Hey guys, one question. There's something i can do with that glitched item images when playing with the technic pack? |
00:30 |
Istar_Eldritch |
I actually recompile the bins changing the atlas resolution to 4096 |

Kacey, it was the pipe in the center surrounded by pipe and mesecon that was keeping it from moving |

tube frames and mesecon tube frames |

and mesecon tubes |

There can be a space between a node breaker and a tube, but there can't be a space between a tube and a deployer |

04:47 |
VanessaE |
no |
04:47 |
VanessaE |
just copy the whole plantlife folder as-is into your mods folder. |
04:47 |
Vadtec |
oh |
04:47 |
VanessaE |
it's a modpack, similar to mesecons or technic, so it's self-contained |
04:48 |
Vadtec |
i did that with...some other mod i dont remember...and it bitched and moaned about init.lua not being in the "root" folder |
04:48 |
VanessaE |
Vadtec: because that one was probably either not a modpack, or the folder was not named right. |
04:48 |
VanessaE |
sometimes you'll get a folder named like: Soandso-mymod-374u832542378 |
04:49 |

so you'd rename it to just mymod |

it contains out-of-date copies of plants_lib, junglegrass, and flowers |
04:51 |
OldCoder |
VanessaE, so update plantlife? |
04:51 |

instead just copy the mods from within nature pack that you actually want, and let plantlife/plants_lib supply the API |

hello, I see the "failed to emerge player" error message on the remote server when a client try to connect to the server, what it means please ? |
16:55 |
iqualfragile |
it means that the server was unable to place the player on the map |
16:55 |
mauvebic |
i get that, pretty random |
16:55 |
iqualfragile |
i think it should instantly afterwards try to respawn him near his original location |
16:56 |
mauvebic |
heck sometimes i log in and am attached to another player unable to move lol |
16:56 |
YuGiOhJCJ |
the problem is that the player is unable to join after 8 times this error message is displayed (because of a timeout) |
16:57 |
YuGiOhJCJ |
the client stays on the "Connecting to server..." window |
16:57 |

thats annoying too lol |
16:59 |

that pretty much sums up why i wont upgrade yet lol if a 'stable' version has this many bugs, i dont wanna find out about the devversions lol |

best thing you can do is restart |
17:13 |
celeron55 |
one reason for that is if a client has timed out and tries to connect before the server trusts that it has timed out |
17:13 |
celeron55 |
(there are probably other reasons too) |
17:13 |
mauvebic |
though sometimes i found starting a local map and then connecting to an outside server does the trick |

though thats not for you to do but for the person trying to connect to you |

17:17 |

no it doesn't work... I will try the local map trick ^^ |
17:18 |
YuGiOhJCJ |
no that's the same problem... My 30000 (UDP) port is opened it should work... And I see the sever is reacting when the client try to connect so the problem is not about the firewall... |
17:18 |
mauvebic |
depends |
17:18 |
mauvebic |
1 firewall or two? |
17:18 |
mauvebic |
router + modem? |
17:19 |

it took a while to figure out my modem was also running its own firewall lol |
17:20 |

18:31 |

didn't see a point in doing so |
18:31 |
Calinou |
I found 8GB of them for about 69 euros, with CAS 10 :P |
18:31 |
VanessaE |
nice |
18:31 |
Calinou |
there's also two at 57 euros, but CAS 11 |
18:32 |
Calinou |
higher CAS is worse ;) |
18:32 |
VanessaE |
I remember, not that long ago, when half a meg would cost you $200 |
18:32 |
VanessaE |
wow times have changed. |
18:32 |
Calinou |
the price of 8GB of 1333mhz RAM is 40-45 euros, so faster RAM is more expensive but worth it |
18:32 |
Calinou |
there's like a 5-15% difference in application speed between 1333mhz and 2400mhz ;) |
18:33 |
Calinou |
and it's better for overclocking the CPU too |
18:33 |
VanessaE |
hence the reason I went with the slower stuff :D |

2.6 GHz in 6 cores seemed like a better investment given the way I use my machine |

the AMD would win in that limited scenario because it, as I understand, performs a bit better per MHz than Intel chips do, but of course you pay for it in power usage |

18:37 |

also, if we compare a fx-8350 to an i7-3770K, or even the i5-3570K, the latter has better overclocking margin for similar temperatures (and less power used) |
18:37 |
VanessaE |
this particular chip won out, at the time |
18:37 |

