What do you think about having a server that is by invite only? Basically, it would be a server that doesn't advertise to the centralized server list, so to find it, you would need to receive an invite from someone who knows about it (anyone who knows can invite). |

the takers kinda fling them out if they have no input, but not very far |
09:53 |

that might be something interesting to add, however there is the issue of velocity/acceleration not going down by themselves, a really annoying mt bug |

LemonLake do you have a protection mod running alongside your testing ? |
10:44 |
LemonLake |
not running |
10:45 |
LemonLake |
my miners work swell for ~80 nodes |
10:45 |
LemonLake |
then they stop |
10:45 |
TenPlus1 |
they prolly go outside the active area around the player |
10:45 |
LemonLake |
node.name doesn't even equals ignore |
10:45 |
LemonLake |
so they're loaded just fine |
10:45 |
TenPlus1 |
need to up that in the minetest.conf file |
10:46 |
LemonLake |
hm |
10:46 |
LemonLake |
the abm never runs |
10:46 |
LemonLake |
well, the abm doesn't run, or my for loop reaches the limit very prematurely |
10:47 |
VanessaE |
LemonLake: that's active block range |
10:47 |
TenPlus1 |
if you are testing for is_protected you need to make sure a protection mod is loaded otherwise the command will do nothing but return false |
10:47 |
LemonLake |
but I'm standing right on top of the node? |
10:47 |
LemonLake |
no, the abm dies after the miner has dug 80 nodes |
10:47 |
LemonLake |
oh i see |
10:48 |
LemonLake |
they just got turned off for a strange reason |
10:48 |
TenPlus1 |
in the default game, is_protected does nothing, it's just there for checking... you need to load a suitable mod to make is_protected work |
10:48 |
LemonLake |
TenPlus1: is_protected works fine |
10:48 |
LemonLake |
the issue was that the ignore check was strangely skipped |
10:49 |
TenPlus1 |
ah |
10:49 |
LemonLake |
and then it reached the diggable check, thus turning the miner off because ignore is not diggable |
10:50 |
LemonLake |
okay, forceloading works |
10:50 |
TenPlus1 |
kl |
10:50 |
LemonLake |
i need to return after loading the block, because otherwise it's not diggable |
10:51 |
LemonLake |
it works! :D |
10:51 |
TenPlus1 |
:) what did u change |
10:51 |
LemonLake |
I wasn't forceloading, so when it reached 'ignore' the miner turned off (it has an off state) |
10:52 |
VanessaE |
oh no, LemonLake made something work. :) |
10:52 |
LemonLake |
But after forceloading, 'ignore' still existed |
10:52 |
LemonLake |
so again, it switched off |
10:52 |
LemonLake |
solution was to simply return after forceloading, and then give the miner a jumpstart using a mesecons lever |
10:54 |
TenPlus1 |
minetest will soon have a huge industrial sector running on servers :p |

