00:01 LazyJ Found it! "Cute Cubic Mobs" by RHR:
00:01 LazyJ https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=9472
00:02 CalebDavis ok XD i just found it too :)
00:02 LazyJ Probably too cutesy for all the ultra epic-awesome, too-cool-for-everyone players but very simple.
00:02 CalebDavis i gtg help fix dinner cyall later
00:03 Fixer i think sofar did some cubic mobs recently
00:05 neinwhal joined #minetest-hub
00:09 LazyJ A player over on Craig's server asked if there is a way to revert mossy cobble back into regular cobble.
00:09 LazyJ Cook it?
00:10 LazyJ I added a tool for that on LG but adding a single purpose tool isn't a good idea in my experience.
00:20 benrob0329 Cuboid mobs with good animations
00:20 benrob0329 (The Dungeon Master shall return!)
00:35 paramat yes 'simple mobs' is too old to refer too
00:37 benrob0329 KaadmY: please dont let kilbith run you down, he's full of it and everyone knows it. We all love your work and would hate to see it stop because someone decided to be an ass :-)
00:39 paramat cute cubic mods 2 has good and suitable models, that's rare for a MT mob mod
00:40 paramat no way in MTG to revert mossycobble to cobble, but cooking it is a good idea, feel free to open an issue
00:42 LazyJ I recommended to SG to open a suggestion Issue on MTG's GitHub.
00:42 LazyJ I've already come-up with a work-around for LG so it is less critical for me.
00:43 LazyJ Just thought I'd ask here in case I missed a mossy cobble change (easy to do these days; buried under a todo-list).
00:44 paramat ah CCM2 is perfect because that shows how to use nodeboxes for mobs, i didn't want to make models

16:21 Aerozoic Is there a way to give a single priv to all existing accounts on a server?
16:23 jas_ in auth.txt, you can add it with sed
16:23 jas_ or was it awk? i forget, lol..
16:23 Aerozoic sed awk? are those terminal commands?
16:24 jas_ yes. or do you not use auth.txt? i didn't notice if it's default or what's up with that now
16:24 jas_ something something db
16:24 Aerozoic Pretty sure i setup sqlite for player backend
16:24 Aerozoic i need to check, lol.. just a sec
16:24 jas_ oh, maybe then it's a SQL command? i dunno those even more
16:25 sfan5 auth data will always be in auth.txt (unless you're using e.g. sauth)
16:25 Aerozoic yep player backend=sqlite3
16:31 jas_ ok so it is different then
16:32 jas_ try sed s/interact,/interact,newpriv/g auth.txt, and if it looks right throw an -i in between... ?
16:33 jas_ i'm sure that's not the best way tho. i dunno why i thought awk. that's what i did when i needed to add one priv to a bunch of names anyway
16:33 jas_ i think i made bindable mouse PR not spam usable items on dig button... still does on place button pointing at air tho. fun playing with that file
16:33 Aerozoic welp, messing with auth.txt is dangerous. I wanna be absolutely sure before i do anything.
16:34 jas_ doing it without -i shows what it will does, and then adding -i makes it replace the file
16:35 sfan5 Aerozoic: you can create a backup
16:35 Aerozoic absolutely :)
16:37 Aerozoic i wish there was a priv manager mod
16:43 jas_ i wish i could tear frames
16:46 Aerozoic How many wishes do we get? XD
16:47 jas_ still fairly convinced movement is faster at a diagonal
16:47 jas_ ...at least.
16:48 Aerozoic ha, i've always wondered that. Should be easy to test.
16:48 jas_ one would think. i never dared, though.
16:48 jas_ physics, it's a tricky thing haha
16:48 Aerozoic d=rt
16:48 jas_ oh?
16:49 Aerozoic distance=(rate)(time)
16:49 jas_ i made a grenade tnt thing once, that was fun. still need to turn egg into a spear tool
16:50 jas_ would be nice to have that for snowball in stock minetest_game, and drop snow node wherever it lands.
16:50 Megaf joined #minetest-hub
16:50 Aerozoic just to make sure i understood, by diagonal, you meant holding both "W" and "A"?
16:50 jas_ i use ESDF
16:50 Megaf Hi
16:51 Aerozoic so e and s
16:51 jas_ esdf txcvargb <-- hotbar
16:51 jas_ shift is use, z is sneak, space is place, alt is zoom, RMB jump, LMB dig
16:51 jas_ q is drop, w is inventory.
