the true story behind that video: 100 individual graphs in LibreOffice calc |
13:00 |
rubenwardy |
lol |
13:00 |
tenplus1 |
ehehe |
13:00 |
Krock |
added together with some tool to make a gif, then converted to an mp4 |
13:00 |
Krock |
it's devilish |
13:01 |
rubenwardy |
the code dumps the state to a file every so often |
13:01 |
tenplus1 |
would be nice if LO5 had an export to animgif feature |
13:01 |
rubenwardy |
I then use a bash script to convert those state files to a png using GNUPlot |
13:01 |
rubenwardy |
and then combine into a .mp4 with ffmpeg |
13:03 |
Krock |
heh nice :) The title could however either be bold or larger. Loks like an axis |
13:04 |
Krock |
or is it the name of the right scale? I don't see any description for that one |
13:04 |
rubenwardy |
it's the name of the right scale |
13:04 |
rubenwardy |
may be a title actually |
13:04 |
rubenwardy |
yeah, it's the title in the .plt |
13:06 |
Krock |
something's wrong if you have to look up the source file :P |
13:06 |
Krock |
s/wrong/suboptimal/ |
13:06 |
rubenwardy |
well, the right key is velocity |
13:06 |
rubenwardy |
I was wondering if it's the render being weird (unlikely) |
13:07 |
rubenwardy |
I didn't write the .plt, just the bash script |

hi aerozoic |
13:35 |
Mr-Pardison |
what kind of mutton? |
13:35 |
tenplus1 |
and rabbit meat / fur |
13:35 |
tenplus1 |
was thinking of adding raw mutton, cooked mutton, raw rabbit, cooked rabbit, rabbit pelt |
13:36 |
aerozoic |
That just triggered a thought, have you ever considered adding game animals like deer and elk? |
13:37 |
tenplus1 |
kpgmobs has deer/elk |
13:37 |
Mr-Pardison |
if we had those, I'd like to have a rifle to hunt them with. |
13:37 |
aerozoic |
oh it's already done? XD |
13:37 |
tenplus1 |
kpg did many of the animals :) we just never included them all |
13:38 |
tenplus1 |
at present all animals drop the standard mobs:meat_raw, so would be nice to have specific meats now that cooking mods and more food mods area appearing |
13:39 |

Variety is always better :) |

it's ok aerozoic, basically if too many get_node's happen per player is can lag a server filled with players, so I gave it a 5 second delay so it wouldnt do that |
14:05 |
tenplus1 |
hi sniper |
14:06 |
tenplus1 |
areas mod doesnt need get_node cause it's all stored in a file and tables... it does it a different way, but if file/table is corrupt you lose ALL protection |

idk if the pause menu is the same on there, but I could add those |
14:16 |

idk if that's within the scope of your pause menu idea |

yeah you can just leave anticheat on and deal with the issues, or turn it off and play, because anticheat is indeed strict. my case was modifying gravity/speed/jump combinations and triggering it that way. |

Megaf the memory use due to joining your server is probably from mods, you do have hundreds and lots of intensive and unoptimised ones: mesecons, darkage, homedecor, plantlife, moretrees etc. so it's your fault =) |
16:36 |
benrob0329 |
paramat: I dont think he said it wasn't, its pretty obvious that a lot of mods == a lot of ram |

16:41 |
Megaf_ |
paramat, I think one of the things that causes big RAM usage are actually the textures |
16:41 |
paramat |
it's the usual problem: a server owner adds 200 mods, many excessively intensive on their own, then wonders why they have problems, then blames MT and the devs |
16:42 |
benrob0329 |
I try to keep my server as minimal as possible while still having what we (my friends and i) need to build |
16:42 |
Megaf_ |
paramat, I don't blame for that, I don't like the word blame. I'm not saying I don't understand the dev side. I'm saying, my point is. MT still getting more features, not saying this is bad, yet, little time is going on removing legacy and old stuff. It's just an observation. |

16:43 |
paramat |
yes textures |
16:43 |
Megaf_ |
benrob0329, I used to try to keep it as minimal as possible. Then I noticed it changes almost nothing. It more of a matter of configuration and compilation optimzations |

tenplus1 |
damn, that's a LOT of nodes |
18:38 |
Sokomine |
moretrees and other plants are very demanding regarding their environment. a lot of the time it takes in mapgen is spent searching for the right conditions (light, water sources, ...) |
18:40 |
tenplus1 |
yeah, it's quite a heavy albeit beautiful mod |
18:42 |
Megaf_ |
Time to make some coffee |
18:43 |
tenplus1 |
we could see what moretrees does that is so intensive and break it down to see if it is possible to have a new feature that would handle it better |
18:43 |
_Megaf |
problem is just the date palm |
18:44 |
tenplus1 |
do they really have to grow ? have the sapling grow a tree with dates and chop it down, re-grow for more dates... |
18:45 |
tenplus1 |
personally I'd remove that feature |
18:45 |
_Megaf |
date palms keep getting larger |
18:45 |
_Megaf |
so every step of the grow includes calculations I think |
18:45 |
Sokomine |
tenplus1: i've taken a look at the spawning some time ago. there really are so many conditions regarding when to place which plant that i wasn't able to find anything more efficient. vanessae has spread the spawning functions over several steps so that mapgen reacts faster now |
18:45 |
tenplus1 |
yeah globalstep really helps it a lot |
18:46 |
Sokomine |
oh? do they really grow now? intresting. never observed that. i thought growing trees was a diffrent mod (by sapier?). those special growing trees kept chaning all the time |

I will play I think, if I upgrade the CPU of this laptop |
19:21 |
tenplus1 |
what spec ? |
19:21 |
_Megaf |
AFAIK I can replace this 1,6 GHz Core2Duo to a 2,5 GHz Core2Duo with more cache, more FSB and same TDP |
19:21 |
_Megaf |
it was the highest spec for this line |
19:21 |
tenplus1 |
not too bad |
19:22 |
_Megaf |
However, the socket does support a Core2Quad with even higher clock. Tho I don't know if the motherboard/BIOS will support |
19:25 |
_Megaf |
I could add a Core 2 Extreme QX9300, 4 cores at 2,53GHz |
19:25 |
_Megaf |
that would be a very nice upgrade |
19:25 |
_Megaf |
It's only 10 Watts TDP above the current CPU |
19:27 |
_Megaf |
If it wasnt so expensive I would try the quad core version http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Original-Intel-Core-2-Extreme-QX9300-2-53-GHz-AW80581ZH061003-Processor-CPU/282051283432?hash=item41ab9109e8:g:gS0AAOSwepZXSQgH |

not bad, so long as it works :) what gpu you got ? |
19:28 |

19:29 |

19:31 |

tenplus1, I kinda like having 4 cores because compiling and stuff and multi tasking |
19:31 |

Modern CPUs have more power at lower clocks right? That explains why a 2016 Xeon *core* with 2.5 Ghz wins against an AMD Opteron 2.6 Ghz core |
19:34 |
_Megaf |
They are more efficient at some tasks yes |
19:34 |
_Megaf |
Opteron still king in some tasks |
19:35 |
_Megaf |
lets say that Opterons can run lots of things at the same time |
19:35 |

you just keep throwing things at them and they will not hang |
19:35 |

/clearobjects quick will basically update a timestamp in env_meta.txt "last_clear_objects_time = 23845738" and each mapblock that gets loaded contains a "last cleared" timestamp if I understood it correctly...if that last cleared time < last_clear_objects_time then the engine will delete all objects of it |

if an item is in a stack then meta will be copied to them all I think |

treat itemstack meta like player attributes |
