00:01 |
blah_craft_ |
lucky |
00:01 |
Kacey |
haha |
00:01 |
Kacey |
not really |
00:02 |
blah_craft_ |
honestly i think if weed were 100% legal here, i wouldn't smoke any more than I already do, which is very rarely |
00:02 |
Kacey |
i almost get ran over by druggiees |
00:05 |
blah_craft_ |
quick question about the minetest wiki - there's a little section under ""gameplay" that gives some basic recipes... are there more recipes than that? |
00:06 |
blah_craft_ |
forgive me for asking common knowledge... i just came across minetest this morning |
00:07 |
mauvebic |
eventually theyre gonna legalize drugs if only to balance the budget through tax revenues |
00:07 |
mauvebic |
you end up having to treat addicts weather its legal or not anyhow |
00:08 |
blah_craft_ |
it sure looks that way but I'm not holding my breath |
00:08 |
blah_craft_ |
good point too |
00:08 |
marktraceur |
blah_craft_: Yes, there are a *lot* of recipes, because we can add them through mods. Most mods (IIRC) aren't documented at the main wiki |
00:08 |
blah_craft_ |
oh ok - thx |
00:09 |
mauvebic |
isnt california having a hard time housing inmates too? |
00:09 |
blah_craft_ |
lol. yep - i think schwarzanegger pardoned a bunch of ppl years ago but I don't know what effect that had, if any |
00:10 |
blah_craft_ |
there's a lot of problems in cali but i'm moving out of cali next year anyway |
00:11 |
marktraceur |
mauvebic: I heard a story about a federal prison in California |
00:11 |
marktraceur |
mauvebic: They had an execution room that was some size, I don't remember the dimensions exactly |
00:11 |
mauvebic |
its ironic they wont discuss legalizing drugs but having a public debate about euthanizing old folks is ok lol |
00:12 |
blah_craft_ |
lol |
00:12 |
marktraceur |
mauvebic: Anyway, they spent millions building this room, and then a District Court judge came to visit and said "Eh, it's not big enough". |
00:12 |
mauvebic |
cali has executions? |
00:12 |
marktraceur |
So they're required to make it bigger or risk having cases overturned on cruel and unusual punishment grounds |
00:12 |
marktraceur |
mauvebic: At least in the federal prisons, yeah |
00:12 |
marktraceur |
mauvebic: The federal government has no qualms about executing federal offenders |
00:13 |
kaeza |
I wish I could delete annoying posts from my topics... |
00:14 |
mauvebic |
if my gov't wanted to get rid of someone they'd probably have it done by a foreign gov't when said citizen went overseas |
00:14 |
mauvebic |
ironic how capital (and your job) can move freely through borders but you cant lol |
00:15 |
mauvebic |
then again who wants to follow the jobs to china or india and be paid what they are paid |
00:18 |
blah_craft_ |
cost of living is lower there too. the trick is to get a high paying job in a big city and convince them to let you work remotely and live somehwere with a very low cost of living |
00:19 |
mauvebic |
that comes in trends too |
00:19 |
mauvebic |
every few years they realize they can save money by having people work from home |
00:19 |
mauvebic |
every other few years they realize its better to have everyone inhouse for pointless meetings and powerpoint presentations |
00:20 |
Kacey |
does pipeworks have an api? |
00:20 |
Kacey |
i want to make an extension on it |
00:21 |
mauvebic |
my experimental one has some sort of an API |
00:21 |
mauvebic |
cant say for sure about master |
00:21 |
telek |
Hey, is it possible to make animated weapons, similiar to the animated torches? |
00:21 |
* Kacey |
forgot mauvebic worked on pipeworks |
00:22 |
Kacey |
since they are only held, no |
00:22 |
telek |
Wait 'Mauve Bic'... You're a tan lighter? |
00:22 |
mauvebic |
it used to be purplebic before the sex change |
00:23 |
blah_craft_ |
mauve is purple bro |
00:23 |
telek |
Erm purple :D |
00:23 |
mauvebic |
lol i am joking |
00:23 |
telek |
Well I just reasserted my straight maleness at least :D |
00:23 |
blah_craft_ |
dang it - i walked straight into that one |
00:24 |
telek |
Lol, sorry blah :D |
00:24 |
mauvebic |
actually for a white guy i have a pretty barry white-ish voice |
00:24 |
blah_craft_ |
no worries - I am very secure in my sexuality. If you try to challenge that, things could get real gay, real quick |
00:25 |
mauvebic |
i only scream like a woman when im surprised/frightened |
00:25 |
blah_craft_ |
lol |
00:25 |
mauvebic |
but ive noticed thats most men lol |
00:27 |
blah_craft_ |
ever seen the video on youtube - "no homo goes too far"? |
00:27 |
mauvebic |
doesnt ring a bell |
00:27 |
mauvebic |
youtube keeps proposing all these conspiracy videos |
00:27 |
mauvebic |
just because i looked up that 'strange hum/noise" thing from last year |
00:28 |
mauvebic |
i hate personalized results - it gives the same videos over and over and rarely what im actually looking for lol |
00:28 |
blah_craft_ |
lol. my netflix keeps suggesting all these crappy chic-flics cause my wife likes to watch those when I'm at work |
00:29 |
mauvebic |
well they cancelled Boss this year |
00:29 |
mauvebic |
and renewed mad men which had a god awful season |
00:30 |
mauvebic |
walking dead was good the first season |
00:31 |
mauvebic |
and im waiting for berman and bragga to retire so they can make a decent star trek |
00:31 |
blah_craft_ |
until they started doing split seasons - i heard it's coming back next week for the second half of the season though |
