a little of all of the above. |
00:01 |
VanessaE |
he moved twice, got swamped by work, and well the internet issue remains unconfirmed. |
00:02 |
Inocudom |
Why does he need to move so much? |
00:02 |
VanessaE |
idk |
00:02 |
VanessaE |
trying to find a good place that's cheap enough |
00:02 |
VanessaE |
his financial situation is...dismal. |
00:02 |
Inocudom |
Swamped by work... That is not fun at all... |
00:02 |
VanessaE |
or was when we last talked. |
00:03 |
Evergreen |
Ugh, sounds awful |
00:04 |
Inocudom |
The financial situation of me and my parents isn't too good either, but we are able to stay in our house. |
00:06 |
Peacock |
heck i moved 4 times in 2 years lol by now i have recurring dreams that im moving and i actually wake up with back pain as if i did lol |
00:06 |
VanessaE |
oh jeez |
00:07 |
Peacock |
last place was OK until some really trashy neighbours moved in and it became unlivable |
00:07 |
Peacock |
thats why we aimed for something with a higher rent |
00:07 |
Jordach |
hello Inocudom, didn't see you there :P |
00:07 |
thefamilygrog66 |
I moved twice this year, still have a lot of stuff in storage, and I guess I still have a room in an apartment (that I haven't lived in since mid-July) for a couple more days. |
00:08 |
Peacock |
(you dont do car repairs with blazing lights and music between midnight and 2am lol) |
00:08 |
thefamilygrog66 |
managed to sell a house and buy another one in the meantime |
00:08 |
VanessaE |
the place abe and I are in, with some luck, will be the last. |
00:08 |
Peacock |
our current place has an extra room we don't really need, but anything smaller would bring us back to the bad-neighbour paradigm lol |
00:09 |
VanessaE |
Peacock: to be fair, I was out working on my car a couple weeks ago at 4am :D |
00:09 |
thefamilygrog66 |
haha |
00:09 |
VanessaE |
(but without the blasting music) |
00:09 |
Peacock |
or big halogen spotlights? |
00:09 |
thefamilygrog66 |
you write like a Canadian, Peacock. or a Brit. |
00:09 |
Peacock |
french canadian :P learned brit english :P |
00:09 |
VanessaE |
no, just a little 100W-equivalent drop lamp :) |
00:10 |
Peacock |
drop-lamp not so bad, i had the halogen spots shining into our place (1st floor) |
00:10 |
thefamilygrog66 |
haha, cool. I live in Kingston myself. |
00:10 |
Peacock |

