01:56 zat ShadowNinja: once I walk over a new block, are all the minerals underground generated as well?
01:56 zat a new zone I mean
01:57 ShadowNinja zat: Yes, when a block is generated all ores are added.
01:58 zat well sure that is not an issue if I install a mod that adds a rare ore

02:56 Peacock 100% packet loss (ping) = bad connection?
02:58 zat = !connection
02:59 Peacock well the users connect to my server, but ping is full packet loss, should i kick?
02:59 Peacock (i checked on 3rd party websites, same result)
02:59 ShadowNinja Wait, you're pinging users as they connect?
03:00 Peacock onjoin yeah
03:00 xming joined #minetest
03:00 ShadowNinja Some routers/conputers don't respont to ICMP ping.
03:03 Peacock sucks, theres alot of users who sign in and stand there with the avatar blacked out for hours
03:05 kaeza poll position/controls every few seconds, and kick (ban+unban) if not moving/doing anything for some time like 5 mins or so
03:06 Peacock that could work, was  hoping to avoid the ban/unban thing by using ping and prejoin but i guess thats not possible
03:11 ShadowNinja Using prejoin like that will lock up the server during pinging.
03:13 Peacock forgot about that one thread to rule them all bit lol
03:25 zat Is there a way to enable leveldb for the creation of a world? It is always created with sqlite.
03:30 ImQ009 joined #minetest

03:34 Miner_48er I'ld like to make a bucket priv but I haven't seen any simple way to do that any suggestions?
03:35 zat lol ShadowNinja
03:36 zat ShadowNinja: how has the new rollback gone? I mean, did you get the improvements you asked me about the other day?
03:36 ShadowNinja Miner_48er: Decorate minetest.registered_items["bucket:bucket_empty"].on_place
03:37 Miner_48er thx
03:37 ShadowNinja zat: What improvements?
03:37 ShadowNinja (same for water and lava variants)
03:39 zat ShadowNinja: You asked me about field types after you experienced some performance loss
03:41 ShadowNinja zat: Yes, that was a while ago though.  Anyway the docs sat that NUMERIS is identical to INTEGER except when performing casts.
03:41 ShadowNinja said* NUMERIC*
03:42 zat But did you manage to improve?
03:44 ShadowNinja No, I haven't worked on it since then.
03:44 zat Damn, I was expecting it to be as performant as I left it.
03:46 zat uhm, in the code I see all is INTEGER.
03:53 Robby is anyone using Mob Framework (mobf) on multiplayer? I read that it does not ork well on multiplayer servers yet, is that still accurate? and if so, any other mob mod that does work?
03:54 Robby browing the mods pages it looks like its the only mob mod
03:54 kaeza there's also simple mobs
03:55 kaeza https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?id=3063
03:56 Robby ah, great, thank you
03:57 kaeza it's not as demanding as MOBF, but then, the mobs aren't as smart ;)
03:57 zat kaeza: which one you think that is less cpu intensive?
03:58 kaeza zat, see above :P
03:58 ShadowNinja zat: One is TIMESTAMP, which is a NUMERIC type to SQLite.
04:00 zat lol kaeza
04:00 Peacock well you dont want mobs that are smarter than the players :/
04:01 zat ok I am changing it for my build then ShadowNinja rofl
04:01 Peacock in MC, players build shit and defend against mobs, in MT, the game builds shit and defends against players :P
04:02 * kaeza 's "healer" mob alone is more demanding than an army of vombies
04:02 kaeza (unreleased [yet])

04:18 blaise I really like the fireplace and chimney mod
04:18 blaise a lot.
04:19 blaise I need to set my server to have normal time dilation, and set it to the local time the server is on
04:21 zat I remember once seeing a nice snow scenery with slow falling flakes. Someone knows the name of this mod if it is one?

04:56 zat Peacock, blaise. I think snow does not have those big slow falling flakes. Only a bunch of small ones that also slow down the cpu.
04:57 blaise does the weather mod have snow accumulation on the ground?
04:57 blaise I'm going to test it out
05:08 blaise is it possible to load and unload mods from a server while it's in operation?
05:08 blaise or do I have to shut it down?
05:08 blaise yey or neh for hotswapping mods ?

