I get stuck download mods in the MEDIA part and then since the incoming bandwith or something is too high, poof, I get dced from my router |

calcul0n: My original design had a white list like that, which allowed me to call coral a mineral. However, the entire purpose of my new design is that it functions even when default isn't used and even when mods add new minerals. A white list is off the table. |

hi there |
07:48 |
dusko |
i have a question |
07:49 |
dusko |
in my minetest 0.4.15 dev there is only possible to have 23 things in menu |
07:49 |
dusko |
i insterted some mods but there is still 23 items |
07:50 |
dusko |
so, how could i set more place for items in menu |
07:53 |
sfan5 |
which menu are you referring to? |
07:54 |
dusko |
sfan5: menu when i type "i" on keyboard |
07:55 |

sfan5: there it is: http://imgur.com/a/orClK |
07:55 |
dusko |
sfan5: i inserted there few mods but still 23 |
07:56 |

sfan5: there u can see |

you need to make sure the mods are actually enabled and working |

you. are. missing. biome_lib. |
08:10 |
Jupiter_ |
Same error type same mistake |
08:11 |
dusko |
Jupiter_: yes but it fixed other errors |
08:11 |
Jupiter_ |
When you install mods, the "install" part is important, but more important than that is the "dependencies" part, without them, mods won't work, game will break, player will cry |
08:12 |
Jupiter_ |
dusko: it fixed SOME dependencies error but you still lack the mods mentioned in it: mobs and biome_lib as sfan5 said |
08:18 |
dusko |
i have now downloaded and insterted that biome_lib but still got errors. i also changed name from biome_lib-master to biome_lib |
08:19 |
dusko |
i think i fixed error biome_lib, now i must fix "mobs" |
08:19 |

08:23 |

08:24 |

08:25 |

I asked this question earlier this morning, but how can I join a server without the loading "media" killing my internet connection? |
09:07 |
sfan5 |
you don't |
09:08 |
Jupiter_ |
That seems counter-intuitive, how can I join a server then |
09:09 |
sfan5 |
how can i achieve <end goal> without <crucial step>? |
09:09 |
sfan5 |
the answer is you can't |
09:09 |
sfan5 |
a slightly complicated way of avoiding media loading is to install the same sets of mods as the server and run a local game once which will populate the cache |
09:09 |
Jupiter_ |
sfan5: What I want to avoid is the "media" loading absolutely killing my bandwith and (somehow) making me disconnect from my router |
09:10 |
Jupiter_ |
If the incoming/outgoing traffic could be limited I think it would fix this |
09:10 |
sfan5 |
media loading does not kill your bandwidth more than any other download |
09:10 |
sfan5 |
also this is a sign that your router sucks |

But now I got another problem: Since chat prediction got removed in 0.4.15-dev and ALL other versions before showed their own messages directly in the chat, any user with 0.4.15-dev or 0.4.16 now can't see their messages on my server cause I modify all user messages before I sent them and I expected the clients to show their own messages which means the sender gets ignored... if I enable the message for the sender |
09:28 |
IhrFussel |
as well OLD clients will see their messages twice |
09:28 |
red-001 |
IhrFussel, check the clients protocol version |

09:32 |
red-001 |
yes |
09:32 |
IhrFussel |
And what will old clients tell? nil? |
09:32 |
red-001 |
older clients display thier own messages before sending them to the server |
09:33 |
IhrFussel |
Yes but I mean what if I check for <29 ? |
09:33 |
Jupiter_ |
Hmm also, is there a way to check real server population, and not server population, bots included? |
09:33 |
red-001 |
isn't that just the previous check reversed? |
09:34 |
IhrFussel |
Jupiter_, they are not bots, they play on an app that gives them the pre-determined names |
09:34 |
red-001 |
<29: display message before sending it to server |

