00:01 rubenwardy Could NOT find Curses and LuaJIT not found, using bundled Lua: after having done sudo apt get install luajit ncurses-dev?
00:05 E4xoi where does calinou live
00:05 E4xoi im worried for him
00:06 rubenwardy -DCURSES_USE_NCURSES=1 -DCURSES_INCLUDE_PATH="/usr/include/curses.h" -DCURSES_LIBRARY="/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libncurses.so.5" solves it
00:07 kahrl_ rubenwardy: very strange, FindCurses.cmake should definitely look in those places
00:08 rubenwardy now for fixing luajit...
00:08 kahrl_ although if you want proper unicode support, you should use ncursesw instead of ncurses
00:10 rubenwardy luajit fixed with -DENABLE_LUAJIT=1 -DLUA_INCLUDE_DIR="/usr/include/luajit.h" -DLUA_LIBRARY="/lib/x86_65-linux-gnu/luajit-5.1.so"

00:13 Xack (010538)            E4xoi | im worried for him
00:13 Xack i was hoping they'd be online so i could ask them if they're alright
00:23 rubenwardy turned out that luajit is called libluajit-5.1-dev

00:40 thePalindrome_ If I submitted a patch for the engine to expose an api function, how hard would it be to get it accepted?
00:41 rubenwardy depends
00:41 rubenwardy on the quality of the patch
00:42 rubenwardy if the patch is good, then it will be easy
00:42 rubenwardy however you'll need to pressure devs into reviewing and accepting your patch
00:55 thePalindrome_ I see

01:11 JohnnyComeL8ly rubenwardy: You have to make sure that libncursesw-dev is installed.
01:12 JohnnyComeL8ly rubenwardy: I went through the same issues... I had to learn that "luajit" is like a python console.
01:13 rubenwardy I tried libluajit-dev and libluajit and luajit-dev, but none of them worked
01:13 rubenwardy stupid version quantifiers

01:14 JohnnyComeL8ly Don't you have a "lister" for the packages available in Fedora?
01:15 JohnnyComeL8ly rubenwardy: Like " apt search <pkg_name> "
01:16 rubenwardy ah
01:16 JohnnyComeL8ly or sub pkg_name for keyword
01:18 JohnnyComeL8ly rubenwardy: Did you install libncursesw ?
01:19 thePalindrome_ yum/dnf can search
01:19 JohnnyComeL8ly That is necessary for " --terminal " to be working....
01:19 thePalindrome_ btw, on debian it's apt-cache
01:19 rubenwardy I disabled curses in the end
01:19 rubenwardy but libncursesw existed in /lib/x86 whatever
01:20 JohnnyComeL8ly thePalindrome_: I like the colors in apt. ;-)
01:23 JohnnyComeL8ly rubenwardy: I found est31's --terminal to be interesting... I could imagine using it for my own server (I did use it, but it was just for my littlest brothers).

16:32 hoodedice so I got a new shiny Lumia 640 XL
16:33 tim_flatus I'm getting lighting anomalies. I'm hoping this has something to do with my version of MT being compiled against an older version of irrlicht than the one I have installed.
16:34 hoodedice is everything red?
16:35 tim_flatus no
16:35 hoodedice describe the afore mentioned "lighting anomalies", please
16:35 hoodedice I would love it if you could supply a screenshot as well
16:35 tim_flatus It happens around moretrees spawns, particularly ppines and jungltrees AFAICT