05:42 VanessaE well so much for the water reflow code being fixed!
05:43 * VanessaE just managed to lag her server all to hell by creating a large lake of flowing water for the sake of some rapid landscaping.  nope.avi!
05:45 blaise anyone have any experience with firestone mod ?
05:45 blaise VanessaE: yeah... I have a bunch of people trying to turn all buildings into fountains...
05:46 blaise what was that movie with Kevin Costner?
05:46 blaise Water World?
05:46 blaise my whole map..
05:46 blaise or, it was..
05:47 blaise I'm on a snow covered island in the middle of nowhere trying to hide from the madness

06:13 blaise I'm in the mid-east
06:13 Peacock does shadow or minetestbot do F to C conversions?
06:14 paramat http://i.imgur.com/lq1Lgqu.png HD image river crossing fissure
06:15 hmmmm i assume it's just a band of perlin noise with a lot of octaves?
06:15 hmmmm or is there more of an algorithm to it
06:15 hmmmm i had an idea of carving rivers based on random spline curves
06:16 Peacock you could almost move all the mapgen stuff to lua with all the crazy stuff paramat comes up with lol
06:17 paramat the river / canyon channels are defined by a small noise range in 3D noise, math.abs(noise) < 0.1
06:17 paramat ... creates long winding connective structures
06:18 Peacock did that dirt ridge thing get fixed? its still popping up all over my islands
06:18 paramat hmmmm any ideas? https://github.com/minetest/minetest/issues/1077
06:18 paramat good timing :)
06:19 Peacock ninja'd lol
06:19 paramat i assumed that was an old well known unfixable bug
06:20 Peacock id have to try your island mod on an older version MT
06:20 paramat i've seen that since 0.4.3
06:20 hmmmm it has to do with mud flowing
06:20 paramat oh of course ... :/
06:20 hmmmm at least that's what I'd assume if I didn't see grass in the middle of the ocean
06:21 Peacock an older version default then lol
06:21 Peacock tho, flowing mud? who came up with that
06:21 paramat the dirt ridges / trenches dont appear in desert ...

06:22 Peacock *VanessaE ^
06:22 paramat dirt flowing into previously generated neighbouring chunks? oh bye hehe
06:23 Peacock weird that it should be in straight lines though
06:23 Peacock forming perfect squares lol
06:23 paramat ... large caves does that too
06:23 blaise what clown logs in to a server that doesn't own it as "Admin"
06:23 blaise lol
06:23 paramat those are chunk boundaries
06:23 VanessaE killed.
06:23 Peacock thanks, 2nd time tonight with that bitcoin shit lol
06:24 Peacock p if the chunk boundaries are being raised then its either ongen (mapgen) or vmanip, what else could cause it?
06:24 Peacock blaise I get those idiots too :P
06:25 VanessaE paramat: that old bug?  I thought they fixed that
06:26 paramat the dirt of default v6 mapgen flows over chunk boundaries into previously generated chunks, griefing lua mapgen
06:26 VanessaE Peacock: it would be straight lines if seen from above
06:26 Peacock must be a really old bug i don't recall it
06:27 paramat exactly the same bug as large caves putting slab shaped holes in everything =P
06:28 Peacock though in another strange instance, i get small circle cutouts of my vmanip generated shield bubbles, this is new as of 048
06:28 paramat though now you can do 'is_ground_content = false' to avoid that
06:28 paramat oh yeah i saw your screenshot
06:29 Peacock yeah its really weird and cant figure out what it is, it doesn't happen in my oct9 git minetest version
06:30 Peacock you'd almost think it was related if it weren't for the fact in one case it draws circles and the other squares lol
06:31 Peacock though the only two nodes defined for my vmanip is air and shield, and i get cutouts (air), in the mapgen mod, i get dirt ridges, which is defined in the islands' vmanip

07:52 Selat Can I try to implement fast circuit simulator in core of minetest that works in O(number of logic gates)?
07:53 Hirato you can probably do one that works in O(number of circuit pieces) :P
07:53 mrtux joined #minetest
07:54 kahrl you can even do O(1)
07:54 Hirato the easiest thing to do is probably to track the "power source" for any circuit pieces
07:54 Hirato might get a bit heavy with lots of pieces
07:54 Selat I mean that speed of simulation doesn't depend on length or amount of wire (if nothing is added or destroyed).

18:20 xyz <xyz> so you want to set up your own? what's the point?
18:20 VanessaE I *don't* want to set up my own, but it seems like I'm going to have to if I want my domain to resolve to the IP of my server.  there does not appear to be another option.