00:10 |

00:10 |
Peacock |
ah my sister went there 15 years ago, so i visited a few times |
00:10 |
Peacock |
alot like the town i live in now |
00:11 |
thefamilygrog66 |
right on |
00:11 |
Peacock |
she got married in Gananoque (sp?) |
00:11 |
Peacock |
though that night's a bit of a blur for all of us lol |
00:11 |
thefamilygrog66 |
I hadn't lived in the city for a dozen or so years - been in rural and woodsy areas - but just moved back here |
00:11 |
thefamilygrog66 |
you spelled Gan correctly! |
00:12 |
Peacock |
damn, i miss the spelling on much easier words lol |
00:12 |
thefamilygrog66 |
hehe |
00:12 |
Peacock |
what brought you back to kingston, work? |
00:13 |
thefamilygrog66 |
I've been working here since '99, but eventually got tired of all the driving (my last house was 50km north |
00:13 |
Peacock |
that all? ive done Toronto, Montreal, and now central Quebec lol |
00:13 |
Peacock |
moved to the small town so i wound't need a car |
00:14 |
thefamilygrog66 |
I only really use my van to cart around my kids now, which is nice |
00:14 |
thefamilygrog66 |
have lived in Ottawa, K-town and Vancouver |
00:14 |
Peacock |
id go out and live in the woods if i could, but the wife needs to see normal people on a regular basis :p |
00:14 |
thefamilygrog66 |
haha, true enough |
00:14 |
thefamilygrog66 |
I miss elements of it for sure |
00:15 |
Peacock |
Ottawa sounds cool, id be afraid of living on Vancouver though |
00:15 |
Peacock |
well one thing i wouldn't look forward to: septic tanks lol |
00:15 |
thefamilygrog66 |
it's a little scary. I lived there in the mid-90s |
00:15 |
Peacock |
aparently its worse now |
00:15 |
thefamilygrog66 |
septic tanks are the devil |
00:15 |
Peacock |
tho mtl and TO are worse now than before too so lol |
00:15 |
Peacock |
TO: Crack addict Mayor |
00:16 |
thefamilygrog66 |
Van was pretty bad when I was there, lotsa junkies, etc. |
00:16 |
thefamilygrog66 |
He's hilarious! |
00:16 |
Peacock |
MTL: 2 mayors in one year resigned over mafia-related corruption charges lol |
00:16 |
Peacock |
my friends say there's a lot of meth-heads in TO now too |
00:16 |
thefamilygrog66 |
keeping it classy |
00:17 |
Peacock |
well MTL is like the gateway to north america for cocaine, so you can guess the #1 hard drug of choice here lol |
00:17 |
thefamilygrog66 |
I like Montreal - people dance when I play music there. Lots of beautiful women, too. |
00:18 |
Peacock |
montreal is a nice place to party, but you want to live off-island lol |
00:18 |
Peacock |
the tickets, the streetgangs, the taxes, no wonder 1/3 of montrealers are below poverty line lol |
00:19 |
thefamilygrog66 |
I'm sure that's the case. I haven't played there in awhile - played at L'Escogriffe a few times and Quai des Brumes |
00:19 |
Peacock |
what kind of music you play? |
00:21 |
Peacock |
ive worked at modavie - live jazz place, apart from that ive been to every other bar/club at least once lol |
00:22 |
thefamilygrog66 |
The last bunch of times I've played MTL was as a one-man band, doing swampy bluesy rockabilly sort of stuff. Drums/percussion with my feet, guitar with my hands, harmonica, kazoo and growling with my mouth. Hah! |
00:23 |
Peacock |
not bad, though these days its mostly dubstep and fake DJs everywhere lol |
00:23 |
thefamilygrog66 |
I also sing and play combo organ for a '60s garage-punk band, and vocals and bass in a schlocky metal band. |
00:24 |
thefamilygrog66 |
Mostly known for solo recordings I made back in the '90s - that was '60s psych stuff mainly. |
00:24 |
Peacock |
so you must like the early pink floyd stuff |
00:24 |
thefamilygrog66 |
Syd Barrett stuff a lot, yes. |
00:25 |
Peacock |
i only sign after 12 or 14 beers, and even then it's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8hjtFq3vE0) |
00:25 |
thefamilygrog66 |
haha, 12 or 14! It's been awhile since I could pull that off. |
00:26 |
Peacock |
i loved the early pink floyd stuff around 16-18 (in combo with some substances lol) |
00:26 |
khonkhortisan |
Is there a make uninstall? |
00:26 |
Jordach |
khonkhortisan, sudo rm -r * (don't try) |
00:26 |
Peacock |
12-14 not so bad, 36 gave me headaches for two days lol |
00:26 |
khonkhortisan |
I can't figure out why the only singleplayer world that shows up in the list is an old one |
00:27 |
thefamilygrog66 |
Nice, that's when I got into that stuff as well. Been into the whole '60s garage/psych thing since. |
00:27 |
Peacock |
the only problem with pink floyd/hendrix and co is theyre not making anything new, eventually you know it all by heart |
00:27 |
Peacock |
(well, hendrix cant really make anything new XD) |
00:27 |
thefamilygrog66 |
yep. |
00:28 |
Peacock |
even the newest pink floyd stuff was too new agey for me lol |
00:28 |
thefamilygrog66 |
I'll send you a link to a fan-made video for one of my solo songs - definitely early Floyd-influenced. |
00:30 |
Peacock |
does remind me of syd |

