it would make you use all the unused metals you have stocked |
04:57 |
VanessaE |
ohhh |
04:57 |
VanessaE |
so you mean more like a general corrosion mod. |
04:57 |
khonkhortisan |
yeah, we already have that other water-growing stuff |
04:58 |
NakedFury |
and it could be set to be so a metal item would have to be almost completely cover in water to start rusting |
04:58 |
khonkhortisan |
doesn't have to touch water, does it? |
04:58 |
VanessaE |
I say it needs to be near water. |
04:58 |
VanessaE |
at least, for an in-world node that should rust |
04:59 |
khonkhortisan |
if you built a big metal cube, would only the outside rust? |
04:59 |
VanessaE |
a solid metal cube? well IRL such a thing would eventually rust through after a long LONG time |
05:00 |
VanessaE |
but a sheetmetal cube? 10 years tops if it's unprotected, 20-30 if it's painted. |
05:01 |
NakedFury |
add rust to items too |
05:01 |
khonkhortisan |
I have a waterbottle with what looks like a keyring through the top and I noticed it rusted |
05:06 |
NakedFury |
would it be possible to make a lua hook for player reach so it can be edited? so later when combat is better weapons with long reach like spears and almost no reach like daggers can be added and work as intended |
05:13 |
VanessaE |
poke at Taoki about that :-) |
05:13 |
VanessaE |
she does have plans to show the wielded item/weapon/tool, so maybe |
05:17 |
NakedFury |
but change the reach of the player? like instead of reaching I think 6 blocks in front of you you can only do maybe 2 with hands and it changes depending on items? |
05:22 |
khonkhortisan |
then different sizes of tools would actually mean something |
05:26 |
VanessaE |
ah, I see what you mean |
05:26 |
VanessaE |
I don't see any reason why that couldn't be added, but I don't know the engine at all, let alone where such a change would need to be made. |
05:30 |
khonkhortisan |
I know the engine well enough to know that rails cheat when compared to nodeboxes for diagonal faces |
05:31 |
VanessaE |
heh |
05:38 |
VanessaE |
dare I ask how it cheats? :-) |
05:41 |
khonkhortisan |
A face of a nodebox is locked to an xy/yz/zx direction. A rail can go in the x(yz)/z(xz) directions. The problem isn't in the 3d, it's well capable of diagonal faces. The problem is in minetest, where it forces most faces to be on axes. |

07:36 |
VanessaE |
I believe you have to do this: |
07:36 |
hohoho |
without any known documentation that im aware of I have to guess |
07:36 |
VanessaE |
bottom layer: |
07:36 |

C C C C C |
07:38 |
VanessaE |
C C C C C = cobble or really anything non-flammable. |

07:39 |
VanessaE |
- C W C - W = Water, L = lava, G = geothermal device |
07:39 |
VanessaE |
- - C - - C = cobble |
07:39 |
khonkhortisan |
text art made me look over here |
07:39 |
VanessaE |
and then open the center spot in the bottom layer right under the geothermal device and run wires straight down and out to your receivers. |
07:39 |
VanessaE |
ascii art ftw :-) |
07:40 |
khonkhortisan |
I would've said ascii art but I would've risked someone saying it wasn't ascii |
07:40 |
hohoho |
so.. 2 x 5 pad of cobble? |
07:41 |
hohoho |
oops 3 x 5* |
07:41 |
VanessaE |
5x5. |
07:41 |
khonkhortisan |
5x2x5 |
07:41 |
VanessaE |
but you can cut away the cobble you don't need of course. |
07:41 |
VanessaE |
as long as you have the lava, water, geothermal device, and a suitable water/lava barrier in place as shown above. |
07:42 |
khonkhortisan |
such as a cobble plus on the bottom layer |
07:42 |
VanessaE |
yes |
07:46 |
hohoho |
well seems I got it working.. briefly |
07:46 |
hohoho |
obsidian mod turns the lava to obsidian |
07:46 |
hohoho |
lol |
07:46 |
VanessaE |
heh |
07:46 |
VanessaE |
you gotta place the geothermal device and lava/water barriers first :-) |
07:46 |
VanessaE |
then run the wire |
07:47 |
VanessaE |
then add the water and lava. |
07:47 |

hohoho |
I did as per instructions but lava and water "too close" |
07:49 |
VanessaE |
huh. |
07:50 |
VanessaE |
well time to ditch the obsidian mod ;-) |
07:51 |

Hi, OldCoder |
13:18 |

division into tables with relational databases and foreign keys helps you reduce search time. If for each and every value you must search the whole database (is that not the case with k-v stores?) then come it's faster? |

Also, I don't want to seem ungrateful but I don't understand how people like VanessaE and other minetest devs can be willing to put so much time into deving a game, unless they juggle time better than I do and still have other projects that they work on. I guess they may be spending the time i spend playing it on deving it. But still, what's the motivation? |

Will minetest run on it? |
13:43 |

rubenwardy, 32 MB RAM is awfully low. perhaps if you had a dedicated graphics card |

