big water cities/big-spawns are worst |

Would rendering be such an issue if more of it were pushed off to the video card to handle? |

if it meets certain criteria - it is hidden and will not be rendered |

Anyone know the implications of increasing the option "max_objects_per_block" from its default value of 49 (IIRC)? I run a small server for my family, and someone's putting too many horses in one mapblock, and the server's deleting them all. |

I'm considering increasing it for them, but I want to make sure there's no performance or such reasons not to change it first. |
02:38 |
DI3HARD139 |
Depends on the hardware the server is running on. I would bump it up if its a local server and see if the hardware can handle it. |
02:38 |
DI3HARD139 |
Thats generally only used for public servers where # of players can be excessive and eat bandwidth |

It's a 512MB DO droplet :) It's a small server. I'll likely increase it and see what happens, as you suggested. I just find it somewhat strange that the server's default behavior is to delete all objects in a block if you add one more than the limit. |
02:40 |

Thanks DI3HARD139 |
02:45 |
DI3HARD139 |
To be honest I have never had an issue with that. I would make sure to run /clearobjects once in awhile to clean up any invisible strays |
02:46 |
chainsaw10 |
Do you happen to know exactly what is considered an "object"? Is it just mobs, or are things like signs and flowers also considered objects? |
02:47 |
whitephoenix |
signs and flowers are nodes |
02:47 |
DI3HARD139 |
From what i've observed, The term "Object" is refering to dynamic objects. So ones that can move on their own |
02:47 |
DI3HARD139 |
Mostly mobs or dropped nodes. Dropped nodes can inclide apples, torches, fences etc. |

just in case, mods like signs_lib do implement the visible text on signs as an "object" or "entity", so /clearobject does delete the visible text |

04:10 |
Taose |
...does this one have a command console? |
04:10 |
Taose |
For ghosting for instance? |
04:11 |
kaeza |
you can type 't' or '/' (small console) or F10 (full console) |
04:11 |
VanessaE |
not sure what you mean by ghosting, but you can hit F10 for the command console |
04:12 |
Taose |
hmm |
04:12 |
Taose |
not many options to choose from |
04:12 |
VanessaE |
mods can define their own commands also |
04:12 |

so there's not much really *needed* in a standard game |
04:12 |

also make sure you're using minetest_game, not "minimal". |

04:39 |

but that depends on mods you have instaled, some mushrooms grow only near lava.. |
04:40 |
Taose |
o.O |
04:41 |
Taose |
a torch is apparently too much to ask |
04:41 |
agaran |
for torch you need coal |
04:41 |
Taose |
figures |
04:41 |
agaran |
to dig coal you need wodden pickaxe. |
04:41 |
Taose |
I have a stone one now |
04:42 |
agaran |
then better, dig some coal, make furnace, you will need it anyway |
04:43 |
agaran |
and you need either to walk some, to find some cracks in surface where stone can be seen on side, and look for coal there, or just dig down, which usually is simpler, beware, there are sometimes big caves.. not always safe to land there.. |
04:44 |
agaran |
sometimes river bottom also is stone, showing coal spots too, depends on modset realy and mapgen settings |
04:46 |
Taose |
hmmm |
04:46 |
Taose |
For the moment, I have a torch |
04:47 |
agaran |
depends on mods, you can cook wood to make charcoal which works quite well for torches too.. |
04:47 |

but that requires furnace.. |

04:53 |

I like that the only think I can seem to cook is stone |
04:54 |
agaran |
Taose: Hmm, depends what you have, you can cook sand to glass too |
04:55 |
kaeza |
if you somehow get wheat, you can also make flour, and cook it to make bread |
04:55 |
agaran |
then you can craft things out of stone, like stone stairs etc |
04:55 |
Taose |
apparently not |
04:55 |

04:55 |

Taose, yes if there is water nearby.. within 3 nodes, otherwise it will not grow (and to move water around you need bucket, which usually need iron) |
05:03 |

do we have archemedes screws? |

nope, but I am sure that somebody -might- decide to make them.. |

its always a little funny to goto a "survival" server start in the middle of the city, and have to walk 2000 blocks before you can find somewhere relatively untouched. And probably half that to just find somewhere without protection. |

sfan5: The main thing I'd like to have in it, is the advanced chasing, which combines line of sight, pathfinding, and voxelmanip to pretty much force the player to fight with hostile mobs or get punched/blown up by them |
20:24 |
jordan4ibanez |
sfan5: Also the builder mobs https://github.com/jordan4ibanez/open_ai/wiki/Theorizing-About-Structure which are villagers that spawn in a group and start to build a village that gets bigger with more villagers as time goes on |

although your formatting's messed up |
21:35 |
rubenwardy |
you should either tab in, or use ``` to format code snippets which aren't part of a sentence |
21:35 |
jordan4ibanez |
How does it look for you? |
21:36 |
jordan4ibanez |
Can you grab a screen shot? |
21:37 |
sfan5 |
the example code is messed up |
21:37 |
sfan5 |
use ``` if you want to make a full code block and not just one line |

about builder mobs: "When the building is built, it should work as a mob spawner to spawn other mobs of the same type." What about of a spawning a mob of a specific type such as: house builder builds a house, house spawns a cook, cook makes a kitchen, house with kitch spawns a black smith, smith builds a forge... |
21:55 |

freelikegnu: Updated all those, thank you |
