00:19 |

00:19 |

00:23 |
NekoGloop |
it's /set spawn_point something something something |
00:23 |

NekoGloop: write "set" in the command field, and then "spawn_point something something" in that other field |

NakedFury |
sokomine thanks for that mod |
00:34 |
Uberi |
player detectors are a bit OP, if you ask me |
00:35 |
Uberi |
for example, you can avoid stepping on pressure plates |
00:35 |
Uberi |
avoid punching switches or levers |
00:35 |
Uberi |
just not push the buttons |
00:35 |
Uberi |
but walk near a certain area and bam, suddenly the trap trips |
00:35 |
Uberi |
no way to see it coming, no way to avoid it |
00:37 |
Uberi |
but then, people do make some pretty neat stuff with it |
00:40 |
NekoGloop |
often a pressure plate can be avoided simply by not stopping on it :P |
00:40 |
sema4 |
tally ho |
00:40 |
Uberi |
exactly, or jumping right over it |
00:40 |
Uberi |
but not player detectors |
00:41 |
Uberi |
you can make absolutely undetectable traps with them |
00:41 |
Uberi |
TNT ball + player detector = off limits zone |
00:41 |
Uberi |
there is no way of removing it except through pushing it apart using pistons |

what are you talking about sokomine? |

oh, it has recycle. just put your blocks in the recycle field |

you have to put 1 full block into the input slot so that the machine knows what material it should work on |

i went around a bit in calinous world on 30003. it seems to work. the conifers look nice - but there are leaves of them lying around after they grew. which version of them is it? a safe one that doesn't destroy houses? mine hasn't been harmed in any way so far |
05:19 |

thanks for installing my mods! as far as i can tell they work fine |
05:21 |

i think the trees are suposed to do that, i think the saplings after hitting the ground start to grow kinda like a seed so if there are a bunch it means one tree spawned them all like in real life |

16:48 |
markveidemanis |
allows a chat command to reset a predefined area of the server map to an also predefined default |
16:48 |
PilzAdam |
worldedit? |
16:48 |
markveidemanis |
not a chat command |
16:49 |
markveidemanis |
to reset for example: a bombbing ground |

Bambing |
16:49 |
markveidemanis |
... |
16:49 |
markveidemanis |
Bombing |
16:50 |
rubenwardy |
you basically want to delete chunks of the map so they can regen |
16:50 |
markveidemanis |
Yep kinda |
16:51 |
markveidemanis |
But use a chatcommand |
16:51 |

and a privilege |

maybe to reset a *grief* challenge |

16:52 |

Note that in some cases you will stumble upon things that are not contained |
17:22 |
Oblivion1500 |
in these tables (eg. when a mod has been removed). Always check for |

a being the group |

Hello, i’m making a tutorial for Minetest modding. And I see that the parameter «is_ground_content» is «currently used for anything» in API |
18:09 |
Ipos |
But I saw it many times in a lot a mods… |
18:09 |
NekoGloop |
it is not currently used for anything atm. |
18:09 |
jordach-iPad |
Ipos, thats useless atm |
18:09 |
NekoGloop |
solid blocks have it. |
18:10 |
jordach-iPad |
*me hates my slow fingers on the ipad* |
18:10 |
Ipos |
So what is planned for that? (that was the question) |
18:10 |
jordach-iPad |
Currently nothing, perhaps in time it might be a mapgen function |
18:10 |
Ipos |
ok |
18:11 |
jordach-iPad |
When i get home thursday, i might prune minetest_game from that useless lines |
18:11 |
jordach-iPad |
Those* |
18:11 |
Ipos |
So I just should recommand is_ground_content for solid block. Thanks! |
18:11 |
Ipos |
blocks* |
18:11 |
jordach-iPad |
Ipos. I wouldnt reccomend it for anything |
18:12 |
NekoGloop |
why |
18:12 |
jordach-iPad |
Since its a useless line, why have it there? |
18:12 |
NekoGloop |
it's not like it slows anything down or hinders anything |
18:12 |
NekoGloop |
for the possibility that it may do something in a future update/mod |
18:12 |
jordach-iPad |
If a line of code does nothing, remove it |
18:12 |
jordach-iPad |
Nekogloop, its not like you cant add it back in |
18:12 |
jordach-iPad |
:P |
18:12 |
Ipos |
jordach-iPad: as a pytonnist, I agree ^^ |
18:12 |
NekoGloop |
and that would be unneccessarily tedious. |
18:13 |
jordach-iPad |
Nekogloop, not really |
18:13 |
jordach-iPad |
Five mins at best depending on my workload on thursday |

well in all their timelapse videos there seems to be 20 oir 30 of them building |
18:30 |

we can do the same with 2 people lol |
18:30 |
mauvebic |
so obivously MT is likely superior just on the count of that |
18:31 |

if it takes 20 or 30 of them to do what 2 or 3 of us can do lol |

I have been at begining tooo ... but once mobf's models hit a size of 10mb I started to think about other formats than .x |
20:58 |