the fx-8320 can be made into a fx-8350, or better by overclocking too |

VanessaE |
VadtecWk: not quite |
20:19 |
MiJyn |
VanessaE, but the engine doesn't support logo, does it? |
20:19 |
VanessaE |
MiJyn: the spawn_tree() function uses the L-Systems method |
20:19 |
VanessaE |
which is basically 3D LOGO but with a different syntax. |
20:20 |
VanessaE |
moretrees uses that function to make its trees |
20:20 |
MiJyn |
right |
20:20 |
MiJyn |
ok |
20:20 |
MiJyn |
I see |
20:21 |
MiJyn |
sort of harder to read though, isn't it? |
20:21 |
VadtecWk |
the geek in me wants to google all this |
20:21 |
VadtecWk |
but if i do |
20:21 |
VadtecWk |
i will be consumed by it for 3-4 days |
20:21 |
VadtecWk |
and i cant afford that lol |
20:21 |
VanessaE |
angle=45; FFFF++F&F would be roughly equivalent to: FORWARD 4: RIGHT 90: FORWARD 1: PITCH +45: FORWARD 1 |
20:21 |
MiJyn |
haha yeah |
20:21 |
VadtecWk |
to much money making work to do |
20:21 |
MiJyn |
VanessaE, see? much harder to read |
20:21 |
VanessaE |
VadtecWk: there is this interesting concept called "free time" which usually occurs outside of work ;-) |
20:21 |
VanessaE |
MiJyn: perhaps, but far more compact |
20:22 |
MiJyn |
yeah of course |
20:22 |
MiJyn |
except if you do: FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF.... (forward 100) |
20:22 |
VanessaE |
and this is how L-Systems has been done since the 1960's :-) |
20:22 |
VadtecWk |
VanessaE, im currently working on 3 contracts, what little free time i get is usually sleep deprived...not my best time to be reading about complex graphic stuff |
20:22 |
FreeFull |
L-Systems use rewrite rules, right? |
20:22 |
VanessaE |
FreeFull: yep |
20:23 |
VanessaE |
so when you put "A" in a rule or axiom, rule A is inserted into its place at runtime |
20:23 |
VanessaE |
including if "A" appears inside of Rule A's definition |
20:23 |
VadtecWk |
how the hell does that work... |
20:23 |
VadtecWk |
infinite recurssion anyone? |
20:23 |
VadtecWk |
lol |
20:24 |
MiJyn |
sure! xD |
20:24 |
VanessaE |
VadtecWk: limited recursion |
20:24 |
|
david___ joined #minetest |
20:24 |
VanessaE |
first the rule/axiom is parsed with the "A" in place, then the contents of "A" are inserted. |
20:24 |
VanessaE |
the result is executed |
20:24 |
VadtecWk |
i get how it works lol |
20:24 |
VadtecWk |
but man that scares me |
20:24 |
VanessaE |
then the code is evaluated again, and rule A is substituted again everywhere it occurs - for as many iterations as you specify |
20:25 |
VadtecWk |
a graphical fork bomb...thats novel |
20:25 |
VadtecWk |
:P |
20:25 |
VanessaE |
haha |
20:25 |
jin_xi |
or you can just generate long axioms: http://i.imgur.com/3lUZcRx.png |
20:25 |
VanessaE |
only if you set iterations to some really huge value |
20:25 |
VanessaE |
jin_xi: NICE hack! |
20:26 |
VadtecWk |
its more the concept of being able to graphically fork bomb something that scares me |
20:26 |
VadtecWk |
i can do it on the cmd line easy |
20:26 |
VadtecWk |
but to do it in graphics...thats a skill i dont have |
20:26 |
VadtecWk |
...yet |
20:26 |
VadtecWk |
:P |
20:26 |
VanessaE |
VadtecWk: OH no in this case there's no forking |
20:26 |
MiJyn |
oh, won't take that much time to learn how |
20:26 |
MiJyn |
I can teach you :P |
20:26 |
MiJyn |
(out of experience :/) |
20:26 |
VadtecWk |
lol |
20:26 |
VanessaE |
can't really call it a fork bomb if the code is evaluated linearally |
20:27 |
MiJyn |
I think he's referring to a "recursion bomb" or something |
20:27 |
VadtecWk |
rephrase: raping the machines memory :P |
20:27 |
VadtecWk |
fork bomb, recurssion bomb, infinite loop |
20:27 |

you get the idea |
20:27 |

VadtecWk |

20:27 |
MiJyn |
what's why I hate using 'while (1)' s xD |
20:28 |
VadtecWk |
do ... while 1=1 |
20:28 |
VanessaE |
VadtecWk: right, which in this case is only possible if you request a huge number of iterations (you have to explicitly tell the code how many or it'll asume 1) |
20:28 |
MiJyn |
even if I use: 'bool cond = true; while (cond)' it makes me feel safer :) |
20:28 |
VanessaE |
assume* |
20:28 |
MiJyn |
VadtekWk, well, while 1 = 1, first of all, will give an error (replace it by while (1 == 1)), and second, why not juse use while(1)? |
20:28 |

iterations=Math.pow(2,1024); |

20:29 |

that'll just make the game crash I'm sure :-) |
20:29 |
VadtecWk |
MiJyn, typo, i mean 1 == 1 |
20:29 |
VanessaE |
why not just, while true; do xxxx; done/end/whatever |
20:29 |
MiJyn |
yeah xD |
20:29 |

it's very similar to what mauvebics mtcities does, though diffrent in detail. it takes a few hand-build houses, rotates them randomly and replaces the wood with that of the nearby tree |

rotation and material swapping isn't different tho :P just the houses seem to be |

my fps is always more or less bad. 15 fps seem fine for most building purposes. if i fly around in a world with moretrees, animals and lots of other nice things or move around on fast...well...then that's usually too much. also playing on fast is mostly too much. my grapics card is...the bare minimum |

I have a quick optimization question (I'm fairly new to this game and have only done light modifications): I have a mid range machine that runs most commercial games at the highest settings. I think I have a setting mixed up because I can run the game at 60 FPS vsync'd, then all of a sudden my framerate will randomly drop to 30 and I can't get it to return to 60 no matter what I do. Any ideas? |

Well, it tends to start when I load new chunks, which it to be expected, but even when I have those new chunks off screen and out of the viewing range (set at 50) it still persists as being slow |

That makes sense, but the other thing that I find odd, I did a test where I flew very high with the viewing range maxed, the framerate dropped to about 9 or so. considering the tremendous amount of information loaded, I completely understand that. However, when I return after that to ground level with the view distance lowered to a more normal range, I usually go back up to around 55. It literally tends to vary by map |