16:38 Jordach tim_flatus, probably treegen not performing a light update once built
16:40 hoodedice hmm, if the trees are genned after the mapgen, then it could be the worldedit-style lighting anomaly
16:40 tim_flatus http://imgur.com/q9cC5D0
16:40 Jordach tim_flatus, grow a tree
16:40 tim_flatus Yes that ^
16:40 Jordach (that should restart the lighting in that area)
16:40 hoodedice I think this can be fixed by having a lightupdate script thing in mods that deal with mod genning thing
16:41 hoodedice eeeeyup, if you dig around, or place a block and remove it, it should fix some parts of the lighting
16:41 hoodedice but do try growing a tree
16:41 tim_flatus There are several problems with just growing a tree - lack of light being one.
16:41 hoodedice I think if you plant a seed it should update that chunk
16:41 hoodedice which will relight the area
16:42 hoodedice do try
16:42 tim_flatus It doesn't
16:42 tim_flatus I have
16:42 hoodedice then this bug needs to be reported to whoever is moretrees' author
16:42 tim_flatus VanessaE knows about this already
16:42 VanessaE that would be me..
16:43 VanessaE the lighting issues are not moretrees though
16:43 VanessaE the engine handles light kinda badly in some cases.
16:43 VanessaE all moretrees does is call spawn_tree().  the engine handles the rest.
16:44 tim_flatus I have fixed this kind of thing by replacing air nodes with worldedit,
16:46 tim_flatus Is it something to do with the tree models crossing chunk boundaries?
16:46 VanessaE yes
16:46 tim_flatus Anyway I won't worry about either my graphics card or Irrlicht versions right now if that is the case.
16:46 VanessaE sometimes the engine doesn't emerge enough mapblocks to hold the tree model, or emerges them in the wrong order, something like that
16:47 tim_flatus OK thanks VanessaE

17:48 JohnnyComeL8ly I don't like Android the best, but it is better than the other mainstream alternatives.  The best, imo, is a "regular" GNU/Linux desktop with tablet friendly UI, like GNOME 3.

17:56 * who_wants_some likes win2000 classic theme
17:57 JohnnyComeL8ly who_wants_some, is serious?
17:57 who_wants_some i'm serious
17:57 who_wants_some it is simple, clean and easy to use
17:58 JohnnyComeL8ly I'm most interested in a stable UI, so if I can't get fancy and stable I'll drop to stable and plain.
17:58 who_wants_some forget about stable ui
17:58 who_wants_some linux got that problem, and windows too
17:58 who_wants_some and mac os too
17:58 who_wants_some too much changes for sake of changes
17:58 JohnnyComeL8ly who_wants_some, yeah, but some are worse than others.
17:59 who_wants_some win2000 is last business-like theme, next ones went into shiny ass department
18:00 JohnnyComeL8ly est31, I thought I wouldn't like GNOME 3 because everyone was blubbering about it, but I like the UI overall. Plus the fact that they are moving to Wayland is an attractor.
18:00 who_wants_some i don't like some aspects of G3
18:01 who_wants_some no taskbar, no minimize button, that is BS9000
18:01 JohnnyComeL8ly who_wants_some, "shiny ass"...? wut on earth....
18:01 est31 JohnnyComeL8ly, everybody is moving to wayland
18:01 who_wants_some shiny, glassy, greeny, flaty, whatever
18:01 JohnnyComeL8ly There is no taskbar, but you can place minimize buttons, just is in the settings.
18:01 est31 JohnnyComeL8ly, even X devs
18:02 who_wants_some what I don't like is the move to FLAT land, everything is flat, buttons, text, controls, i mean wtf?
18:02 JohnnyComeL8ly Well, Unity/Ubuntu isn't afaik.
18:02 JohnnyComeL8ly who_wants_some, I think it looks better than win2000.
18:03 who_wants_some there is no reason to hide minimize/maximize... why on Earth?
18:03 JohnnyComeL8ly I don't like how Win8 did "flat" but it doesn't look the worst.
18:03 JohnnyComeL8ly who_wants_some, you didn't spend much time using it, did you?
18:04 who_wants_some G3?
18:04 who_wants_some i've added everything back, as usual
18:05 who_wants_some wth is wrong with those people, they hide necessary things and users are forced to hack everything via obscure tweak tools
18:05 who_wants_some i don't want gnome tweak tool %)
18:06 who_wants_some this minimize/maximize buttons should be in settings
18:06 who_wants_some whatever
18:06 who_wants_some gnome people are strange, like mac os people
18:07 who_wants_some maybe they are same one
18:07 who_wants_some think different (c)
18:09 who_wants_some at least linux people have all kinds of box, wm, xfce, lqxt, lxde
18:09 who_wants_some also it feels like gnomers take GTK as hostage
18:09 who_wants_some and want to sink with it deeper
18:10 Calinou Qt master race
18:10 Calinou flat design is great, who_wants_some
18:10 Calinou it compresses better (eg. screenshot), is faster to render, is easier to code…
18:10 who_wants_some remember systray icon support removal? wtf was that!?
18:10 Calinou it's not necessarily easier to make though
18:11 who_wants_some why on earth they remove systray support in gtk? it is like they are shooting in their own balls
18:13 who_wants_some latest news make me depressive, w10 bs, spying, telemetry, encryption, vulnerabilites everywhere, mt is slow, plasma is not stable, gnome is adding features
18:15 JohnnyComeL8ly who_wants_some, I don't want some of that... bad news.
18:19 JohnnyComeL8ly VanessaE, I couldn't get the Ctrl + Shift + U to work... I think it depends on the APP.

