though back to fences/rock-climbing, how about grip? like the ability to grip sides and climb slowly |
00:07 |
mauvebic |
along with crouch for 1 node high tunnels, that would be cool |

Yeah, crouch and climbing could be useful. Requires client changes though to get more map node definition data. Could also be used in conjuction with wielding a tool with groups like suction, sticky, sharp. |
00:33 |
mauvebic |
well crouch shouldn't be too dificult, its basically laying the player on his stomach as opposed to standing up to go down 1m wide sewers |
00:33 |
mauvebic |
a hack would be to change the collision box |
00:44 |

I wish that the player physics update included block friction |

Can someone try to export my messed up mesh properly? It renders correctly in Blender but when in Minetest, the animations aren't even running at the same frames as given in player.lua. |

I did not add an init.lua. I simply overwrote player.x |

instead of a complex series of things, minetest could just scan the chunk, to scan for non air blocks, then check above it if it's air, then the block is the surface, and the node you want to add to the surface is added |
02:38 |
jordan4ibanez |
how big is a chunk? |
02:38 |
Exio |
chunk_size in the .conf |

02:39 |
jordan4ibanez |
Wow, I think I said something intelligent |
02:39 |
VanessaE |
a chunk is 80x80x80. |
02:39 |
VanessaE |
a mapblock is 16x16x16 |
02:40 |
jordan4ibanez |
which generates? a chunk or a mapblock? |
02:40 |
VanessaE |
mapblocks, but they're generated in chunk-sized sections. |
02:40 |
jordan4ibanez |
what does on_generated use? |
02:40 |
VanessaE |
register_on_generated acts on chunks I believe |
02:40 |
jordan4ibanez |
hmm this could be very interesting |
02:41 |

If this acts how I think it does, we could be in business for faster surface node generation |

I finally created a fast way to find the surface of a chunk (basically) |
05:18 |
VanessaE |
you should have looked at how I did it in plants_lib |
05:19 |
VanessaE |
basically, find_nodes_in_area(chunk minp, chunk maxp, "default:dirt_with_grass"); iterate through the returned list checking for air above each position. |
05:19 |
jordan4ibanez |
This isn't 100% complete |
05:20 |
jordan4ibanez |
it scans the center of the chunk for the tallest node, then generates from the bottom up and saves cpu not trying to do the rest |
05:20 |
jordan4ibanez |
http://i.imgur.com/MhQWdLN.jpg |
05:20 |
jordan4ibanez |
Look at dem flowers |
05:21 |
VanessaE |
my way takes advantage of the fact that grass will only ever appear adjacent to air :-) |
05:21 |
VanessaE |
(or with the occasional plantlike object such as junglegrass) |
05:21 |
jordan4ibanez |
nice, version 4 will get 100% of the surfaces, but it will be the slowest |
05:22 |
jordan4ibanez |
I wrote an api, which contains the versions, fastest to slowest |
05:25 |

Holy crap |
05:28 |
jordan4ibanez |
It actually works |
05:32 |
jordan4ibanez |
for me http://i.imgur.com/FhOuKNh.jpg THIS adds on 2-5 seconds per chunk generated or mapblock or whatever |
05:32 |
jordan4ibanez |
the chunk on the left was generated with version 3 |
05:33 |
jordan4ibanez |
it scans the top, until it meets a block, then works it's way up from the bottom of the chunk to find surface |
05:34 |
jordan4ibanez |
Who wants to try it? :] |
05:34 |
kaeza |
jordan4ibanez, 2-5 secs/chunk == meh, 2-5 secs/mapblock == bad |
05:35 |
jordan4ibanez |
kaeza: I was getting that while recording, I closed bandicam and it only adds on 1-2 seconds per whatever generated |

also, pilzadam, what is the chunk size that on_generated uses? |
16:48 |
jordan4ibanez |
16x16? |
16:50 |
PilzAdam |
the mapgenerator generates 5 blocks with 16x16x16 nodes each |
16:50 |
PilzAdam |
so its 80x80x80 |
16:52 |
hmmmm |
it's 16^3 * chunksize^3 |
16:52 |
hmmmm |
you can set chunksize to anything you'd like, as long as it's greater than 0 |
16:53 |
hmmmm |
by default, it happens to be 5 |
16:53 |
hmmmm |
a larger chunksize will give you more clay thanks to the asstarded way clay generates in the default on_generate() |

aside from detecting the existence of a node, you can also look for the existence of a texture file for it, or do what I do with my homedecor doors and check for the existence of some random function that was added around the same time as the nodes. |

sfan5: My only problem is that it doesn't work on my webspace as it should, even if it performs perfectly locally |
22:34 |
Jeija |
the webspace seems to have some trouble with ob_flush(), and anything the flushes the buffer in general |
22:34 |
Jeija |
Which means there is no progress displayed |
22:34 |
Jeija |
That can be very annoying as it can take quite a long time |

22:35 |
sfan5 |
also just the image for worldedit is not enough |
22:35 |
Jeija |
I'm already caching minetest, some major mods like mesecons may also be cached; but I don't want to update all the mods all the time |
22:35 |

what about an iframe to the worldedit thread |

It's just for testing, that image |

working on this: 'clock_gettime@@GLIBC_2.2.5' is defined in DSO /lib64/librt.so.1 so try adding it to the linker command line |
23:42 |
khonkhortisan |
oh |
23:44 |
khonkhortisan |
Can't you just set the lcd to the same channel as the rtc? |
23:44 |
STHGOM |
i dont understand what this means: For the display, just send your text on the channel you selected when right-clicking it, in order to retrieve time or light data, send a "GET" to RTC or light sensor on the selected channel. |
23:45 |
khonkhortisan |
I can't try it myself, but it looks like you have to right-click to select an rtc channel, make the luacontroller send "GET" on that channel, get a response, then resend that on the lcd channel |
23:47 |
STHGOM |
um. |
23:48 |
STHGOM |
i was thinking is would be like luaC talking to each other |
23:48 |
STHGOM |
the lcd would already print the digiline message |
