Sneak elevator is faster to get down than a water elevator, for sure. Unless the lag kills you. |

I'm known to get killed by landing on the edge of a block. |
00:01 |

yeah |

much faster to go up than a ladder |

I've noticed that with 64-bit minetest, you get hurt by going down a sneak elevator |
00:02 |
p_gimeno |
at least on my system, not sure why that is |
00:02 |
p_gimeno |
does it work for everyone else? |

used to work for me |

with the new physics I know you need a bunch of nodes of cushion at the bottom |

Haven't done a sneak elevator in a while. |

Can someone give me a hint how to get rid of water sources? I mean I want to delete a 3x3 "permanent" source, is the only way to craft 9 buckets and be very fast? And after that are the buckets unusable until I go somewhere and spam 9 times water? |
15:42 |
p_gimeno |
use a regular block to replace them, e.g. dirt or wool which are easy to dig back |
15:43 |
Silizium |
Yeah, tried that already. I'm on that skyblock server of VanessaE. Doesn#t work, I can't place a block into the source. |
15:43 |
VanessaE |
that's normal for that server. |
15:44 |
VanessaE |
p_gimeno is correct, for other servers. on my skyblock, water is not buildable_to. |
15:45 |
Silizium |
:D Yeah. Uh, so I can't get rid of that crap? Well, buildable, I have "created" a lot of sources without breaking my head because usually they are easy to kill. But now I got a big hole in the floor where I don't want it anymore, hehe. |
15:45 |
VanessaE |
drop sand or gravel into the water from above. |
15:45 |
Silizium |
Thanks I try that. :) |
15:45 |
VanessaE |
(as in place it against a wall a couple meters above the water and let it fall in) |
15:46 |
Silizium |
perfect |
15:46 |
Silizium |
Understood, I can work with that |
15:56 |
Silizium |
Okay interesting experience but didn't work. Whatever. I live with that. |
15:56 |
sofar |
can't drop sand into it? |
15:57 |
Silizium |
Tried gravel because i had it lying around. |
15:57 |
sofar |
does it float on top of the water? |
15:57 |
Silizium |
Drop from 2m above |
15:57 |
Silizium |
No. Falling through |
15:57 |
VanessaE |
good. |
15:57 |
VanessaE |
now drop more. |
15:57 |
sofar |
how deep is the water? |
15:57 |
VanessaE |
pile it up until the water's consumed. |
15:57 |
Silizium |
Well it is falling from the platform. |
15:58 |
Silizium |
Oh okay, that's hm |
15:58 |
Silizium |
ok |
15:58 |
sofar |
maybe a screenshot would help |
15:58 |
VanessaE |
no need |
15:58 |
sofar |
if the water is 2+ deep, drop more? |
15:58 |
VanessaE |
I know what he's dealing with :) |
15:58 |
sofar |
we assumed it was just 1 deep |
15:58 |
sfan5 |
the water source extends into the "void" so anything you drop will fall endlessly? |
15:59 |
sofar |
is flowing water not buildable_to either? |
15:59 |
sofar |
last resort: TNT it away |
15:59 |
sofar |
(YMMV) |
15:59 |
Silizium |
I already solved that one mostly. I used the lava stream to more or less create a bottom |
15:59 |
VanessaE |
nope, and no TNT either btw |
16:00 |
Silizium |
I guided it by creating basalt and that other stuff. |
16:00 |
VanessaE |
sfan5: in skyblock, the bottom of the world is a layer of default cloud some 20m below the island |
16:00 |
Silizium |
Was quite creative so far. I actually stopped trying to play the game, the game IS getting rid of the water. |
16:01 |
Silizium |
Yeah, I have iced lava down there and died when I climed down to it. Haha |

