
sdzen |
yes |
02:05 |
NotReallyNick |
Don't read it from the plugin. If people want trees disabled, they'll do it themselves. |
02:05 |
VanessaE |
mauvebic: not necessarily, for the longest time, I left beech trees disabled because they slowed the map generator down too much |
02:06 |
mauvebic |
well you can disable specific trees from within the mods, but the mg flags themselves are for the mapgen, not mods people install afterwards |
02:06 |
mauvebic |
if people complain, theyre dumb |
02:06 |
VanessaE |
yeah, and growing saplings -> trees is not mapgen |
02:06 |
mauvebic |
naw but the mapgen places trees on new chunks, so it does fall under the mapgen |
02:07 |
NotReallyNick |
Why do you want to take over the default saplings? |
02:07 |
mauvebic |
yeah id leave the default trees be |
02:07 |
mauvebic |
in case people want them |
02:07 |
mauvebic |
your trees are pretty tall, they dont fit everywhere |
02:07 |
VanessaE |
NotReallyNick: hard to explain. |
02:08 |
VanessaE |
I'm replacing default trees with beech trees, which are only a tad bit taller, and thicker. |
02:08 |
NotReallyNick |
Just give beech trees their own saplings. |
02:08 |
VanessaE |
and are l-system based |
02:08 |
mauvebic |
i mean i love them, but i still hold onto default trees and my even smaller slim trees in certain places |
02:08 |
ShadowNinja |
VanessaE: let me rephrase that, you are still op again |
02:08 |
VanessaE |
ShadowNinja: heh, ok |
02:08 |
sdzen |
oh no |
02:08 |
sdzen |
op is active |
02:08 |
sdzen |
run for the hills |
02:09 |
VanessaE |
ok so now I have to override the default sapling abm |
02:09 |
VanessaE |
fuck |
02:09 |
mauvebic |
keeps the peace when ppl know an OP is on |
02:10 |
* sdzen |
cracks knuckles |
02:10 |
mauvebic |
or not lol |
02:10 |
sdzen |
time to cause trouble |
02:10 |
NotReallyNick |
Default sapling is in C++, not Lua. Good luck. |
02:10 |
VanessaE |
shit. |
02:10 |
VanessaE |
stupid stupid stupid |
02:10 |
mauvebic |
youd think mobs would be cpp, and default trees in lua lol |
02:10 |
sdzen |
trees should actually grow |
02:10 |
NotReallyNick |
Why? Just leave the poor default trees alone. |
02:10 |
sdzen |
not like on node to a whole effin tree |
02:10 |
mauvebic |
that can be painful |
02:11 |
mauvebic |
growing trees dont stop growing |
02:11 |
sdzen |
ahem |
02:11 |
ShadowNinja |
well this is bizare, rsync created a world dir under my backup dur so that it is making two copies |
02:11 |
mauvebic |
unless you wanna waste resources calculating their size |
02:12 |
sdzen |
hmmm |
02:12 |
mauvebic |
but trees are a simple thing, and should behave as so |
02:14 |
NotReallyNick |
I think current tree growth is fine. The game isn't meant to be realistic. |
02:14 |
mauvebic |
not to that degree anyways |
02:15 |
|
Menche joined #minetest |