Minetest performs well actually |
18:09 |
VanessaE |
I saw the craziest thing today, speaking of. 45 fps, 240m range, and I was cryptomining on the card at the time, too (R9 280X, pushing 3 MH/s while the game was running) |
18:09 |
VanessaE |
with default textures, no filters, no waving stuff |
18:10 |
VanessaE |
really surprised the shit outta me |
18:11 |
Calinou |
The game was run in a “fake fullscreen†window with compositing enabled, you can get slightly better FPS by disabling compositing. The game seems to be CPU-limited, the graphics card isn't fully used. |
18:11 |
Calinou |
CPU limit is obvious for that kind of game, but I'll still point out |
18:11 |
VanessaE |
yes, same here. |
18:11 |
VanessaE |
(the CPU limit) |
18:12 |
Calinou |
I used to play with fsaa = 4, pretty but a bit blurred |
18:12 |
VanessaE |
the question is, what exactly is the CPU doing anyway? |
18:12 |
VanessaE |
or rather, what's the CPU doing that can't be turned over to the GPU instead? |
18:13 |
Calinou |
batches sent to the GPU? |
18:13 |
Calinou |
this has a CPU cost |
18:13 |
Calinou |
this has a CPU cost |
18:14 |
Calinou |
I tried FSAA 0, 2 and 4, they have similar FPS, probably due to CPU limit |
18:14 |
Sokomine |
probably. in singleplayer, it seems chunks are generated much faster than i can see them |
18:14 |
EvergreenTree |
I have noticed that 0.4.10 uses up a lot mroe cpu then earlier versions |
18:15 |
EvergreenTree |
it still runs the same speed, it just throttles my cpu (only when outside of building) |
18:15 |
Calinou |
Sokomine, the game tries to send an insane amount of chunks by default |
18:15 |
Calinou |
(10 around player, generate 6) |
18:15 |
Calinou |
Carbone sends 5, generates 5… way saner |
18:15 |
Calinou |
0.3.x sent 4, generated 3, felt a bit short, but was generally fine |
18:15 |
Calinou |
was very lightweight :) |
18:16 |
Calinou |
for range 10 to be useful, you must use a view range of at least 160, very few people use such a thing |

Jousway joined #minetest |

18:17 |

18:17 |
EvergreenTree |
why does the range not set the distance you can see? |
18:17 |
EvergreenTree |
it only gives a rough idea |
18:17 |
EvergreenTree |
I wish there was a definite setting which says "see this many chunks" |
18:18 |
Sokomine |
i'd love to be able to see 160 blocks far. and in a way, i do wish for that. at least for occasional overviews |
18:19 |
Sokomine |
perhaps, yes. when loading a map on view "far", my fps usally collapse when i take a look at what's already loaded. they tend to recover once that mountain or hill in front of me gets rendered and part of the view is blocked |

Calinou, how I remove furnace? |
21:18 |
Calinou |
change your computer time to fix SSL bug |
21:19 |
LemonLake |
good idea |
21:19 |
LemonLake |
but then it's not secure |
21:19 |
LemonLake |
it's not a bug, it's just expired |
21:19 |
Calinou |
it's not like you're browsing without HTTPS |
21:20 |
Calinou |
eth0, open games/carbone/mods/default/nodes.lua, at line 1821, add --[[, at line 1913, add --]] |
21:20 |
Calinou |
to comment out the furnace ABM |
21:21 |
Calinou |
that's for the non-locked furnaces |
21:21 |
Calinou |
for locked furnaces, another ABM is used |
21:21 |
Calinou |
but I presume you're using a non-locked furnace here |
21:21 |
eth0 |
now I was using th locked one |
21:21 |
LemonLake |
Calinou: or fix it yourself? |
21:22 |
Calinou |
no time for now, heh |
21:22 |
Calinou |
eth0, then add --[[ at line 1702 and --]] at line 1812 |
21:23 |
Calinou |
save, run the game |
21:23 |
Calinou |
the furnace will stop acting (won't smelt anything) |
21:23 |
eth0 |
wow nice |
21:24 |
Calinou |
take items out, then re-enable the ABM by removing the comment marks |
21:24 |
Calinou |
and next time make sure not all slots are full :P |
21:24 |

anyone having issues with ssl on the forums using firefox do this: go to Options -> Advanced -> View Certificates -> Servers -> Add Exception |
21:24 |
crazyR |
then type in the full domain |
21:24 |
LemonLake |
i'd rather wait for a new certificate. |

crazyR, cmake . -DRELEASE_TYPE="Debug"; cd src; make -j2; cd ../bin; gdb ./minetest; “runâ€; “bt full†|
21:34 |
VanessaE |
crazyR: make sure your copy of Minetest is a debug build (idk which ones are), then just 'gdb minetest' and when it presents you with a pro....... |
21:35 |
VanessaE |
yeah, what Calinou said. |
21:35 |
* VanessaE |
