Hi all |
09:53 |
CALINOU |
hi :) |
09:54 |
Megaf |
CALINOU, I see you've been eating lots of croissants |
09:55 |
Megaf |
You gained some weight |
09:55 |

09:59 |
MEGAF |
By the way, I used to have a couple of croissants with coffee for breakfast almost every day couple months ago |
09:59 |
MEGAF |
with butter |
10:00 |
MEGAF |
routine was getting up, getting dressed or having shower, crossing the road to the local market and buying croissants for breakfast |
10:02 |
CALINOU |
I don't eat croissants or the like anymore |
10:03 |
MEGAF |
me neither :P |
10:03 |
MEGAF |
I might make bread today tho |
10:10 |
shivajiva |
I do like almond croissants dusted in icing sugar |
10:12 |
shivajiva |
HI MEGAF, CALINOU, RAVEN262 :P |
10:12 |
MEGAF |
hm, this month is my 10th year anniversary with GMail |
10:13 |
MEGAF |
I mean, this year |
10:13 |
MEGAF |
it was a month or two ago |
10:13 |
MEGAF |
When I got GMail I had been using Freenode for one year already |
10:14 |
shivajiva |
and what salubrious gift did they send for your loyalty? |
10:14 |
MEGAF |
lots of GBs |
10:14 |
MEGAF |
and a fantastic support team |
10:14 |
shivajiva |
os spam lol |
10:14 |
MEGAF |
I had to contact the support a couple of times and it was always awesome |
10:14 |
CALINOU |
I no longer used GMail since early 2014 /p |
10:14 |
MEGAF |
shivajiva, they filter the spam for me |
10:14 |
CALINOU |
:p* |
10:15 |
MEGAF |
meh, I actually have active emails in lots of places |
10:15 |
MEGAF |
outlook, yahoo, gmail |
10:15 |
CALINOU |
I was on OpenMailBox until July 2017, before they removed IMAP access from free accounts |
10:15 |
CALINOU |
now I'm using Gandi email on my own domain |
10:15 |
CALINOU |
1 GB only, but it's enough |
10:15 |
shivajiva |
I think most of do |
10:15 |
CALINOU |
(OpenMailBox was 1 GB as well) |
10:16 |
MEGAF |
I had my own email server and even my own cloud stack in the past |
10:16 |
MEGAF |
but meh, not worth it |
10:16 |
CALINOU |
the email is hosted by Gandi |
10:16 |
CALINOU |
not myself |
10:16 |
CALINOU |
that removes a lot of the hassle :P |
10:16 |
shivajiva |
shame tormail didn't last |
10:18 |
CALINOU |
it's a shame email still flies unencrypted over the Internet, too |
10:18 |
CALINOU |
GPG failed its mission :/ |
10:19 |
shivajiva |
email is more like a postcard than a letter, everyone can read it |
10:21 |
CALINOU |
yeah |
10:21 |
CALINOU |
we're finally adopting secure-by-default design |
10:21 |
CALINOU |
but that wasn't the case 20 years ago :P |
10:22 |
shivajiva |
and a 2048 bit keypair is worthless these days apparently |
10:22 |
MEGAF |
Yesterday I finally encrypted my / |
10:22 |
MEGAF |
with 256 bit serpent encryption |
10:23 |
MEGAF |
I do want to make my own cloud one day, fully encrypted |
10:24 |
shivajiva |
I stopped doing encrypted system when I departed the MS camp, should I consider it for nix? |
10:29 |
shivajiva |
given the trouble mounting and recovering data from an encrypted home partition on OS change was recently, I'm not driven towards encrypting data that isn't sensitive |
10:33 |
MEGAF |
if you have a browser, and email, your data is sensitive |
10:34 |
MEGAF |
I can control your life from a forgotten email cookie |
10:34 |
MEGAF |
if I get access to you email, I get access to your Facebook, whatsapp, electricity bills and so on |
10:35 |
CALINOU |
shivajiva: 2048-bit is still decent today |
10:35 |
CALINOU |
4096-bit is a bit better, but not much |
10:35 |
MEGAF |
shivajiva, and on Debian at least, to regain access to encrypted disk after formating or even during recovery is as easy as typing the password when it askes for it |
10:35 |
CALINOU |
https://xkcd.com/538 applies, though |
10:36 |
CALINOU |
MEGAF: password dialogs still don't understand non-QWERTY layouts, IIRC |
10:36 |
CALINOU |
with LUKS |
10:36 |
MEGAF |
well, Im using LUKS and my keyboard is qwerty |
10:36 |
MEGAF |
so Im fine |
10:36 |
MEGAF |
:P |
10:38 |
CALINOU |
I'm pretty sure BitLocker understands them |
10:38 |
CALINOU |
I never used full disk encryption anyway |
10:38 |
CALINOU |
I should (the performance penalty isn't noticeable on a SSD and a CPU with hardware AES), but meh |
10:39 |
MEGAF |
CALINOU, I had only my home encrypted |
10:39 |
CALINOU |
you can do that, yeah |
10:39 |
CALINOU |
but who knows, your lewd data is maybe in /opt |
10:39 |
MEGAF |
then the guys at ##linux told me this was not enough, because something could just get access to / and temper with luks or whatever |
10:39 |
CALINOU |
that portable build of an open source game downloaded custom maps with lewd pictures, maybe :^) |
10:40 |
MEGAF |
besides, if your swap is not encrypted, then encryption is useless |
10:40 |
MEGAF |
considering someone really wants to get access to your data |
10:42 |
MEGAF |
oh boy, for the first time in 6 or 7 years I forgot to wish happy birthday to my ex girlfriend |
10:43 |
MEGAF |
Meh, she never said thanks anyway. So who cares |