https://github.com/minetest/common/pull/26 |
02:16 |
NotReallyNick |
Heck no, jordan4ibanez. |
02:16 |
jordan4ibanez |
NotReallyNick you are so negative about everything |
02:17 |
jordan4ibanez |
People like me like fire, and think there should be a way to keep it lite |
02:17 |
NotReallyNick |
Not everything, just stupid things. |
02:17 |
jordan4ibanez |
s/lite/lit |
02:17 |
jordan4ibanez |
IGNORED! |
02:17 |
NotReallyNick |
Fire needs fuel. Unless the obsidian burns away, then it shouldn't keep it lit. |
02:18 |
NotReallyNick |
And ... commented. |
02:18 |
jordan4ibanez |
But yeah, this is pretty good, if there are riots over this, maybe someone could come around and change it to {group:fire_fuel} or something, and create a fire_fuel block |
02:18 |
NotReallyNick |
A fuel block that burns away, maybe. |
02:21 |
NotReallyNick |
But a fuel block that burns away is the same as a flammable node, so I don't see the point. Longer lasting maybe? |
02:22 |
sdzen |
I say |
02:22 |
sdzen |
we make it powered by mese |
02:22 |
sdzen |
mese plus fire |
02:22 |
sdzen |
equals boom |
02:23 |
Menche |
mese is a sort of "magic" thing so i think making that sustain fire would be fine |
02:23 |
NotReallyNick |
I think lava should cool into mese, not obsidian. |
02:23 |
NotReallyNick |
Maybe mese ore. |
02:23 |
mauvebic |
meh, lava should cool into dark rock |
02:24 |
Hwkiller |
then mese would be way easy to get though |
02:24 |
Menche |
what about usually cools into cobble, with a chance of cooling into mese? |
02:24 |
mauvebic |
too much realism vs not enough |
02:24 |
Hwkiller |
I could go down to my mine with a bucket of water and get a ton of mese |
02:24 |
mauvebic |
mese could be regenerative |
02:24 |
NotReallyNick |
And you could do that with obsidian. The difference? |
02:24 |
mauvebic |
if you dont dig it all, it expands |
02:24 |
NotReallyNick |
Yeah, almost all things shouls be regenerative. |
02:25 |
* NotReallyNick |
is HIGHLY in favor of renewability |
02:25 |
mauvebic |
of course, the basic question is how do resources/ores form in the first place? |
02:25 |
NotReallyNick |
True. |
02:26 |
mauvebic |
if we figure that out, you can regenerate along the same lines |
02:26 |
NotReallyNick |
If I had that answer, I'd have a pull request in already. |
02:26 |
mauvebic |
wiki should have basic info |
02:26 |
mauvebic |
but im still working on sea 55 |
02:26 |
NotReallyNick |
Info on where ores come from? |
02:26 |
Menche |
maybe some method of crushing / smelting stone to get a chance at a few ingots |
02:26 |
mauvebic |
google it, either wiki or yahoo answers or stackexchange will have the answer |
02:27 |
mauvebic |
you usually find small nuggets of gold in some rivers too, could be cool |
02:27 |
NotReallyNick |
Before the obsidian update, I was planning to make lava rarely cool into ores. |
02:27 |
mauvebic |
maps should involve as much discovery as possible |
02:27 |
sdzen |
what obsidian update? |
02:27 |
mauvebic |
different resources to exploit to create different industries and towns |
02:27 |
Menche |
NotReallyNick, that sounds cool |
02:27 |
NakedFury |
^ I like that too |
02:28 |
NotReallyNick |
Too late though, lava is finite now. So anything made from lava is finite. |
02:28 |
* Menche |
says screw obsidian |
02:28 |
* NotReallyNick |
agrees |
02:28 |
mauvebic |
yeah seriously, i wasn't much interested in obsidian mod before it was default lol |
02:28 |
mauvebic |
go with real ores and diamonds instead |
02:29 |
NotReallyNick |
Obsidian was never cool. It was copied just to mimic Minecraft. |
02:29 |
Menche |
i think diamonds are sorta redundant, mese was our rare, valuable "trophy" ore |
02:29 |
mauvebic |
well you need valuables to make mining and money worthwhile |
02:29 |
NotReallyNick |
True. But diamonds aren't causing me added issues, so I mostly ignore them. |
02:29 |
* sdzen |
"okay thats it! we need to be original!" |
02:30 |
* sdzen |
starts copying inifiniminer |
02:30 |
NotReallyNick |
Four tool types was more than enough though. |
02:30 |
Menche |
...and i'm not sure who thought making tools out of pure diamond was sensible |
02:30 |
mauvebic |
well to be original, we need to propose and make pulls for something better than whats there |
02:31 |
Menche |
coating with diamond dust, maybe. that is done irl |
02:31 |
NotReallyNick |
I'm trying, I have five pulls to common in right now. |
02:31 |
mauvebic |
diamonds are the best thing to cut with |
02:32 |
NotReallyNick |
Menche: If you are proposing diamond plus steel, I disagree. Steel is too valuable to waste on tools. |
02:32 |
Menche |
what else is steel used for? i use steel tools. |
02:32 |
Hwkiller |
steel is too valuable? |
02:32 |
Hwkiller |
it's so freaking common though |
02:33 |
jordan4ibanez |
We should have iron tools instead of steel |
02:33 |
Menche |
maybe any type of tool could be enhanced by encrusting it with diamond dust |
02:33 |
sdzen |
yes |
02:33 |
NotReallyNick |
Steel is the only thing you can make stuff out of that other people can't wreck. So you need a lot of it. |
02:33 |
Menche |
...? |
02:33 |
jordan4ibanez |
we can make a forge, which when you combine iron with obsidian, fueled by a lava bucket you get steel |
02:33 |
NotReallyNick |
Encrusting any tool sonds good. |
02:33 |
Hwkiller |
or play with better people |
02:34 |
* NotReallyNick |
builds elaborate houses out of steel doors and locked chests |
02:35 |
jordan4ibanez |
since steel needs carbon, and since obsidian contains carbon, it would be the best source |
02:35 |
Menche |
coal contains carbon |
02:35 |
NotReallyNick |
I don't really do that, but I do pawn off every thing I own to get more steel. |
02:36 |
* NotReallyNick |
only uses coal for torches, but wood has carbon too |
02:36 |
mauvebic |
and burning forests gies coal too technically |
02:36 |
jordan4ibanez |
well that too, and why aren't trees able to be burned into charcoal anymore? that could be a source also |