13:45 |

PilzAdam: It doesn't work: minetest.registered_nodes["whatever"].test = "test" print(minetest.registered_nodes["whatever"].test) --> Doesn't output "test", error |
13:45 |
paxcoder |
rubenwardy, if you could use all of that to store game data, you could only store less than 1024 blocks (because you need to store keys too) |
13:45 |
paxcoder |
actually, no |
13:46 |
PilzAdam |
Jeija, you have to copy the minetest.registered_nodes table by hand (with a loop or so) |
13:46 |
rubenwardy |
I think i should try it with 0.3.1 |
13:46 |
paxcoder |
well, i don't know how a single block looks like |

rubenwardy, nvm, ignore me. but i think you won't be able to run it |

But can I actually write it again? |
13:46 |

Jeija, and then pass it to minetest.register_node(":"..name |

Depends what you need. |
15:54 |
KikaRz |
i want a smooth one |
15:54 |
NakedFury |
just go with ubuntu |
15:54 |
KikaRz |
that dont requires much |
15:54 |
PilzAdam |
if you have a good PC use Kubuntu |
15:54 |
Zeg9 |
Anyway, then you can switch without reinstalling |
15:54 |
KikaRz |
no , i dont have |
15:55 |
Zeg9 |
Lubuntu for a really simple one |
15:55 |
Zeg9 |
Ubuntu is quite good too |
15:55 |
KikaRz |
i have a bad computer... a normal graphics card (not that newer ones), no OpenGL in windows, In linux a bit. |
15:55 |
KikaRz |
but it has Unity |
15:55 |
KikaRz |
and Unity sucks |
15:55 |
Zeg9 |
Then Lubuntu or Xubuntu |
15:55 |
Zeg9 |
if xubuntu still exists |
15:56 |
KikaRz |
xubuntu dont exists in this thing |
15:56 |
VanessaE |
Xubuntu definitely exists. |
15:56 |
VanessaE |
I use it. |
15:56 |
KikaRz |
Which version is it? |
15:56 |
KikaRz |
12.05 or 12.10? |
15:56 |
Zeg9 |
Is it still "official" ? |
15:56 |
VanessaE |
I use 12.04 |
15:57 |
KikaRz |
12.04.1 LST? |
15:57 |
VanessaE |
Zeg9: afaik none of the variants it "official" except Edubuntu I think. |
15:57 |
KikaRz |
downloading wubi of ubuntu |
15:57 |
KikaRz |
12.04.1 |
15:57 |
VanessaE |
but it's sill current anyway |
15:57 |
Zeg9 |
I recently heard Lubuntu and Kubuntu were "official" but actually, who cares lol |
15:57 |
KikaRz |
i cant see it in 12.10. |
15:57 |
Zeg9 |
Or use debian/arch/mint/any of the others |
15:58 |
VanessaE |
dom't use 12.10 |
15:58 |
KikaRz |
no |
15:58 |

i prefer crunchbang |
15:58 |
VanessaE |

15:58 |

15:58 |

Yep, Lubuntu exists in the 12.04.1. |
15:58 |
KikaRz |

15:58 |
KikaRz |
*xubuntu |
15:58 |
VanessaE |
KikaRz: you can just install Ubuntu and then sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop |
15:58 |
KikaRz |
VanessaE, i should use xubuntu ? |
15:58 |
VanessaE |
it's up to you. |
15:59 |
KikaRz |
no, i prefer installing directly. |
15:59 |
Zeg9 |
xubuntu is really simple |
15:59 |
Zeg9 |
But then your choice... |
15:59 |
KikaRz |
Which is the more complicated? |
15:59 |
Zeg9 |
All are simple... |
15:59 |
Zeg9 |
to use or for the computer? |
15:59 |
VanessaE |
KikaRz: there is no difference between apt-get install xubuntu-desktop and just installing it from CD/DVD except that you still have gnome in the former case |
15:59 |
KikaRz |
... Who requires more of the computer? |
15:59 |
VanessaE |
Xubuntu install CD = Ubuntu + xubuntu-desktop - ubuntu-desktop |
15:59 |
VanessaE |
that's all. |
15:59 |
KikaRz |
Look, i tried to install Edubuntu |
16:00 |
KikaRz |
look to this: |
16:00 |
KikaRz |
512 MB of memory are required to the installation. |
16:00 |
KikaRz |
Only 511 MB are available. |
16:00 |
VanessaE |
use the "alternate" installer if there is one |
16:00 |
KikaRz |
The installation could fail in this circunstances. |
16:00 |
KikaRz |
XD |
16:00 |
VanessaE |
that's designed for smaller systems |
16:00 |
KikaRz |
thats too stupid |
16:00 |
KikaRz |
512 MB = My memory... |
16:00 |

