thexyz: what do you mean with this? http://irc.minetest.ru/minetest-dev/2012-12-11#i_2706979 |
11:04 |
jin_xi |
sry to bring back up the old log... |
11:11 |
thexyz |
jin_xi: engine can delete your entities if some limit is exceeded |
11:12 |
thexyz |
jin_xi: this diff disables force deletion, then c55 tells me that this is bad because of entity duplication glitch |
11:14 |
thexyz |
so you should always assume that there may be no entity (even if you created it in the past) |
11:17 |
jin_xi |
but nothing that cant be fixed with a check if its still there and recreating it if not? |
11:18 |
jin_xi |
thanks for the clarification |
11:19 |
thexyz |
yes, I think |
11:19 |
jin_xi |
i was wondering because im thinking of making another mod that needs dynamic textures |
11:19 |
thexyz |
better to somehow tie entity to node, for example, by storing node position in entity |
11:19 |
thexyz |
what is it? |
11:20 |
jin_xi |
i really liked PilzAdams wireworld and wireworld in general |
11:20 |
thexyz |
and store all data in node meta |
11:20 |
thexyz |
because it's persistent |
11:20 |
jin_xi |
so im gonna make a node with a 16x16 grid that simulates that and has a face which shows its state |
11:21 |
thexyz |
oh, yeah, I found this interesting as well |
11:22 |
jin_xi |
so id like to have it in a smaller formfactor and split larger things into nodes with signal connections |
11:22 |
thexyz |
oh, that's great |
11:22 |
thexyz |
now how laggy would it be |
11:22 |
jin_xi |
very much so, but i dont care :P |
11:24 |
thexyz |
you can make nodes, 2×2, and then there will be just 256 different states! |
11:24 |
jin_xi |
and a lookup table |
11:25 |
thexyz |
anyway, how are you going to make sure that all those are processed at the same time? |
11:26 |
Jordach |
jin_xi: even better |
11:26 |
Jordach |
make a small node that creates a 16 node gris |
11:26 |
Jordach |
grid* |
11:26 |
Jordach |
sort of like a projector of kinds (it removes dynamic texture!) |
11:27 |
jin_xi |
thexyz: idk yet |
11:27 |
thexyz |
what's the current state of "painting" btw? |
11:27 |
jin_xi |
Jordach: did you see the small formfactor thing |
11:28 |
jin_xi |
thexyz: its still in the same sorry state i left it, been thinking about relicensing it to WTFPL if thats ok with you |
11:28 |
thexyz |
yeah, I'm fine with it |
11:28 |
jin_xi |
cool |
11:29 |
* Jordach |
has had an idea for a while |
11:29 |
Jordach |
think hologram, and pixel art |
11:29 |
jin_xi |
so it would need to be fixed to what you said above, regarding entities and storing stuff also it lacks some crafting recipes |
11:30 |
jin_xi |
i kinda often fall victim to the 80/20 rule... its mostly there but i did other stuff lately |
11:41 |

12:00 |
sfan5[Mac] |
because the people messed the library dependency handling up when using JNI on android |
12:00 |
sfan5[Mac] |
on iOS however you can just have a native executable and you are done |
12:01 |
sfan5[Mac] |
I didn't even get Irrlicht to run on Android |
12:02 |
PenguinDad |
I'm waiting for Tizen |
12:02 |
thexyz |
well that was a joke anyway |
12:03 |
thexyz |
support for any mobile device is a great opportunity for minetest to gain more attention |
12:03 |
sfan5[Mac] |
because the minetest mobile version will not have reduced features like MCPE? |
12:03 |
thexyz |
yeah |
12:03 |
sfan5[Mac] |
s/the/a/ |
12:03 |
sfan5[Mac] |
and modding support |
12:03 |
thexyz |
but it will be unplayable |
12:04 |
sfan5[Mac] |
but I doubt apple would allow the complete lua feature set (io module) in the App Store |
12:04 |
thexyz |
unless someone implements touch controls |
12:04 |
sfan5[Mac] |
but we'd need $99 for that anyway |
12:04 |
thexyz |
and their appstore is not gpl-compliant |
12:04 |
thexyz |
and 99$ ain't money |
12:04 |
sfan5[Mac] |
Irrlicht has native touch & accerlometer support on iOS |
12:05 |
thexyz |
yes but minetest doesn't |
12:05 |
sfan5[Mac] |
that means to get the GUI working we don't need to do a thing(except redesigning to make it better for mobile devices) |
12:06 |
sfan5[Mac] |
maybe you didn't understand me: Irrlicht translates the touch event to normal clicking events as if you were on a device with mouse |
12:06 |
sfan5[Mac] |
events* |
12:07 |
sfan5[Mac] |
then we would need a way of moving forward |
12:07 |
sfan5[Mac] |
but even without that I could test it on my friends iPad since he has a keyboard for it |
12:07 |
sfan5[Mac] |
s/way of moving forward/touch controls for actions done with keys/ |
12:08 |

sfan5[Mac]: the iPad 2 is probably the lowest spec you should support |
12:08 |
sfan5[Mac] |
Jordach: does it have armv7 processor? |
12:09 |
sfan5[Mac] |
the new iOS SDKs only support ARMv7 |
12:09 |
sfan5[Mac] |
like my old iPod touch 2G, still has ARMv6 |
12:09 |

