Seriously, the skeleton is a fucking rapist! The player cant draw their bow back that quick! |
00:01 |
VanessaE |
heh |
00:01 |
VanessaE |
and this is why I don't like the idea of hostile mobs |
00:01 |
VanessaE |
if I wanted those I'd play OpenArena. |
00:01 |
NekoGloop |
Well just dont make them more powerful than the player. |
00:02 |
T_A_N_K |
i wish minetest had atleast one real mob |

00:02 |

00:03 |

I was able to remove the mod after two days and no unknown entities |

even if they're nonsensical :-) |
00:05 |
NekoGloop |
Hm, maybe just cotton from flowers/farming |
00:05 |

4 cotton in a square makes 1 wool |

no flowers on redcrab's server :-) |
00:05 |
NekoGloop |
So? |
00:06 |

just so you know the rest because i am afk now: /setspawn, /spawn, you can die to respawn at spawn, you can set it so everytime a player logs back on they are at spawn, and i wouldn't recommend that unless you do something like skyblock |
00:36 |
T_A_N_K |
and newplayers go directly to spawn when it is set |

try printing yaw to console while you turn around, it goes from -4 to 1 to 7 I wouldn't trust it. Lua yaw isn't the same thing as F5 yaw. |

when you smash a block, 3d textured cubes scatter in random directions |
03:27 |

also, other mods can more easily hook into it |

do they use the old textures? |
03:27 |

they use whatever texture is in your game |

Will I be able to tell whether people are looking up or down any time soon? |
03:58 |
NekoGloop |
No |
03:59 |
T_A_N_K |
maybe |
03:59 |
T_A_N_K |
if someone can create a mod which plasters a node box to the players 2d body |
03:59 |
T_A_N_K |
then just make the 2d body texture opaqiue |
03:59 |
T_A_N_K |
and bam you have a 3d body |
04:00 |
T_A_N_K |
you could make custom skins that way |
04:00 |
T_A_N_K |
it would be awesome actually, maybe the nodebox would lag a little, but you could still see where the player looks |
04:01 |
T_A_N_K |
it would take quite a bit of code though |
04:01 |
khonkhortisan |
or the 2D texture could bend at the neck |
04:01 |
T_A_N_K |
but really, if you wanted a custom skin, just imgur it, and the server admin, and he could install it in, then set your player to use that skin |
04:01 |
T_A_N_K |
i think i'm thinking too far ahead |
04:02 |
khonkhortisan |
why when you could have a /skin mod? |
04:02 |
T_A_N_K |
because a skin mod would require what i just said, only slightly thicker than the 2d sprite, that'd be kind of easy |
04:02 |
T_A_N_K |
but i'm not doing it, i don't know how to get players position |
04:03 |
khonkhortisan |
player's position is easy, the hard part is rotating a nodebox |
04:03 |
khonkhortisan |
only raillike/plantlike/torchlike is allowed to have diagonal faces |
04:04 |
T_A_N_K |
get_look_pitch(): and get_look_dir(): |
04:04 |
T_A_N_K |
umm if you want to know how to rotate boxes look at this, http://minetest.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=629 |
04:05 |
T_A_N_K |
the only mob that made the game slightly challenging was the wolf, but they have no animation |
04:05 |
T_A_N_K |
it's kind of creepy |
04:05 |
NekoGloop |
Vombies just kind of randomly stop in the middle of nowhere |
04:06 |
T_A_N_K |
yea, the ai for that is too overcomplicated, i think sapier should just focus on 1 mob, and then really SUPE up the ai |
04:06 |
khonkhortisan |
those are luaentities, and can't collide with the player yet. |
04:06 |
T_A_N_K |
that's the point |
04:06 |
T_A_N_K |
they'll just "skin" the player |
04:06 |
khonkhortisan |
Yeah that would work for the player, just put it over, like clothes. |
04:06 |
T_A_N_K |
exactly, every 1 dtime or something |
04:07 |
T_A_N_K |
1 "tick" |
04:08 |
T_A_N_K |
shouldn't cause any server lag, the only thing i can see making the server a little laggy is if you pin a 3d model to the player |
04:08 |
T_A_N_K |
it's quite possible through lua, but very difficult |
04:19 |
cornernote |
is there a way to set on_receive_fields() for the player object ? |
04:19 |
NekoGloop |
Probably not? |
04:21 |

