Say.. I found weird stuff with the networking of Minetest.. may I ask why a client would send its protocol ID (0x4f457403) first in a packet? What is that packet? |

I know Minetest has a way to limit how many users can be on your server. But, is there a way to manage new user registration? |
17:27 |
Lymkwi_ |
The network exchange is a tad different, and yes there is a function to handle new players joining in, in the API |
17:28 |
AntumDeluge |
I run a local server for my kids & they have friends whom I want to let play. But, I do not want just anybody to be able to connect to my server. I want to be able to manage the allowed users. |
17:28 |
sfan5 |
pretty sure there's mods that implement whitelists |
17:28 |
Lymkwi_ |
You should be able to do that with a firewall though |
17:28 |
Lymkwi_ |
Oh yeah whitelists work too |
17:28 |
AntumDeluge |
Ooh, whitelist mod sounds good. |
17:28 |
AntumDeluge |
I'll search for that. |

18:03 |
jas_ |
good, thanks. someone scared me on minetest it was funny, and i forgot i was recording a video. anyway how are you? |
18:04 |
swift110 |
jas_, lol I am great |
18:05 |
swift110 |
how long have you been playing minetest? |
18:05 |
jas_ |
glad to hear |
18:05 |
jas_ |
oh let me think, a few years anyway. maybe three |
18:05 |
jas_ |
you? |
18:19 |
swift110 |
nice jas_ I heard of minetest maybe a year or two ago |
18:19 |
swift110 |
But my attention span makes it hard to get into it really |
18:19 |
swift110 |
I have it on all of my machines though |
18:19 |
swift110 |
Now if it was on Macosx I would likely play it a lot |
18:19 |
swift110 |
lol |
18:20 |
swift110 |
But that will never happen |
18:20 |
swift110 |
I would need a nice android tablet for that |
18:20 |
jas_ |
i found it in debian repo. didn't think much of it at first, or games like this in general (i used to play quake live 12+ hours a day) but now i can easilly spend all day digging blocks here HA |
18:20 |
swift110 |
oh goodness |
18:20 |
jas_ |
clunk, clunk, clunk. but actually the fun for me is the modding, and the networking. |
18:21 |
jas_ |
now days, the movement is really sweet so in-game i love to run around and jump off stuff. it's a really fun game to get into, because i love first person, and it's not a shooter, and you can build and be creative inside the map. lovely right? |
18:22 |
jas_ |
i'm wondering how these games will translate to VR someday but i haven't tried it myself. |
18:26 |
swift110 |
jas_, I have seen a video of someone using minecraft in a 3d world. I would like to se that for minetest |
18:26 |
jas_ |
i _believe_ minetest can do it too, or someone had a PR that may have been merged. i never tried any VR device before tho. looking forward to it, but who can replace a keyboard and a mouse? |
18:27 |
jas_ |
i play minetest on android sometimes, and it's not so bad if you plug a keyboard and mouse into it, i figure. |
18:27 |
jas_ |
but otherwise, on my phone at least, if i touch the arrow directionals and try to steer at the same time, for example, it will strafe me right because of the combination of touches. |