02:36 |
mauvebic |
or coal ash |
02:36 |
Menche |
really burning any plant matter would produce some carbon |
02:36 |
mauvebic |
and dead biomatter leads to shale |
02:37 |
Menche |
don't have a problem with iron smelting to steel |
02:37 |
NotReallyNick |
I'd LOVE to have smelting trees give coal again. |
02:37 |
mauvebic |
who removed it, and why? |
02:37 |
* Menche |
thinks that gravel should have a *very* rare chance of dropping some kind of ore |
02:38 |
* NotReallyNick |
loves Ubuntu's ability to dim the monitor on his laptop. Mint lacks that. |
02:38 |
sdzen |
quartz |
02:38 |
sdzen |
:) |
02:38 |
Menche |
and that you should be able to somehow crush cobble and stone into gravel |
02:38 |
NotReallyNick |
That works for me. |
02:38 |
sdzen |
ive got it |
02:38 |
sdzen |
drop for cobble becomes gravel |
02:38 |
sdzen |
gravel is smelted back to cobble |
02:38 |
NotReallyNick |
Okay. Good. |
02:38 |
sdzen |
cobble to stone |
02:38 |
jordan4ibanez |
these are great ideas |
02:38 |
Menche |
that would be a bit inconvenient |
02:39 |
NotReallyNick |
Maybe cobble crafts into gravel then. |
02:39 |
Menche |
or make a new kind of crafting mechanism, a "press" |
02:39 |
mauvebic |
if we had a default grinder cobble could be turned to gravel |
02:39 |
NotReallyNick |
And gravel crafts into desert sand. |
02:39 |
mauvebic |
a plain one not something that depends on half a dozen megamods |
02:39 |
Menche |
would crush cobble into gravel, papyrus into paper |
02:40 |
NotReallyNick |
And stone smelts into desert stone .... |
02:40 |
Menche |
could crush wood planks into sticks |
02:40 |
sdzen |
yes! |
02:40 |
mauvebic |
wood -> wood chips |
02:40 |
Menche |
clay into clay bricks, which would need smelting into normal bricks |
02:40 |
sdzen |
we also should have a workbench in the default |
02:40 |
sdzen |
a 4x4 one |
02:41 |
sdzen |
and transfer a bunch of recipes to it |
02:41 |
NotReallyNick |
Okay, as long as we keep our 3^2 menu craft grid. |
02:41 |
mauvebic |
well player crafting should be smaller grid than a workbench, automatically limiting what you can do away from town |
02:41 |
sdzen |
yes |
02:41 |
sdzen |
so 4x4 for the benche |
02:41 |
NotReallyNick |
No, a smaller crafting grid would suck. |
02:41 |
sdzen |
and 3x3 for the other |
02:41 |
Menche |
what about making the heads of tools crafted separate from the handle? too complicated? |
02:42 |
sdzen |
nope |
02:42 |
sdzen |
I wanted to do that |
02:42 |
sdzen |
it got shot down by anyone I pitched it to though |
02:42 |
Menche |
have the tool head affect digging speed, and the handle affect the # of uses |
02:42 |
NotReallyNick |
Hmm. Not complicated, but ... I guess if the tool heads were stackable, that would be okay. |
02:42 |
sdzen |
haha yes! |
02:42 |
Menche |
...would need a ton of tool definitions, though |
02:43 |
sdzen |
doesnt matter |
02:43 |
* Menche |
doesn't think see why anything should be un-stackable |
02:44 |
Menche |
err, ignore the "think", typo :P |
02:44 |
NakedFury |
I would have prefered to use a very small crafting window exactly like in minecraft and then craft the necessary crafting stations like other many games use |
02:44 |
sdzen |
nah |
02:44 |
sdzen |
with bigger windows |
02:44 |
sdzen |
you can have more realistic recipes |
02:44 |
sdzen |
somewhat more realistic |
02:44 |
Menche |
think that you should be able to use recipes in the furnace |
02:44 |
Menche |
as in, multiple input slots |
02:45 |
bas080 |
Is there a best practice in lua for checking if list contains string? It is a one dimensional array. Or is there a minetest api function i should use? |
02:45 |
NakedFury |
its not realistic to craft everything by hand without special tools or a station |
02:45 |
Menche |
that takes different patterns like the normal grid |
02:45 |
Menche |
or make a "forge" that is separate from the furnace |
02:45 |
bas080 |
NakedFury, that is exactly what i am working on atm |
02:46 |
sdzen |
NakedFury: like I said, convert many of the recipes to a 4x4 bench |
02:46 |
sdzen |
limit the 3x3's recipes by alot, but still have a few things |
02:46 |
Menche |
and a "mortar and pestel" or "mixer" for making and mixing dyes? |
02:47 |
bas080 |
But does anyone know an answer for my question. "Is there a best practice in lua for checking if list contains string? It is a one dimensional array. Or is there a minetest api function i should use?" |
02:48 |
NakedFury |
yes menche |
02:48 |
NakedFury |
anvil to craft metal tool |
02:48 |
bas080 |
NakedFury, if you wait a bit i have a descent start for what you and Menche are talking about. |
02:48 |
Menche |
we have been discussing like half a dozen different things here :P |
02:49 |
bas080 |
Very good! |
02:49 |
bas080 |
New ideas |
02:49 |
Menche |
once someone made an api for registering new types of crafting, forget where |
02:50 |
* Menche |
digs through old pages of Mod Releases |
02:50 |
Hwkiller |
found another massive cave; awesome |
02:50 |
bas080 |
I am making a tool which allows to make crafting nodes that only allow certain crafts. They only allow nodes with certain crafts |
02:50 |
NakedFury |
in Skyrym and other rpg online game you need different stations for different crafting types |
02:50 |
bas080 |
they only allow certain nodes to craft with* |
02:51 |
Menche |
so, a "press" for crushing rock and making paper, a "forge" for crafting the heads of tools, a "mixer" for dyes |
02:51 |
bas080 |
so you can make crafting benches for specific crafts |
02:51 |
bas080 |
yes that can be made. it is very generic. |
02:52 |
bas080 |
I can easily add the capability to edit the formspec per craft bench. I just need to know how to check if string is in a certain array and i can show you the first prototype |
02:53 |
|
salamanderrake joined #minetest |
02:53 |
bas080 |
Version two will have crafting bench per mod. It will allow an api to add a crafting bench for one's mod. |
02:56 |
bas080 |

