Might disagree oiaohm. US is... Wild West in some ways. London police don't carry guns and when a criminal is caught he's asked to come along... so they say. In US a cop grabs a bad guy who fights back, clubs him silly, and gets shot by uninvolved bystander. The perp urinates in court and the judge dismisses because nobody's sure. |

Xiong: UK police to carry Expandable baton. So they believe in clubbing person ahead of using gun. |
00:44 |
Xiong |
Ah well. |
00:44 |
oiaohm |
Xiong: not having gun means UK police will normally work out how to get closer and club first ask question latter. |

I had a friend like OC. Nice guy basically, we shared interests. But he had an axe to grind... family... and he nuked and paved... with consequences. I had to drop him; utterly unable to move him. |
00:47 |
Xiong |
Next you are I will hear, he'll dunno... crash an ultralight into the county clerk's office as revenge for misfiling His Case. |
00:49 |
oiaohm |
There is a lot of false idea about UK police that they ask you to come along. Its a lot simpler to hand cuff a person who is out cold because you club them. |
00:49 |
Xiong |
oiaohm My point is, game not worth candle. We don't seem to have a... nutcase circuit breaker... here. A nutjob can cost you much over time. |
00:50 |
Xiong |
Dog! |
00:50 |
oiaohm |
there is a problem yes nutjobs are nutjobs and just because you use a gun on them does not mean it will kill them or stop them. |
00:50 |
oiaohm |
problem with gun is that it can have a little range than you wished for. |
00:51 |
oiaohm |
UK is fairly high density a stray round like likely to find someone who was doing nothing wrong. |
00:52 |
oiaohm |
Some places using guns are primary for police make absolutely no sense. |
00:52 |
oiaohm |
sorrya little more range than you wished for. |
00:55 |

it scary how often you get people who are kind of nutjobs at attempting to ruin everything in minetest and minecraft. |

Oregen is weirdstuff. I was you, I'd start with technic's. That does work... although I think it's a bit off with v6 chromium. |

The mod involves future tech. You create fission, and fusion reactors as well as some other crazy stuff y'all have to wait for. |

SanskritFritz joined #minetest |

So you need helium3 ore?? |
08:06 |
Cyber |
Should I try the other versions of mapgen and see if my ores show up? I set sulfur to spawn like coal so I'd be able to tell if it was actually working |
08:12 |
majochup |
nice :D |
08:12 |
Xiong |
Try everything. But... first try technic. |
08:14 |
Xiong |
If you can get technic oregen working by itself then you can hack from there. The advantage is, if it stops working, you will know exactly what you did to cause it. |
08:17 |
Xiong |
I often use such a strat in any established project, twiddling what I see, adding conservatively, and chopping away what I don't want. At best thus means moving from ok to ok... instead of writing a bunch of stuff outta my head that *should* work but doesn't. |
08:21 |
Cyber |
Also is there more documention on formspec? Like the UIs for blocks. I can't find a whole lot of info. I basically am just modifing the furnace UI as best as possible. |
08:28 |
Xiong |
Oh, you noticed the scanty docs? There'd be a peerage for the worker who documented this project. But only the few know what it does |
08:30 |
Xiong |
Try hacking around UI. That mod does about everything that can be done with a formspec. Also check pipeworks for more formspec goodness... autocrafter and sorting tubes. |
08:33 |
Xiong |
Particular elegance is had with ghost items. Place a real item into a slot and nothing is taken... but the ghost appears. Removing the ghost poofs it. |

Back when docs came on paper I sorted most programming books into two kinds: references and cookbooks. I read both... inhaled them... but I found particular value in cookbooks... especially when the author was bold enough to print real working code. |
09:16 |
Cyber |
Those docs don't say enough to create an acutally good mod. |

Well! https://github.com/joe7575/techpack/wiki |
10:31 |
Xiong |
This looks promising. Scales down pipeworks/mesecons/technic into a more or less sane package. |
10:31 |
Xiong |
To clarify... not a subset of pmt but a reinvention. |
10:33 |
Xiong |
Definitely cut down. There's a quarry; its max is 5x5x25. No electrical *power* per se |
10:34 |
Xiong |
There's light-up nodes but that's just a signal. The machines run on biofuel processed from tree leaves. |
10:37 |
Xiong |
Offhand I'd say the whole mod(pack?) defines only around 5% as many nodes as the pmt team. But covers... dunno, 85% of the use cases. |
10:42 |
Xiong |
I've often said the technic quarry has no useful function; to get it running well.you need a reactor and... presumably... you had to acquire resources for that by other means. So the ultimate goal of the pmt pyramid... racks of machines, sorted storage arrays, giant labs to house it... is to build a setup massive enough to build it. Kinda empty. Now I wonder why I'm doing it again. |
10:44 |
Xiong |
"Joe" says TechPack is intended to put the erection of TechPack within reasonable reach... so you can go build stuff. Like... houses... dunno art. Which makes an odd kind of sense. |
10:46 |
Xiong |

20:57 |
SFalcon |
Oh, I can access the server via the IP without hosting the game, maybe no super-bad errors actually came about. |

21:14 |
SFalcon |
Hah, ok |
21:14 |
SFalcon |
My connection keeps getting timed out, like, a lot |
21:14 |
SFalcon |
And everything is super laggy, is that just my internet's problem? |
21:15 |
SFalcon |
Typically, this wouldn't be happening... |
