sfan5: since each file is named for its sha1 hash, isn't there some way to turn that hash into the binary form that index.mth needs? |
11:31 |
sfan5 |
VanessaE: of course there is, but what would that help with? |
11:32 |
VanessaE |
well in your script you cat through all the files twice - once to create the filename, and then a second time to get the sha1 digest of the same files |
11:35 |
VanessaE |
looks like I could just echo the text hash | openssl dgst -binary -sha1 |
11:39 |
VanessaE |
hm, nope. |
11:40 |
sfan5 |
openssl dgst -binary -sha1 hashes the input and outputs the sha1 hash as binary |

GitHub |
13:41 |
Calinou |
it has a Pages service, where you write your blog using Jekyll |
13:42 |
Calinou |
(or static HTML, or another static site generator) |
13:42 |
Calinou |
you get a subdomain xxxxx.github.io |
13:42 |
Calinou |
with your nickname |
13:42 |
Calinou |
minetest.net is hosted on GitHub Pages for instance |
13:42 |
Calinou |
(it uses a CNAME to link the domain to minetest.github.io) |
13:43 |
Xeprione |
woah, did not know that :O |
13:43 |
Calinou |
this means you can't use a PHP back-end though |
13:43 |
Calinou |
no database, no "CMS"... |
13:43 |
Calinou |
but for many uses, if you know HTML/CSS/JS, it's not a problem |
13:43 |
Xeprione |
so, no Wordpress? |
13:44 |
Calinou |
no, you can't use WordPress |
13:44 |
Calinou |
you can't use any back-end code |
13:44 |
Calinou |
only front-end |
13:44 |
Xeprione |
ok |
13:44 |
Calinou |
this doesn't mean your pages can't be dynamic, you can still use client-side JavaScript to make some things dynamic |
13:44 |
Xeprione |
wait, what does minetest use for the minetest forums then? |
13:44 |
Calinou |
the forums are hosted on celeron55' VPS |
13:44 |
Xeprione |
oh ok |
13:44 |
Calinou |
it used to use nearlyfreespeech too |
13:47 |
Xeprione |
fuck it, imma use github for a static blog... :P |
13:50 |
Xeprione |
oh and Calinou, i know i'm allowed to edit minetest's source code, but am i allowed to make my own forks for it, that *might* include some features, that make it easier for the user to play? |
13:50 |
Xeprione |
like a lot easier |
13:50 |
Xeprione |
(i mean with hacks) |
13:50 |
Xeprione |
i'm allowed to do that, right? :D |
13:51 |
est31 |
Xeprione, everybody can fork minetest |
13:52 |
Xeprione |
i know that |
13:52 |
est31 |
as long as you are compliant with its license |
13:52 |
Xeprione |
it will |
13:52 |
Xeprione |
but my question isn't that... |
13:52 |
|
swift110 joined #minetest |
13:52 |
Xeprione |
my question was if i am allowed to make forks with cheats :D |
13:52 |
Xeprione |
as many as it's possible on the client-side |
13:53 |
Xeprione |
like, i've seen that when i used CheatEngine, speedhack worked |
13:53 |
|
Dead_Thinker joined #minetest |
13:53 |
Xeprione |
so the speed of the player isn't really calculated by the server |
13:53 |
est31 |
it is |
13:53 |
Xeprione |
which means it's possible to make it |
13:53 |
Xeprione |
wait, the speed IS calculated by the server? |
13:53 |
est31 |
yes and no |
13:54 |
|
Xenoth joined #minetest |
13:54 |
Xeprione |
by calculating it, i mean does the client send the direction of the player to the server and then the server moves the player a certain distance |
13:54 |
Xeprione |
or does the player move, then send the new location to the server? |
13:54 |
Xeprione |
if it's the second one, speedhack should work |
13:56 |
CWz |
This could really make some server admins really livid |
13:56 |
Xeprione |
i know :D |
13:56 |
Xeprione |
but did you know that... |
13:57 |
Xeprione |
in order to fix security exploits |
13:57 |
Xeprione |
one has to first find one |
13:57 |
CWz |
yes |
13:57 |
Xeprione |
so i think, i might be on to something here |
13:57 |
Xeprione |
i'll make that client for testing |
13:57 |
Xeprione |
and then maybe change the server code to fix that |
13:58 |
kaeza |
but sometimes, it's hard to justify "to find security exploits" while you steal a million dollars in the proces ;) |
13:58 |
kaeza |
+s |
13:58 |
Xeprione |
depends |
13:58 |
CWz |
hmm |
13:58 |
Xeprione |
if you give all of the money back, the company will probably hire you |
13:58 |
Xeprione |
and won't press charges |
13:59 |
Xeprione |
that's just my opinion |
13:59 |
CWz |
minecraft has a noclip anti cheat by default maybe i would be possible to figure how it works and then implement it to minetest |
14:00 |
Xeprione |
do it |
14:00 |
Xeprione |
oh btw, download intellij |
14:00 |
Xeprione |
it has a java decompiler |
14:00 |
Xeprione |
(wink wink) |
14:00 |
Xeprione |
the source code is obfuscated... |
14:00 |
Xeprione |
but i mean, if you're up for it, do it :D |
14:00 |
Xeprione |
yolo :D |
14:03 |
Xeprione |
what? crap, i thought i was gonna be the first to think about it.... but i'll still give it a shot after i finish pixelbird 2 |
14:04 |
est31 |
minecraft's anti-cheat is dead simple, but it requires additional computation by the server |
14:05 |
est31 |
(at least what Calinou told me about the anti cheat feature, never played minecraft myself, or read about that anticheat) |
14:06 |
Xeprione |
well, how about i try to make a fork of the server, that will include the anti-cheat feature |
14:06 |
Xeprione |
for those who want it |
14:07 |
CWz |
minecraft also has a bukkit mod called NocheatPlus which has lots of anti cheating stuff |
14:07 |
est31 |
but Xeprione if you have looked at the source code of minecraft, then its bad |