02:57 |
VanessaE |
fuck it, I give up on the tree replacement code. |
02:58 |
bas080 |
replacing what trees? the default ones or moretrees trees? |
02:58 |
VanessaE |
ripped it all out, reverted beech trees to just act like any other tree. disabled by default. want them? turn them on and turn off default trees in map_meta.txt and pray to your favorite $DIETY that you don't botch that file. |
03:00 |
Hwkiller |
down to -101 |
03:00 |
NotReallyNick |
Put that setting into minetest.conf, not an internal config file. |
03:02 |
VanessaE |
NotReallyNick: won't do any good until a mod can read from map_meta.txt properly |
03:03 |
VanessaE |
well at least saplings are working properly now. |
03:03 |
NotReallyNick |
No, I mean set the moretrees variable in minetest.conf. That way, when people update moretrees, they don't have to edit the config again. |
03:06 |
VanessaE |
still wouldn't do any good. |
03:06 |
VanessaE |
you have to edit map_meta.txt to turn default trees off. |
03:06 |
VanessaE |
so it's still two files no matter how to slice it. |
03:06 |
NotReallyNick |
It would do good when updating moretrees. |
03:06 |
VanessaE |
that is what I wanted to avoid. |
03:07 |
NotReallyNick |
VanessaE: You CAN read from map_meta. Read it as a file in the world directry, and parse it yourself. |
03:07 |
VanessaE |
as for moretrees' settings, if someone wants to pull request with a patch that'll move settings.lua to the world folder or something, like technic and other mods do, then I'll be happy to include it. |
03:07 |
Menche |
rollback_check is soooo sloooow... |
03:07 |
mauvebic |
oh sixpack, we barely knew yee |
03:08 |
NotReallyNick |
VanessaE: Why have a separate settings.lua in the first place? Why not put it in minetest.conf? |
03:08 |
VanessaE |
because they should be world-specific settings. |
03:08 |
VanessaE |
if not mod-specific |
03:08 |

