03:08 RavonTUS Greetings, I have a wierd request for help...MT crashes but the error mess is cut off mobf.lua: 505: attempt ????  So, I can't troubleshoot.
03:08 RavonTUS Any suggestions for tweaking the screen in Ubuntu or MT to see the message??
03:11 Enke If what I know is correct, you can find a full debug.txt in the bin folder.
03:17 RavonTUS ok I'll look.
03:20 ShadowNinja RavonTUS: You can also check the terminal output.

04:55 hoodedice VanessaE
04:56 VanessaE hi
04:57 hoodedice Do you have a comprehensive list of all missing mods?
04:57 hoodedice I think I'll open up a forum thread for all rphaned mods
04:57 hoodedice *orphaned
05:00 Sokomine how do you define if a mod is oprhaned?
05:00 NakedFury abandoned
05:01 hoodedice A. The developer has quit premanently. And has voiced so
05:01 hoodedice Ex: Cornernote, DanD
05:02 hoodedice B. The developer has just left the site, leaving his mods to rot.
05:02 hoodedice Ex: THIS: https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?id=5185
05:03 Sokomine hmm. a) might be detectable to a degree. b is far more difficult.....
05:03 hoodedice If download links are down, we can count it as being orphaned/.abandoned
05:04 hoodedice C. The developer does not want to develop his mods further, and has voiced so.
05:04 hoodedice Ex: None XD
05:04 NakedFury for B we could say a 6 to 1 year period
05:04 Sokomine ah. yes. hopefully someone has a copy stored for such cases
05:04 hoodedice I would think that even a 6 month period would suffice
05:05 Sokomine not all mods really need further development. it depends on the mod...sometimes they're already fine enough
05:05 hoodedice Indeed.
05:05 hoodedice But some examples of those that may need further dev may be Cars and RealTest Revamped
05:06 hoodedice Paramat adopted Cars though
05:07 Sokomine perhaps it might be a good idea to supply downloadable versions attached to the first posting for all mods
05:07 hoodedice ?
05:07 Sokomine that would be especially fine for those hosted on not-working platforms (such as mediafire)
05:08 Sokomine vanessa: hm, did you change the textures of the leaves in rt? i somehow don't manage to get them to display normal again :-(
05:08 hoodedice mediafire: Not working?
05:09 hoodedice Should also add somewhere that certain sites like omdlr should not be used
05:10 NakedFury why?
05:10 VanessaE Sokomine: I did.  you have to trim the padding off the top and bottom of all the leaves images
05:10 VanessaE they're sized to be displayed with the plantlike draw type.
05:10 hoodedice NakedFury: ompdlr is down
05:10 hoodedice Anddamn unreliable
05:11 hoodedice I think people should use bigger hosting sites like Google Drive, or Ubuntu One
05:11 hoodedice Or maybe Wuzzy
05:12 Sokomine mediafire seems to require javascript -> does not work
05:12 hoodedice Sorry, I meany *Wuala
05:13 hoodedice JS? Oh Damn you Stallman XD
05:13 hoodedice I still don't get what is so wrong with JS?
05:13 Sokomine what about the forum hosting? if it's attached directly to the posting the mod can be downloaded at the same time (and with the same reliability) as the posting describing the mod and attracting the player
05:13 Sokomine most mods are pretty small
05:14 Sokomine hoodedice: downloading a file just doesn't require javascript. it can be done excellent without (unless the site in question wants to do questionable things which do need javascript)
05:14 hoodedice And that's why I don't get why they don't use GitHub at all!
05:15 Sokomine it would be ok in situations where js is required for a functionality that cannot be done otherwise
05:15 Sokomine perhaps some modders don't know how to use github or don't have the time to learn it
05:15 hoodedice So everyone turns off JS when downloading stuff?
05:15 Sokomine the forum attachment function is excellent for these cases
05:15 Sokomine no, wrong. js gets turned on on rare occasions
05:16 hoodedice Hmm, forum attachment gets one over mmdb
05:16 hoodedice Oh boy, you evaders!
05:17 Sokomine mmdb is also very fine. both ought to be supported :-) plus a github repro. the easiest for modders might be to just use the forum attachment
05:19 hoodedice If the NSA really knew what was in my Google Drive, they would've killed me by now! XD
05:23 hoodedice Sokomine: Didya check out my handstand mod?
05:23 Sokomine most likely they don't care. they'll take a closer look if you become more important i guess. the real problem with the nsa and co is more complex
05:24 hoodedice They gave me an F1 visa.
05:25 hoodedice Maybe they'll get me at the airport lol

07:02 reactor Anyone using vim on a regular basis, here?
07:02 reactor Why doesn't it want to save to read-only files all of the sudden?
07:03 reactor (I own the files)
07:03 reactor nvi saves to them just as fine, with the ":w!"

