GitLab allows arbitrary emoji as reactions, but GitHub doesn't :( |

08:37 |

no it's patched |
08:38 |
VanessaE |
atorian37: I don't know what the "newest release" actually IS. |
08:38 |

a zip may not be the current git HEAD of worldedit |

08:39 |
VanessaE |
atorian37: just get rid of the _gui component and it should be fine. check your auth.txt, make sure no one has privs that shouldn't. check your config files in the world dir also, make sure none of them contain any code (as opposed to just settings). delete any that do. enable mod security if you haven't already. |
08:40 |
shivajiva |
I use this cmd /lua for name, stuff in pairs(minetest.auth_table) do if stuff.privileges["protection_bypass"] == true then minetest.chat_send_player("shivajiva", name.." has protection_bypass priv") end end |
08:40 |
shivajiva |
when the server is running |
08:41 |
shivajiva |
easily changed for any priv |
08:41 |
atorian37 |
cool thank you all for the hints |
08:41 |
VanessaE |
I just `grep "server" auth.txt` |
08:41 |
VanessaE |
anyone who shows up with that priv and shouldn't gets stripped of privs and possibly banned. |

Have you ever seen your personal information on a public forum? Have you even seen your personal information “grayed out If you have, know that it is not only cowardly, but also illegal. There is a name for it: doxing. |
08:55 |
shivajiva |
Doxing is always illegal, whether it is done against a federal employee, a state employee, or a regular person. There are federal and state laws that specifically address doxing government employees. With regular citizens, doxing falls under various state criminal laws, such as stalking, cyberstalking, harassment, threats, and other such laws, depending on the state. |
08:56 |
CWz |
shivajiva, huh? |

Quick question. Whats the difference between an "A" record and a "CNAME" record? |
10:20 |
VanessaE |
a CNAME record is like a symbolic link |
10:21 |
VanessaE |
an A record is like the original file |
10:21 |
shivajiva |
The A record maps a name to one or more IP addresses, when the IP are known and stable. The CNAME record maps a name to another name. It should only be used when there are no other records on that name. The ALIAS record maps a name to another name, but in turns it can coexist with other records on that name. |
10:21 |
VanessaE |
if you compare it to a filesystemn, that is |
10:22 |
rubenwardy |
you should prefer a cname record if you're pointing at a server and have a name for it |
10:22 |
rubenwardy |
unless it's a root record |
10:23 |
rubenwardy |
for example CNAME www -> example.github.io |
10:23 |
rubenwardy |
but you have to do A @ -> 69.23.23.34 |
10:23 |
* CWz |
wonders if VanessaE thought mroe about her paid hosting plan idea. |
10:23 |
CWz |
MT needs a good one |
10:23 |
rubenwardy |
where @ is root (eg: rubenwardy.com, not www. or subdomain) |
10:23 |
rubenwardy |
erm |
10:24 |
rubenwardy |
I mean @ stands for root |

shivajiva |
VanessaE: I think it's a great idea |
10:24 |
DI3HARD139 |
Ok. So basically the CNAME is just for use with subdomains. Ok. Just trying to figure out which to use to pass multiple connection names to the server. ex. mt.krynet.tk and hce.krynet.tk |
10:25 |
rubenwardy |
also with www, DI3HARD139 |
10:25 |
rubenwardy |
they say you should avoid using http://example.com, and use http://www.example.com, but I don't like that |
10:25 |

CWz |
*form |
11:45 |
tenplus1 |
leave that to mods |
11:45 |
Raven262 |
It is not really required in default. |
11:46 |
tenplus1 |
default has checks for protection so that when you DO use a mod it works |
11:46 |
tenplus1 |
that's all we need for now :D |
11:46 |
Raven262 |
And, if it were to be added, there would be a fight about shall it be "protection blocks" or area protect. |
11:47 |
tenplus1 |
exactly... we already have blocks, areas and map blocks |
11:47 |
Raven262 |
And what is the purpose of protection anyway? To protect from griefers. We didn't include them in the default :P |
11:49 |
tenplus1 |
could always add a custom block to default that only the owner can punch to pickup |
11:49 |
tenplus1 |
then you could use it with locked doors |
12:00 |
Raven262 |
There is one graphical feature that would improve minetest a great deal. |
12:00 |
Raven262 |
Transparency. |