and i found a perfectly business-like solution to dealing with my isp: ill go down there in person, crack open some skulls, and feast on the warm goo inside |
03:09 |
VanessaE |
whole-server-wide is wrong imho. |
03:09 |
Menche |
aren't there world-specific minetest.confs now? |
03:09 |
VanessaE |
NotReallyNick: there are about 15 or 20 config variables for moretrees, so dumping them into minetest.conf wouldn't be good. |
03:09 |
VanessaE |
Menche: beats me, I don't know how to use such things. |
03:10 |

thanks to lava cooling, a griefer left a nice stone shelf over a lake on my server |
03:11 |
mauvebic |
how did the griefer place water or lava in 1st place? |
03:11 |
NotReallyNick |
It's better than non-removable stone. |
03:11 |
Menche |
with a bucket i'm assuming... |
03:12 |
mauvebic |
why not disable them then? |
03:12 |
Hwkiller |
sorry to ask this; what is the best "trash" mod, assuming that any of them are decent |
03:12 |
mauvebic |
or make a priv |
03:12 |
NotReallyNick |
Disabling buckets is lame. |
03:12 |
Menche |
then nobody can use it :P |
03:12 |
mauvebic |
bucket priv then, if they dont have it, it dont work |
03:12 |
Menche |
oh, and it seems that lava cooling doesn't work with rollback? |
03:12 |
Menche |
rollback left the cooled stone |
03:13 |
mauvebic |
because no one placed it |
03:13 |
Menche |
rollback can detect and undo fire damage |
03:13 |
mauvebic |
anything done by an abm cant be reverse unless abm changes are recorded |
03:13 |
Menche |
like if someone burns a tree down |
03:13 |
mauvebic |
then, theyre recording fire changes but nothing else |
03:13 |
VanessaE |
hmmmm: is it possible to include custom flags on the mg_flags line in map_meta.txt at least? |
03:13 |
Menche |
if lava cooling is in by default then it should be added to rollback recording |
03:13 |
VanessaE |
e.g. mg_flags = caves, v6_blend_whatever, beeches |
03:14 |
VanessaE |
instead of mg_flags = caves, v6_blend_whatever, trees |