18:29 Jordach xyz, you have someone who wants stupidly slow finite liquids as default
18:30 xyz Jordach: keep telling yourself that
18:30 proller Jordach, no. networking - only ~5% of lag
18:30 Jordach you're still using lag as an umbrella term for all your speed issues
18:31 xyz oh teach me what should I use "lag" for
18:32 * MegafAtWork understand lag as the network latency, the time to it takes for a request to arrive on the server and get back to the user
18:33 proller ^^ == ping

19:41 Peacock in any case, the novelty of android wore off after about a year lol
19:41 * playzooki would like to know how to add a new file to a github repo from the windows application
19:41 Jordach playzooki, /<user>/Documents/GitHub/<project name>/<files to add here/
19:41 Jordach then hit that sync button
19:41 playzooki thanks
19:41 xyz we can't just go on and port features from -classic
19:42 Jordach it'd (perhaps) solve the smooth world idea :)
19:42 Peacock john i thought google did
19:43 xyz because -classic is licensed under GPLv3
19:43 Peacock unless darkrose just gives the code
19:43 Peacock (license it to mt in lgpl)
19:43 xyz yes, we'll have to ask for permissions for every commit or something
19:44 xyz that's not a problem now since darkrose apparently is the only one who develops it
19:44 xyz we just ask her and that's all

19:44 Peacock in any case if 1 person could do the roof thing, then i imagine the big dev team here should be able to come up with something as nice
19:44 Peacock (if not better)
19:44 xyz the big dev team here currently does udp/tcp mixed thing it seems
19:44 xyz moreover
19:45 xyz how many people do you think actually write C++ code?
19:45 Peacock i'd like to thing everyone with a "Developer" label on the forums lol
19:45 Peacock *think
19:48 Miner_48er VanessaE is the moretrees_settings.txt files still used or is the forum post outdated?
19:48 VanessaE if it exists, it is used.
19:49 VanessaE it just isn't created by default anymore
19:49 xyz Peacock: your rose-colored glasses are a bit too intensive
19:50 rubenwardy hmmmm
19:50 Miner_48er ok all that mod needs to work is plantlib and no config changes?
19:50 Peacock well i did say "like to think" :P which developers don't do c++ though?
19:50 rubenwardy (oops, sorry for highlight)
19:51 Peacock wow, this is insane, 19 mods, 10 players and both my cores are maxed out :/
19:52 xyz use freeminer
19:53 Miner_48er VanessaE ok all that mod needs to work is plantlib and no config changes?
19:53 Peacock ill have to try it out yeah, the whole server right now locks up for several seconds every minute
19:54 Peacock anyone know what this means?: ERROR[main]: WARNING: updateListener: invalid value
19:57 xyz Peacock: also I really hope that you use leveldb
19:57 Peacock naw i just use the default setup
19:58 Ritchie Peacock: this was a bug caused that my brother were teleported somewhere far away in one direction
19:58 khonkhortisan joined #minetest
19:58 VanessaE Miner_48er: yeah
19:58 Peacock ritchie you get it too? its weird as f
19:59 Ritchie Peacock: I didn't get it but my brother yes
19:59 Ritchie I agree, it is weird
20:00 rubenwardy Added flag fetching to capture the flag: the players will have to pick up the flag, and then take it to their spawn flag to win
20:01 Peacock did it happen to him after digging alot?
20:02 xyz Peacock: you should use LevelDB
20:02 Ritchie it did mostly if he walked
20:03 proller actual lag meter - https://github.com/proller/minetest/commit/ecde7389099fcf174631395694e57749ce986e88
20:03 Peacock ritchie me i dig say a tunnel, then move, and it happens
20:03 Peacock xyz why isn't it default though if its > sqlite?
20:03 xyz Peacock: because windows
20:04 xyz (I guess)
20:04 Peacock ah yes, im guessing on linux you have to compile with some flag to get leveldb?
20:04 Ritchie Peacock: he has version 0.4.6, he has minetest downloaded from website (some linux system), he didn't have compiled minetest because of poor CPU (amd athlon xp 1800+)
20:04 Ritchie *had
20:05 xyz and some people always whine "what if it's broken sqlite so good never break but leveldb no good"
20:05 Ritchie it happened before summer holidays
20:06 Hirato_ they should've gotten all the serious bugs with 0.4.9
20:06 Peacock been happening since 046 me too all the way up to 048
20:07 Peacock i kinda wish minetest had a preinstall script like some distros have a post-install script, "would you like X or Y db support?" etc.
20:08 Ritchie Peacock: what version do you have? the one from website or distribution package or do you have compiled minetest?
20:08 Peacock always compile, repo versions are always old
20:09 Hirato_ even Arch at present >_>
20:09 Ritchie Peacock: db backend can be set by compile flags I think
20:09 Hirato_ nah, at best you can enable leveldb
20:10 Ritchie my settings from ccmake: ENABLE_LEVELDB                   OFF
20:10 Hirato_ use "1" or "ON"
20:10 Peacock looking at the minetest.conf example it seems theres no easy on off switch there
20:11 xyz https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?id=8183
20:11 Ritchie what are advantages of use leveldb?
20:12 xyz it's faster
20:12 xyz and according to some people it doesn't break in some weird circumstances
20:12 Peacock "when its eaten, replenishes all lives."
20:12 pitriss Ritchie: and mapper won't work with leveldb:)