04:34 |
M13 |
do you know what OS is better than Ubuntu |
04:34 |
NekoGloop |
Windows |
04:34 |
VanessaE |
Ubuntu is not an OS, it is a distribution |
04:34 |
VanessaE |
but for most users it's about the best Linux distribution right now |
04:35 |
M13 |
its a Operating System |
04:35 |
VanessaE |
no. |
04:35 |
M13 |
?? |
04:35 |
VanessaE |
Linux is the operating system. |
04:35 |
M13 |
so ur saying Linux is a OS |
04:35 |
VanessaE |
(or GNU/Linux if you want to be pedantic about it) |
04:35 |
VanessaE |
yes, that is correct for all intents and purposes. |
04:35 |
M13 |
ok |
04:36 |
M13 |
Do you know what Distro is better than Ubuntu |
04:36 |
VanessaE |
depends on how you define "better: |
04:36 |
M13 |
Faster, smaller, More stable |
04:36 |
VanessaE |
if you mean easier to use, it's a toss-up between Ubuntu and Mint. If you mean for getting down and dirty with the OS, Gentoo. If you wanted to just run a good server, Debian maybe |
04:37 |
M13 |
nope |
04:37 |
M13 |
SliTaz |
04:37 |
M13 |

04:37 |

its iso is 15 MB |
04:37 |

I've never heard of any stability issues with Ubuntu that didn't eventually affect everyone else |
04:37 |
VanessaE |
that's just the installer. |
04:37 |
VanessaE |
it'll still take 5-10 GB of disk space once it's fully loaded. |
04:37 |
M13 |
takes 20 Seconds to install |
04:37 |
M13 |
No its not |
04:38 |
VanessaE |
most linux distributions download what they need from the net. |
04:38 |
M13 |
The iso is the live cd |
04:38 |
VanessaE |
a live CD is not an installer, but it may come with one. |
04:38 |
M13 |
yea |
04:38 |
M13 |
that is what i mean |
04:38 |
VanessaE |
a fully-installed system with everything the average person is likely to want takes around 5GB at the least. |
04:39 |
M13 |
The Live CD / Installer iso is 15 MB |
04:39 |
VanessaE |
and that includes all the stuff you'll eventually apt-get |
04:39 |
khonkhortisan |
found the compass |
04:39 |

I'm having these issues: http://pastebin.com/RHBtRk7z |
05:21 |
MachinaeWolf |
I have all dependencies and it built but keeps telling me that stuff |
05:21 |
hmmmm |
MachinaeWolf: Perhaps it cannot load crack_anylength.png. |
05:21 |
hmmmm |
Did you actually check the directory for that image...? |
05:21 |
MachinaeWolf |
well I'm assuming that's a default thing as it loads that on normal world... |
05:21 |
MachinaeWolf |
nope |
05:21 |
MachinaeWolf |
shouldn't it just be there...? |
05:22 |
VanessaE |
MachinaeWolf: that's not a fatal error, it means you're just missing a couple of images - maybe your install is damaged? |
05:22 |
hmmmm |
Wait, so you just downloaded it and as it gives you that error as is? |
05:22 |
hmmmm |
You haven't changed anything? |
05:22 |
MachinaeWolf |
nope all I did was add a mod folder in mods that's it |
05:22 |
MachinaeWolf |
but it gives those errors on default no mod world >_< |
05:22 |
MachinaeWolf |
so it ain't the mod's fault |
05:23 |
hmmmm |
You may have inadvertantly removed those images or replaced them. |
05:23 |
MachinaeWolf |
...how? |
05:23 |
hmmmm |
Try downloading a new copy of minetest, and replacing the images with those |
05:23 |
MachinaeWolf |
k |
05:23 |
MachinaeWolf |
goes it textures folder? |
05:24 |
hmmmm |
Should go in games/minetest_game/mods/default/textures |
05:24 |
MachinaeWolf |
yeah there was no default there |
05:25 |
hmmmm |
You totally nuked your default game directory somehow. I'd just redownload at this point and transfer over your worlds. |
05:26 |
MachinaeWolf |
but all I did was follow build directions... |
05:26 |
MachinaeWolf |
the hell? |
05:26 |
hmmmm |
Beats me. |
05:27 |
NekoGloop |
Maybe because you're using linux |