03:21 |

I should make 4x4 and 1x1 versions of HDX ;) |
03:21 |

besides, you can get that by deleting all the textures and letting the game generate dummy textures |

VanessaE: 8^2, as well. |
03:22 |

03:22 |
khonkhortisan |
So... I could create a mod that deletes every registered_nodes.tiles? |
03:22 |
Menche |
Casimir's "cute8" pack actually doesn't look that much different from default |
03:23 |
Menche |
loop through the minetest.registered_nodes table and set all the tiles to nil? |
03:25 |

rollback may be acting slow right now, but it's still better than fixing by hand |
03:28 |
Menche |
when lava is spilled, the area remains perpetually lit even when it's cleared |

03:36 |

They both have pull requests, but they're not exactly compatibly |
03:37 |
khonkhortisan |
you have to use github to pull request from two branches on github |
03:37 |
khonkhortisan |
*compatible |
03:37 |
khonkhortisan |
you have to fork, clone, branch, commit, push branch, pull request. |

But you can skip branching if you don't want your master to be clean |

12:39 |
PilzAdam |
I need to switch the model completly when the sheep gets sheared |
12:40 |
jordan4ibanez |
Why? That just makes more things that the player needs to download, why not change the animation to fit the sheared, or unsheared, it's much simpler |
12:40 |

12:52 |

12:57 |

Obsidian is not fire, and case not closed. Also, apparently people are using obsidian to build strong bases. Should these bases catch fire and never go out? A special node would be better. |

No, that still has the obsidian base issue. |

what obsidian *could* reasonably do is act as insulation for fire - fire with enough obsidian around it could burn longer but still eventually go out. |

Notreallynick, this doesn't light obsidian on fire, it keeps fire from going, and yes that would be very cool actually |

Taoki: you should use the Worldedit file format. |

NotReallyNick |
Or were you saying seeds are bad? |
13:05 |
VanessaE |

13:06 |
NotReallyNick |
Okay. Without some form of flower regeneration, they won't last long. Wool and dyes are popular. |
13:06 |
jordan4ibanez |
Seeds probably are bad, you're going to have to have a dependancy on pilzadam's farming mod :P |

13:06 |

The seeds are simple. If planted on desert sand, they become dry shrubs. If planted on dirt_with_grass, they become a randome flower, grass, or jungle grass. |

How do you get / set the facedir ot a node (param2)? |
13:18 |
OGLandmine |
btw hi VanessaE |

some flowers could be perennials...ores do not need to regenerate ...my opinion... |