20:14 xyz moonscript definitely seems interesting
20:14 xyz i should try writing some mods in it to piss people off
20:14 Ritchie wow, some little advantages and one major problem :)
20:14 xyz well you could make it work
20:14 Ritchie :D
20:14 Hirato_ it also makes you toast in bed
20:15 Peacock toast would be nice
20:15 xyz by converting your map to sqlite every time you want to redraw the map
20:16 xyz but still, no one has written a proper isometric mapper
20:16 xyz why's that? :(
20:16 Peacock well you did?
20:17 xyz it's not proper
20:17 xyz can't draw shit, very slow
20:18 Peacock FIFE's written in cpp
20:18 xyz who knows, maybe porting minecraft overviewer is a better idea

20:18 Peacock http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flexible_Isometric_Free_Engine
20:18 Peacock isometric engine
20:18 Hirato_ fallout inspired isometric engine
20:18 Peacock maybe overkill for what we need lol
20:19 Calinou xyz, overviewer is very heavy and slow to use, it's not made for putting stuff over the web or such
20:19 xyz it's not?
20:19 Calinou it focuses on looks, not on speed
20:19 xyz what is it made for then?
20:19 Calinou local views
20:19 Peacock fife's even lgpl and renders in opengl, not bad
20:20 xyz Calinou: well are there any other mappers?
20:20 xyz those that maybe could provide some generic interface which we can just replace

20:30 xyz well great!
20:30 xyz keep using it!
20:30 xyz but I have some problems with it
20:31 xyz 0) it doesn't work
20:31 xyz 1) it requires me to manually browse map, manually make sure blocks get loaded, manually take screenshots
20:31 xyz not sure about this point since it doesn't work
20:31 rubenwardy That would be awesome, proller. I need about five players minimum to test the ui, and for bugs. Wednesday/Thursday is ideal, 6pm gmt (2.5 earlier than the current time noow.) i dont mind really.
20:33 proller better send me ready-to use config, i can start 24/7 server
20:35 rubenwardy thanks :P I still need to do some alpha testing, before going to beta.

20:53 VanessaE Miner_48er: no but snow mod has a tendency to cause other mapgen hooks not to work right for some reason
20:56 Miner_48er VanessaE so It's compatible with plantlife or could it cause problems?
20:56 VanessaE it's compatible
20:57 VanessaE the only problem you could expect to see is fewer plants
20:57 Miner_48er could that also effect moretrees?
20:58 VanessaE yes

22:15 Taoki kaeza: I later plan to make a function that can also set the player camera's location and rotation, as offsetting it could be helpful. I was thinking FOV could be added to that
22:15 Taoki something like player.set_camera(position, rotatin, fov, transition_speed)
22:15 kaeza that FOV transition idea is cool
22:18 xyz I'm afraid network lag will make this unusable

23:47 Peacock isn't ping sortof arbitrary though? there's the distance between the serverlist (presumably in russia) and the servers, and then there's the distance between the clients and the servers (if i understand correctly)
23:49 Peacock though i'd be interested if you could implement your ping for servers so server admins could know how bad a user's connection is
23:50 xyz germany, not russia
23:50 proller serverlist located in DE
23:51 Peacock my bad
23:51 Peacock though the ping is relative to the distance between the two points?
23:52 proller ping less than 200 is useless, it mean connection ok
23:52 proller ping more than 500 mean connection or server's connection thread is bad
23:53 Peacock well i was just wondering if it wouldn't be more practical for clients to ping servers themselves to get a more accurate reading
23:53 proller lag is moore intresting
23:53 proller yes, and openttd does server ping from client