compared to alot of yt songs |

It only sees one of my worlds. If I move it, the list is empty. If I create a new one, it doesn't get added to the list. Minetest mentions all my worlds (even the invalid ones) on startup in the terminal. |
00:37 |
Peacock |
your world is legitimate if it has both a mother and father on the birth certificate |
00:37 |
thefamilygrog66 |
I'm totally gonna add groans/screams/etc. to it when the player changes heads |
00:37 |
Peacock |
skrillex could help with that |
00:38 |
Inocudom |
Your worlds do that, khonkhortisan? I never had a problem like that. |
00:38 |
thefamilygrog66 |
I'm not entirely convince that skrillex and Corey Feldman aren't the same person. I've never seen them in the same room together... |
00:38 |
khonkhortisan |
My worlds _should_ be fine, they just don't show up in the singleplayer list. |

The world that's selected in the conf doesn't show up, but for some other reason |
01:08 |
Peacock |
what happens when you comment it out from conf? |
01:09 |
khonkhortisan |
what's the comment character? |
01:09 |
Peacock |
uhm, # i think |
01:09 |

(or just cut the line to clipboard while you try it out) |

01:10 |
khonkhortisan |

01:10 |

01:10 |
Peacock |
still not showing up? dang |
01:11 |
Peacock |
wait, was minetest completely closed when you changed the conf? |
01:11 |
khonkhortisan |
oh, it added the same line somewhere else |
01:11 |
khonkhortisan |
yes it was |
01:11 |
Peacock |
well if it re-added the line then somehow it was still running or the change didn't save |
01:12 |
khonkhortisan |
Starting the only world that does appear in the list changes the selected world in the conf |
01:12 |
pgrytdal |
VanessaE, I had an issue with your Furniture mod :S I get this error: http://imgur.com/mwsVjdo |
01:13 |
Peacock |
you can rename mods like that |
01:13 |
Peacock |
change FurnMod2 to homedecor |
01:14 |
khonkhortisan |
the init.lua will create nodes with the name "modname:nodename", the file has to be in mods/modname/init.lua |
01:17 |
VanessaE |
FurnMod? |
01:17 |
VanessaE |
that's not mine |
01:17 |
VanessaE |
maybe you mean lrfurn, which needs to be named "lrfurn". |
01:17 |
VanessaE |
Home Decor mod has to be named "homedecor" |
01:17 |
khonkhortisan |
the init.lua says what it is |
01:18 |
VanessaE |
the folder name I mean |
01:19 |
khonkhortisan |
mainmenu_last_selected_world, is that based on the order the worlds appear in the singleplayer list? |
01:19 |
khonkhortisan |
because it's 2, and only one appears. |
01:20 |
pgrytdal |
I changed the name of the folder to something I thought wold be more memorable. Apparently, you can do that, as I was told, so I changed it back. |
01:20 |
VanessaE |
pgrytdal: that's correct - folder names are important in mods. |
01:20 |
khonkhortisan |
If I move my minetest.conf, the singleplayer world list is completely empty. |
01:20 |
VanessaE |
they must be named exactly as the mod author specifies. |
01:21 |
khonkhortisan |
then I create a new world, the same old world shows up again. |

a few people want it, but the devs generally say 'fuck no' |
02:27 |
Peacock |
fuck no to what? |
02:27 |