red-001 |

09:41 |

it should return the correct protocol version |
09:41 |
red-001 |
really, really old clients/servers return 0 |
09:41 |
red-001 |
but I think we already dropped support for those |
09:42 |
IhrFussel |
And to check for the protocol version on each chat message isn't too heavy either? Or should I rather set a table on joinplayer? |
09:42 |
red-001 |
it shouldn't be too heavy |
09:43 |
red-001 |
it's just looking up some data after all |
09:43 |
IhrFussel |
I wonder...does the c++ code store all player data in an array? |
09:44 |
red-001 |
I think every client gets their own c++ object |
09:45 |
IhrFussel |
I have no clue about objects in programming xP |
09:45 |
red-001 |
anyway it shouldn't be an issue to get this data from c++ |
09:45 |
red-001 |
the code does something similar every time it gets a chat message |

Okay I implemented the code and just restarted...let's see if it works :P |

xerox123: you can run as many instances as you want, as long as each one has its own config file and of course its own world dir |
14:43 |
VanessaE |
EDAKIRI: I would not. |
14:44 |

So this isn't an 0.4.16 issue? |
19:42 |
redblade7 |
i can find an older version of the mod and all the nodes will come back? |
19:42 |
redblade7 |
(though I'd have to find old versions of all the dependencies, namely unifieddyes) |
19:42 |
IhrFussel |
redblade7, uhh not sure what's wrong with your mods but all mods work fine on my server and it runs 0.4.16-dev |
19:42 |
red-001 |
did you also update the mod? |
19:42 |
redblade7 |
Yes |
19:42 |
redblade7 |
I always upgrade all the mods when I upgrade to a new version |
19:43 |

