Hey. |
06:58 |
VanessaE |
hi |
06:58 |
reactor |
is it possible to make worldedit schemes directly from Minecraft? |
06:58 |
reactor |
I heard its woldedit supports clipboard dumps? |
06:58 |
VanessaE |
why would minecraft be able to write data files usable by minetest? |
06:58 |
VanessaE |
(or by a minetest mod) |
06:59 |
reactor |
there is worldedit for minetest that can read schemes |
06:59 |
VanessaE |
worldedit for minetest uses its own schematic format. |
06:59 |
reactor |
if the schemes are text, I could make them compatible using ed and some free time |
06:59 |
VanessaE |
but I think there's a program somewhere that'll export part of a MC map to a worldedit schem, but it runs outside of either program |
07:01 |
reactor |
there's a filter for mcedit that does so |
07:02 |
reactor |
I'm not very familiar with mcedit, though. And it works terribly in my window manager. |
07:02 |
VanessaE |
no one plays minecraft anyway. it's just a figment of your imagination ;) |

I've seen that one, the mcedit filter. |
07:50 |
sfan5 |
ah, ok |
07:50 |
sfan5 |
you could probably write a bukkit plugin for saving minetest schematics |
07:56 |
reactor |
Oh, I have no time to mess with that. |
07:56 |
reactor |
I would rather dump scheme and convert it into minetest scheme. |
07:56 |

It must be rather trivial, with ed or sed. |
07:57 |

Maybe awk. |

By the way, that python script flips the scheme in one direction, and the developer doesn't even bother to tackle it. |

11:25 |
PilzAdam |
we dont want to be so centralized to mark mods as "official" |
11:26 |

I think the only mod that you could call official is default :P |

people just make what they want, the forum is just a platform to make it easy for them to release a mod |
11:28 |

grab the speedy-gonzales branch of worldedit. that can save schematics directly. you can then spawn them. as long as you don't care too much about details like plain ground for your buildings, it ought to be very easy with place_schematic (see doc/lua_api.txt) |

I was writing the file I/O module (to save/open projects), but got distracted and totally forgot it until now :P |
23:03 |
PilzAdam |
bas080, why dont you use a regular node? |
23:03 |
Peacock |
spiciest ive tried yet http://www.gogonoodles.com/images/instant%20noodles/neoguri_spicy_seafood_udon.JPG |
23:04 |
VanessaE |
idea: have the program export 16px PNG images of all six node faces, something that can be loaded into GIMP and repainted into the actual desired textures |
23:04 |
bas080 |
PilzAdam, that's actually a ok idea |
23:04 |
bas080 |
btw kaeza abd VanessaE, thnx it works now. |
23:04 |
kaeza |
bas080, no probs |
23:04 |
bas080 |
I'm sad that the feature you can see in the screenshots is not available in this version |
23:05 |
bas080 |
It allows for "stretching" by pulling on anchors |
23:05 |
VanessaE |
bas080: resizing the boxed by dragging the anchors works for me? |
23:06 |
VanessaE |
boxes* |
23:06 |
bas080 |
how is that done VanessaE? |
23:06 |
VanessaE |
it ...just works |
23:06 |
VanessaE |
those little white handles are the achors, no? |
23:07 |
VanessaE |
drag them around and the boxes resize accordingly. |
23:08 |
bas080 |
does kaeza's git version have this function? my version does not have anchors. |
23:08 |
VanessaE |
bas080: I'm using the upstream copy, with that last patch kaeza just linked to. |
23:08 |
kaeza |
I forked that 15 mins ago |
23:09 |
kaeza |
it seems to be working |
23:09 |
kaeza |
bas080, note that you cannot drag the resizers beyond -0.5/0.5 |
23:10 |
VanessaE |
kaeza: unless you uncheck Edit -> Limit to Node Size |
23:10 |
VanessaE |
but if you do that, you lose the snap-to-16px feature once you drag outside a node boundary |
23:11 |

