hello. i'm using the another charcoal mod and it appears that using the splitting axe on wood still drop the "split" wood item as well as producing wood splinters. is there anything that i can do to fix this issue? |

also, sorry for messaging here, the forums doesn't appear to want to me register and have blacklisted my current ip |

is there a way to prevent the item drop though another item? it seems that the "duplication" in the another charcoal mod happens because the mined item is still producing the dropped item as well as giving me the supposed resulting item |

i been thinking about making a charcoal mod. what is that, just turning wood into coal? |
12:30 |
Krock |
wikipedia knows |
12:30 |
jas_ |
but wood is already flammable. i dunno, i guess it's not important. not wikipedia important anyway |
12:31 |
jas_ |
i wondered before whether unifying flammable/fuel groups would make any sense |
12:31 |
jas_ |
i doubt it, and didn't consider it much further. until now, but still doubt it. |
12:32 |
jas_ |
i guess the question is whether there are fuels that are not flammable, or vise versa |

in mtg? dunno |

not all fuels are flammable. that's easy enough |

perhaps not in a stone furnace anyway, like in mtg |

Where is m_translations.at defined? |
17:16 |
adfeno |
I know "src/translation.cpp" and "src/translation.h" mention it, but I don't know where it's defined. |
17:16 |
Krock |
std::unordered_map |
17:16 |
Krock |
std library |
17:17 |
Krock |
it's like .find() on vectors |
17:18 |
Krock |
I suppose this method was chosen over operator[] to log the missing translations |
17:20 |
adfeno |
I know that "src/translations.cpp" plays try-and-catch to get what return m_translations.at(key); returns. |
17:20 |
adfeno |
but I don't know exactly how m_translations.at is composed. |
17:21 |
sfan5 |
https://en.cppreference.com/w/cpp/container/unordered_map/at |
17:21 |
adfeno |
(I don't know much about C++, but I know it must be defined somewhere) |
17:22 |
sfan5 |
once again, it's part of the standard library |
17:25 |
Krock |
adfeno: m_translations is a variable of the generic class std::unordered_map<,> |

Hm… For some reason I'm still experiencing the .[lang].tr string not found bug, even though I think I got all set for it to work. |
17:33 |
Krock |
what's the language code you'd expect? |
17:34 |
Krock |
do you use the right textdomain? |
17:34 |
Krock |
is your minetest version 5.0.0+? |
17:34 |
Krock |
did you move the stuff into the mod's locale/ directory? |
17:35 |
Krock |
(^ suggestive question) |
17:45 |
adfeno |
Minetest is 5.0.1; moved the text file of textdomain "testmod" and English translation to testmod/locale directory ("testmod.en.tr"); the file has "# textdomain:testmod" in the first line; "init.lua" calls `local S = minetest.get_translator("testmod")'; and that same file has original strings passed as S("String") . |
17:47 |
adfeno |
My last IRC message ended with 'passed as S("String")'. In case that was cut, please tell me. |
17:49 |
Krock |
not cut. you can confirm yourself by looking at the channel logs |
17:49 |
Krock |
I'm using the same code here.. no issues |
17:50 |
Krock |
any chances to translate it to non-english? |
17:50 |
adfeno |
Hm, like testing another language just to see if the translator is ignoring English? |
17:50 |
Krock |
yes |
17:50 |
adfeno |
Hm, will do a test now. |

17:58 |
adfeno |
The test I just mentioned result as follows: setting the translation file language code to pt and setting game language to that (both for testing purpose) made the translated string appear. |
18:01 |
adfeno |
I don't think Minetest should force default language for modding conventions in the code itself, it would be a group consensus guideline, but I don't think it should be in the code. |
18:01 |
adfeno |
(Don't worry, I still believe this is a bug, not an imposition to use some specific language by default). |
18:02 |
adfeno |
(I was only anticipating a reply to comments supporting that language convention hardcoded) |
18:04 |
Calinou |
that reminds me, I should add client translation support to my mods |
