I need one of those massive mining rigs |

I see the blade for it in the technic inventory |

blaise |
that takes too long |
01:21 |

that's what mining lasers and drills are foor |

sameyepatch[m] |
ah then technic is indeed the answer |
01:24 |
sameyepatch[m] |
have any of you found underground structures that seem already mined by someone? |
01:24 |
blaise |
go check out the subway level on midnightsystems.net:30000 |
01:24 |
blaise |
sameyepatch[m]: of course |
01:24 |
blaise |
ruins and dungeons and all kinds of stuff |
01:25 |

yeah that somehow creeps me up |
01:25 |

mine tunnels with wood reinforcement to prevent cave ins and such |
01:25 |

even though they were randomly generated |
01:25 |

on that server I mentioned there is an elevator to the right as you enter the building next to the spawn area |
01:26 |

I admin that server, so if there is anything you need just ask |

there's a store upstairs in the welcome center |

i haven't worked out all the perms yet with areas protect, but I'm getting there |

reading up on it now |
01:32 |

other servers have it where players can set area protect on their property to prevent griefers |

but I don't want the players to have areas admin privlege |

01:38 |

anything important I put in the safe at the shop inside |

01:40 |
blaise |
Sokomine: I'm kind of cought up building a subway system for my server, what kind of ships are we talking about? |
01:40 |
blaise |
modern navy vessels? wooden mast? |
01:41 |

01:41 |

mostly rather small wooden ships. i want to spawn them on the map from time to time as an extension to mg_villages |
01:41 |

Sokomine: awsome, will do |
01:41 |
sameyepatch[m] |

seriously, |

VanessaE |
BakerPrime and I played hell upgrading my server's public HV network to overhead lines |
01:57 |
VanessaE |
when people run them underground, they have a tendency to meander and wind around stuff, making them very hard to trace out over long distances. |

in the server I set a simple guideline: 20m tall (relative to the neighboring road) poles made of streets steel support if available, otherwise technic windmill supports I guess will do, set in concrete, with a large cable clip on top |
02:00 |
VanessaE |
keeps them totally out of the way, and makes them seem like they're a huge distance above, so it doesn't feel crowded or cluttered. |
02:00 |
BakerPrime |
Gah, I got a ping and now I need to read the whole convo to see what's up.... I'm to curious.... |
02:00 |
BakerPrime |
:P |
02:01 |
VanessaE |
that's for long-distance. for neighborhood level, steel fenceposts in concrete, 10m tall, small cable clip on top. |
02:01 |
VanessaE |
hi BakerPrime .. ping :)_ |
02:01 |

Hello VanessaE |

: ) |
02:01 |
blaise |
hehe |
02:02 |
blaise |
VanessaE: I'll keep that in mind |
02:03 |
VanessaE |
oh and for a "customer" that needs to tap into the grid for a small LV or HV load, we put a pole with a supply converter on it, run neighborhood-level poles and cables as needed. |
02:03 |
VanessaE |
or BakerPrime likes to use ... |
02:03 |
VanessaE |
what do you call them? |
02:03 |
BakerPrime |
Padmount transformers. |
02:03 |
VanessaE |
yeah |
02:04 |
BakerPrime |
They provide 36,000EU, and require very little space. |
02:04 |
VanessaE |
BakerPrime: we should publish a standard :) |
02:04 |
VanessaE |
tell every technic-using server owner they ought to bring their worlds up to code ;) |
02:05 |
BakerPrime |
Switching station, 4 transformers, all the cable needed except the connections, all in a green box that fits on a 4x6 pad. Or upgrade to a 3p (LV/MV/HV) with a 7x5 pad. |
02:05 |
BakerPrime |

02:06 |

02:07 |
VanessaE |
besides, what do we do, fine a server owner some thousands of MG per violation? :) |
02:07 |

note to self: update the servers' screenshots for the forum topics. |
02:09 |
BakerPrime |
Here's the single-phase version: http://pasteall.org/pic/index.php?id=122994 |
02:10 |
VanessaE |
and across the road from that ^ you can see one of the long-run HV towers. |
02:10 |
VanessaE |
or part of it anyway |
02:10 |
BakerPrime |
Yeah. |
02:10 |
VanessaE |
BakerPrime: btw, |
02:11 |
VanessaE |
you might want to use plastic boxes instead of wool. it takes more dye for now, but the texture is smoother. |
02:11 |
BakerPrime |
That screenshot is taken at my Mall, which I'm currently working on the grid near there, so there is a few unfinished projects kicking around. |
02:11 |
BakerPrime |
VanessaE: Can I color plastic boxes? |
02:11 |
VanessaE |
yes. |
02:11 |
BakerPrime |
Cut plastic boxes |
02:11 |
VanessaE |
wait.. |
02:11 |
VanessaE |
I'm wrong. |
02:12 |
BakerPrime |
I didn't think I could. Sadly. |
02:12 |
VanessaE |
you can cut them but cheapie never implemented coloring the cut pieces. |
02:12 |
BakerPrime |
If I could, I would have used them a long time ago.... wool has a low burn rate. |
02:12 |
BakerPrime |
Hence, if a wool transformer leaked IRL it would make a nice boom. |
02:13 |
VanessaE |
I could swear on a stack of holy books that there was at least one almost-metal-looking block that could be used. |
02:13 |