13:18 |
Leoneof |
VanessaE: ok, i will try old version from debian repo |
13:19 |
VanessaE |
Taoki: paramtype="facedir" in the node def, then add_node(pos, {name="xxxx", param2=number}) |
13:19 |
VanessaE |
where the number is as described in the API |
13:19 |
VanessaE |
fuck |
13:19 |
VanessaE |
Taoki: paramtype2="facedir" in the node def, then add_node(pos, {name="xxxx", param2=number}) |
13:20 |
Taoki |
VanessaE: So meta:get_string(paramtype="facedir") to get it? |
13:20 |
VanessaE |
Leoneof: it might not be that you need an "old" version, as much as you need to make sure your OS knows to actually *use* the driver. |
13:20 |
Taoki |
I need to get it / set it for existing nodes BTW, such as torches and stairs |
13:20 |
VanessaE |
Taoki: paramtype2, sorry. and no, you don't use metadata to get it |
13:20 |
Taoki |
I can't modify the nodes themselves to add it |
13:20 |
Taoki |
ok |
13:20 |
Jordach |
OGLandmine, does a pickaxe mine blocks on its own? |
13:20 |
VanessaE |
it's a regular register_node() field. |
13:20 |
VanessaE |
e.g. get_node(pos).param2 |
13:21 |
VanessaE |
or something like that |
13:21 |
Taoki |
So it's minetest.env:get_node(pos).facedir ? |
13:21 |
VanessaE |
no, .param2 |
13:21 |
Leoneof |
VanessaE: really i have no idea, it's Debian 7, other games are very smooth |
13:21 |
OGLandmine |
Jordach i have no idea what you are asking |

ok, will test |

do you love me now Jordach__ im being a good kid |
13:22 |
VanessaE |
param2 is the name if the actual variable that sets the facedir, paramtype2 is what tells the register_node() call what the variable means. |
13:22 |
VanessaE |
I'm warning you. don't start your crap. |

13:25 |

param2 too I think. I'm trying to print it as a test (in print() ) |

So I need a stair that faces south to face north for instance. But the same formula must rotate torches properly |
14:24 |
VanessaE |
Taoki: the default is for the front of the node to face Z-, so set facedir to 1, Z+ |

The table in documentation says something else though. 0 = y+ ; 1 = z+ ; 2 = z- ; 3 = x+ ; 4 = x- ; 5 = y- |

14:25 |
VanessaE |
yep. |
14:25 |
Taoki |
Traxie21|Kindle: yeah |
14:26 |
VanessaE |
Taoki: no, 2/Z- is the default if not set, 1 is facing Z+. |
14:26 |
Taoki |
ok. I read it ranges between 0 and 5 however. Makes no sense how to flip all possible positions |
14:26 |
Traxie21|Kindle |
Taoki: /me approves of your choice of pony. |
14:26 |
Taoki |
:) |
14:26 |
VanessaE |
Taoki: or more correctly, if a node has no facedir at all, the "front" of the node faces toward Z-, so it would be the same as giving it a facedir with a value of 2. |
14:27 |
VanessaE |
Taoki: so if you wanna flip it to face Z+, you need to set facedir to 1. |
14:27 |
Taoki |
I did |

Taoki: so basically: if fdir==2 then flipdir=1 elseif fdir==1 then flipdir=2 elseif fdir==3 then flipdir=4 elseif fdir==4 then flipdir=3 end |
14:29 |
VanessaE |
where flipdir now equals the mirror of fdir. |
14:29 |
VanessaE |
at least for X/Z coords. |
14:29 |
VanessaE |
and that only applies if you aren't using the full nature of 6d facedir. |
14:29 |
Taoki |
Ohh, right. 2 of them are ignored since I'm only rotating horizontally |
14:29 |
Taoki |
So I don't transform Y. Silly me |
14:30 |
VanessaE |
Taoki: right. |

Vanessa, I actually installed Ubuntu to my drive like a normal HDD |
14:32 |

Traxie21|Kindle: that should work fairly well too |
14:33 |

just bear in mind that thumbdrives have poor write endurance, so you should try to run it read-only if you can |

14:34 |
Traxie21|Kindle |

14:34 |
Taoki |
Traxie21|Kindle: Some seem to be rotating incorrectly, others not at all |

