Minetest on Windows 🥲 |
02:10 |

it's like the best we can get to depend on since we're small community, and r/linux on its own is not participating anyway so we can't depend on them either |
02:11 |
lebruhgamer[m] |
the whole thing is getting attacked left and right though .. it's rough |

Is there a node like the pipeworks deployer and node breaker, but it punches instead? |

ok so looking further into it.. why isn't the pipeworks wielder API (the one behind deployers, node breakers and dispensers) a public API? |

03:05 |
MTDiscord |
<wsor4035> more seriously, im guess, because it does hacky stuff with faking a player, etc |
03:05 |
Blockhead256[m] |
technic has its own independent implementation of the constructor.. it just feels like there should be a library for this sort of thing, since pipeworks has to go to all the effort of "doing it right" when breaking, placing etc |

<warr1024> To be fair, you can't be 100% certain that somebody with an [m] name is on Matrix because I think you can just add those to your IRC nick anyway? |

did you send that from IRC or from discord? the bot im getting it from is called MTDiscord |
15:29 |

MTDiscord is a bot that bridges communication between IRC and discord |
15:32 |
Blockhead256[m] |
if it came from MTDiscord, it's not from IRC directly |

<warr1024> On Matrix, IRC users and bots look like they are each in the room with you. The Discord bot makes IRC and Matrix users look like individual bots on the Discord side but to IRC and Matrix it looks like a single bot. |
16:18 |
Warr1024 |
Some of us are on IRC too, it's just a little more convenient to talk via discord when we are already using discord to talk elsewhere too. |

yeah, I believe it has to do with the way the gateway is implemented. In IRC connections and users are 1:1, so if a gateway wants to do IRC "correctly" it has to open a new connection for every user. |
16:34 |
jonadab |
I'm not sure the IRC network operators would care for a bot that did things that way. |

I'm pretty sure that's how the matrix gateway is implemented, actually. AFAIK, the only other way is to have your node be a peer in the IRC network. |
16:35 |
jonadab |
If your other-protocol network is at all large, that would be the actual correct way to do it, I think. Technically speaking. |
16:36 |
jonadab |
For a small hobby network with a handful of channels, not so much. |
16:37 |
mmuller |
agreed, but there may be non-technical reasons why that's not feasible. In any case, the matrix bridge docs suggest connect-per-user: https://matrix-org.github.io/matrix-appservice-irc/latest/usage.html |
16:37 |
jonadab |
Sooner or later somebody's going to put out a decent well-designed publicly documented open protocol for chat networks with modern features (like account registration and images) baked in. |
16:37 |
jonadab |
And then of course *that* network will have to be permanently gatewayed to IRC :-) |

you need a certain rank to be able to talk in the bridged IRC channels |

yeah it seems to be either one or two promotions above me |

<greenxenith> Discord has much higher traffic than the other platforms so we keep a slightly higher bar for using the bridge |

alright but is there a way to restrict a matrix chat in a similar way |
