I think we can agree that this post https://forum.luanti.org/viewtopic.php?p=440541#p440541 is an AI ripoff of wheat8's right? |

<wsor4035> will give a response when the forum loads in 8 decades |

well when a brand new account joins and writes a "new game concept" that reads like ChatGPT and wheat8 comments "wow this looks like my idea that I posted yesterday", it could hardly seem more suspicious |
04:38 |
Blockhead256 |
just wanted a second opinion before I go and banhammer indiscriminately though |

<wsor4035> ill say sure, totally - even tho ive never seen it |

<wsor4035> i suppose worse case if you sucessfully get the forum to load enough to ban them and them to also see the ban status, they can come here and ask |

yeah that's just it, I doubt such a thing would happen, these AI "writers" are all fly-by-nights |

Where's the linux version of luanti? What's taking so long? Did the name change cause any package names to change? |

hey folks -- i want to do the luanti game jam but I'm somewhat confused about the rules -- it says not to base your entry off and existing game, but does that apply to the core Minetest Game as well? And it says libraries and boilerplate are allowed--does that include using mods? Like if I want mobs, it seems like I would either use the Mobs mod or |
17:29 |
NQN |
I'd be doing a ton of from-scratch work for a basic feature. |
17:37 |
MTDiscord |
<mistere_123> You can't use minetest game, but you can use extracted parts of minetest game, such as using the defripper mod to collect the node definitions for decorative nodes from minetest game. You can use the mobs api, but you should use the api with your own custom mobs. Does that make sense? |
17:38 |
NQN |
yeah. I just found the Void game which claims to contain nothing -- that seems like a decent starting point just to get the directory structure generated for me? |
17:39 |
NQN |
my idea is way too big to make in the jam time without mixing/matching mods more freely, so I just need to save that idea for later |

17:43 |
MTDiscord |
<jordan4ibanez> Even if it doesn't get finished, submit it, broken, finish it later |
17:43 |
MTDiscord |
<warr1024> People have submitted games that were pretty heavily based on MTG in the past (e.g. I think Occupy Moon) and while they haven't been outright disqualified, they did not fare well in the scoring. "Just another MTG soup" is not what audiences are looking to see in a jam game, and with an existing framework that dominating, it's hard to inject enough real originality in the core gameplay to make it stand out positively. |

can I get an invite link to the Discord? I would have joined the Discord instead of logging onto IRC if I knew there was one haha |

Discord has some conveniences which matter a lot for some users, and very little for others. It comes with some annoyances, like the platform's constant shilling of paid services, and some risks, like the fact that it's controlled by private parties. Even if Discord is right for you, definitely remember IRC as at least a fallback. |
17:49 |

<warr1024> Yeah, the bridge channels aren't available immediately to new users to mitigate spambot risk. |