20:58 |
sapier |
use .b3d if you want animation .x files literaly explode if animated |

mauvebic |
im just having fun flying vipers lol which is more than what the bsg fan community ever finished lol |
20:59 |

yeah i guess cuz i havent animated my models i haven't really noticed the size difference |
20:59 |
mauvebic |
not *my* models but you know what i mean lol |
21:00 |

of course :-) even for 3d player model difference is a factor 3 |
21:00 |
mauvebic |
im guessing they went with .x because its not proprietary? |
21:00 |
sapier |
it's not quite surprising .x is a textual format while .b3d is binary |

yes of course irrlicht supports b3d so minetest does too |

mauvebic |
i know next to nothing about either engine lol |
21:01 |
sapier |
works as charm just replace .x by .b3d |
21:02 |
mauvebic |
but does it make a diff for non animate models? |
21:02 |
sapier |
haven't tested but as more polygons as bigger the difference I assume |
21:03 |
mauvebic |
viper is 445kb |
21:03 |
sapier |
text isn't quite efficient to store a number e.g. 1.9999911111 -> 4bytes binary but 12 in text form |
21:03 |
mauvebic |
can you export the models with textures in brd? |
21:03 |
mauvebic |
*b3d |
21:03 |
sapier |
my guess is <200kb in b3d format |
21:04 |
sapier |
no textures aren't inlined |
21:04 |
sapier |
but irrlicht trys to open them ... failing ... still minetest loads textures separate |
21:05 |
sapier |
so except of an error message there isn't any difference ... i think this error message is in .x too |
21:05 |
mauvebic |
UV texture mapping sounds like a pain |
21:05 |
mauvebic |
and one of the models already has texture |
21:05 |
sapier |
if you have a blender model you won't have to change anythin except exporting to .b3d instead of .x |

for starters modern roads has a dozen or so asphalt nodes |
21:14 |

there should be 1 with stripes seperate - easier for the cars to track |

21:16 |
kaeza |
mauvebic: ask webdesigner to add a 'road' group to all relevant nodes |
21:16 |
mauvebic |
because the roads mod would also need a hill-like asphalt node and that means twice as many nodes for every stripe |
21:17 |
markveidemanis |
remember, think IRL |
21:17 |
kaeza |
I don't think so |
21:17 |
kaeza |
the only ones really needed would be full asphalt and asphalt with side line |
21:17 |
mauvebic |
anyways i wanna take my version of the ufo mod and adapt it for cars and elevators (and maybe trains) too |
21:17 |

i think that this one is ready, now im workin on birch tree |
21:18 |

the other way round if you try to get features to core that are required for mobs, those features may be usefull for other things too |
21:32 |
kaeza |
at least the most time consuming tasks |
21:32 |

e.g. a line of sight check ... in lua it's a performance nightmare |

21:34 |

(basically) |
21:34 |
mauvebic |
so the NPC's can find... other players? |
21:34 |
kaeza |
yeah |
21:34 |
kaeza |
but not behind walls |
21:34 |
mauvebic |
get_entities_within_radius then |
21:34 |
mauvebic |
hmmm |
21:34 |
sapier |
I've written a patch a year ago ... maybe I'll port it to latest I assume it's chances to get included are way better |
21:34 |
mauvebic |
well i had to do that with bullets lol |
21:34 |
mauvebic |
they were going through walls to hit me |
21:34 |
mauvebic |
my wife would have none of it |
21:35 |
sapier |
I've implemented it in lua for mobf ... but it really hurts :-) |
21:35 |
mauvebic |
you could hardcode a limit on the number of entities no? |
21:35 |
sapier |
why? |
21:36 |
mauvebic |
well whats a nice way of saying some users are dumb? |
21:36 |
NekoGloop_ |
some users are intellectually challenged. |
21:36 |
mauvebic |
they load a map up of npcs then complain about memory usage lol |
21:36 |
sapier |
:-) if entities are implemented correctly minetest can handle quite a lot |
21:38 |
mauvebic |
sure but the thing with limited hardware is going from 2d to 3d means less entities |
21:38 |
mauvebic |
and 3d to animated 3d means you have to cut down the number even more |
21:38 |
sapier |
and i know there are far more ways do do it wrong than there are to do it right .. i must have tried any wrong way to find a reasonable good one |
21:39 |
mauvebic |
ah hell sometimes i can rewrite the same mod four or five times before i settle on it |
21:39 |
Muadtralk |
a thousand ways not to make a lightbulb sapier? |
21:39 |
sapier |
a entity os only a reference to a model? if it's 1k memory usage you can have thousands of it without any problem |
21:39 |
mauvebic |
so its not so much the number of entities as the number of different models you have loaded? |
21:40 |
mauvebic |
see even i didn't know that lol |
21:40 |
sapier |
yes number of different models matters |
21:40 |
sapier |
size of models matters too |
21:40 |
NekoGloop_ |
if that's the case then make some mobs that are just variations on the player |
21:40 |
sapier |
but even more matters what is done in those entities on_step handlers |
21:41 |
mauvebic |
you can use timers so that on_step need not necessarily mean every step |
21:41 |
mauvebic |
i had to do that with npc's that shoot bullets because i was getting machined-gunned |
21:42 |
sapier |
timers? those are global or aren't they? |
21:42 |
mauvebic |
set it as a member variable of the entity |
21:42 |
mauvebic |
self.timer = self.timer + dtime |
21:42 |
sapier |
don't need them as on_step has a dtime submitted |
21:43 |
sapier |
ok :-) same thing but different naming |
21:43 |
mauvebic |
yeah |
21:43 |
mauvebic |
basically if you dont use dtime your onstep function is running at every step |
21:43 |
sapier |
yes I use dtime to reduce load too in mobf |
21:43 |
mauvebic |
thats how 3 bullets became 300 coming from my mpc lol |
