Hello all, is there a list of conductive blocks? What I mean, are which blocks allow power through them, like putting a solar panel on one side, that will allow you to connect a wire to the other and power it |
06:09 |
bjrohan |
Actually, I am not understanding something. I made a sample light post with brick, a solar panel and a mese torch, it works as expected. I tried a different approach, a panel, brick block, and mese wire out the other end, and it is not powered |
06:09 |
bjrohan |
the wire that is |
06:12 |
bjrohan |
If I connect the mese wire directly to the panel, it is powered. On my lamp the order is solar panel, brick block, and mese torch, then the light block, it works as expected, the power goes through the block to the torch |

06:21 |
VanessaE |
bjrohan: in the mesecons mod, blocks are not "conductive" in that way |
06:22 |
VanessaE |
bjrohan: though wall levers and wall buttons will pass their signal through any block, horizontally |
06:22 |
VanessaE |
and Mese blocks are conductive in any direction (they form a 6-way junction) |
06:22 |
VanessaE |
(I think) |
06:22 |
bjrohan |
VanessaE: I am at a loss to my situation, as to why it is working on the light I made in the example here: http://uberi.mesecons.net/projects/MeseconsBasics/index.html |
06:22 |
VanessaE |
and also mesecons torches I believe will pick up a signal from the other side of the block they're on, but that's it |
06:23 |
bjrohan |
VanessaE: My power source in this case is a solar panel, on the side of a house that will turn on the lights inside when it is dark |

VanessaE |
http://uberi.mesecons.net/projects/MeseconsBasics/img/StreetlampFinal.png you mean this image? |
06:26 |
bjrohan |
VanessaE: yes, I have that built and it works great. However I am trying to replicate it, the exception being the panel is on the side of the house, to no avail |
06:26 |
VanessaE |
lemme see if I can reproduce it.. |
06:27 |
bjrohan |
VanessaE: I even removed the block the panel was on, connected the mese torch right to the back of the panel, and it is still not "reversing" the power |
06:28 |
VanessaE |
I am able to turn the torch on just fine from the side: |
06:28 |
bjrohan |
VanessaE: hmm, My setup now, horizontal panel, mese wire, then a light block, light block doesn't light, the wire does. Remove the wire, put light block against panel, works |
06:29 |
VanessaE |
http://digitalaudioconcepts.com/vanessa/hobbies/minetest/screenshots/Screenshot%20-%2009232014%20-%2002%3a29%3a54%20AM.png |
06:29 |
VanessaE |
ah, that's why it fails for you |
06:29 |
VanessaE |
you have to put the torch like I just did there ^^^^^^ |
06:29 |
VanessaE |
the torch is what picks up the signal from the solar panel |
06:29 |
VanessaE |
not the wire |
06:29 |
VanessaE |
that is to say, |
06:30 |
sfan5 |
meow :3 |
06:30 |
sfan5 |
hi everyone |
06:30 |
VanessaE |
the solar panel is not sending its signal across the block, it's the torch that's reaching through to read it |
06:30 |
VanessaE |
hi sfan5 |
06:30 |
bjrohan |
VanessaE: yes, in the last example I took off the torch just to get straight regular power, and the wire didn't tramsit power to the lightblock |
06:30 |
VanessaE |
yeah, you can't do that |
06:30 |
VanessaE |
you have to invert it like I just did |
06:31 |
VanessaE |
the torch is needed here because it's what's reaching "through" the block to read the solar panel's output |
06:31 |
bjrohan |
But the light didn't come on during the day |
06:31 |
VanessaE |
I just tested it myself, per the screenshot |
06:31 |
VanessaE |
it works exactly as it should |
06:31 |
Brains |
I think the RNG is trying to make nice... Found 14 diamonds in one place, 5 in another, another 10 in yet another... |
06:32 |
VanessaE |
bjrohan: now, if you were to use a mese block on the back of that solar panel, IT will transfer the signal. |
06:33 |
VanessaE |
then you can pick it up with a wire |
06:34 |
est31 |
is there no linewrap in git? |
06:35 |
bjrohan |
VanessaE: I am trying to make it so that at night lights come on, and daytime fans come on, however I just realized the fans in the home decor run all the time, so that is pointless |
06:35 |
VanessaE |
bjrohan: try this: http://digitalaudioconcepts.com/vanessa/hobbies/minetest/screenshots/Screenshot%20-%2009232014%20-%2002%3a35%3a48%20AM.png |
06:35 |
VanessaE |
bjrohan: then invert the signal at the point you need to |
06:35 |
VanessaE |
bjrohan: actually sooner or later I will add some kind of way to turn fans/lights on and off in Homedecor |
06:36 |
* Brains |
decides that he shouldn't push the RNG and goes back to home base with 44 diamonds. |
06:36 |
bjrohan |
VanessaE: That would be very cool. If I understand correctly, you can't take power right from a solar panel to a wire through any block? |
06:37 |
bjrohan |
In other words, panel, attached to a block, then a wire on opposite side of block for power trnasmission |