00:31 |
blah_craft_ |
it's like not quite enuogh to get a good fix |
00:31 |
mauvebic |
i wouldnt want to be a UK resident though - i hear TV license people harass citizens who dont buy their stupid licenses ( i have no cable anymore lol) |
00:32 |
blah_craft_ |
what do u mean? this is new to me |
00:32 |
mauvebic |
BBC/TV licensing? |
00:33 |
mauvebic |
where do you live? |
00:33 |
blah_craft_ |
in the US, CA |
00:33 |
mauvebic |
they pay a tax over there just to have a TV |
00:33 |
blah_craft_ |
what kind of rackett r u talkign about now? |
00:33 |
mauvebic |
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_licence |
00:34 |
mauvebic |
no one here would ever pay more to be subjected to loader and longer commercials lol |
00:35 |
mauvebic |
*louder |
00:35 |
blah_craft_ |
oh now i see - yes our commercials are way out of hand |
00:35 |
mauvebic |
and buying a dvd doesn't solve anything - youre forced to watch previews for half an hour lol |
00:36 |
blah_craft_ |
i take those ones back |
00:36 |
blah_craft_ |
just on principle |
00:37 |
mauvebic |
well after replacing my dvd player for xxth time a few years ago i said it fuck it |
00:37 |
telek |
Out of curiousity, has anyone run minetest on a platform other than x86/amd64/arm? |
00:37 |
mauvebic |
just when i thought i was done building up my dvd collection, hd=dvd and bluray came out too lol so double-fuck-it |
00:38 |
mauvebic |
beta/vhs/dvd/hdvd/ its all a big racket to get you to buy the same crap over and over |
00:38 |
blah_craft_ |
^ that |
00:38 |
blah_craft_ |
and they wonder why everyone pirates |
00:39 |
mauvebic |
well its like OS's getting bloatier and bloatier to force people to buy a new computer |
00:40 |
mauvebic |
what they dont say is how much of the pirated stuff people have owned in one format or another over the years... |
00:40 |
mauvebic |
and its not like we haven't been there with VCRs lol |
00:41 |
telek |
Or the fact that they wouldn't have valuable IP to claim against us if not for the hundreds or thousands of years of now-public domain work which they pillaged for ideas, but to which they no longer feel a need to contribute? :D |
00:41 |
telek |
Oh, and y'know our forefathers allowing them copyright in the first place :D |
00:41 |
mauvebic |
thats because we dont sell quality products anymore, we sell knowledge |
00:42 |
mauvebic |
knowledge = power is 20th century |
00:42 |
mauvebic |
knowledge = money is 21st |
00:42 |
blah_craft_ |
what's 22nd going to be? |
00:43 |
mauvebic |
its hard to predict what the economy will look like in ten years |
00:43 |
telek |
Knowledge=3d printing schematics? :D |
00:44 |
mauvebic |
not just 3d printing /personal manufacturing |
00:44 |
blah_craft_ |
i like it |
00:44 |
mauvebic |
robots are becoming cheap enough to take away even the low wage jobs |
00:44 |
blah_craft_ |
back to the UKs licensign thing... how do they even catch license evasion? |
00:44 |
telek |
It's not just robots. |
00:44 |
telek |
It's also specialized computer software. |
00:45 |
telek |
OCR, Voice Recognition/Knowledgebase systems. |
00:45 |
mauvebic |
software is getting rid of alot of ancillery jobs |
00:45 |
mauvebic |
*ancillary? |
00:45 |
mauvebic |
yeah 2nd one |
00:45 |
telek |
Pretty soon they won't need entry level tech support jobs because they'll have something like watson calmly talking the customer through fixing their computer. |
00:45 |
mauvebic |
and even programmers aren't immune - eventually computers will write better code than people |
00:46 |
telek |
mauvebic: They'll never write better code than people. |
00:46 |
telek |
For one simple reason: Falliable developers can not devise infalliable systems :D |
00:46 |
dzho |
this is heavily dependent on your definition of "better" |
00:46 |
telek |
Well open-ended ones anyways :D |
00:47 |
mauvebic |
i had an interest in vrml and neural systems in the 90s, theyve come a long way |
00:47 |
mauvebic |
in effect the gov't isn't "watching" us per say, software filters all the raw data and flags the suspicious bits |
00:48 |
mauvebic |
they couldn't hire enough people to eyeball every camera |
00:48 |
telek |
Indeed. |
00:48 |
mauvebic |
some countries they pay surfers to watch cameras and report crimes |
00:48 |
telek |
But once they can identify individuals it opens up the possibility of persecution. |
00:48 |
mauvebic |
weve had persecution without computers |
00:49 |
telek |
Yeah, but now if you decide some day you don't like someone there's potentially a body of evidence there for you to hang them without having to wait and gather it after deciding such. |
00:49 |
telek |
And perhaps cooling your head in the meantime. |
00:50 |
mauvebic |
"body of evidence" requires a crime to have taken place |
00:51 |
telek |
And do you have a firm enough grasp on every law in your country to such a degree that you're sure you haven't infringed any for which you could be convicted? |
00:51 |
mauvebic |
as politicians will attest, the trick is not getting caught |
00:52 |
telek |
Or knowing the right people to get the charges dropped. |
00:54 |
telek |
.... |
00:54 |
mauvebic |
the worse thats happenned to me was 1K$ tickets (i was drunk and slightly obstreperous) |
00:54 |
telek |
10k here now. |
00:55 |
mauvebic |
10K in tickets? |
00:55 |
telek |
I think it's actually 6k ticket plus all the court fees, but yeah. |
00:55 |
|

