paramat: What about what I said in -dev? |
02:32 |
nolsen |
oh, you didn't see it. |
02:32 |
paramat |
mgv7 terrain is fairly stable yes |
02:32 |
paramat |
i did |
02:33 |
nolsen |
paramat: Strange. |
02:33 |
nolsen |
I just see too much oceans, extreme hills, sometimes floating islands, and not even deserts, or plainlands. |
02:33 |
paramat |
mgv7 has more smooth flatish land than mgv6 |
02:33 |
nolsen |
not enough deserts* |
02:34 |
paramat |
deserts and grass plains are balanced with other biomes, but over a large scale, 1000s of nodes |
02:34 |
paramat |
mgv7 has floaty stuff due to 3D noise |
02:35 |
nolsen |
So, you just have to explore really far to find it.. |
02:35 |
nolsen |
That wouldn't be bad I guess, if mapgen wasn't slow. |
02:35 |
paramat |
yes, mgv7 is on a larger scale than mgv6 |
02:35 |
nolsen |
But I am using fly + fast move. |
02:37 |
paramat |
core mapgen isn't slow |
02:38 |
nolsen |
Well, it either taking some time to generate, or the server is limiting me. |
02:38 |
nolsen |
Because it seems to not generate unless I am very close. |
02:38 |
nolsen |
or take a while. |
02:39 |
paramat |
server may have slow mods such as moretrees |
02:39 |
paramat |
any lua mapgen mod will slow down core mapgen too |

Go 1.7 has substantial performance improvements, it just landed in Arch |
11:23 |
Megaf |
Amazing that OpenJDK was so fast |
11:23 |
Calinou |
both compile time and run time |
11:23 |
Calinou |
also yes, typically OpenJDK is faster than Mono… |
11:23 |
Calinou |
despite most people saying "Java is horrible" :) |
11:23 |
Megaf |
depends if its well compiled or not |
11:23 |
Megaf |
java virtual machine can be fast, very fast |
11:24 |
Calinou |
however I'm quite sure Rust uses less RAM than OpenJDK does |

I'm not sure but I'm kinda assuming less objects per block means more server load? I mean..that's what I'm seeing...I had it at 35 before and the load was max 1.0 now with 25 objects allowed it's at 1.5 |
12:53 |
IhrFussel |
If you wonder why I would even reduce the objects limit: I have a serious lag problem and have no clue what causes it, so I tried the objects limit but that didn't help at all |

i think some mod(s) are responsible for the lag due to constant processing of information overloading the game engine :/ |
13:16 |
Darkside_ |
with no mods installed at all the game runs totally smooth with barely if any lag at all :0 |
13:21 |
IhrFussel |
Darkside_, so the game engine has an internal limit how much it can process? Cause the rest of the machine doesn't lag it must be the game itself |

yeah might as wel be, im not an expert on it, just putting up some info that might help pinpoint the problem ;) |

I tried to make a Lua script that would output all areas (for the areas mod) owned by a specific user. |

cheapie |
The actual output? "lightgreylightgreylightgreylightgreylightgreylightgrey..." |
15:35 |
agaran |
interesting.. are you sure it wasnt just while true; do print lightgrey; end? |
15:35 |

(the issue, by the way was that I had put name instead of v.name, and apparently there's a global variable created by something there holding "lightgrey") |