18:49 hisforever Where can I find a mineters download for ubuntu?
18:50 Gael-de-Sailly minetest is downloaded from apt
18:50 Calinou hisforever, https://launchpad.net/~minetestdevs/+archive/ubuntu/daily-builds
18:50 Calinou follow the instructions on "Adding this PPA to your system"
18:50 hisforever tjanks
18:50 Gael-de-Sailly why daily builds ?
18:50 Calinou they're more recent :)
18:50 Gael-de-Sailly some people want stable releases only
18:51 Calinou hisforever, if you want only stable releases, go there: https://launchpad.net/~minetestdevs/+archive/ubuntu/stable
18:51 Gael-de-Sailly so hisforever, you have the choice :)

19:00 hisforever Ok I found the file to copy how do I compile it? please?
19:02 hisforever I'm not a programer a newbee to this kind of stuff
19:08 JohnnyComeL8ly hisforever, You have a .deb file, correct?
19:09 Calinou don't download .deb directly, hisforever
19:09 Calinou add the APT repository as described
19:10 JohnnyComeL8ly Calinou, you can, but you won't get updates.
19:10 Calinou there's no real dependency management with plain dpkg
19:11 JohnnyComeL8ly You can install with Ubuntu Software Center.
19:11 Calinou the version in official Ubuntu repositories is out of date
19:11 Calinou especially on Ubuntu LTS
19:11 JohnnyComeL8ly *You can use USC to install local .deb files that you downloaded.
19:12 Calinou also USC is slow as hell :)

19:21 rubenwardy How would I identify entities in a spatial partition for the purpose of synchronising them across server/client?
19:22 rubenwardy If I assigned a unique id to each, then I'd need to have some hash map to look them up from by id
19:22 rubenwardy alternatively the id could be based on MapBlocks, in which case the id may change a lot - could cause bugs if the packet is dropped
19:23 rubenwardy this is OT, btw
19:23 rubenwardy I think I'll use unique ids and a std::map, and worry about optimisation later
19:24 Calinou use reliable UDP implementation, or TCP
19:24 Calinou (eg. enet)
19:24 rubenwardy ew enet
19:25 rubenwardy I'm currently using raw UDP sockets
19:25 rubenwardy I tried to setup enet, but I couldn't work it out. I found raw UDP a lot easier
19:25 est31 Calinou, enet is an example of a non reliable UDP implememtation as it seems
19:26 Calinou rubenwardy, raw TCP might be easier
19:26 rubenwardy No
19:26 est31 I mean non reliable in the sense of "dont use it", not in the sense of "properties of the protocol"
19:26 rubenwardy TCP doesn't send immediately
19:26 Calinou est31, yes, it lacks IPv6 support
19:26 rubenwardy it can have up to 2 seconds of buffer
19:26 Calinou but lots of people seem to say it's good
19:26 rubenwardy !g TCP for gamine
19:26 MinetestBot rubenwardy: https://1024monkeys.wordpress.com/2014/04/01/game-servers-udp-vs-tcp/
19:27 Calinou "gamine" means "child" here :P
19:28 rubenwardy the packets could give a clue of the partition its in.
19:29 rubenwardy For example, Entity 0x13040505 in partition (123,321,0)
19:29 gravgun TCP sorta sucks for gaming
19:29 gravgun SCTP masterrace!
19:29 rubenwardy TCP is ok for chess/turn based
19:29 rubenwardy !g SCTP
19:29 MinetestBot rubenwardy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stream_Control_Transmission_Protocol
19:29 est31 gravgun, there is no general "tcp sucks" or "tcp is great" for gaming
19:30 gravgun >"sorta"
19:30 est31 well it sorta doesnt suck as well
19:30 gravgun Depends on the game
19:30 gravgun sure for turn-based games it's perfect
19:31 gravgun for more real-time applications it's less suited

