Alright. I can't find anything specific that includes that error, but I would reccomend visiting this page (if you haven't already) http://www.minetest.net/downloads/ press ctrl-f and type freebsd for more instructions on that page. |

You might be able to just use 0.4.15 by using the command "pkg install minetest minetest_game" |

Hi |
08:52 |
Out`Of`Control |
What could cause my server disappear from public server list? |
08:58 |
red-001 |
Out`Of`Control, is it still online? |
09:05 |
Out`Of`Control |
red-001: now it appear again, but it was gone, i wonder why |
09:06 |
red-001 |
maybe you lost connection to the serverlist |
09:06 |
red-001 |
the server pings the server list every few minutes iirc to let it know its still online |
09:09 |
Out`Of`Control |
red-001: there are players on server so ping should be fine |
09:10 |
red-001 |
thats not the issue |
09:11 |
red-001 |
the connection between your server and the server list is the issue |
09:11 |
red-001 |
you should see something about "servers.minetest.net" in the logs |

hello |
13:03 |
Pannutti |
how do i uninstall a compiled minetest? |
13:03 |
Pannutti |
(linux mint) |
13:04 |
sfan5 |
how did you install it? |
13:04 |
Pannutti |
as i said, compiled from sources |
13:04 |
sfan5 |
so sudo make install? |
13:04 |
Pannutti |
yes |
13:05 |
sfan5 |
you need to find install_manifest.txt and then you can run xargs rm <install_manifest.txt |
13:06 |
Pannutti |
what is xargs? |
13:07 |
Calinou |
that'd require sudo in most cases, sfan5 |
13:07 |

unless it was installed to a non-system-wide location |

13:26 |
Out`Of`Control |
what is wrong with runinplace |
13:26 |
Calinou |
Out`Of`Control: it's not a matter of run-in-place or not, actually |
13:27 |
Calinou |
you can make a non-run-in-place build and install it in an arbitrary folder in your /home, using eg. -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX="~/minetest-build" |
13:27 |
Calinou |
"make install", in this case, can be used without sudo |
13:27 |
Calinou |
run-in-place is nice for portable builds, but it's a mess for non-portable ones :) |
13:28 |
Out`Of`Control |
i see |

do players have metadata and can you add to that? |
14:20 |
ThomasMonroe |
like, can you add a variable "experience" and how would you do that if you can? |
14:23 |
calcul0n |
not sure, but i don't think players have metadata |
14:23 |
mmuller |
ThomasMonroe: the only way that I found to do this was to store information, qualified by player name, in the world's filesystem. |
14:24 |
calcul0n |
i generally create a table with player name as key and some table containing all the datas as value |
14:24 |
calcul0n |
then store that in a file |
14:25 |
ThomasMonroe |
hmm |
14:25 |
mmuller |
calcul0n: that works, though if you have a lot of players that's going to be a very big file |
14:25 |
ThomasMonroe |
ok so heres what im trying to do, |
14:25 |
calcul0n |
yes, if you have a lot of datas you can also create one file per player |
14:25 |
ThomasMonroe |
i want the players to gain experience based on what nodes they dig and place |
14:28 |
ThomasMonroe |
and as they gain exp they can gain acess to better tools |
14:29 |
ThomasMonroe |
how would i do something like that? |
14:30 |
calcul0n |
hmm, that looks complicated :) |
14:30 |
calcul0n |
you'll have to forbid some craft recipes, i don't see how to do that |
14:31 |
calcul0n |
unless you get the tools by some other way |
14:31 |
ThomasMonroe |
cant i override on_dig and check to see what tools is doing the digging? |
14:33 |
calcul0n |
yes, you should use minetest.register_on_dignode for that i think |
14:33 |
calcul0n |
then find the wielded item on the digger |
14:35 |
ThomasMonroe |
ok |

their source code is a mess |

thats why we need server side basic anticheat |

meh, even non-hacked clients can cheat now with CSM. the first x-ray mod already exists |
22:19 |
red-001 |
it's a pretty shitty x-ray mod tbh |
22:19 |
Out`Of`Control |
red-001: not sure about limits, but they can fly for sure |
22:19 |
red-001 |
I mean you have to read of co-ords |
22:19 |
red-001 |
and then mine the blocks yourself |
22:20 |
red-001 |
plus x-ray was already mostly possible if you disabled camera updates |
22:20 |
red-001 |
you could see all the caves |
22:21 |

and then there is the transparent texture exploit |

why would you use hacks? game gets really boring that way |
22:21 |
red-001 |
who knows |
22:22 |
red-001 |
maybe somehow feeling better then other players, but I doubt shitty x-ray does that |
22:23 |
red-001 |
kinda surprised we don't have more fly/fast/noclip hackers |
22:23 |

they have to change literally a single line of code in a header file |

Out`Of`Control, yes |
23:04 |
Out`Of`Control |
how? |
23:06 |
red-001 |
you could either use strict protocol checking or write a mod that checks the client has at least your target protocol version |
23:08 |
red-001 |
why do you want to block old clients? |
23:08 |
Out`Of`Control |
thanks |

huh maybe you could only run it on new users |

http://ipduh.com/ip/tor-exit/ |
23:10 |

well in that case wouldn't it make more sense to figure out what they are using and block that? |

it seems the version string of minehacker is "0.4.14-dev-a9b1585-dirty" |

23:14 |
red-001 |
Out`Of`Control, are you able to compile a modified version of minetest? |
23:15 |
Out`Of`Control |
red-001: why not |
23:15 |
red-001 |
it change needed to be able to check the version string from lua is fairly simple |
23:17 |
red-001 |
move https://github.com/minetest/minetest/blob/master/src/script/lua_api/l_server.cpp#L256 to before the "#ifndef NDEBUG" |
23:18 |
red-001 |
so the whole function should look something like this https://pastebin.com/PLs5NaDK |

I don't think I got an answer on this, but is there a way to disable damage from torches? |
23:21 |
red-001 |
anyway if they are not using the version I acquired there is still a decent chance their commit id could be used to id them |
23:22 |
red-001 |
I mean they didn't remove the annoying message about who made the client so I don't think they modified it |

well I can't really recommend anything other then try and ban them by checking thier version string and try and figure out a pattern for their ips so you can ban them all |
