perhaps default and ethereal mods need to be loaded _prior_ to 3d_armor |
16:02 |

in map meta all mods are false but they are |
16:03 |
everamzah |
though, by default 3d_armor has only a soft-dependency on ethereal, i believe. |
16:03 |
everamzah |
if they're all disabled in world.mt, check that you don't have anything in worldmods/ inside your world dir. |
16:03 |

default should be enabled, no? |

TheWild |
say, we have a solid non-light-emmiting block and the air next to it, having some light in param1. |
21:22 |
TheWild |
When smooth lighting is disabled, Minetest gives this light to the face of block and we see it like face is reflecting the light. This is the "basic" form of lighting in Minetest. |
21:22 |
TheWild |
However, when smooth lighting is enabled, Minetest gives the light to the vertices. On a floor, up to 4 squares can have a single vertex in common. |
21:22 |
TheWild |
I'm interested how Minetest computes the light level for a vertex between those 4 squares. Is this minimum, maximum, average or something else? |

21:32 |
TheWild |

21:33 |
TheWild |
I was reading light.cpp |
21:33 |
RealBadAngel |
there are just light level tables nothin more |
21:34 |
RealBadAngel |
for smooth lighting off, all the vertices get same light value |
21:35 |
RealBadAngel |
with smooth on, theres some weird math there ;) |
21:36 |
RealBadAngel |
light is calculated for each vertex of the node |
21:37 |
RealBadAngel |
so each vertex can have different light value depending on surrounding nodes and own light |

on smooth lighting enabled, when something that emits light (e.g. torch) is placed on flat surface, the "halo" often isn't a nice symmetric hexagon like in MC - it goes into ugly hexagon or 7-gon. This is because of triangle arrangement in a square. Color interpolations may look different on different arrangement. However, when certain conditions are met, triangle arrangment does not matter. |
21:47 |
rubenwardy |
It seems that the behaviour of hud_set_flags has changed |
21:47 |
rubenwardy |
now flag=nil means flag=false |
21:48 |
rubenwardy |
rather than before, flag=nil meant no change. |
21:48 |
TheWild |
AFAIK, on a flat floor there are no jumps of more than one level of light between vertices of square edges. |
21:51 |
|
Etzos joined #minetest |
21:53 |
TheWild |
so that comparing the light levels of vertices on a square and selecting the "better" triangle arrangment could fix the weird light patterns, but since I tested it by pen and notebook assuming perfectly linear light (gamma = 1.0), it may fail miserably on gammas other than 1.0 |
21:58 |
TheWild |
btw, ambient occlussion seems to already deal with the triangle arrangement |

hint for the API devs: in Minecraft when a block is placed or destroyed (or state changed?), six neighbor blocks are notified about such fact. So when a block is destroyed while a torch is on it, torch is notified, checks its new conditions and gets taken off. The same for sand, when it gets notified, it checks what is under and if nothing, starts to fall. |
22:26 |
TheWild |
although in MT for example sand works as intended, some stuff not necessarily. |
22:27 |
TheWild |
in MC it looks like every block notifies, but most of them do not react to notifications (there is simply nothing to do). |

Maybe just overhead. |

est31: Does that book also contain information needed to make new texture packs? |

afaik that book focuses on modding, not texture pack making. Making texture packs is pretty easy though - just make a folder in the textures folder, named whatever you want, and add textures to it with the same name as they have in the mod. |
23:12 |
est31 |
yeah, its very simple |

Here's a list of textures used in the default mod: https://github.com/minetest/minetest_game/tree/master/mods/default/textures |

The only thing about texture packs that needs a bit of documentation is the texture overrides file: https://github.com/minetest/minetest/blob/master/doc/texture_overrides.txt |
