Why hasn't anyone released MT to the Amazon store? |
00:55 |
emunandPC |
there is no need to |
00:56 |
emunandPC |
amazon's OS is based on Android |
00:56 |
emunandPC |
just install F-Droid on there and download Minetest |
00:57 |
garywhite |
True, but it would get more publicity... |
00:58 |
garywhite |
Plus if the community wanted to make some money, the Underground program could make quite a bit of money for the devs if the game gets popular |
00:58 |
emunandPC |
underground program? |

Hirato joined #minetest |

Basically, Amazon Underground is a program that devs can opt their apps into that pays them based on how much the app is used |
01:01 |
emunandPC |
do the devs know about this? |
01:01 |
garywhite |
Probably not yet. Why? |
01:03 |
emunandPC |
like you said, this could help the devs out |
01:05 |
garywhite |
nvm...You have to have in-app purchases to qualify :( |
01:05 |
emunandPC |
then let's just keep it as a normal app |
01:06 |
emunandPC |
people could just donate to the devs directly |
01:08 |
emunandPC |
they should add a bitcoin or litecoin address |

Hello - for some reason my server is not loading a certain couple of mods (most visibly, "mobs" and "zmobs") causing a cascade of non-loading mods. |
12:59 |
DuCake |
The reason for it however I cannot find - all mods are installed, all mods required are marked active in the world.mt and present in the mods folder, I checked the permissions on the folders and did chown -R the appropriate user (the same I am launching minetest as) but to no avail.... I ran it once with "--info --verbose" but that doesn't seem to tell me why the specific mods are not loading... |
12:59 |
DuCake |
Change that happened previous - I did a git pull on tenplus1/mobs_redo -- but it shows no conflicts and the minetest log reveals that it didn't even try to load that mod ? |

13:00 |
DuCake |
zmobs is a mod pack with a "zmobs" mod in it |
13:01 |
DuCake |
they haven't been a problem before for the 5 or szo months we've had this server up. .. |
13:02 |
DuCake |
and some mods request/require zmobs so .... OK I'll go edit them to remove zmobs dependency , though I doubt that's it - I would have otherwise expected a name conflict to register. In this case, the mods don't load at all (mobs:meat used to be registered, now not registering at all |

They said about adding mesecons to minetest_game, but I said that would cause a massive increase in lag and in resource usage, especially on lower-end systems |
18:14 |
twoelk |
in the end most list all the stuff that one would expect in a mc clone |
18:15 |
IhrFussel |
garywhite, I don't see how the devs can think it's fine that torches make cheating possible...have no air left underwater? Just place a torch and the water is gone |
18:15 |
twoelk |
that's not a bug, that is and always has been a feature |
18:16 |
IhrFussel |
Feature? It's a VERY weird behavior and most people would see it as bug I'm sure |
18:16 |
twoelk |
you use torches and papyrus (and slabs) to do stuff under water |
18:18 |
IhrFussel |
The devs could add other items for that stuff...items that actually remove water in a senseful way |
18:18 |
mootpoint |
i use torches to clear out underwater domes, well, before we got the scaffolding mod |
18:18 |
* twoelk |
awaits for spongebob to appear |
18:19 |

18:21 |
twoelk |
I find the wheat-flour-seeds complex or the iron-steel-bronze enigma more disturbing for my version of percieved reality in a videogame |
18:21 |
IhrFussel |
mootpoint, doesn't have to be a sponge, there are a lot of things that are made to remove/reduce water, but yeah the devs only add the most barebone contents |
18:21 |
agaran |
good afternoon |
18:21 |
mootpoint |
what is the wheat-flour-seeds complex and the iron-steel-bronze enigma? |
18:21 |
twoelk |
well that was the idea - keep the base game simple |
18:22 |
mootpoint |
ihrFussel: i like using scaffolding, you can breath underwater, you can almost completely see through it, and it breaks in one hit |
18:23 |
twoelk |
ingame you make flour from bushels of cut wheat and seeds drop randomly when harvesting |
18:23 |
IhrFussel |
I don't think adding a few more items to default that make sense would make the mod heavy |
18:24 |
mootpoint |
i dont either, however, the heaviness was the suggestion of making mesecons default, that would be way to much for just the vanilla |
18:24 |
IhrFussel |
We are not talking about ABMs, animations etc |
18:24 |
twoelk |
and bronze is harder than iron |
18:24 |
IhrFussel |
At least not when it's about removing water* |
18:25 |
mootpoint |
twoelk: on Fozland we have a threshing floor that you get seeds from and a mill to grind seeds into flour. that makes a whole lot more sense than the default.. however we still get the seed drops from wheat. also i dont use bronze often so dont have much input on that |
18:25 |
twoelk |
I don't think much should be added to mt-game in the near future but rather the existing gameplay and balance reorganized and tweaked |
18:26 |
IhrFussel |
mootpoint, no I agree there...mesecons should not be default cause they really cause LOTS of lag...but a simple node/item without timers doesn't |
18:26 |
twoelk |
yeah, I think WildesLand also has a better system regarding wheat |
18:27 |
mootpoint |
ihrFussel: what were we arguing about again? just kidding... but seriously, what item do you suggest to remove water that would be as fast and as cheap as torches |
18:27 |

