for some reason I can't open doors on the just test server. :/ |
03:46 |
epoch |
is there a command to see which version of minetest a server is running? |
03:46 |
VanessaE |
you probably just lack interact? |
03:46 |
VanessaE |
/status should tell you the version |
03:47 |
OldCoder |
To open doors, need interact. I use an extra priv named build to separate this out. |
03:47 |
epoch |
doing /privs shows I have interact and shout. |
03:47 |
OldCoder |
Hm |
03:47 |

That server does not use build priv, does it? |
03:47 |
OldCoder |
destt, absolutely |
03:47 |

If you can't find one, I'll make one |
03:47 |

would not having build prevent me from building stuff? |

Do a /privs on some other player |

PureTryOut[m], well, you can't right-click tools |
11:29 |
PureTryOut[m] |
I'm not sure why not? |
11:29 |
kaeza |
you can right-click with them |
11:30 |
PureTryOut[m] |
sure, but why can't I right-click the tool itself? I don't want to check certain nodes on rightclick, I want to check what node I pointed at while holding the tool and rightclicking |
11:31 |
kaeza |
I recall there was a callback similar to on_use, but for right clicks |
11:32 |
PureTryOut[m] |
for example I have multiple types of tools doing something while right clicking dirt, all in different mods. if I add the `on_rightclick` callback to a tool, it overrides all others. I have to make some kind of contraption with saving all previous callbacks, and calling them in this new callback, it's quite annoying |
11:32 |
kaeza |
PureTryOut[m], on_rightclick is called on the placed node, not on the tool used |
11:33 |
|
rubenwardy joined #minetest |

er, on the node already in the world I mean |

but I want on_rightclick for the tool used as well |
11:33 |
PureTryOut[m] |
I guess you guys use `on_use` for that, but that's wrong imo as left-click is already used for breaking the block. imo a nodes `on_rightclick` has the highest priority, and then the `on_rightclick` of a tool/item. |
11:34 |
PureTryOut[m] |
ooh I made a typo: "if I add the `on_rightclick` callback to a ~~tool~~ node" |
11:34 |
PureTryOut[m] |

11:37 |
kaeza |
on whatever you have in hand |
11:37 |
PureTryOut[m] |
for example the hoes from farming. to till the dirt, it uses leftclick. however I would like to have such an action for my own mods on the rightclick instead. if you have multiple tools doing something on the same block, it gets really annoying and tedious |

I wish there was a way to tell players with low-end phones that their device is simply not powerful enough to play on my server...the only workaround I see would be checking the time between join/leave and if it's less than 60 secs or so store a var that will display an error message next time the player tries to connect telling what the problem is/which settings to reduce to make playing on the server possible |

I'd probably have to download it myself then to check the menu but...I'm usually against installing games with ads |
19:32 |
IhrFussel |
Since (on Android at least) devs can even display those as push notifications and you never know which app does that |
19:38 |
IhrFussel |
Welp I installed it...and of course after 10 secs "Loading reccomendations for you..." ... I am really not sure why people prefer that app but oh well...I'm trying to connect to my server now with the default settings (since there are indeed NO game settings whatsoever) |

Jordach, I wonder...do you think it would be very complicated to display those in the ingame chat? I guess one problem could be that PCs cannot display the same emojis as phones |
19:57 |

windows 10 has emoji support by default |
19:57 |
Jordach |
chrome provides its own set |

Yes but it would be weird (IMO) if the emojis don't look (nearly) identical across all computers/devices |

so far, :suspect: looks the same on all platforms (on supported sites), so I'm good :P |

what do you mean, pls explain further |

you want two parts of the same animation playing at once? |

Guys this error is REALLY weird...usually when the server disconnects you cause of an internal error it's one caused by a mod or builtin ... but my error is not in debug.txt the last lines are "2017-04-24 22:44:12: ACTION[Server]: [name] leaves game. List of players:" |
20:49 |
IhrFussel |
So either this is a very obscure bug or the devs included non-mod/builtin errors in the "internal error" message |
20:51 |
juli |
i have seen this error too on mars server |
20:52 |
juli |
and there we think the reason is that the server crashed for to much cpu usage or so |
20:53 |
IhrFussel |
juli, did you check dmesg if on Linux? It seems that my error at least was triggered by a segfault |
20:54 |
juli |
oh |
20:54 |
juli |
u can check with gdb |
20:54 |
juli |
u know how to use gnu-debug? |
20:54 |
IhrFussel |
But segfaults NEVER triggered an "internal error" message before I updated, so I'm guessing someone made it so segfaults now do trigger internal errors |
20:55 |
juli |
hmm idk |
20:55 |
juli |
i'am not admin at the marsserver |
20:56 |
juli |
i'am only highly privileged and i created much things ther |
20:56 |
juli |
so i can read debug.txt |
20:56 |
IhrFussel |
juli, unfortunately you need to compile a special debug build for that which I don't want to do right now |
20:56 |
juli |
for gdb u mean? |
20:57 |
juli |
for me this worked also without |
20:57 |
IhrFussel |
The devs say regular server builds won't give you enough info to debug segfaults |
20:58 |
juli |
hmm maybe not to debug |
20:58 |
juli |
but to check wheather its an true sgfault |
20:59 |
IhrFussel |
juli, [9619990.273105] Server[31953]: segfault at 150 ip 0000000000749302 sp 00007f4a24e7e2a0 error 4 in minetestserver[400000+48b000] |

then it would be simple to test |
21:00 |
IhrFussel |
Yes but the problem is I have no clue how to reproduce it..it happened randomly |
21:00 |
juli |
yes i mean normaly gdb should say where the error occours ... |
21:01 |
ThomasMonroe |
Nyarg, all you need to do is move the timeline |

ah u mean u can't raise the error another time? |

i don't wanted to say so |

21:05 |
IhrFussel |
sofar, do you happen to know the addr2line options I need to get the function name? |
21:06 |

getting a stripped backtrace can be hugely useful already to find the error |

addr2line? heh I've not used that in like 10 years |
21:06 |
sofar |
forgot it existed, even |
21:06 |

I want to check if it's the exact same function that caused the segfaults before I updated |

even without debug info, gdb will show you the place it crashed |

I don't need gdb for that..I found it it's sudo addr2line -fpC -e /path/to/minetestserver_bin [address after ip in dmesg] and it is in fact the same function: Server::SendMovePlayer(unsigned short) bei ??:? |

is this function so long? |
21:11 |

This bug existed for many months now although I seem to be the only one having this segfault problem (I asked many other server owners and it never happened to them) |
21:13 |
juli |
here is the function: |
21:13 |
juli |
void Server::SendMovePlayer(u16 peer_id) |
21:13 |
juli |
{ |
21:13 |
juli |

21:13 |

pkt << sao->getBasePosition() << sao->getPitch() << sao->getYaw(); |
21:13 |
juli |
{ |
21:13 |
juli |
v3f pos = sao->getBasePosition(); |
21:13 |

You should probably use pastebin.com for that xP |
21:13 |
juli |
true sorry |
21:14 |
IhrFussel |
Yes and it's called every server step so the error margin is very high |
21:14 |
juli |
yes but i wonder, because a segfault here should make minetest call the assert |
21:15 |
juli |
and an assert would be written to debug.txt i think |
21:16 |
IhrFussel |
Probably if you add --info and --verbose before running minetestserver |