12:07 |

hi |
12:08 |

wb cal |
12:08 |
Calinou |
Raven262: transparency is not as trivial to render as you think |
12:08 |
Calinou |
order-independent transparency is a thing, but it's expensive to render |
12:08 |
Raven262 |
Hello Calinou |
12:08 |
Raven262 |
Ah. |
12:08 |
Calinou |
so for now we're stuck with old-school transparency, which glitches out if you look at a transparent surface through another transparent surface |
12:09 |
Calinou |
(this is not a problem with 1-bit transparency, also called "discard transparency") |
12:09 |

is it more expesive then coloured lighting |
12:10 |
Raven262 |
*second one |
12:10 |
Raven262 |
Really? |
12:10 |
Calinou |
colored lighting would not be extremely expensive, I guess |
12:10 |
Calinou |
you'd have 4 light channels (16 bits to store) instead of 2 (8 bits to store) |
12:10 |
Calinou |
we have block light and sky light right now |
12:11 |
Calinou |
I guess colored lighting would be red/green/blue/sky light |
12:11 |
Calinou |
each component has 16 levels, so 4 bits |
12:11 |
Raven262 |
But it would make map much bigger. |
12:11 |
Calinou |
https://github.com/minetest/minetest/issues/95#issuecomment-27149867 |
12:11 |
Calinou |
methinks this should be fixed if you enable shaders |
12:11 |
Calinou |
Raven262: not by much… in fact, I'm not even sure if light information is saved to the database |
12:12 |
Calinou |
this is not the largest of our concerns with regards to colored light |

12:13 |
lumidify |
Hi tenplus1, Raven262 |
12:14 |
Raven262 |
xD |
12:14 |
Calinou |
I believe lighting in Minetest is already volumetric |
12:14 |
Raven262 |
What is that anyway? |
12:14 |
paramat |
apparently mapnode would double in size, world files become twice the size |
12:14 |
Raven262 |
Oo |
12:14 |
Calinou |
the light level of nodes not exposed to any solid node (ie. air surrounded by air) is already computed |
12:14 |
Calinou |
paramat: ah |
12:14 |
Raven262 |
What? |
12:14 |
Calinou |
that would be bearable for most users, especially if we automatically compress worlds |
12:14 |
Calinou |
(I think eg. LZ4 compression would be suitable) |
12:14 |
Calinou |
that's very fasst |
12:14 |
Calinou |
fast* |
12:14 |
paramat |
(as far as i remember from discussions) |
12:15 |
Raven262 |
Rendering only the visible part of the world would do much. |
12:15 |
CWz |
Culling? |
12:15 |
Calinou |
we already have occlusion culling |
12:15 |
Calinou |
(and view frustrum culling) |
12:15 |
Calinou |
since like, 0.3.0 |
12:15 |
Calinou |
occlusion culling is never 100% efficient thoughb |
12:15 |
Raven262 |
But minetest still calculates light level of air? xD |
12:16 |
Calinou |
either you make it too conservative and it won't give you much performance improvements (if not worsening performance!), either you make it too agressive and artifacts happen |
12:16 |
|

I think Minecraft had occlusion culling at a time, known as "Advanced OpenGL" (sic), but they ended up removing it |
12:16 |
Calinou |
since it did not improve performance for most users |
12:16 |
Calinou |
yes, it does |
12:16 |
Calinou |
else, if you jump/fly into air, your wielditem and player model would turn all black |
12:16 |
tenplus1 |
what do they use now ? |
12:16 |
Calinou |
nothing? just view frustrum culling, I guess |
12:16 |
Calinou |
like before Beta 1.5 |
12:17 |
Calinou |
it was off by default anyway, I think |
12:17 |
Raven262 |
I still don't get it why minecraft seems to have much better graphics than minetest, even if one would use minecraft's textures in minetest they would still look different. |
12:17 |
tenplus1 |
so turning off occlusion culling for some ppl would be an improvement ? |

Windows 10 allows 18 hours of Activity Hours since the Creators Update, instead of 12 |
14:27 |

so you can make it reboot (when not using) only between 0:00 and 8:00 for example |

sneakers, in old code you could avoid damage when falling a long way on a sneak ladder and stopping using the 'sneak' key, do you want this lack of damage preserved in new sneak ladder code? |
15:06 |
Raven262 |
I think that should be preserved. |
15:06 |
tenplus1 |
the lack of damage when falling using old sneak method was an obvious bug... this shoudl be fixed |
15:06 |
paramat |
because i've noticed descending a sneak ladder is not much fun if you have to catch your fall every 4 nodes |
15:06 |
tenplus1 |
but the ability to climb along ledges and jump using sneak was important |
15:07 |
Raven262 |
But one could possibly get his hands on the ladder while falling. |
15:07 |
paramat |
but sneak ladder was an obvious bug too |
15:07 |
paramat |
that's no argument |
15:07 |
tenplus1 |
was a fun glitch, as if playes were using hands to pull themselves up a block :) handy |
15:09 |
paramat |
descending a sneak ladder with damage is fairly slow and irritating, players probably want the old behaviour. remember this is the new sneak code option enabled with 'sneak glitch' (default off) |
15:10 |
tenplus1 |
nope, the falling with no damage is bad... we NEED damage... it forces players to ethier descend safely or drop onto trampoline, mushroom pore, slimeblock or water |
15:10 |
paramat |
the idea of this option is to replicate as closely as possible the old sneak side-effects |
15:10 |
tenplus1 |
add the damage dude, it's important... sneaking has to come at a cost... falling from a cliff and saving yourself last minute with sneak messes up game |
15:11 |
paramat |
still no argument, players may want what they were used to, nevermind how it should be |
15:11 |
paramat |
but ok that's one opinion, thanks |
15:12 |
behalebabo |
sneak is used by most of the players on my server as a way to navigate builds and mines, not for damage avoidance; using it that way is a very clear exploit whereas the ladder itself is somewhat limited and does not bypass usual game mechanics. |
15:13 |
tenplus1 |
was going to add gloves to 3d_armor so that the sneak bug could be used properly and disabled when nto wearing them... |
15:13 |
Raven262 |
make player 1/2 high when he sneaks, so he can go trough 1x1 hole. |
15:13 |
Raven262 |
We need that. |
15:14 |
Calinou |
that'd be too intense |
15:14 |
Raven262 |
Would make stuff fun |
15:14 |
Calinou |
the player does not "sneak" from a third person perspective, too |
15:14 |
Calinou |
so this is why we don't lower eye height unlike in Minecraft |
15:14 |
Raven262 |
That should be done too |
15:14 |
Calinou |
I don't think so |
15:14 |
Raven262 |
No? |
15:15 |
Calinou |
I believe we should take good ideas from any place, but we don't have to copy every game design aspect of Minecraft |
15:15 |
Calinou |
think of our sneak as a "walk" rather than a "crouch" |
15:15 |
Calinou |
(we could have both, though, like in eg. many modern FPSes) |
15:15 |