18:28 |
mootpoint |
twoelk: if it helps you can earn fly after 60 days :) |
18:28 |
IhrFussel |
mootpoint, maybe not an item to remove water but rather one that lets you breath underwater in a way |
18:28 |
twoelk |
I guess the point is some people consider it wrong to be easy to replace water |
18:28 |

19:11 |
agaran |
well PNG isn't lossy format as far as I know, jpg is lossy |
19:11 |

yeah |
19:11 |

also it uses different palette width too, png can go up to 48bit one iirc |

twoelk, just to make sure: Your file is inside the textures folder of your mod? And you define the form inside init.lua as "image[X,Y;W,H;image.jpg]" ? |

basically that, yes |
19:44 |

But do I use background[] even if I want the image to be in the foreground? |
19:44 |
VanessaE |
that's how it works for formspecs more or less. it's the "background" that goes behind other widgets |
19:45 |
VanessaE |
look at signs_lib's text entry formspec for an example |
19:45 |

23:49 |
emunandPC |
this is MT DEV |
23:49 |
GreenDimond |
unstable |
23:50 |
emunandPC |
it should be |
23:50 |
GreenDimond |
https://launchpad.net/~minetestdevs/+archive/ubuntu/daily-builds |
23:50 |
GreenDimond |
daily |
23:50 |
emunandPC |
yes i know |
23:50 |
emunandPC |
the command pulls it from git |
23:50 |
emunandPC |
which is updated daily |
23:51 |
GreenDimond |
but that command replaces the stable MT does it not? |
23:51 |
emunandPC |
no, it doesn't |
23:52 |
emunandPC |
it just matters where you run it |
23:52 |
emunandPC |
just use the portable edition |
23:52 |
GreenDimond |
|:| |
23:52 |
GreenDimond |

23:52 |
GreenDimond |
i want to UPDATE the daily ver |
23:53 |
emunandPC |
this is how you update it then! |
23:53 |
GreenDimond |
run cd minetest; git pull; make -j$(nproc) ? |
23:53 |
emunandPC |

23:53 |
emunandPC |
https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=3837 |
23:53 |
emunandPC |
this forum post |
23:53 |
emunandPC |
"downloads and compiles Minetest Git" |
23:53 |
GreenDimond |
i know |
23:53 |
emunandPC |
the git is updated daily |
23:53 |
GreenDimond |
cd minetest; git pull; make -j$(nproc) is what it says |
23:54 |
GreenDimond |
"to update" @ bottom of post |
23:54 |
octacian |
GreenDimond: unless you compiled from source originally, you have to do it the other way. |
23:54 |
emunandPC |
i am talking about a different forum post |
23:54 |
emunandPC |
wait hold on |
23:55 |
GreenDimond |
hah. hah. hah. i am on that forum post. |
23:55 |
GreenDimond |
the one you linked. |
23:55 |
GreenDimond |
octacian: wat? |
23:55 |
emunandPC |
then use the portable install and move it manually |
23:56 |
emunandPC |
the bottom code doesn't seem to work |
23:56 |
emunandPC |
all it does is move the directory |
23:56 |
GreenDimond |
i orginally ran (to build daily): sudo apt-get install -y git build-essential libirrlicht-dev libgettextpo0 libfreetype6-dev cmake libbz2-dev libpng12-dev libjpeg8-dev libxxf86vm-dev libgl1-mesa-dev libsqlite3-dev libogg-dev libvorbis-dev libopenal-dev libcurl4-openssl-dev libluajit-5.1-dev liblua5.1-0-dev libleveldb-dev; cd; git clone https://github.com/minetest/minetest.git; cd minetest/games; git clone https://github.co |
23:56 |
as2j |
i can not script my player in minetest? |
23:56 |
emunandPC |
you can do it manually with a gui or the terminal |
23:56 |
GreenDimond |
rubenwardy said run this to update it: git pull origin master && make -j$(nproc) |
23:57 |
GreenDimond |
but idk what to do with that. |
23:57 |
octacian |
GreenDimand: huh then the update command should work. did you move or delete the "minetest" directory? |
23:57 |
GreenDimond |
nope |
23:57 |
GreenDimond |
why would i do that |
23:57 |
GreenDimond |
octacian |
23:57 |
octacian |
well, then what error does the update command give you? |
23:57 |
GreenDimond |
what exactly IS the update command? |
23:58 |
GreenDimond |
how do I use git pull origin master && make -j$(nproc) |
23:58 |
emunandPC |
what is the output of it? |
23:58 |
octacian |
cd minetest; git pull; make -j$(nproc) |
23:58 |
GreenDimond |
i paste it into terminal as is and that obviously aint right |
23:58 |
emunandPC |
does it say anything? |
23:58 |
octacian |
what do you mean it isn't right? Have you not even tried to see what the result is yet? |
23:58 |
emunandPC |
or does it do nothing? |
23:59 |
GreenDimond |
i pasted git pull origin master && make -j$(nproc) into terminal and it said stuff about repos git not found. lemme try what you said |