try stone tiles. |

BakerPrime |
VanessaE: I wish there was something better, Dark green wool cannot be crafted, so I need to beg a certain user to get some.... |
02:14 |
VanessaE |
blaise: in that pic you can see neighborhood-level HV runs, with stylized poles to match the neighborhood |
02:15 |
blaise |
nice |
02:15 |
VanessaE |
BakerPrime: yeah, that dark green is a combo of a bug in unified dyes and in minetest_game. |
02:16 |
BakerPrime |
VanessaE: Yeah, speaking of that I thought maybe we could remove the lines through the center of Woodgarden, looks kindah wrong for the period he was going for I think. Maybe we can run a line in from South Center Road to my former house? |
02:17 |
BakerPrime |
Just a thought. |
02:17 |
VanessaE |
woodgarden? is that what wd97 calls it? |
02:17 |
BakerPrime |
Yup |
02:17 |
VanessaE |
well... |
02:17 |
blaise |
hrmm |
02:17 |
VanessaE |
I dunno |
02:18 |
BakerPrime |
Maybe. Not tonight, but we can look into it maybe. |
02:18 |
blaise |
I wonder about some 12 phase |
02:18 |
VanessaE |
but, |
02:18 |
VanessaE |
the reason I ran HV service into the area is that one of his buildings actually uses it |
02:20 |
VanessaE |
so I figure it's more like "Old that survives in a modern world" |
02:20 |
BakerPrime |
VanessaE: I know, but I was thinking maybe we could run it in from the backside of the building, and limit the "modern exposure" |
02:20 |
BakerPrime |
Yeah |
02:20 |
BakerPrime |
I see what you were going for now. |
02:20 |
VanessaE |
hm, yeah I suppose we could. |
02:21 |
BakerPrime |
Anyway, it won't be tonight, I gotta be up early tomorrow. |
02:21 |
VanessaE |
right |
02:21 |
VanessaE |
where did wd97 disappear to anyway? |
02:21 |
BakerPrime |
No idea. |
02:21 |
BakerPrime |
He sortah just comes and goes, I think. |
02:22 |
VanessaE |
I suppose so |
02:23 |
BakerPrime |
Anyway, I will be AFK from here on out, I should be back tomorrow night sometime. maybe 14-18 hours from now. |

Where is her house on your server, anyway? |
13:17 |
BakerPrime |
Also, I'm looking into replacing the UHV line heading out to Builder123's place and Est's place. |
13:17 |
BakerPrime |
Lets put it this way, Zuggeret is the halfway mark. O.o |
13:19 |
BakerPrime |
VanessaE: Also, I'm removing the line that runs down that underground road that runs from the Harbor area to cheapie-city. |
13:19 |

It's un-used. |
13:20 |

13:25 |

I didn't know there was another leg out past the Ziggurat. |

That's cool. We did a limited version of a HV distribution network on TPS-Extreme for a few players. It was interesting for the people doing it but the server went down before we could expand it. Is there a l lot of interest in that from players? |
15:15 |
Sokomine |
billre: sure, why not. most players may love to get power supply for free. in crowded areas and in houses it's not always easy to include a local small technic network |
15:16 |
Sokomine |
back then huge networks where not really possible. technic has grown over time so that it can handle such networks now |
15:22 |
Billre |
We did it about a year ago. We were going to make a powered village where players could chose their home and they'd already have power and a couple machines but every project of a community housing that I've seen on other servers never seems to work. Everyone wants to build their own base. So what do you do ... provide connections at the street? :D |

to discuss it is like style... I do appreciate critics, but each language sets different style rules/consensus and its hard to keep with each one of them. |
21:03 |
pgimeno |
tabs default to 8 spaces everywhere - far too much for normal indentation. They make code almost unreadable out of the editors. Some people use different tab sizes and collaborating on the same project results in screwing alignment. Sometimes the coding guidelines don't specify the default tab size (like in the Lua style guide), leading to arbitrary rules about line length. |

t20kdc: I personally prefer 2-space indentation myself |

I am not very vehement about it, I'm ok with tabs or 4 spaces too, I prefer them because they play better with split editors, even in the era of 16:9 displays |

(however, please don't default tab display to 8 spaces, that's just cruel :D) |

basically, there is a mod called economy, which adds a player-vending machine, a server-vending machine and bank atm. Ive made that mod talk to dogecoin |
22:25 |
dogetest |
so u could sell blocks/itens to a vending in exchange of doges and then buy blocks/itens on those same machines, on player-vending machines or tranfering with bank atm |
