01:58 minetest_player_ hi... i want to keep my minetest worlds on an external hard drive, including during gameplay. i'm running opensuse leap and installed MT and MTG from the regular package management
02:01 minetest_player_ i wouldn't mind also keeping games and mods on the drive
02:02 Glorfindel are you having issues figuring out how to do this or?
02:03 minetest_player_ yea
02:03 minetest_player_ there isn't anything about it in the settings
02:05 Glorfindel ahh
02:05 Glorfindel is this a server or just client-side?
02:05 minetest_player_ just the client
02:06 Glorfindel ah
02:07 Glorfindel you should be able to specify what world to open by launching from command line
02:07 Glorfindel or terminal or whatever
02:07 Glorfindel otherwise there may be a setting to change the default storage folders, but I'm not sure as this isn't something I've ever wanted to do :)
02:08 minetest_player_ i figured it was likely a command line option
02:08 Glorfindel I can get you the command line option, hang on one sec
02:11 Glorfindel hm, I'm not sure it's working like I thought it would
02:12 minetest_player_ ah
02:12 minetest_player_ it's not a big deal
02:12 minetest_player_ thanks for looking around for it :)
02:12 Glorfindel the option I was thinking of is --world, but you might have to use that to set up a server and connect to it locally
02:12 Glorfindel a bit of a run around but should work fine :)
02:13 minetest_player_ that's what I thought about doing, just setting up a server located on the drive and then connecting to it
02:13 minetest_player_ i'll probably end up doing that
02:25 minetest_player_ left #minetest
02:31 ANAND I use symlinks for this purpose
02:31 ANAND I have multiple builds pointing at the same worlds and mods directories, and symlinks fit the bill perfectly.

03:25 freelikegnu is there a way to check if the player is wielding something without causing a crash?
03:27 freelikegnu both get_wield_index() and get_wielded_item() will crash if I use them to check

05:34 gh00p Just wondering, if I set up a server with the current version, what will happen to clients on Android, since Google Play currently has v 5.0, and f-droid has 5.1.

15:42 dennisjenkins Hello Wuzzy.  I have ported the latest pipeworks (from contentdb, not from VanessaE's gitlab) to hades.  There are a few minor bugs, but I like it for an alpha port.
15:42 dennisjenkins Are you interested in replacing the legacy pipeworks in hades w/ the one that I have?
15:43 Wuzzy hmm idk. post a link and i look at it
15:43 dennisjenkins Mine adds sorting tubes, vacuum tubes, and fixes ability for the filter thingy to extract from chests and furances, and the furnace auto-ignites when it has fuel + burnables.
15:43 dennisjenkins ok, I'll have to tar it up.  Its not in any revision control yet.
15:44 dennisjenkins I have a few TODOs in the code, and a "TODO" file listing bugs and things not yet ported.
15:44 dennisjenkins http://www.ecoligames.com/~djenkins/Games/minetest/hades-pipeworks.tar.gz
15:45 dennisjenkins My main concern is that it will drift from the canonical pipeworks, and won't benefit from bug fixes there.
15:45 dennisjenkins I have an idea on how to abstract some things so that the core pipeworks code won't care about 'default' vs 'hades_core'.
15:45 dennisjenkins But IDK if Vanessa would be interested.  She ignored my DM.
15:46 dennisjenkins If we truly fork it away from the original pipeworks, I thought that we might rename the mod to 'hades-pipes' so that there is no confusion.
15:47 dennisjenkins and split the "tubes" from the "pipes".
15:47 dennisjenkins There is a lot of opportunity for code cleanup in there.
15:47 dennisjenkins its a bit of a mess w/ lots of layering violations.
15:48 dennisjenkins and I did not see any unit tests either.

15:52 SirTalksAlot OwO is everyone sleeping?
15:52 heavygale nope
15:52 VanessaE dennisjenkins: I'd be fine with merge requests and such as long as hades-specific stuff is in its own file, i.e. a compat.lua sort of thing
15:52 SirTalksAlot !!!!!
15:52 SirTalksAlot VanessaE!!!!!!!!1
15:52 SirTalksAlot Is here!
15:52 SirTalksAlot Wow
15:52 SirTalksAlot This is very cool
15:52 SirTalksAlot huge fan
15:52 * VanessaE stashes some of SirTalksAlot's !'s in a box for later
15:52 VanessaE hi./
15:53 VanessaE er, ok
15:54 VanessaE dennisjenkins: by which, I mean I want to avoid any "favoritism"/"bias" toward any one game (other than mtg natch)
15:54 rubenwardy should also apply to MTG
15:54 rubenwardy have a file for each game in a folder called porting
15:54 rubenwardy then you can be sure that it's solid
15:54 VanessaE well I'm not opposed to that either
15:55 rubenwardy ie: to add a new game, you could just copy mtg porting file and change it for the game
15:55 rubenwardy or any other I gues
15:55 gh00p joined #minetest
15:55 VanessaE but sine mtg is all I ever use as a base, it's up to dennisjenkins to come up with that kind of abstraction :)

16:04 VanessaE as for layering violations, I'm not sure what that means.  unit tests?  HAH!  I'm too lazy to even figure out how to write such things :P

17:09 sfan5 isn't there a newer mod that does this?
17:16 VanessaE there is, by sofar, but it's less flexible
17:17 VanessaE don't remember it's name though
17:17 VanessaE its*
17:17 sfan5 searching for item_frames find that one
17:18 sfan5 searching for pedestals brings up this?! https://github.com/Shakajiub/minetest-itemframes
17:18 VanessaE yes
17:18 VanessaE though that's not the mainline version
17:18 VanessaE but yeah, the itemframes mod also supplies pedestals.
17:19 sfan5 are homedecor itemframes a fork or written from scratch?
17:19 VanessaE they're a fork
17:19 VanessaE or in fact, a straight copy

21:41 sfan5 /sdcard/Minetest/ I believe
21:41 sfan5 note that /sdcard is actually the internal storage on Android
21:42 gh00p Perfect, thank you! I haven't run a minetest server before, is it reasonable to try to take a world and make it server-accessible? It'll be a private server shared only on the local network.

22:24 sfan5 does sound work at all?
22:24 yrungr yes, the sound works, i just can't mute or adjust it.
22:25 yrungr i'm running mineclone2, if that makes any difference.
