Is it convention to use _'s or -'s in place of spaces for mod names? |
18:44 |

_ |
18:49 |
Astrobe |
MT prohibits spaces and hyphens probably because it is multiplatform adn different file systems have slightly differnt restrictions. |
19:06 |
galaxie |
Astrobe: On hyphens? Haven't heard that one.. is that Windows or Mac? |
19:08 |

Honestly I don't really know. It might be that they allow only numbers and digits and the underscore because you can't really do CamelCase either? |

prohibiting hifens is overkill, i really prefer them over underscores = ( |
19:39 |
rubenwardy |
hyphens aren't valid in variables either |
19:39 |
rubenwardy |
so they should be prohibited, along with mod names starting with numbers |
19:40 |
rubenwardy |
because it is an enforced convention to only create global variables with the name of your mod name |
19:40 |
rubenwardy |
meaning that mods like 3d_armor which didn't have globals at one point are now forced to create badly named globals |

Are there any premade VirtualBox minetest servers for download and use instead of having to configure the entire thing by hand or any scripts to automate the process of setting up a server? |
20:51 |
sfan5 |
are you looking to automate server setup? |
20:52 |
sfan5 |
because if not, I'd just say that it's not that much to set up for a single one |
20:52 |
sfan5 |
it also depends on what you count under "set up", are you installing minetest from the repositories? |
20:53 |
linuxguy2020 |
sfan5: Yeah automate the setup if its available. I was gonna install Debian with just the CLI and install minetest-server package but it takes so long and tedious. Its super easy with a desktop installed and all that but it takes up more ram on my NAS box that Im putting the virtualbox server onto. |
20:54 |
linuxguy2020 |
sfan5: But the debian packages are too old |
20:54 |
sfan5 |

its compiled based distros, you cant get pacakages, just source |