Peacock: per-node light tinting. |
02:28 |
VanessaE |
red here, green over there, etc. |
02:28 |
Peacock |
oh that, yeah good luck getting it pulled :P |
02:28 |
VanessaE |
and there was a hack for 0.3.x that could do that, too |
02:28 |
VanessaE |
but that code was lost long ago |
02:28 |
Peacock |
though theyre willing to add heat/humidity, so go figure :p |
02:30 |
Peacock |
though sticking the rgb value in meta (like infotext) wouldn't require such a deep change |
02:30 |
VanessaE |
agreed |
02:30 |
VanessaE |
the problem is rendering it though |
02:30 |
andersje |
I'm guessing heat/humidity doesn't hammer fps rates like per-node lighting would |
02:30 |
Peacock |
not like adding a param |
02:30 |
VanessaE |
since I guess the client doesn't receive the metadata, does it? |
02:30 |
Peacock |
well i guess it depends how infotext works |
02:30 |
VanessaE |
hrm, good point |
02:30 |
VanessaE |
didn't think of that |
02:31 |
VanessaE |
so it's possible with the existing protocol |
02:31 |
VanessaE |
well, you've got your work cut out for you :P |
02:31 |
VanessaE |
andersje: I doubt colored lights would really hurt fps all that much, since torches et.al don't |
02:32 |

i wouldn't be the one to do it, thats one surefire way to make sure it never gets pulled :P |

(so regular low-end clients aren't affected) |
02:34 |
Peacock |
i know less about shaders than i knew my way around the light code :/ |
02:34 |

lighting code seems more obfuscated now than before too :/ |

not as much so as they used to be though |
02:42 |

03:45 |
khonkhortisan |
How many squares wide is your texture? |
03:46 |
aldobr |
this sprite is 8x8x8 |
03:46 |
aldobr |
the problem is that they are being generated incorrectly |
03:47 |
aldobr |
thats a purely geometrical problem (but i cant stand anymore of python programming) |
03:47 |
khonkhortisan |
On sproxel, the texture on the left side of the visible cube has red on the top-left and blue on the top-right. The texture on the right side has blue on the top-left and red on the bottom-left. To have a checker tile over a cube, you either have to have all the corners of the texture be the same color (one square smaller than pictured), or you have to rotate the texture on some of the sides. |

03:54 |
aldobr |
http://pastebin.com/J15AdhfB <-- this is the source code, needs sproxel, place it on sproxel plugins directory |
03:54 |
khonkhortisan |
In sproxel, did you actually use blue and red cubes to make it, or is it a single mesh with textures? |
03:55 |
aldobr |
red and blue |
03:55 |
aldobr |
sproxel is "pixel" based (voxel) |
03:55 |
aldobr |
you draw things using single color cubes |
03:55 |
khonkhortisan |
Are the images it output only different in their rotation? |
03:55 |
aldobr |
this plugin allows you to export init.lua and textures right from sproxel |
03:56 |
aldobr |
khonkhortisan: they maybe wrong in other ways, dont know :/ |
03:56 |

03:58 |
VanessaE |
khonkhortisan: s/front/nominal -Z side/ |
03:58 |
khonkhortisan |
-Z? I thought it was +Z |
03:58 |
VanessaE |
nope. +Z is the back side of the node. |
04:00 |
khonkhortisan |
So then the textures go top, bottom, right, left, back, front. |
04:00 |
VanessaE |
yes |
04:00 |

i believe sproxel uses ----> X |
04:00 |
aldobr |
^ Y |
04:01 |

+ Z |
04:01 |
VanessaE |
^ Textures of node; +Y, -Y, +X, -X, +Z, -Z (old field name: tile_images) |
04:01 |
aldobr |

04:01 |

You'll have to convert that too |
04:01 |
VanessaE |
the nominal Z- side is the front. |
04:02 |
khonkhortisan |
but it doesn't say that ^ |
04:02 |
VanessaE |
but that's how it works, nonetheless. |
04:03 |
VanessaE |
of course it depends on which side you want to treat as "front" |
04:03 |
VanessaE |
but I think most of us go with how e.g. a chest or furnace is defined. |
04:03 |
khonkhortisan |
normally the facedir-placing side |
04:03 |
VanessaE |
which puts "front" on the -Z side. |
04:03 |
khonkhortisan |
aldobr your problems would be easier if you just shrink the texture to 7x7 and have red on every corner |
04:04 |
aldobr |
i cant |
04:04 |
aldobr |
the texture has the exactly same ammount of pixels as the sprite |
04:04 |

better you should be using colored arrows - two colors per side |

You can use mods on other people's servers, or you can use them on your own server. You can enable/disable mods per-world. |

