Use a window based screen recording setup |
05:39 |
benrob0329 |
your SR software should allow you to select a window |
05:40 |
TommyTreasure |
since i'm using a simulated 3 cam shoot, i've been using OBS |
05:40 |
TommyTreasure |
each capture is set up as a separate scene |
05:41 |
TommyTreasure |
NathanS had mentioned a cinnamon plugin, but not running cinnamon here |

05:42 |

same here |
05:42 |

may also be capture method |
05:42 |
benrob0329 |
you can crop it in obs |
05:42 |
TommyTreasure |
mate |
05:42 |
benrob0329 |
or selext window instead of screen |
05:42 |
TommyTreasure |
i'll have to experiment more. thanks! |
05:43 |
benrob0329 |
or shift f11 to full screen (borderless window) minetest |
05:43 |
sofar |
I use "window capture - X composite" |
05:43 |
sofar |
no need to tune |
05:43 |
TommyTreasure |
hmmmmm, that's a thought too. btw, didn't know about shift F11 |
05:43 |

(Offtopic) anyone know of a way to read wii disks on linux? |
05:46 |
sofar |
I usually capture 1080p but my monitor is 2560x1600, so I have plenty pixels on the side where I can monitor terminal or put OBS itself also visible to me |
05:46 |
sofar |
so I actually play "windowed" |
05:46 |
sofar |
1080p is like 2/3rd of my monitor, and like only half the surface |
05:47 |
TommyTreasure |
i've been using my 46" tv for my 1080 monitor. have 2 - 23" i still need to fix |
05:49 |

1080 is the max on all 3 of them |

15:54 |

Krock: but why this 3 second is needed? |
15:55 |
Krock |
// Ignore damage for a few seconds, so that the player doesn't |
15:55 |
Krock |
// get damage from falling on ground |
15:55 |
Krock |
m_ignore_damage_timer = 3.0; |
15:55 |
Krock |
and this in the function where the player's position is set |
15:55 |
Krock |
I assume this comes from in-game, where admins teleport players that dno't fly |
15:55 |
Fixer |
for example parkour maps with saving position, this 3 seconds can be used to avoid damage in parkour |
15:56 |

by doing /home and jumping with sneak |

20:16 |
tenplus1 |
+1 you never know who will start a huge forest fire |
20:17 |
Shara |
I've run into so many new server owners who are upset/in a panic about things being burned down, and they simply didn't know the option was a thing |
20:19 |
red-001 |
+1 to fire being off by default on servers |
20:19 |
Shara |
paramat / other devs: any thoughts about that? |
20:20 |
* Sokomine |
nods heavily to Shara |
20:20 |
Sokomine |
it's something most server owners have to learn over time. fire on servers really isn't a good idea. it might be ok in singleplayer hardcore survival... |
20:21 |
tenplus1 |
also disabled lava buckets on xanadu |
20:21 |
Sokomine |
they're another common problem, yes |
20:21 |
Shara |
I priv lock lava buckets |
20:21 |
Sokomine |
but fire on servers...that always comes up. disabling it by default might be a very good idea |
20:27 |
benrob0329 |
or making it less cpu intensive |
20:28 |
* benrob0329 |
mentions having an "burning" state for nodes, rather than a seperate mod... |
20:31 |
Sokomine |
cpu intensive is one factor against fire on servers. unwanted destruction usually weights even more heavy. on the few servers where fire might be wanted, it ccan still be enabled if it's off by default. at least those server owners enabling it will then koow what they're doing |
20:32 |
atorian37 |
I disabled it from now on, thank you all for the immediate help, I did not know the /deletblocks command. I guess buildings has to be repaired "by hand"? |

atorian37: it can also be good to enable rollback, though some people may disagree with me. |
20:32 |
Sokomine |
perhaps rollback might help |
20:33 |
atorian37 |
rollback is enabled allready but does tis help with fire damage? |
20:34 |
benrob0329 |
he does have a point |
20:34 |
Shara |
never had fire damage to test |
20:34 |
Shara |
Hmm |
20:34 |
benrob0329 |
rollback should be able to revert fire damage |
20:35 |
Shara |
rollback reverts actions of a named player right? So depends if the destruction is counted as an action of the player or something else? |
20:35 |
atorian37 |
do you know the syntax? usually I use /rollback <player> <time in seconds> |
20:35 |
benrob0329 |
perhaps a custom "player" called fire or something should be added |
20:35 |
Shara |
benrob0329: problem then is 'which fire?' |
20:35 |
atorian37 |
omg |
20:35 |
benrob0329 |
probably all fire damage |
20:36 |
benrob0329 |
just, everything in general would be reverted |
20:36 |
benrob0329 |
that was effected by fire |
20:36 |
Shara |
But assuming fire is enabled intentionally, some people use it for land clearing. |
20:36 |
Shara |
so you'd revert actions people wanted as well. Could get messy |
20:36 |
paramat |
maybe, worth considering, like tnt is then |
20:38 |
atorian37 |
anyway, the fire was not naturally born, it was sabotage, so pay attention to angrybuilder666 IP: 77.251.61.140 if you like |
20:38 |
Shara |
paramat: yes, that's what I'm thinking |
20:42 |

Yea... RC has some extremely large long term projects, so thos eplayers don't want people moving in and building right by them |
22:59 |
Shara |
It's a difficult balance... on one level it's great to show off the nice builds, but on another level... I really do want the players to get whatever space they need |
22:59 |

that's understandable. some servers (the german-speaking ones?) tend to have ruels about "don't build too close to other people" |

Shara: it happens often that nice landscape gets ruined...but it's also a pity not to be able to see good builds. how shall those who don't know how to do better ever learn if they never see what's possible? |

i've thought about something like linuxgaming (where's lazyj anyway?): "sell" plots at spawn for a high "price" of ingame currency. build towns with pre-set plots where people can click on a block and get that spot to build on. might even be so restrictive in the beginning that only building and digging on your own plot is possible. one server...er...minerealms(?) used to have such a only-use-your-o |

just to show it can be done |

Someone should send LazyJ an invite... though I don't know if he will join here |

it's not impossible. it's just tricky, and the house ought to be rather small |