00:55 |
mauvebic |
i dont go to court |
00:55 |
mauvebic |
i contest yes, |
00:55 |
mauvebic |
that gives me 3 years to come up with the scratch |
00:55 |
blah_craft_ |
I did get a DUI when I was 19 - I can tell you first hand, when u add alll the costs, it is well over 7,500 |
00:55 |
mauvebic |
and i pay it before the deadline to court |
00:56 |
mauvebic |
theyre gonna start seizing vehicles for that here (good) |
00:56 |
mauvebic |
we have problems with repeat offenders |
00:57 |
mauvebic |
and ive always been a pedestrian/bus/metro person so, +100 |
00:57 |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjoSIBAWBHc sfan5|off will appriciate |
00:58 |
mauvebic |
though im real careful with that now because tickets and student debts are the only things you cant discharge through bankruptcy here |
00:58 |
blah_craft_ |
yep, part of that cost was 1,800 to get my truck out after 30-day impound |
00:59 |
blah_craft_ |
try holding a field-services job without a license |
01:00 |
* telek |
nods. |
01:00 |
telek |
Mechanics job :D |
01:00 |
telek |
I've met at least three people with pulled licenses working as mechanics, and only one of them lost a job over it. |
01:01 |
telek |
One of the others was working for a dealership no less. |
01:01 |
mauvebic |
yeah no i dont take travellin' jobs with the winters we have here lol |
01:02 |
telek |
Nah, that's at the shop :) |
01:02 |
blah_craft_ |
basically - that was the worst decision i ever made and you will not catch me doing it again |
01:02 |
telek |
But it means they can't test drive, pull cars in, etc. Some places they can't even be insured to work on-premises. |
01:02 |
* telek |
nods. |
01:02 |
mauvebic |
i tend not to mouth off to cops unless theyre just looking to hand out tickets for whatever, and ive gotten some funky ones |