Without line numbers, you would have no goto |

then you learn to use multiple textures, compositing, etc. Then learn nodebox modeling. Then you learn to make your nodes DO something useful e.g. change colors when you punch. |

in minetest, we call them nodes |

is 16x16 or 32x32 the texture size for nodes |
05:20 |
VanessaE |
any size you want |
05:21 |
VanessaE |
16px is preferred |
05:21 |
VanessaE |
but it depends on the needs of your node |
05:21 |
jimbob |
ok then |
05:21 |
VanessaE |
in the mesecons mod, for example, most of the textures are 16px, but a few are 32px because they don't look right otherwise |
05:22 |
jimbob |
that makes sense |
05:22 |
VanessaE |
meanwhile, some textures in pipeworks are 64px |
05:22 |
VanessaE |
(most actually) |
05:44 |
khonkhortisan |
pipeworks need the higher pixel-to-world unit detail because of their smaller size |
05:45 |
VanessaE |
that's part of it |
05:45 |
VanessaE |
mostly it's because I did everything in measures of 1/64 |
05:45 |
VanessaE |
so 64px textures fit exactly to the edges |

are these all the groups there are snappy,choppy,oddly_breakable_by_hand,flammable ? |
05:51 |
VanessaE |
those are the main ones |
05:51 |
VanessaE |
but you can make new groups too, by simply putting them |
05:52 |
VanessaE |
groups = {snappy=2, choppy=1, mygnu=5} |
05:52 |
VanessaE |
etc |
05:52 |
VanessaE |
then any time you need to refer to your new group, for example in a recipe, you just do so, e.g. recipe = {{"group:mygnu", "stone", "wood"}, ..., ...} |
05:53 |
jimbob |
ok thats cool |
05:53 |
VanessaE |
minetest game uses those you listed for managing tool lifespan and digging time |
05:53 |
VanessaE |
an important one is "not_in_creative_inventory = 1", which keeps your node from appearing in the inventory list at the left (in creative mode). |
05:54 |
VanessaE |
this is useful if you want to make say two nodes, but one of them should never be obtainable without placing and doing something to the other node (e.g. punching it) |
05:55 |
VanessaE |
you'll find that there are lots of other groups defined, for example "group:wood" includes everything in the game (and some mods) that consists of a block of wooden planks |
05:55 |
jimbob |
sounds like there's a lot to experiment with then i'll have to try some of these |

and I have 2 suggestions: minetest.swap_node(pos, newname) -> do that instead of hacky_swap_node, better for player formspecs |

2. : minetest.register_on_load(minp, maxp) -> called when a block in loaded |

or even better: minetest.get_loaded_blocks |

not really, no |

it's equally possible that the piece of code that received the commented code's output is itself the defective part. |

Hi there |

thexyz |
just ask your question |
13:04 |
stevez |
I am seeking a simple mod which can add some danger to the minetest world. I have tried animals and mobs, and oddly enough, they both seem to eventually leave my client 'locked'/unable to effect change on things and when I reload, it always goes back in time/state to about 5 minutes before I realized I could not do anything. Any thoughts on that simple mod for .47? |
13:04 |
svuorela |
stevez: oh. I've been quite happy with mobs + zmobs |
13:05 |