16:51 jas_ yep, e and s and proper yaw
16:52 Aerozoic oh that reminds me, ever tried changing the default key for zoom?
16:52 jas_ yes
16:52 Aerozoic it's not in the change key menu and when i tried to change minetest.conf it absolutely refused to work.
16:53 jas_ it is for me
16:53 jas_ the only keys that aren't in the change keys menu are the hotbar slots
16:53 jas_ i have to change those in the .conf
16:53 jas_ what version do you use?
16:53 Aerozoic 16 stable
16:53 jas_ i dunno then
16:53 Aerozoic zoom is in the menu? maybe i missed it
16:53 jas_ on 0.5.0-dev
16:55 Aerozoic oh i see it now way off on the right by itself. I previously had adjusted the GUI size which had cut it off so i couldn't see it.
16:56 jas_ if you try out 0.5.0-dev, you can come to dcbl sometime
16:56 jas_ it's based off the same thing amhi was
16:56 jas_ buggy though, stamina bar doesn't always show up first thing new user? gah, reminds me of hud_hunger
16:57 Aerozoic Yeah i saw the forum post :) I should try it sometime. I'm having major issues with linux right now though. The only way i can even play MT is using the windows version on WINE -_-
16:58 jas_ (hud is actually in dcbl_default/ui.lua, used for armor lol)
16:58 jas_ wow
16:58 jas_ that's extreme! haha
16:58 jas_ better than an ipad tho
16:58 jas_ : D
16:58 Aerozoic lol, yep!
16:58 jas_ i wish android 0.5.0 worked D':
16:59 jas_ that's ok, i guess it doesn't even work on windows? or some versions, or some such thing
16:59 jas_ works great here on debian 9.. oh well
17:00 Aerozoic idek how you would get 5.0 on windows
17:00 jas_ haha
17:00 jas_ i think ubuntu is in windows store, problem solved!
17:01 Aerozoic XD
17:02 jas_ it doesn't bother me, but eventually it might bother others not to be able to use certain features
17:02 jas_ dinosaur mods are coming
17:03 jas_ honey i shrunk the minetest. i wanna try this feature now
17:03 jas_ i just played with itemstack:get_meta():set_tool_capabilities() and that was very fun
17:03 jas_ a lot of stuff is/will be backported to 0.4.1x tho haha
17:03 jas_ (i joke, i mean 0.4.17 ahem)
17:08 Roger9 Ello.
17:11 jas_ hi Roger9
17:16 jas_ but it's not just about x+z+yaw it's also about pitch, and how i move one in relation to the other, it seems.
17:17 jas_ i always thought it felt good anyway. mt is an interesting beast!

21:22 Roger9 'Ello!
21:22 Roger9 Krock, rubenwardy, you have reason to celebrate.
21:25 Krock why?
21:27 Krock rubenwardy, seen the pasted server configuration here yet? https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=18843
21:27 Fixer Krock: BETA DAYS
21:27 Fixer oh wait
21:28 Fixer oh man
21:28 Krock the server is enabled twice, default_privs seems to be an invalid setting line and max_users is .. apparently 40?!
21:28 Fixer technic SSP for MC 1.2.5 - has nice ambience and has that feel, when I moved back 6 years ._.
21:28 Krock Fixer, beta? where?
21:28 rubenwardy jesus christ
21:28 Shara Yea... but it's minetesthosting, so everything is meaningless :D
21:28 Fixer it's SPARTA
21:35 rubenwardy what even https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=18581 and https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=18700
21:36 Jordach >old cisoun textures
21:36 Jordach you're a mad man
21:36 rubenwardy ah, they have different titles
21:37 rubenwardy never mind
21:47 Krock rubenwardy, yet two servers that use the areas + protector combination
21:47 Krock even if these aren't thought to be used together
21:48 rubenwardy I don't like protectors very much - it encourages players to spam these ugly blocks through out the sky to protect the sky, and means you have to hide them in you buildings
21:48 rubenwardy plus turning the player around is bad UX
21:49 rubenwardy and also completely unpredictable as until recently there was no HUD
21:49 Roger9 Back.
21:49 Roger9 Anyway, the reason is that I've switched back to Linux! Yay!