23:11 |
kaeza |
ah... that is new :) |
23:11 |
bas080 |
this shows that it does not have the "anchors" |
23:11 |
VanessaE |
bas080: View -> Tiles |
23:12 |
bas080 |
nodebox properties editing does work. VanessaE, i also tried the View -> Tiles. |
23:12 |
bas080 |
and a new project did not make a difference |

bas080, which irrlicht version? |

23:14 |
bas080 |
1.7 |
23:14 |
VanessaE |
the above paste makes this ^^^^ |
23:15 |
bas080 |
VanessaE, nice :) |
23:15 |
VanessaE |
even pilzadam should like it, it's still "boxy" :) |
23:15 |
bas080 |
kaeza, 1.7 |
23:15 |
PilzAdam |
VanessaE, but its not voxely |
23:15 |
kaeza |
I have 1.7.2 |
23:15 |

23:16 |
bas080 |
boxy is good. it should look good with a nice texture which i am more then willing to make. |
23:16 |
VanessaE |
bas080: enjoy :) |
23:16 |
VanessaE |
WTFPL, etc. |
23:16 |
bas080 |
WhyTF not |
23:17 |
VanessaE |
kaeza: you might want to consider always writing a space " " for all positive numbers, so they line up nicely with the negatives in the exported output |
23:18 |
kaeza |
I'll look into that |
23:18 |
bas080 |
kaeza, i'm looking itno updating it. |
23:19 |
kaeza |
g*d |
23:19 |
kaeza |
coding style consistency, anyone heard of that? |
23:20 |
VanessaE |
heh |
23:20 |
kaeza |
that goes to ruben ofc :) |

who? |
23:22 |
Peacock |
substance > style :p |
23:22 |
VanessaE |
bas080: I can simplify that object btw. |
23:22 |
bas080 |
By mirroring it... |
23:22 |
Peacock |
ive seen beautifully styled code that takes a hundred detours to get to it's destination lol |
23:22 |
bas080 |
I think i know what you mean... |

4 well placed boxes is all you need :), thnx VanessaE. |
23:24 |
VanessaE |
no prob. |
23:24 |
VanessaE |
didn't do it that way the first time because I was just kinda playing around |
23:29 |
kaeza |

this pretty sums it up |
23:33 |
VanessaE |
lol |
23:34 |
Peacock |
dangit, swoosh doors jammed open - bet this never happened on enterprise lol |
23:37 |
VanessaE |
heh |
23:38 |
VanessaE |
wake me when we have context-sensitive doors that still stay closed when you approach, but open after the tense/dramatic moment has passed |
23:38 |
VanessaE |
:) |
23:38 |
nalkri |
That's probably thinking doors |
23:39 |
nalkri |
If they have to model entire humans |
23:39 |
Peacock |
the ones that open automatically would require an abm, and ive got enough of those lol |
23:39 |
VanessaE |
nothing wrong with abms as long as your code is fast |
23:40 |
Peacock |
well wherever a punch/right click will do, i tend to use those |
23:40 |
Peacock |
though for doors its the interval required for them to open when people approach, pretty near 1 |
23:40 |
VanessaE |
use a node timer instead |
23:41 |
VanessaE |
make it check for player proximity say 5x/sec or so |
23:41 |
VanessaE |
(if that's possible to do quickly anyway) |
23:41 |
Peacock |
node timers use globalstep, whats the diff with abms in that regard? |
23:41 |
bas080 |
VanessaE, still not sure what that is exactly. Do you know a good example of a mod that uses it? |
23:41 |
VanessaE |
node timers can go faster tham ABMs |
23:42 |
VanessaE |
bas080: I think some mesecons stuff uses them now |
23:42 |
Peacock |
the only thing with rightclick doors is sometimes another piece of door gets place while the door is being opened :/ |
23:43 |
VanessaE |
Peacock: that's a known problem with the on_rightclick handler. you have to explicitly check that the object being clicked has one, and if it has, execute *that* rather than placing the node. |
23:43 |
VanessaE |
it's convoluted. |
23:44 |
Peacock |
one could always limit digging to just tools and reserver left click for functions |
23:44 |
Peacock |
though that breaks the minute you lose your inv |
23:46 |
Peacock |
though just as with rightclick its possible to have a punchnode action that effs up digging so... lol |
23:47 |
Peacock |
i suppose reserve a "use" key would be best |
23:51 |
Peacock |
ah i know why the door jammed: someone teleported away before it could close |