01:06 |

01:07 |

Dunno, seems like plenty of corporate types are giving them a run for their money. |
01:07 |

the pee-er was giving the cleaner something to do, and the drug dealers were giving the doctors something to do |
01:07 |
blah_craft_ |
you were giving the leo somethign to do |
01:07 |

I personally thing it's a broad cultural shift rather than problems with specific groups, at least nowadays. |
01:07 |

NekoGloop, I think you can do it with minetest.env:get_node_light() |
02:11 |
NekoGloop |
kaeza: The importance of this, if you're wondering, is a random chest generation procedure. |
02:11 |
NekoGloop |
It would produce chests only in areas where the light is below a certain level. |
02:12 |
kaeza |
seems good |
02:12 |
kaeza |
that function should do the work |

NekoGloop, What about some areas have really dense ore amounts. Let's call them mines. I know there has been allot of discussion on this topic. I'm not sure myself but you could ad it for dessert coal or something else just to test if it works for the gameplay. Other ideas are explosive ores. Don't punch the ore or it will explode! Very rare and only between certain narrow heights(to not make it to annoying). |

in this case "experimental" means i'm not yet convinced this is stable, but it hasn't crashed in the couple of hours it's been under test. |
04:49 |
VanessaE |
anyway if you wanna stick to the stable stuff, just update Home Decor ( https://github.com/VanessaE/homedecor ) |
04:50 |
VanessaE |
I rewrote all of the doors' code to condense into two files with the help of some loops, and made them respond to right click to open, if the user's version of Minetest supports it. |
04:50 |
VanessaE |
(else they punch to open) |

there was also a bugfix to plantlife but nothing that you need to worry about. |

EnvRef::get_perlin_map() is looking pretty good, rev up your mods for some super fast perlin noise! |
06:54 |
hmmmm |
:)!! |
06:54 |
hmmmm |
sorry it took so long to get to this point |
06:55 |
VanessaE |
how does that differe from perlin....:get2d() ? |
06:56 |
hmmmm |
it uses my perlin noise functions |
06:56 |
hmmmm |
which makes it literally over 80x faster |
06:56 |
hmmmm |
which means you can use perlin noise less sparingly in mods |
06:56 |
VanessaE |
ah |
06:57 |
hmmmm |
it's not going to be worth much without a 'get' analog to PlizAdam's set_node_range |
06:57 |
hmmmm |
i suppose |
06:57 |
hmmmm |
what i really want to do is scrap that altogether and work on a VoxelManipulator interface with lua |
07:00 |
kaeza |
is there any way to create a player entity from Lua? |
07:00 |
VanessaE |
while you're at it, could you extend remove_node() so that it can take minp, maxp and rapidly clear out the specified cube? |
07:00 |
hmmmm |
i don't think so |
07:01 |
hmmmm |
vanessa, how is that different from set_node_range with the air node? |
07:01 |
kaeza |
I've seen that it is posible to :remove() the entities representing players |
07:01 |
kaeza |
effectively making players "inviisible" |
07:01 |
VanessaE |
set_node_range? |
07:01 |
VanessaE |
*looks at api* |
07:01 |
hmmmm |
it's not in there yet |
07:02 |
hmmmm |
oh sorry |
07:02 |

07:02 |
VanessaE |
ah |
07:02 |

yes that's just what I was thinking of. |
07:03 |
hmmmm |
minetest.env:set_nodes({{minp=p1, maxp=p2, node = {name="default:air"}}) would be an alias for your remove |
07:03 |

in which case, I take back my request. :-) |

22:37 |

22:37 |
OldCoder |
kaeza, Short on time. What does that say? |
22:37 |
sokomine |
i do not agree with the logfiles of who did place/dig which block when beeing publicly visible. there is no way to reach consensus there. either you make it more hidden (developers, modders and players can have a look at it if they need it for development) |
22:37 |
sokomine |
..or i have to leave the server :-( |

22:40 |
OldCoder |

22:40 |
OldCoder |

but I have no problems if you are against installing it |
22:43 |
VanessaE |
I have no opinion about the logs thing. |
22:43 |
sokomine |
the excerpt that is shown may be of limited help against griefers. maybe you can add an interface where people could enter coordinates (or a region) and see who last modified which blocks there. that would actually be more helpful and be less critical |
22:43 |
sapier |
anti-grief is planed for mobf 2.1 |

I don't get it. What does MOBF have to do with griefing? |
22:44 |
sokomine |
and yes, regarding griefing, i regulary call cactuz_pl on redcrabs server when i notice places where someone has griefed something. but that is diffrent from showing who did exactly what at which time to everyone |
22:45 |
VanessaE |
sorry to say but the video quality is terrible. it's all blurry, mpeg artifacts everywhere |

22:48 |

yes, i've suggested to build something into the animals to prevent stealing (which might occour on some servers). yet that does not mean that i agree to all my activities beeing shown online and serchable via google |
22:48 |
kaeza |
OldCoder, another option would be to patch the money mod on the server. Users can take away items from the shop's inventory without buying. |
22:49 |
sapier |
mobf won't log anti grief it'll just prevent it |

OldCoder |
k, animals updated... |
22:50 |
OldCoder |

that they show who did what when -> violation of privacy |

22:55 |

22:58 |
sokomine |
especially if there are only some players online those might expect that they can talk amongst themshelves. if something occours that needs intervention by a mod (griefing, technical problem, severe spamming/insults/...), the moderator can look at the logfile. it is the job of whoever appoints the moderator to make sure that that person knows how to handle things - that is, do the job, but gain no further advantage from it or publis |

for me - no. time+name+what digged is too much for public viewing. but i may stop from visiting the servers now that i know. but i'd expect there to be a visible hint on the website that there are extensive publicly viewable logs so that people may decide weather they want to play under those conditions or not |
