Thanks sofar... I have an awesome piece of hardware running a minetest game in one VM with a postgresql backend in another VM... Looking for someone who has time to moderate, build, and kinda watch over things... you may even earn ssh status if you prove to be helpful... message me personally if interested |

So many people creating new servers just for the sake of it and not actually wanting to have one |
00:07 |
Megaf |
yet many good servers are dying of because lack of players and intereset from players |

Yeah, I love the game... it's a time manage issue for me... I mainly set it up for my son... he's too into minecraft and it pisses me off... he's just a little young/immature to be a moderator himself... |

so many servers, so little time to play (maybe I should chat less and play more?) |

paramat: hm, i'm sure a feature like "clickable links" would be welcomed by many players and server admins. still - most of what was said in the thread is also true. it has to be safe, has to actually be implemented by someone. and maybe copying to clipboard is really enough. that copying never really worked for me. perhaps with newer versions or additional mods |
00:15 |
Sokomine |
there will always be conflicts. but in general it seems to work fine here :-) |
00:16 |

00:17 |
Sokomine |
Megaf: that's very true! there are a lot of good servers out there. they deserve more players |
00:17 |

I actually stumbled over minetest when I was searching for a 3D world to simulate smoke. it was the more-trees mod the really pulled me in though - never did that smoke plume simulator |

Let the smoke flow through you |

00:28 |

DO IT |
00:29 |
twoelk |
nah, way beyond my abbilities and will to devote enough time for that - although nothing really convincing has been done yet. |
00:30 |
twoelk |
I mean to simulate smoke to design emergency concepts - not holywood type smoke |
00:30 |
benrob0329 |
Ah |
00:32 |
* twoelk |
is so glad he isn't involved in the berlin airport building scandals of not working smoke extraction systems |
00:32 |
lisac |
twoelk: make air expand like a liquid |
00:32 |
lisac |
then make smoke overwrite it |
00:32 |
lisac |
so you need to eliminate the source |
00:32 |
lisac |
and air will slowly reclaim it |
00:33 |
lisac |
and of course, make smoke damage player per sec |
00:33 |

01:03 |
Megaf |
How can I adopt a PR? |
01:09 |
sofar |
make a new PR with the same content, but fixed up, stating that you're taking over the old PR |
01:11 |
paramat |
make a new branch for your PR, navigate to that directory in terminal, then .. |
01:11 |
paramat |
wget https://github.com/minetest/minetest/pull/1234.patch |
01:11 |
paramat |
git am 1234.patch |
01:11 |
paramat |
i think |
01:12 |
paramat |
should apply the changes to your branch |
01:12 |
sofar |
you can simplify that, even |
01:12 |
sofar |
curl -L https://github.com/minetest/minetest/pull/1234.patch | git am |
01:12 |
sofar |
but, sure |
01:12 |
sofar |
however, that is the hard way |
01:12 |
sofar |
since it will probably fail to am |
01:13 |
paramat |
oh yeah |
01:13 |
sofar |
better is to fetch the branch from the PR from the submitters' remote |
01:13 |
paramat |
if conflicts |
01:13 |
sofar |
then rebase that |
01:13 |
sofar |
still a lot of work |
01:13 |
Megaf |
There's a PR that just needs rebase |
01:13 |

I will just edit by hand the code... |

The funny side-effect of the raised object properties version is that you can punch (and hurt) yourself when using a different version than the server |
12:03 |
Krock |
so there's an unknown object underneath that tracks you, but which is actually the player self |

Krock, very strange, how this can affect client ? very old properties ? |
13:27 |
sfan5 |
nerzhul: paramats commit dropped support for all previous ObjectProperties versions |
13:28 |
sfan5 |
so the client doesn't understand that the object is actually the local player itself |
13:28 |
Krock |
^ that. Clients can still connect but errors will income in-game |
13:28 |
nerzhul |
that's not good |
13:29 |
nerzhul |
object properties version should be linked to a protocol range |
13:29 |
sfan5 |
it's not the first compat-breaking change in 0.5, not a problem IMO |
13:31 |
Krock |
real global textures was the same. a serialisation version was increased but not the protocol version. just with the difference that clients couldn't connect to the servers at all anymore |

49,152 polygons on a 64x64 dropped item |
17:42 |
benrob0329 |
That is insane |
17:43 |
benrob0329 |
Although for that matter, the wieldhand is probably just as bad |
17:44 |
benrob0329 |
But just on 16x16 textures, you can end up with 3,072 polygons. |
17:50 |
Jordach |
benrob0329, remember that the full size 16x16 faces,eg front and back, are likely two tris |
17:51 |

20:57 |

20:58 |