14:35 |
Taoki |
ahhh |
14:35 |

anyone else noticed this issue with minetest textures? when a mod has a image overlayed over annother(for example the ores in moreores) if the lower image(stone) has a higher resolution than the ore image the ore image will only show up in the top left corner, I think it should be overlayed over the entire node because although it will look out of place it will be better than not finding any ores bacause you have a 512x texture pack and |

So if you put a 16x16 image on a 20x20 image, it should scale to 80 pixels so it scales evenly? |
15:41 |
VanessaE |
no, it should just zoom the 16px image at the renderer stage or whatever |
15:41 |
VanessaE |
it's not like the 20px image is only ever seen at 20px in size in practice |
15:41 |
khonkhortisan |
if the 16 only went to 20, you'd have four pixels that were double wide |
15:41 |
VanessaE |
it's more like 1000px when you're up close |
15:42 |
VanessaE |
nonono, scale it at the rendering stage, not at the layering stage |
15:42 |
VanessaE |
does a 16px texture of say stone look any different in apparent size than say, a 64px texture of dirt on the node next to it? |
15:43 |
|
jin_xi joined #minetest |
15:43 |
VanessaE |
they look the same size because they're scaled to the same relative dimensions, even though they're not the same rez. |
15:44 |
khonkhortisan |
I wonder if, in attempting to scale the smaller image, someone accidentally will scale the larger one too |

It looks like someone called me while I slept, but I can't see it in the log. Did someone need me? |
22:34 |
khonkhortisan |
haha io.input |
22:35 |
VanessaE |
that's how I ended up doing it, once I understood what they meant in the PiL. |
22:35 |
khonkhortisan |
That's happened to me too, I was highlighted, but happened to be on the same channel |
22:37 |
Doyousketch2 |
I suppose, but you might be able to do a similar thing, just by calling the libPNG or libJPEG library |
22:38 |
VanessaE |
in my case I was asleep :) |
22:38 |
khonkhortisan |
Can xchat beep when I'm highlighted? |
22:39 |
Doyousketch2 |
the one was called BIMP - http://www.alessandrofrancesconi.it/projects/bimp/ - and the other is DBP - http://members.ozemail.com.au/~hodsond/dbp.html |
22:39 |
Doyousketch2 |
might be able to pull apart their code if you need to |
22:39 |
Doyousketch2 |
yeah, there's a setting to turn on beebs |
22:39 |
Doyousketch2 |
beeps. sorry dyslexic. I flip b's and p's all the time |
22:39 |
VanessaE |
khonkhortisan: Settings -> Preferences -> Sound -> Channel Msg Highlight I would guess. |
22:40 |
VanessaE |
connect that to a sound file and it'll probably work, I don't use it myself |
22:40 |
VanessaE |
(I don't use any sounds in IRC in fact) |
22:40 |
khonkhortisan |
they're all empty for me |
22:40 |
VanessaE |
browse to a suitable sound file :) |
22:41 |
* khonkhortisan |
looks for an xchat soundpack |

22:48 |
khonkhortisan |

i hate the new gmail - can you recommend something? |
22:52 |
NotReallyNick |
The old Gmail. I think it's still available. |
22:52 |

I forget how I switched back. SOrry. |
22:54 |
khonkhortisan |
VanessaE, did you forget an io.close()? |
22:55 |
Kacey |
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CAn22TiVV0&feature=endscreen&NR=1 |
22:56 |
VanessaE |
khonkhortisan: no, you don't use io.close if the io.open failed. |
22:56 |
khonkhortisan |
HAHAHAHA http://postimg.org/image/khzdycp1t/ |
22:56 |
VanessaE |
so if it == nil then the open failed, so there's no close to execute. |
22:57 |
khonkhortisan |
I only did io.input, io.output, io.write, and io.close |
22:57 |
VanessaE |
as for closing the io.input/output calls, I don't see a need, as that code is only executed at startup :-) |
22:57 |
VanessaE |
(translation: too lazy ;) ) |
22:58 |
khonkhortisan |
I'm running it once-per-image, so I got the too many open files thing |