16:02 |

trying to host a local server for first time, just want to connect a couple of devices into a world, do version numbers of each need to match exactly, or just first digit after the zero ? |
23:40 |
scr267 |
How do you mean: devices? |
23:41 |
scr267 |
like clients you mean? |
23:41 |
flyinggarlic |
oh, maybe host world on windows 10 desktop, access on an android device or 2 |
23:41 |
flyinggarlic |
yes sorry clients |
23:41 |
flyinggarlic |
not a noob here, just clueless :) |
23:42 |
scr267 |
5.0 is not backwards compatible with 0.4.x so you wouldn't be able to mix and match those |
23:42 |
flyinggarlic |
4.16 w 1.17 is ok then? |
23:42 |
scr267 |
but 0.4.16, 0.4.17 work fairly well together from what I remember |
23:42 |
scr267 |
If you need immediate android: 0.4.17 |
23:43 |
scr267 |
but I believe there is a 5.0 android port coming soon. |
23:43 |
flyinggarlic |
ok, so how do i find my "server" on the client? will it appear it the list with all the public servers even if mine is not marked for public ? |
23:43 |
|
kaeza joined #minetest |
23:44 |
scr267 |
You need to configure the minetest.conf file for 'server' purposes |
23:44 |
scr267 |
https://github.com/minetest/minetest/blob/master/minetest.conf.example |
23:44 |
scr267 |
If you want it to appear in the list: server_announce = true |
23:44 |
scr267 |
You'll find all the config settings in that minetest.conf.example file along with a description. |
23:45 |
flyinggarlic |
I played that other mineGame a lot, never paid attention to minetest, now i want to play with my child and i dont like how mineC is all about, "spend more $, you need all this other new cool stuff .. |
23:45 |
p_gimeno |
the way of connecting varies a lot depending on how your network is configured |
23:46 |
flyinggarlic |
i just want to connect from my local network btw |
23:46 |
scr267 |
So make sure your router/firewall is closed off nicely :) |
23:46 |
p_gimeno |
if your phone is connecting to a wifi access point in your local network, then the phone will just need the IP of the local computer |
23:46 |
scr267 |
and set server_announce = false |
23:47 |
p_gimeno |
er, well, android device, phone or otherwise |
23:47 |
scr267 |
p_gimeno: Sorry to have interrupted you :-D |
23:47 |
p_gimeno |
no worries scr267, that's IRC :) |
23:47 |
scr267 |
haha yea :) |
23:48 |
flyinggarlic |
so the local ip#? not my WAN IP ? |
23:48 |
scr267 |
local IP is correct |
23:48 |
flyinggarlic |
ok great thanks to all!!! |
23:49 |
p_gimeno |
again, assuming your wifi access point connects to the local lan and not e.g. to the internet directly |
23:49 |
scr267 |
Also, if you are hosting on Windows 10 you may need to tell it to allow incoming udp requests on whichever port your minetest server is configured |
23:49 |
scr267 |
I think windows will ask you automatically - but its been a while. |
23:49 |
scr267 |
If you know how to configure your windows firewall, I would try to set it to allow only local IPs to connect. |
23:51 |
flyinggarlic |
if i check public but i dont forward ports on my router, than it should show up in server list but still not be easily accesible from internet ? |
23:51 |
scr267 |
That's correct, but this case there's no reason to have it listed publicly :) |
23:52 |
p_gimeno |
^ indeed, you'd just frustrate people who see a server and want to try it :) |
23:53 |
flyinggarlic |
oh I see, I didnt realize it would show up in other peoples list outside my network, thanks for that warning! |
23:54 |
flyinggarlic |
so if i dont want it to show up to the general internet, i need to keep public unchecked and the only way for my devices to connect is by local ip#? |
23:55 |
p_gimeno |
the option is called "Announce server", by the way |
23:55 |
p_gimeno |
right, don't announce it |
23:55 |
flyinggarlic |
ok, in the minetest screen there is an option labeled "public" |
23:56 |
flyinggarlic |
would be nice to have an easier dumb folk way to connect to a local server |
23:56 |
p_gimeno |
uh, in 0.4.17? |
23:57 |
flyinggarlic |
i didnt see a download for 4.17 listed so i downloaded 4.12 |
23:57 |
flyinggarlic |
as in here: http://doku.minetest.net/old_releases |
23:58 |
p_gimeno |
uh, that's FAR too old... the page says it all |
23:58 |
p_gimeno |
https://www.minetest.net/downloads/ |
23:58 |
flyinggarlic |
ah ... |
23:58 |
p_gimeno |
I don't think you're going to find a client able to connect to a 0.4.12 server |
23:59 |
flyinggarlic |
but im looking for the most recent windows 10 version that the most recent android version can connect with |
23:59 |
flyinggarlic |
also, is there any plans to give android version some love, would be REALLY nice to have controller support. |
23:59 |
p_gimeno |
0.4.17 should be fine, it's on the google playstore |