21:49 Shara Krock: Plenty of servers have used both mods
21:50 Shara I even have both running on DL (though I don't like having both)
21:50 Shara protectors has problems, especially for large scale admin created areas
21:50 Krock as soon areas can be used by regular players, there will be dead zones, where both protection mods can cancel access to a place
21:50 Fixer rubenwardy: it sucks but it was mitigated by those logos, but they still visible pretty much
21:51 Krock not a fan of protectors either tbh
21:51 Shara Krock: protectors can create dead zones all by itself anyway
21:51 Fixer i hate protectors with usual reason - it is not eye pleasent to see sky full of them
21:51 Krock oh, isn't there a range check for them?
21:51 Shara Only reason I use it is because on a survival server, it feels like protection should be earned
21:51 Krock inb4 landrush :3
21:52 rubenwardy there's better ways to add cost
21:52 Shara Krock, protectors from different players can leave you with situations where it's impossible to place one
21:52 rubenwardy like making area protection use a consumable item
21:52 Shara Sadly I am not made of time
21:52 rubenwardy or having a protector node, but allowing it to be placed (and so hidden) anywhere inside the protection area
21:52 Krock "protection powered by 2 stacks of bread"
21:53 Shara I've considered making the protectors invisible though
21:53 Krock (consumable item)
21:53 Krock but invisible ones will also block your building plans sometimes
21:53 Shara But at least players know how to use the things
21:54 Roger9 Maybe they should be semitransparent?
21:54 Shara Roger9: pretty sure that would make it worse, not better
21:54 rubenwardy <Shara> Sadly I am not made of time regrettably
21:54 Roger9 What would it even feel like to be made of time?
21:55 Shara I'm not sure if it would feel like anything
22:05 Roger9 Meh, it might feel kinda timey.
22:06 Roger9 Granted, time isn't even a physical substance.
22:07 Raven262 Ah, so is your soul made out of physical substance?
22:07 Raven262 And yet you say it exists.
22:07 Roger9 I didn't remember saying that souls exist.
22:08 Roger9 And still don't.
22:08 Raven262 Oh nice.
22:08 Raven262 Self awareness then?
22:08 Roger9 ?
22:08 Roger9 Self awareness is a concept, not a physical substance, if you mean that.
22:08 Raven262 You can't really think you are a simple machine, can you?
22:08 Roger9 No, I'm a complicated machine.
22:09 Raven262 Same.
22:09 Raven262 It doesn't really matter, you do know what you are. How?
22:10 Roger9 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brain
22:10 Raven262 I don't have one of those.
22:10 Raven262 In my collection, I mean.
22:11 Roger9 We all have one in our head, though.
22:11 Roger9 We most likely first found that out, ages ago, by examining corpses.
22:13 Raven262 Its interesting though, not long ago I would easily accept the fact that we are actually only complex machines. Its getting harder to think that way more the time flows.
22:14 Raven262 Hmm, thats getting offtopic.
22:14 Raven262 ...and then, there is minetest.
22:14 sfan5 have you tested some mines today?
22:14 Raven262 Some, you?
22:14 sfan5 none
22:14 Roger9 Not really.
22:16 Krock oh yes! let's go on an adventure, my princess!
22:17 Raven262 Well, that escalated quickly.
22:18 Raven262 I'm kind of terrified by the absence of unicorns here though.
22:21 * Roger9 generates a unicorn
22:23 Donbatman https://twitter.com/farfadet46/status/716324617506398208
22:24 Raven262 Damn, now I am terrified.
22:25 Krock https://pastebin.com/raw/KMtWnkiG
22:25 Krock ^ Roger9, no need to generate one. here's it.
22:26 Raven262 :)
22:27 Roger9 lol
22:27 Roger9 I'm once again fiddling with the MATE panel system.
22:34 Fixer to make invisible protectors just make a tool that by right or left clicking changes protector textures to invisible ;)
22:34 Fixer it is possible in 2017 minetest, right? right??767
22:35 Raven262 The markers are a better option IMO
22:35 Roger9 Right??767.
22:38 Megaf joined #minetest-hub
22:39 Fixer simple protection / landrush is better option
22:39 Fixer very build friendly
22:39 Fixer no hassle
22:39 Fixer no flying crap
22:39 Fixer you get 16x16x1XX area
22:39 Fixer server is divided in 16x16 chunks basicly
22:40 paramat per-mapblock protection, much better
22:40 Fixer this system is used on Landrush/LibertyLand/Fozland and is very good
22:40 Fixer proven itself
22:40 Fixer yet very few servers use it
22:40 Fixer they end up with protectors clogging up everything, sometimes in ridiculous ways
22:40 paramat protector nodes are crude and ugly
22:41 Raven262 ^
22:41 Raven262 This is exactly what i thought
22:42 Raven262 There are protection mods that don't require protector nodes.