My end goal is actually looking at status effects and debuffs and things |
13:46 |

why not just ban them? |
13:46 |

Because sometimes people can learn and I try not to be completely evil. |
13:47 |
Shara |
It;'s like asking why do people kick instead of ban, or why do people use jail mods |
13:49 |
Raven262 |
Oh yeah, I completely forgot that i can actually kick players. |
13:49 |
lisac |
Yes: but I don't get it how could behavior be annoying enough to force a player to leave due to incredible retardation, but not enough to just kick/ban him? |
13:50 |
Shara |
It's entirely possible they don't realise their behaviour is undesirable, or just don't care about it, until they see it has consequences. |
13:51 |
Shara |
It's totally fine if you never want to play on my servers because I don't take the same approach to handling players that you do though. |

Sokomine, is the lag actually network lag or maybe server lag? Check max_lag in /status |

sfan5: string has no more uses, maybe use cotton for now? |
20:52 |
Fixer |
sfan5: for loot |
20:52 |
sfan5 |
it specifically picked string because it's so useless :D |
20:53 |
Fixer |
hahah |
20:53 |
Fixer |
stop trolling minetest_game |
20:54 |
sfan5 |
cobwebs would also be a nice touch but i remember that idea being rejected previously |
20:56 |
Fixer |
it is rejected first time, but can be accepted second time |
20:59 |
Fixer |
sfan5: what about adding rails to loot? (somewhat silly) |
21:00 |
sfan5 |
sounds reasonable |
21:01 |
Fixer |
sfan5: btw |
21:01 |
Fixer |
sfan5: i have huge suggestion |
21:02 |
Fixer |
sfan5: i know for a fact - people on servers LOVE to use rock with ores intact (via mods), will be nice to have it as loot |
21:02 |
sfan5 |
not sure if that's the right way |
21:02 |
Fixer |
sfan5: for example, stone_with_diamond, it is used for decoration |
21:03 |
sfan5 |
i'd rather have it the MC-way with a "special" pickaxe that keeps ores intact |
21:03 |
Fixer |
could be, i even asked for that somewhere |
21:03 |
Fixer |
for example, we have DUMB bronze tools, make it special or smth |
21:04 |
sfan5 |
adding *just* stone_w_diamond would be fine, but making every ore findable as stone_with_* as loot, nah |
21:05 |
Fixer |
sfan5: coal, copper, diamond, gold, iron, tin, mese :} |
21:05 |
Fixer |
not too many, it can be rare |
21:05 |
Fixer |
they are used for decor |
21:05 |
Fixer |
but special pickaxe idea can be used too |
21:06 |
Fixer |
i will move this to issue discussion |

21:22 |

sfan5: in my defence - you need to unload whole fucking chest before taking it, and this mt aspect sucks, in mc you dig it and collect everything at once |

is mt way more realistic? probably |

So I copied the fonts from my Windows Server VM and installed WPS Office in my Linux box. Done, no need for Microsoft Office and Windows anymore, I'm actually quite impressed by how well WPS works, it's features and now with Windows Fonts all compatibility problems are over. |