what's the status regarding pathfinding of mobs - if there are doors and other door-like items (probably even ladders) as part of the path? |
16:29 |
benrob0329 |
Ill probably install xsreensaver at some point, and figure out how to disable the default screen turn off |
16:29 |
benrob0329 |
Oh, I do have udevil + devmon running |
16:30 |
tenplus1 |
Sokomine: mobs api pathfinding is still quite simple.. 2 levels, level1 = find a way to get to player (works through water, plants), level2= build up, break walls (level1 only) |
16:32 |
tenplus1 |
oops,w ater+_plants not yet cause pull is still in progress... ehehe... |
16:37 |
tenplus1 |
line_of_sight and pathfinding both need a way to work it's way through "airlike" and "buildable_to" nodes |
16:38 |
tenplus1 |
prolly "floodable" as well |
16:49 |
Sokomine |
tenplus1: hmm. build up, break walls...that's certainly not desired. and it's not a player i'm after |
16:50 |
tenplus1 |
Sokomine: pathfinding for each mob can be set to off, level1 or level2 :) it's not always active |
16:50 |
Sokomine |
hmm. guess ladders will then pose a significant problem. same as doorlike nodes? |
16:50 |
tenplus1 |
there's a mod called aliveai that can handle doors and ladders for npcs |
16:51 |
Sokomine |
players are only of some intrest to the mobs :-) guess mostley they'll want to meet each other |
16:51 |
Sokomine |
ah :-) havn't tested it with doors and ladders yet. but the mod as such was very intresting and nice |
16:54 |
tenplus1 |
burli's new pathfinding routine looks promising tho, will look into that soon |
16:54 |
Sokomine |
maybe i ought to pre-calculate paths inside the houses. after all those are pretty fixed |
16:55 |
Sokomine |
trouble is that my half doors may not be recognizable to a mob as a door. and at least one house has the beds (=targets of the mobs at night) upstairs, reachable only through a ladder. maybe i ought to change that |
16:55 |
Sokomine |
still, stairs...not sure if they can use those? |
16:56 |
tenplus1 |
pathfinding can use stairs, it registers the air nodes above them as a path |
16:56 |
Sokomine |
ah. i had moved the beds downstairs in that one house. still, the miners need to know how to climb |
16:56 |
Sokomine |
ah. that's good! |
16:57 |
Sokomine |
player-made pathfinding or something out of core? |
16:57 |
tenplus1 |
burli has player made pathfinding which works a lot better than core... |
17:05 |
Sokomine |
sounds promising. there are so many nice mob mods out there |

hey MT devs, would it be possible to have some sort of movement prediction? So that carts move normally? |
17:15 |
lisac |
ex. They currently slide out of tracks on corners |
17:16 |
lisac |
and go forwards-backwards |
17:16 |
Sokomine |
that's been wished for for a long time. maybe with client side modding it'll eventually work |
17:18 |

:( It took 2 years to build railway on Craig's server lol |
17:18 |

and it's mostly unused due to movement bugs. |
17:18 |

can server mods send data to the client mods? |

Is there currently a way to set a callback for when the player opens their inventory? |
20:56 |
KaadmY |
I need it to update the formspec depending on your current inventory |
20:56 |
KaadmY |
I might be able to just set the player's formspec when the inventory changes, might be too messy though... |
20:59 |

no |

Darn, it's also impossible to have callbacks when the player inventory changes... |

i used to play elite on a sinclair ZX spectrum 48K |
23:56 |
Jordach |
rubenwardy, DIR_DELIM is also in the C/++ codebase |
23:56 |
Jordach |
it is broken specifically on Win64 |
23:56 |
Jordach |
(and likely Win32) |
23:57 |
Jordach |
it's not a problem in Lua, since "/" is translated to "\" irregardless of platform |