16:57 |
neko259 |
Please look at the question :) |
16:57 |
PilzAdam |
neko259, the engine loops through all nodes in a chunk an calls ABM's |
16:57 |
|
rubenwardy joined #minetest |
16:57 |
neko259 |
So? |
16:57 |
PilzAdam |
if you add a node is may be possible that an ABM is called directly after this |
16:58 |
neko259 |
How can I get a workout around this? |
16:58 |
neko259 |
*workaround |
16:58 |
PilzAdam |
node_meta |
16:58 |
PilzAdam |
you push some values into it and reset it with a node timer |
16:59 |
neko259 |
Don't understand. |
16:59 |
neko259 |
Can you point me to a link? |
16:59 |
PilzAdam |
never seen this in code |
17:00 |
PilzAdam |
when you place a block in an ABM you set a field in nodemeta (e.g. "placed") |
17:00 |
PilzAdam |
if a abm is called you first check if "placed" exists |
17:00 |
PilzAdam |
if it does you dont go further |
17:01 |
neko259 |
Hmm, that's a nice idea. |
17:01 |
neko259 |
Thanks! |
17:01 |
PilzAdam |
after setting the "placed" in nodemeta you start a node timer to reset it after 1sec. or so |
17:01 |
PilzAdam |
so it will be called in the next abm |
17:01 |
neko259 |
Could you give me an example of a mod using node metadata? I haven't worked with it yet. |

hi RBA |
18:51 |
RealBadAngel |
we do have some really weird ones |
18:51 |
STHGOM |
Hello! |
18:51 |
RealBadAngel |
for example there are two recipes for rails |
18:51 |
RealBadAngel |
one gives 15 another one 16 pieces of rails |
18:52 |
RealBadAngel |
same for ladder, one gives 1 and second 3 |
18:52 |
PilzAdam |
maybe mods add extra recipes |
18:52 |
NakedFury |
remove the 1 ladder and 15 rails recipe |
18:52 |
STHGOM |
how do you make a doped sillicon wafer on Zeg9's server? |
18:53 |

1 ladder and 15 rails are from default mod |
18:53 |
RealBadAngel |
make mithril dust with grinder (out of mithril lumps) |
18:54 |

then what mod adds the other rails and ladders |
18:54 |

and put them with silicon waffers into alloy furnace |

2. i go to ubuntu app center and install Nvidia X.ORG (version 185) driver. |

VanessaE, not going to use DRUN IN PLACE. |
23:41 |
KikaRz |
when the compilation finishes, it adds there the bin |
23:41 |
KikaRz |
and the files |
23:41 |
KikaRz |
i've tested. |
23:42 |
KikaRz |
DRUN in place made my pc crash many times |
23:47 |
VanessaE |
OldCoder: oops, crashed. |
23:47 |
OldCoder |
It is nice |
23:47 |
VanessaE |
kika: -DRUN_IN_PLACE=1 will *not* make your machine crash. |
23:47 |
OldCoder |
I got a screenshot |
23:47 |
OldCoder |
VanessaE, this is your real house? |
23:47 |
VanessaE |
OldCoder: lemme see it - I don't know what it looks like with default textures. |
23:47 |
KikaRz |
YES IT DID |
23:47 |
KikaRz |
MY computer started being unresponsive |
23:47 |
OldCoder |
I will post |
23:47 |
KikaRz |
then: Poof. Cant move mouse / write anything with keyboard |
23:48 |
VanessaE |
OldCoder: yes, except the interior as seen on the server is a little different - some remodeling will be done and this is what it will look like when done |
23:48 |
VanessaE |
KikaRz: that wasn't RUN_IN_PLACE that did it |
23:48 |
VanessaE |
somethign else did |
23:49 |
KikaRz |
omg |
23:49 |
VanessaE |
KikaRz: more likely it was your video driver being stupid - this happens sometimes on some linux installs because the graphic card manufacturers are stupid :-) |
23:49 |
KikaRz |
hate when linux gets unresponsive |
23:49 |
VanessaE |
just as it does on windows. |
23:49 |
VanessaE |
you really should get a new video card. |
23:49 |
KikaRz |
... NOT THE FUCKING VIDEO CARD SHIT! |
23:49 |

23:53 |
VanessaE |

KikaRz |
GRR, only thing that i hate in Xubuntu... its that bar |
23:53 |
VanessaE |
what bar? |
23:53 |
KikaRz |
bottoom of screen |
23:53 |
VanessaE |
KikaRz: you can customize it like crazy if you want |
23:53 |
VanessaE |
make it smaller, remove it, move it, change what's on it. |
23:54 |
VanessaE |
it's quite flexible. |
23:54 |
VanessaE |
I put my popup launcher at the top and a regular "taskbar-style" panel at the bottom where it belongs |
23:54 |
VanessaE |
customized what's on them, changed their colors, autohide... |
23:55 |
KikaRz |
mine is red |
23:55 |
KikaRz |
ok |
23:55 |

KikaRz: in Minetest, lag means that the map generator is slow to load, or the machine is subject to occasional, temporary freezes. Lag does NOT mean low fps. |