bjrohan: to a wire, no, not through just ANY block. BUT a mese block is conductive in all 6 directions, as you see there. now, look here: http://digitalaudioconcepts.com/vanessa/hobbies/minetest/screenshots/Screenshot%20-%2009232014%20-%2002%3a38%3a59%20AM.png |
06:39 |
VanessaE |
bjrohan: what I did here is used a Mese block to conduct the solar panel's signal, on the left, through the wall, to pass it to the wires there to its right, then I used a NOT gate to invert the signal and passed it to that lightstone. |
06:39 |
bjrohan |
That now makes sense. Can't pass through block to a wire, but can pass through Mese block to a wire. however can pass through a block to a mese torch |
06:39 |
VanessaE |
correct. |
06:40 |
VanessaE |
mese block is like a 6-way wire junction. |
06:40 |
VanessaE |
wall levers and wall buttons are a special case: they will transmit through any block, to a wire on the other side. |
06:42 |
bjrohan |
Ok. I have the mese wire going across the top of a lightblock, it will not light it, however it appears if I run the wire beside it, then it works, is this typical? |
06:43 |
VanessaE |
yep, for lightstones it is. |
06:43 |
bjrohan |
I am trying to put the lights in a ceiling, and then run the wires in the "attic" across the tops of the lights |
06:43 |
VanessaE |
mese lamps (small, square-ish objects, much smaller than the cube ones you're using) on the other hand can be lit from the back |

!tell Sokomine Hi there is a bug with your spraybooth. When you "take the output" and then place it in your inventory where there is already something else, that something gets deleted. Normal behaviour would be that that something then hangs at the cursor and can be placed somewhere else. |

06:46 |
VanessaE |
no, "mese lamps" |
06:46 |
VanessaE |
they are a small flat, square object |
06:47 |
VanessaE |

I haven't gotten into anything yet (I first tried Minetest way back when Minecraft was in beta and thought it was neat but haven't touched it since) but from a little digging online, it seems modding is a lot easier than on Minecraft. |
18:33 |
Some_Donkus |
I have a question about modding though. Will the server upload content to the users on that server? Like if you create a new weapon, a blow gun or musket, will the server be able to upload the models, code, and textures to the clients so they can use it on the server? |
18:34 |
crazyR |
yeah :) |
18:34 |
Some_Donkus |
That's awesome! So in theory you'd be able to make a train mod on your own server and everybody who logs on will see trains going around and be able to use them without having to go download your mod correct? |

What is the most reliable metric people use to estimate how many people play Minetest? Is it how many people are registered on the forums? |
21:26 |

Hm. There seem to be a lot of exploding reactors in Landrush. Landrush is at minetest.org port 30011 BTW. Are they supposed to explode so much? |

Guest_______: I wouldn't think forum registration would be very accurate since anybody can just install the program and run it. Perhaps repo updates would be the most accurate representation of how many people are using it. |
21:29 |

I'm not sure how you'd be able to get a list of how many updates occur with each release on every distro though. |

The number of google searches should shed some light on if it's gaining any popularity in response to an event (like the recent Minecraft purchase) though that's not particularly useful on it's own. |

That's what I was thinking, either that or make use of a local translator dependency. |