22:42 Fixer paramat: landrush protection is pretty much that (it should use mapchunks but i'm not sure, it uses more of vertical space too)
22:42 Fixer i'm tired of those protectors everywhere
22:42 Fixer it is good mod
22:42 Fixer but
22:42 Fixer not for OCD people
22:42 Fixer not for building
22:43 Fixer for survival? probably
22:43 Fixer you need to incorporate those protectors into your house and it is big pain in the ASS
22:43 Fixer or worse
22:43 Fixer into landscape
22:43 Raven262 They made a lighter version where the protection node looks like a lock.
22:43 Fixer horro
22:43 Fixer r
22:44 Raven262 But same thing still.
22:44 Fixer yeah, still, good luck building anything bigger then simple house with protectors
22:44 Raven262 https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?t=7239 this one though is nice

22:44 Raven262 With the markers mod, it makes a better alternative.

22:46 Donbatman With mysoundblocks I made them hidden with a chat command to show them again
22:46 Donbatman https://github.com/minetest-mods/mysoundblocks/blob/master/init.lua#L149
22:47 Donbatman Protection blocks could do the same
22:55 Shara Built using protectors: http://rc.minetest.tv/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/Cap_Palace.png
22:55 Shara I don't think that was really luck.
22:55 Shara Inside is quite nicely decorated too
22:56 Donbatman cool
22:56 Shara Was built by a player who wanted to make something for me.
22:56 Shara I didn't know he was building it until it was finished :)
22:57 Donbatman You have your players wrapped around your little finger
22:57 Shara Protectors certainly have some problems, but it's completely possible to build nice things with a little planning
23:00 Shara Fixer: is landrush protection mod even maintained? I tried to find info on it before and it just didn't seem that great really.
23:00 Shara No flexibility
23:01 Fixer Shara: there is one by brandonreese, and there is fork by Krock (simple protection), mod has proved itself (work on few big servers for years)
23:01 Shara But seems like it has strict limits in terms of height of protections
23:01 Shara And that's kind of useless to me
23:04 Shara Krock's mod looks a bit better
23:05 Shara But looks like no underground protections?
23:05 Shara These mods feel like they are great for city-building type servers
23:05 Shara But not everyone wants to be forced to a nice neat grid
23:27 Fixer Shara: you can customise it
23:27 Fixer Shara: you can claim all height
23:28 Shara And what if players make flats and want to give floors to different people?
23:28 Shara It doesn't work
23:31 oOChainLynxOo joined #minetest-hub
23:33 Fixer iirc sharing is possible
23:34 Shara I didn't meanf or sharing.
23:34 Shara for*
23:34 Shara One person makes a big building then gives fllors to different people, who just get that floor. I've seen it done often.
23:34 Shara floors*
23:34 Donbatman Or apartments
23:37 paramat joined #minetest-hub
23:41 Fixer Shara: i don't think it is possible, iirc there is separate mod for appartments
23:41 Shara areas and protectors work
23:42 Fixer in what sense?
23:42 Shara But I'm just pointing this out to show you why you can't say one specifc mod is perfect and others are automatically bad
23:42 Fixer i don't remember such feature
23:42 Fixer i have not said that, but in my experience, it is much easier to build with landrush mod
23:42 Shara You don't need a feature. They work simply because they are not limited to specific sized areas in this way. Placement is more flexible
23:43 Shara It's a bit more tricky with protectors than with areas, but even then it can be done
23:43 Roger9 Using the wrong type of text hinting (wrong subpixel order) looks really weird. The text looks just sliiiightly out of focus.
23:44 Roger9 Having no subpixel hinting on text achieves a similar, albeit slightly weaker, effect.
23:44 Roger9 Well, by that I mean "having no subpixel tinting".
23:46 Calinou I now use this on Windows, btw: https://github.com/snowie2000/mactype
23:47 Calinou smoother font rendering :) it's updated for Windows 10, I didn't use it for a while
23:49 Roger9 A better solution would be "don't use Windows".
23:49 Raven262 ^
23:49 Raven262 Except when you have to play Skyrim. You do need windows for that.
23:50 Roger9 That's no excuse - I recently gave up Roblox so I wouldn't have to use a terrible OS every day.