20:22 est31 so contact the server owner to reset it
20:23 DutchGamer its on a VanessaE server and yes know haha its per-server
20:25 JohnnyComeL8ly I'm glad it is so....
20:25 DutchGamer so Vanessa!! help me xD
20:28 TheWild I forgot password once, but now I do not remember which server it was.
20:28 DutchGamer damn that s*cks
20:30 Krock DutchGamer, you're allowed to write the full word here
20:30 DutchGamer since when thats allowed? xD
20:30 Krock since sucks.
20:30 DutchGamer ah xD okay that sucks xD
20:30 Krock no, it doesn't suck, it's fucking genous.
20:31 Krock +i
20:31 DutchGamer nah it sucks.... lot of little kids gonna insult than xD
20:31 Krock Oh, do you worry about getting banned for being a kid who insults people?
20:33 DutchGamer no xD
20:33 est31 there is inchra #minetest where you get into problems if you say "fucking great"
20:33 DutchGamer im not a kid
20:33 est31 and there is freenode #minetest where you can say all this stuff
20:33 DutchGamer and i am only banned 1 time xD
20:33 DutchGamer in a few year playing time ;)
20:33 Krock est31, and on rizon #agario you're kicked for saying "cyao" or "skip" (two times)
20:34 Krock heheh, pranked some people there by calling myself "hola", so players who said the nickname got kicked
20:35 est31 whats bad about hola
20:35 est31 it means hello, no?
20:35 Krock DutchGamer, there will be a reward after 1337 bans
20:36 Krock est31, yes. This way they try to filter non-english speakers out
20:37 who_wants_some huston, we have a problem -> https://i.imgur.com/zXBQSJr.png
20:38 Krock slow down a bit and move slowly away
20:38 Krock btw, why is there no Minetest icon on top left?
20:41 Calinou gravgun, fun fact: Cube 1 used TCP, and it was very slow. This is what motivated eihrul to write ENet
20:42 gravgun And that is why I use ENet in my game
20:47 Calinou but enet lacks IPv6 support :(
20:47 Calinou a fork of it supports it (maintained by Freeminer developers), but it's not really released as a standalone fork
20:48 est31 why you use plural Calinou?
20:48 est31 hehe :)

23:42 basil60 hi I want flatten a large patch of ground in my Minetest sandbox, to play around with mesecon logic blocks. I installed a flatgen mod; does anyone know how I might use it?
23:43 who_wants_some well, create world, enable flatgen in world settings, ???, play!
23:46 est31 you'll need latest minetest for it though basil60

23:53 est31 basil60, unfortunately not, you'd need a development version
23:54 basil60 <est31> Ok..thanks. I've used Minecraft on RaspPI, where I could code my way to making flat ground. Can I do that in Minetest?
23:55 Ingar joined #minetest
23:56 est31 basil60, yes!
23:56 est31 you can do a flat lua mapgen
23:56 est31 and there should be a mod