that modpack doesn't have beds in it |
19:44 |
VanessaE |
redblade7: it means "statically colored" as in textures with color baked in. |
19:44 |
VanessaE |
as opposed to nodes that are param2-colored |
19:44 |
redblade7 |
https://github.com/minetest-mods/coloredwood/issues/6 |
19:45 |
IhrFussel |
Wait you are NOT talking about the default beds mod then? |
19:45 |
redblade7 |
the two built-in beds work |
19:45 |
redblade7 |
right-clicking causes the desired action |
19:45 |
VanessaE |
fixes for homedecor's books will come soonish |
19:45 |
redblade7 |
but the homedecor ones dont work anymore |
19:45 |
redblade7 |
right click them, nothing happens |
19:45 |
VanessaE |
homedecor's beds don't "sleep" and haven't for a while now |
19:46 |
VanessaE |
code disabled because it's incompatible with default beds mod |
19:46 |
VanessaE |
or was |
19:46 |
redblade7 |
so the bed issue will never be fixed? |
19:46 |
red-001 |
anyway a mod being broken doesn't have anything todo with 0.4.16 |
19:46 |
paramat |
CalebDavis no, a normal serverside mod |
19:47 |
CalebDavis |
ok paramat |
19:49 |
VanessaE |
redblade7: the bed issue will be fixed eventually. |
19:49 |
VanessaE |
as will the books |
19:49 |
VanessaE |
and the problem with colored woods |
19:49 |
VanessaE |
and the glitch in pipeworks' handling of the new "open" chests |
19:49 |
VanessaE |
pull requests are always welcome |
19:49 |
VanessaE |
and anyone with access to those repos is welcome to just fix those issues if I can't get to them |
19:50 |
redblade7 |
so i'm stuck with a mess with no way to downgrade? |
19:50 |
redblade7 |
two messes? |
19:50 |
redblade7 |
i wish there would have been warnings |
19:50 |
VanessaE |
right now, all I care about is that none of my mods nor any of the mods in dreambuilder crash with 0.4.16+corresponding mt_game |
19:50 |
VanessaE |
there WERE warnings. |
19:50 |
redblade7 |
where? |
19:51 |
VanessaE |
on the forum posts |
19:51 |
redblade7 |
all i saw was the nyan cat thing |
19:51 |
redblade7 |
nothing in changelogs |
19:51 |
redblade7 |
nothing in the announcement |
19:51 |
VanessaE |
and builds were made that work with older versions of MT also |
19:51 |
paramat |
it's a mod issue |
19:51 |
VanessaE |
like I said, mods will be fixed. if someone wants to fix them before I do, please do so. |
19:51 |
redblade7 |
so what do you suggest i do to get at least sleeping beds back? |
19:51 |
VanessaE |
until then, if they don't crash, I'm happy. |
19:51 |
redblade7 |
can i use an old version? |
19:51 |
redblade7 |
at at what commit? |
19:52 |
VanessaE |
*facepalm* |
19:52 |
VanessaE |
I don't remember the commit ID. try the 0.4.15 tag. |
19:52 |
redblade7 |
0.4.15 era coloredwood and homedecor will work? |
19:52 |
VanessaE |
yes, they should. |
19:52 |
paramat |
MT changelogs and announcements have nothing to do with mod issues |
19:52 |
VanessaE |
but then you'll see unknown nodes for everything that already converted over |
19:54 |
redblade7 |
what about unified dyes? |
19:54 |
paramat |
the warnings would have been in the homedecor/dreambuilder threads |
19:54 |
redblade7 |
will unifieddyes have to be downgraded too? |
19:55 |
redblade7 |
there isn't much using coloredwood as the two servers i upgraded are fairly new |
19:55 |
VanessaE |
you'd have to downgrade everything yes |
19:55 |
redblade7 |
but homedecor is what i'm concerned with |
19:55 |
VanessaE |
or you could just *wait for fixes* |
19:55 |
VanessaE |
(sound familiar? :P ) |
19:56 |
VanessaE |
if you downgrade a mod that uses unified dyes, I *THINK* you can just use it as-is |
19:56 |
VanessaE |
but if you have to downgrade unified dyes, then everything that uses it will probably have to be downgraded also |
19:56 |
redblade7 |
well i can "wait for fixes" to coloredwood on two of my servers |
19:56 |
redblade7 |
but i need working beds or people will be angry |
19:57 |
VanessaE |
then use mt_game beds. |
19:57 |
VanessaE |
or submit a fix for homedecor |
19:57 |
VanessaE |
I don't have time to fix it right now |
19:57 |
redblade7 |
wait...so that wont be fixed? |

but i can expect a short-term fix for the coloredwood issue? |
19:59 |
redblade7 |
or is that also long-term |
19:59 |
VanessaE |
no, don't expect any fixes in the short term |
19:59 |

for now, just dig the affected nodes and replace them with something appropriate. |

redblade7, can you just use minetest.register_alias and apply it to be an alias for MTG bed? |

redblade7 |
then you lose all the colored beds though :( i'd rather just wait until vanessae fixes it and put "you can't sleep in colored beds anymore" at news |
22:59 |

but it's the coloredwood that had chaos |
22:59 |

but this is my one year+ old server |

Alright. I have a mod that registers a lot of underground biomes and to do this I have to clear the default biomes. After doing this, my biomes work but now the default ones are all meshed togther. Here's the code https://github.com/CoderForTheBetter/geominer/blob/master/mapgen.lua |

I've tried registring the decorations again but taht doesn't work. All the plants and trees spawn in the wrong biomes and blocks. |

I'm at a loss on what to do to fix this problem. The code above is pretty far down the file. |

Hey. Give me a sec to type this out. |

Here's the code: https://github.com/CoderForTheBetter/geominer/blob/master/mapgen.lua scroll down far. After clearing the default biomes and re-registering them and mine, all of the decorations (plants, trees) are spawning where ever they want. The decorations do not spawn in the correct biomes. I have tried re-registering them, but it does not work. For example, grass now spawns on sand, and trees spawn on hill sides. Any idea what could be going on here? |

I have tried every combination of registering things, but I can never fix the problem. |