14:25 |
thexyz |
sfan5[Mac]: I think you should create a pull request after making your changes |
14:26 |
sfan5[Mac] |
thexyz: the changes to minetest will be minimal |
14:26 |
sfan5[Mac] |
I plan on running the main thing in a seperate thread |
14:27 |
sfan5[Mac] |
and it will call wrapper_waitForViewWillAppear(); or while(wrapper_waitForUpdateDisplay()) { /* Rendering code */ } |
14:27 |
thexyz |
in any case they should be in git |
14:27 |
thexyz |
in main repo |
14:27 |
sfan5[Mac] |
these methods will then set the thread to sleep |
14:28 |
sfan5[Mac] |
when the viewWillAppear / updateDisplay event is fired in the other thread it will wake the sleeping thread |
14:29 |
sfan5[Mac] |
so it should just be like 3 or 4 extra lines per use of createDevice() from Irrlicht |
14:29 |
thexyz |
still, do you have any reasons not to have this code in main repo? |
14:29 |
sfan5[Mac] |
do we want ObjC in the main repo? |

at the same time storing files that can be generated automatically isn't necessary either |

Does anyone know of a mod that adds a mining machine that digs vertically down and actually works? |
16:32 |

does the old tunneling machine mod not work? |
16:32 |

(not that I've tried it -- my kids would get up to too much mischief with it) |
16:32 |

The tunneling machine works fine- especially the modified one in camo. |

It has an inventory to store the items, and special slots for rails etc |

20:11 |

20:11 |
VanessaE |
put an appropriate variation of that ^^^^ in your minetest.conf |
20:12 |
Vazon_ |
Yes i have that but it doesnt post it on the list |

then you don't have cURL support in your build |

Vazon_ |
Could you plz explain what that means then |
20:12 |
Vazon_ |
wait i have to have a url set on it? |
20:13 |
VanessaE |
it's a library used to fetch stuff from the web (or in this case, to put stuff on the master server list) |
20:13 |
VanessaE |
if your minetest is not build with support for that library, or if it's too old to support it at all, the public server list and the announce functions will not work. |

You haven't been online that long. You have noo memory of the previous parts of the conversation. |

Now, aboout setting up the server... I need to know wheere I can find the folders where Minetest stores Woorld files, player data files, etc. |
23:37 |
PilzAdam |
SegFault22, do you have a RUN_IN_PLACE version now or the PPA? |
23:37 |
Vazon_ |
Under the worlds files then select the world name then it says players |

in your home directory the hidde folder .minetest contains all this stuff |
23:38 |
PilzAdam |
*hidden |
23:38 |
SegFault22 |
Hiidden folder... |
23:39 |
PilzAdam |
yes, in Linux all files and folders starting with a . are hidden |
23:39 |
PilzAdam |
to show them select "Show hidden files" in your file browser or use ls -a in a terminal |
23:39 |
PilzAdam |
everything else is normal about them |
23:39 |
SegFault22 |
And why is the minetest folder hidden? doesn't that just make it harder for the user to USE the software? |
23:40 |
PilzAdam |
no, thats the common case for user data in Linux |
23:40 |
PilzAdam |
nobody wants his user folder spammed with folders full of config data |
23:41 |
SegFault22 |
Then why not move it all to a sub-folder? |
23:42 |
SegFault22 |
Epiphany or long reply |
23:42 |
SegFault22 |
-.- I'll go trudge through the dark looking for how to view such secret folders... |
23:43 |
PilzAdam |
moving it to a sub folder woul make paths unnecessary long |
23:43 |
PilzAdam |
also the change that noobs fuck up their configs is higher when its not hidden |
23:43 |

what? "secret folders"? |
23:43 |
SegFault22 |
So what if noobs mess up their install? I say ''good riddance''. |

We need more smart people and less noobs. Folders like that, if left un-hidden, will create an automatic noob-filter that would catch and ragequit-away 90% of them |
23:46 |
SegFault22 |
And how is that a bad thing? |
23:46 |
SegFault22 |
Isssue: .minetest folder contains one file: debug.txt - nothing else. Problem, maybe? |
23:47 |
PilzAdam |
just create the needed folders |
23:47 |
SegFault22 |
Which are...? |
23:48 |
PilzAdam |
depends what you want |
23:48 |
SegFault22 |
I see. Do I just throw the .conf in there too? (I pre-maade one for my server) |
23:49 |
PilzAdam |
yes |
23:49 |
SegFault22 |
Ah, thank you. |
23:49 |

mods go into the mod/ folder, worlds go into the worlds/ folder |
23:49 |

I will log-off, to go work on my server's world and stuff, then port it to this computer. |