07:16 * VanessaE shrugs
07:17 VanessaE the way I figure it, if I wanted a command line, I wouldn't have launched an editor :P
07:18 reactor ?
07:18 reactor I don't use GUI editors.
07:18 VanessaE ^^^ why I don't like vi (and hence use nano or gedit, as appropriate to the situation)
07:19 reactor Mkay.
07:20 VanessaE though I find myself missing jpico sometimes :)
07:21 reactor You're trolling, right?
07:21 VanessaE nope.
07:22 VanessaE I cut my teeth on pico.
07:22 VanessaE jpico (joe with pico/nano-esque key bindings) later, then nano, then finally to gui-based apps when I got tired of doing everything in the terminal.

10:05 Megaf really dark
10:05 hoodedice intel?
10:05 hoodedice intel.
10:05 Megaf the sky is blue and everything else is dark
10:06 hoodedice intel indeed
10:06 Megaf nope, AMD Radeon HD 4200, with open source radon driver
10:06 Megaf brb
10:20 specing yestersday I got trapped in the protector rock user interface

10:21 specing how do I escape it?

10:22 specing Megaf: get rid of that radeon and get an nvidia
10:22 specing or intel
10:22 specing just not ... radeon blegh

10:23 reactor NVIDIA works under FBSD.
10:23 reactor Does Radeon work?
10:23 specing nvidia always worked for me
10:24 specing Intel is nice, they have official opensource drivers
10:24 specing Now
10:24 reactor Does Intel do 3D graphics?
10:24 specing How do I escape the protector UI?

10:24 reactor Good.

10:24 specing on HD2500

10:39 reactor 720p is quite sufficient, yes.

19:07 Calinou and percentage reporting could be more accurate (eg: 40.2% instead of 40%)
19:09 Calinou it'd be more accurate for long downloads, and it doesn't cost anything to do
19:09 Calinou it looks smoother when downloading
19:12 rubenwardy What kind of bench marks will it have, sapier?
19:12 sapier no noticable lag to be added
19:12 rubenwardy Cool
19:13 sapier that's the goal and I have reason to assume this can be done
19:14 sapier but it's not implemented yet
19:16 Calinou there was a percentage, still

19:44 specing john_minetest: what?
19:45 specing john_minetest: ~/.minetest/ is onl 56 MB here
19:48 specing What is loading so much time?
19:48 specing Is the client downloading all the mod .lua files and JITing them?
19:48 specing or is the client downloading world state?
19:50 specing because if it is the second then mods can't ruin it much
19:57 specing thats bad
19:57 specing it should be cached
20:02 Sokomine it is. but not the first time you join a server
20:02 specing Sokomine: Ima slap you for this
20:02 Sokomine it just takes so long on the first connection. due to the caching, it gets much faster later
20:02 * sfan5 puts a kitten on specing's head
20:03 specing oh wait, misunderstood
20:03 specing well it still takes a while
20:03 * Sokomine grabs the kitten and runs away with it
20:03 specing and the screen flashes a lot
20:03 specing not sure if my tiling WM is to blame or the broken nvidia
20:03 specing or minetest
20:04 Sokomine it does take a long time (1 minute/mb independent of connection time can happen). some servers provide additional download of media from another server. that happens automaticly when it's offered
20:04 Sokomine screen flashing sounds odd
20:04 iqualfragile can somebody explain rollback to me
20:05 Sokomine iqualfragile: which version? old or new one? technical or using it to roll back an actual griefer?
20:05 iqualfragile new, everything
20:07 Sokomine hm, for details you ought to ask who coded it (iirc zat?). the interface for the user is the same as before - except that it's much much faster now (=can actually be used without doing a dos attack on the server) and lists more than the last action on that node
20:09 Sokomine are you familiar with the old rollback?
20:12 zat ShadowNinja added the last bit though.
20:12 zat Was the new rollback included then?
20:13 Megaf joined #minetest
20:15 Sokomine yes, it's now included. if only we could reach redcrab and get him to install a newer version!

22:04 fixed hi all... im new to minetest. do i need to add a mod to get monsters?
22:05 kaeza fixed, yes
22:05 fixed ah no wonder its so quiet here ;)
22:06 kaeza fixed, https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?id=629 https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?id=3063
22:06 kaeza the former is more lightweight, but the monsters are a bit dumb
22:06 kaeza the latter has more intelligent monsters, but is also more demanding on resources
22:07 kaeza eh the other way around
22:08 fixed i go for lightweight at first :)
22:08 fixed thanks man
22:08 fixed ehh ... kaeza said the first one is light? :)

23:37 danquebec_ Hi. I use Fedora 19. I compiled Minetest 0.4.8 some days ago. When I start playing in a world, it almost immediately crashes. I get a segmentation fault.
23:37 danquebec_ There is the result: http://fpaste.org/59410/13862863/
23:38 danquebec_ And when I run with gdb: http://fpaste.org/59412/28647313/
23:42 danquebec_ (this last link is the backtrace on gdb when it has segfaulted)

23:50 danquebec_ Wow really? Lol I’m really out of luck.
23:50 danquebec_ Thank you. Going to try that.
23:52 PandemoniuM just made a .x shape in milkshape. I used the heli.x model from Helicopter mod to make it within the same size
23:52 PandemoniuM but its super small in game, yet you can tell its within a much larger block
23:56 ShadowNinja PandemoniuM: Try setting visual_scale to something higher.
