Ok Minetest API minetest:register_abm "chance". I'm trying to understand this. I have a chance of 32000. What does that mean?? |

1 in 32000 nodes will have action run on them |

So, I'm experiencing tremendous lag when I log into servers with a few mods. I'm talking I send a message in the chat and I see my message show up several minutes later. The same with mining blocks, I mine some stone and they go to my an inventory several ridiculously long minutes later |
09:20 |
CopenBra[m] |
I have a latency of ~800ms but why does that mean things should take MINUTES to happen in Minetest? |
09:20 |
BuckarooBanzai |
CopenBra[m] what server? it depends on the individual server and its load/lag... |
09:20 |
CopenBra[m] |
And if I connect to a vanilla server it's fine, I see chat messages and stuff in my inventory less than a second after talking/mining |
09:21 |
CopenBra[m] |
I've experienced this lag in pandorabox and mt.nixne.st:25585 |
09:23 |
|
proller joined #minetest |
09:24 |
CopenBra[m] |
There's a vanilla minetest server at mt.nixne.st:25589, when I visit it I don't experience any lag besides my latency |
09:25 |
CopenBra[m] |
Sometimes it takes a few seconds for a mined block to appear in my inventory but that's it |
09:26 |
CopenBra[m] |
But I join pandora or mt.nixne.st:25585 and it's unplayable |
09:30 |
BuckarooBanzai |
CopenBra[m] is it only inventory lag or client-lag (slow graphics)? |
09:31 |
BuckarooBanzai |
It does sound like network issues though, do you get frequent timeouts? |
09:33 |
CopenBra[m] |
Only inventory lag. My framerate isn't 60fps but it's the same in multiplayer as it is singleplayer |
09:35 |
CopenBra[m] |
No. I can connect to a server 99% of the time if it exists. |
09:36 |
CopenBra[m] |
I have a ~20mbps bandwidth right now so I think that rules out download speed as the cause of the lag |
09:37 |
CopenBra[m] |
Upload speed is ~0.4mbps though |
09:37 |
CopenBra[m] |
Maybe that's it? |
09:37 |
BuckarooBanzai |
CopenBra[m] i did see something like this before, but it had to do with huge digtron crates in the inventory: any chance it is something like that? |
09:38 |
BuckarooBanzai |
could be the TX speed, can you test that on another line with the same setup? (PC) |
09:38 |
CopenBra[m] |
How do I do that? |
09:40 |
BuckarooBanzai |
CopenBra[m] test it on another internet connection (internet cafe, library, something like that...) |
09:42 |
CopenBra[m] |
Oh. Unfortunately I don't have immediate access to transportation so that'll have to wait. |

21:12 |
CopenBra[m] |
what mods have you written? |
21:14 |

for minetest only this one, but it isnt really 'stable': https://git.gryphno.de/SyrupThinker/minetest-mod-sparktech |

21:25 |
Krock |
kinda like engineering Frankenstein |
21:25 |
nepugia |
CopenBra[m]: could also just take something like my mod and edit it until it no longer works |
21:25 |
nepugia |
really, reading mods and editing them to see the effects is probably the best way to get started |
21:29 |
CopenBra[m] |
hmm |
21:30 |
CopenBra[m] |
are there any mods that make cobblestone explode when exposed to fire or lava? |
21:30 |
nepugia |
Not that i know of, but the tnt mod might be editable to achieve that effect |
21:33 |
Krock |
tnt does that, since it can be ignited by fire |
21:36 |
CopenBra[m] |
hmm |
21:36 |
Daisae |
I dislike how TNT sometimes makes lava now. |
21:36 |
CopenBra[m] |
but it does it instantly |
21:37 |
CopenBra[m] |
I was thinking more of a gradual effect, a cobblestone block gets hotter as it sits next to a fire or lava, as it gets hotter it starts glowing, when it gets hot enough it explodes |