hmmmm |
i suppose Fortune's algorithm could work |
15:51 |
hmmmm |
it's an O(n * logn) algorithm, with n being the number of nodes |
15:51 |
nore |
if we set one point every 16 nodes, that makes 1M points |
15:51 |
hmmmm |
the big thing is |
15:52 |
hmmmm |
you require the chunk neighbor's to be already generated for this to work |
15:52 |
nore |
so with an O(n log n) algorithm, it should be doable in reasonable time |
15:52 |
nore |
since we execute this once at map creation, and then store the result |
15:52 |
hmmmm |
if you don't have the information of the other points in the adjacent blocks, they'll get cut off at the chunk boundary |
15:53 |
nore |
or I have another idea: |
15:53 |
hmmmm |
well, nore, even so i'm not going to be the one to implement this :)... i have other things with minetest to do |
15:53 |
hmmmm |
that i still haven't gotten around to |
15:53 |
hmmmm |
really need to get on the ball here |
15:53 |
Yepoleb |
Does anyone else have extremely bad performance when enabling composite? |
15:54 |
nore |
well, that will perhaps be for mapgen v10 ;) |
15:54 |
hmmmm |
yepoleb, maybe that's Xfce's problem |
15:55 |
hmmmm |
compositors are supposed to watch for 3d applications (well, fullscreened only iirc) and disable compositing |
15:55 |
andersje |
Yepoleb: I believe that's a problem on various video chipsets, particularly Intel's integrated stuff |
15:55 |
andersje |
Yepoleb: what's your VGA chipset? |

15:57 |

15:57 |
Yepoleb |

15:58 |

hrm. |
15:58 |

15:58 |

tbh, I run the minetest client on windows, with all my servers on linux |
16:00 |
Yepoleb |
i will try it on gnome |
16:00 |
hmmmm |
what are you trying it with right now? |
16:06 |
andersje |
Calinou: have you ever considered adding trap_glow_glass and trap_super_glow_glass? if I coded those up, would you be willing to add them into your moreblocks mod? |
16:06 |
Calinou |
meh |
16:06 |
Calinou |
they are very easy to do yourself anyway |
16:06 |

VanessaE, it's the semicolon at the end of the first if. If(A)on(B) says code not valid (but it works), if(A)on(B); removes the ability to program the microcontroller. |
16:52 |

AndrOn, try setting a file manually with --logfile |
16:56 |
hmmmm |
jin_xi, ?? what file |
16:57 |
hmmmm |
oh, didn't see turtle, sorry. |
16:58 |
hmmmm |
hmm, that turtle.spawn function assigns the content ids to a table. using a table to store content ids in comparison to storing them in their own local variables decreases performance by 30% as observed by pilzadam |
16:58 |
hmmmm |
in your case you might not be able to help it, if the materials are dynamically assigned |
16:58 |
AndrOn |
I lauched it with a terminal and I have the same lua error |
16:59 |
AndrOn |
then a lot of things followed by "Abandon" |
17:00 |
hmmmm |
your node set loop doesn't need to use indexp either.. kahrl added some sort of iterator function that you should use, or you could increment the position manually if you'd like to do a little additional work |
17:00 |
hmmmm |
other than that it looks fine |
17:01 |
Mossmanikin |
the generated map looks great :) |
17:02 |
jin_xi |
hmmmm: i mean the game i posted above... it uses the turtle, but also uses decorations to find the locations |
17:02 |
jin_xi |
so decos place nodes and on generated finds them and spawns the turtles... |
17:04 |
jin_xi |
Mossmanikin: so you get tetris pieces, shells and candyland stuff generated? and how did you get that error? |
17:05 |

its because i didnt remove/fix that forth tool |
17:06 |
jin_xi |
its not needed for the generation in any way. |

Mossmanikin |
jin_xi: yeah, when I clicked on the run button to look what happens |
17:10 |
babyface1031 |
? how do you take screen shots |
17:11 |
jin_xi |
well, you can use that tool to generate turtle programs and spawn them... |
17:11 |

but i should have removed it from turtle and make it its own thing. |

Well, could you make a texture for the tbm mod? It would be the texture for the tunnel floor node- which the tbm lays undre it as it goes along. It must tile well, look nice and smooth and not ugly, like stonetiles in moreblocks |

But it can't be identical to other nodes, of course, lest they be confused |