14:13 |

making simple cheats in minetest is easy as screwing up a pie receipt no need for c++ knowledge just knowning how the syntax works is enough |
14:13 |
Xeprione_ |
yes, but what if i also make a wallhack? :D |
14:13 |

14:15 |
est31 |
in 1345 you find all the people who demand ability to do wallhack |
14:15 |
est31 |
Xeprione_, no |
14:15 |
Xeprione_ |
it's server-side, huh... |
14:16 |
est31 |
most of the stuff is server-side |
14:16 |
Dead_Thinker |
Calinou: thanks |
14:16 |
* Teckla |
wants 2 cheats: client-side time-of-day cheat (so it can be daytime locally, even if nighttime on the server), and no-clouds cheat :) |
14:16 |
est31 |
but we'll get clientside scripting, so lotsa modders will execute code on the client |
14:16 |
est31 |
and lots of that code will be trusted |
14:17 |
Xeprione_ |
teckla, that's possible tho |
14:17 |
Xeprione_ |
i think |
14:17 |
Xeprione_ |
by just removing the bit of code that draws the clouds |
14:17 |
Xeprione_ |
and removing the day-cycle part |
14:17 |
Calinou |
client-side time of day faking is possible, has been done on Minecraft |
14:18 |
Calinou |

https://youtu.be/ji3jCi2xLKM?t=50s, he just rolled the wagon upside down. MC was intended to be just some specific game but has its internal engine far more "powerful" than Minetest. Why they can and we can't? |
17:20 |
TheWild |
by saying "powerful" I mean that allowing rotation over additional axis isn't anything special, most games has it. It just fundamental to the engine! |

RichardTheTurd, Minetest already uses the GPU for rendering... |
17:42 |

the problem is that you can't rely on CUDA or OpenCL for "generic" computing too much, because servers don't have graphics card and CPU emulation is slower than native CPU code |

erm.... if everything was fine before your back up...... try restoring your backup :/ |
18:39 |
bleak_fire_ |
it apparently wasnt |
18:39 |
bleak_fire_ |
i did restore the backup and it didnt matter |
18:40 |
crazyR |
you just siad it was fine |
18:40 |
bleak_fire_ |
other travelnets are fine |
18:40 |
Krock |
crazyR, ^^ there are many more good quotes, just browse |
18:40 |
bleak_fire_ |
i'm pretty sure it was |
18:40 |

i can restore last weeks |
18:40 |

i was hoping to find the asshole and revert only him |

huh |

18:46 |
bleak_fire_ |
chatting meaning complaining about problems |
18:47 |
Krock |
can't agree. |
18:48 |
bleak_fire_ |
moreover the protection blocks on the mg-generated street have all been replaced too |
18:48 |
bleak_fire_ |
with juncus |
18:48 |
bleak_fire_ |
which a grep doesnt show anything suspicious |
18:48 |
bleak_fire_ |
juncus is all over town |
18:48 |
bleak_fire_ |
the protection blocks on buildings including the ones supposedly protecting travelnets are fine |
18:49 |
bleak_fire_ |
is it possible to roll back periods of time for everyone? |
18:49 |
Krock |
only with enabled rollback |
18:49 |
bleak_fire_ |
i have a backup but it's a few days old |
18:49 |
bleak_fire_ |
i think i did |
18:49 |
bleak_fire_ |
yep |
18:49 |
bleak_fire_ |
i thought that only applied to individual players |
18:50 |
bleak_fire_ |
does rollback depend on the debug.txt? because i renamed and gzipped the original when doing backups |
18:51 |
bleak_fire_ |
i can put them together if i have to |
18:51 |
bleak_fire_ |
nope rollback apparently is only the player |
18:56 |
bleak_fire_ |
anyone have any ideas? |
18:56 |
bleak_fire_ |
my last backup was the 11th and everything there is fine |
18:57 |
bleak_fire_ |
apparently it happened sometime during the 14th |
18:57 |
bleak_fire_ |
but rollback says it only does players |
18:57 |
bleak_fire_ |
individually |

i think i found the culprit |
