!tell IhrFussel, 5.0.0 will have a good official MT app, better than any forked app, good chance to move players onto it. "the 3rd-party apps don't intend to upgrade at release" they probably will. also, many servers are desperate for CSM restrictions |

rubenwardy, I seem to be having trouble adding texture packs to contentdb |
21:41 |
rubenwardy |
What specifically? |
21:42 |
tumeninodes |
everytime I go to add new content, the page goes right to VCS Repository URL page and keeps stating it is unable to detect what sort of pckg |
21:43 |
rubenwardy |
Is it on git? |
21:43 |
rubenwardy |
If not, leave that blank |
21:43 |
tumeninodes |
yes, |
21:43 |
rubenwardy |
What URL are you giving? |
21:43 |
tumeninodes |
https://github.com/TumeniNodes/16px-ambiguity |
21:43 |
rubenwardy |
Ah, it may be because of the - |
21:44 |
tumeninodes |
well I just literally added that |
21:44 |
tumeninodes |
after trying a couple times |
21:44 |
tumeninodes |
because it mentions doing so in the guidelines in the help section |

Ah, I know why |
21:47 |
rubenwardy |
Leave the repo field blank for now and click next |
21:47 |
rubenwardy |
You'll then see a full form where you can fill it in manually |
21:47 |
tumeninodes |
yep, that's what I'm doing right now |
21:47 |
rubenwardy |
And add the repo field again |
21:47 |
rubenwardy |
Cool |
21:48 |
tumeninodes |
just thought I'd mention it as the program seems unable to read TPs from a repo |
21:48 |
tumeninodes |
or decipher what they are |
21:49 |
rubenwardy |
Yeah, it's because TPs don't have an equivalent to init.lua or modpack.txt |
21:52 |
tumeninodes |
hmmm, |
21:53 |
tumeninodes |
might be nice to also add an option for "mixed free" to the media license drop down choices |
21:54 |
tumeninodes |
I know there is "other free" but, mixed would be nice too |
21:55 |
rubenwardy |
It's best to just choose the most restrictive license |
21:55 |
tumeninodes |
? |
21:56 |
tumeninodes |
did you drop this 'un' ? |
21:58 |
T4im |
he probably means taking the most restrictive one among the mixed ones and categorize it under that |
21:59 |
tumeninodes |
ahhh, possibly |
21:59 |
T4im |
the "MIT licensed, except that one file,.. not even the author is allowed to edit that one" would then be proprietary |
22:06 |
ChimneySwift |
LOL not even the author can edit XDD |
22:45 |
tumeninodes |
heh, I should probably finish my other TPs so I can add them as well :P |

What T4im said |
23:13 |
rubenwardy |
Another example: if there's lgpl things and MIT things, put lgpl |
23:13 |
rubenwardy |
So it's in either direction |
23:14 |
rubenwardy |
I'm not sure how legally ok this is |
23:14 |
Jordach |
cross that bridge when you get there |
23:15 |
tumeninodes |
yeh, I'm not sure either. Since the default textures for MTG all fall under various licenses... I feel stating a 'mix of free licenses' is the proper channel but that's just me |
23:18 |
tumeninodes |
not sure about the situation used as an example either... Parts of MIT can be floated into LGPL, but not the other way around... so if the 2 are mixed, makes me think MIT is supposed to take precedence, at least from a legal standpoint, regardless of any individual's feelings that lgpl is a better license |
23:19 |
T4im |
lgpl restricts your right more than MIT, which is very permissive |
23:21 |
tumeninodes |
what I meant is, regardless of any personal feelings on the matter... from a legal standpoint, MIT should probably be the one listed, if both are used. (if only one option is avail) |
23:23 |
T4im |
from a legal standpoint, mit is restricting you less than lgpl |
23:23 |
* T4im |
just keeps saying the same thing, too |
23:23 |
T4im |
:p |
23:24 |
paramat |
MTG textures are mostly CC BY-SA and we try to keep as many as possible as that licence |
23:24 |
T4im |
look at it this way.. we put you in prison and you are allowed to vote.. would you categorize yourself as free or not-free? |
23:24 |
tumeninodes |
wait... did I say that wardsback??? "Parts of MIT can be floated into LGPL, but not the other way around..." :P I can't remember now |
23:25 |
tumeninodes |
right but, just because they are 'mostly', does not mean that it should just be considered that they 'all' are |
23:27 |
tumeninodes |
so, if I take all the default textures, and make some technical tweaks, as in setting them all to greyscale, this is not something I consider my own, as no actual talent is required (just time) it is still the same textures. |
23:28 |
tumeninodes |
so, if I then release said TP and just place it all under CC BY-SA, I am in fact violating the terms of the other licenses in use throughout the TP |
23:28 |
T4im |
well if you combined gpl+mit you are even required to consider the whole thing gpl due to the additional restriction |
23:29 |
T4im |
you sort by restriction, because you are assuming that the restrictive part is the more relevant one.. the bottleneck |
23:30 |
T4im |
when you are in prison it doesn't matter if you are allowed to fly free on any airline you choose, because you simply can't use all those additional options |
23:30 |
* T4im |
will only get sillier in examples |
23:30 |
tumeninodes |
and that may work fine related to those two, but the fact is, media licenses are completely different. |
23:31 |
tumeninodes |
T4im seems to be missing or curious about prison :D |
23:31 |
T4im |
:D well, add a NC and you make it more restrictive, now you can't distribute the whole commerically anymore |
23:31 |
T4im |
without stepping on the more restrictive license-toes |
23:32 |
tumeninodes |

23:33 |

I'm going to draw up a license which does not even allow someone to look at art they bought... it has to be hung by others... facing the wall... backside/out ;) |
23:34 |
tumeninodes |
maybe they should not even be allowed to have the artwork in their possession... just to be ultra restrictive... kinda like Ferrari does to it's high end customers :D |
23:34 |
tumeninodes |
I will call it the "UltraNO' license |
23:34 |
T4im |
hehe |