05:27 |

nope |
05:27 |
NekoGloop |
It's completely a solution |
05:27 |
hmmmm |
No. It's not. |
05:27 |
NekoGloop |
Just not the one you like. |
05:27 |
MachinaeWolf |
Um I picked the latest stable source |
05:28 |
MachinaeWolf |
so how would re-grabbing it help? |
05:28 |
MachinaeWolf |
When I was going to do the same instructions again... |
05:28 |
NekoGloop |
And windows gets prebuilt versions |
05:28 |
MachinaeWolf |
well this one has an old version but that doesn't have the mod support |
05:28 |
MachinaeWolf |
so that's why I'm building it |
05:28 |
hmmmm |
Oh, are you completely missing minetest_game? |
05:29 |
MachinaeWolf |
nah I have that |
05:29 |
hmmmm |
But it's obviously not complete because you're missing those images |
05:29 |

Try viewing them in an external image viewer... |
05:34 |

works |
05:34 |

No idea.. |
05:34 |
hmmmm |
both crack_anylength.png and heart.png are there? |
05:34 |
hmmmm |
in the same directory as all the other textures? |
05:34 |
MachinaeWolf |
yep and both load and yes |
05:36 |
MachinaeWolf |
Now what? |
05:37 |
hmmmm |
Hrm |
05:37 |
hmmmm |
If it were a file not found type of error, you should've seen "SourceImageCache::getOrLoad(): No path found for heart.png" |
05:38 |

Is it looking in the wrong directory? |
05:57 |
hmmmm |
I really would like to get to the bottom of this but in the meantime, to patch it over, I guess you could put it in texture_path |
05:58 |
hmmmm |
in minetest.conf add a line |
05:58 |
hmmmm |
texture_path = /home/todd/mt_textures |
05:58 |
hmmmm |
and then make a directory called mt_textures in your home directory |
05:58 |
hmmmm |
and put heart.png and crack_anylength.png in there |
05:58 |
hmmmm |
copy them there |
05:58 |
hmmmm |
and see if that'll work |
05:59 |
hmmmm |
If after this it still doesn't work, then something is busted with the cache |

07:31 |
cy1 |
oh wait, no just random. |
07:31 |
cy1 |
my mod of the flowers mod uses a lot of perlin |
07:32 |
hmmmm |
basically everything that's supposed to be random is better looking with perlin :p |
07:32 |
cy1 |
perlin is the interpolated patterns though, like hills instead of just random heights |
07:33 |
hmmmm |
yeah |
07:33 |
hmmmm |
the myrand() sucks as well |
07:33 |
hmmmm |
it's a basic implementation of an LCG, but in every instance he calls it, he uses the lower bits which don't have very much enthropy |
07:34 |
hmmmm |
so even the pure random could be more random |

PilzAdam |
try it for players, maybe it works |
13:21 |

what do i put for group1 and for rating |
13:21 |
PilzAdam |
and can you please use only the fleshy group for armor? |
13:21 |
cornernote |
and how do i see if its working ? |
13:21 |
PilzAdam |
make a local game and connect to loachost with 2 clients |
13:21 |
cornernote |
how about this... |
13:22 |
cornernote |
i really want this to work with your mobs mod |
13:22 |
PilzAdam |
my mobs use this: self.object:set_armor_groups({fleshy=3}) |
13:22 |
cornernote |
formspec is all done, just gotta add some lines to increase/decrease armor |
13:22 |
PilzAdam |
higher armor would be: self.object:set_armor_groups({fleshy=2}) |
13:22 |
cornernote |
ok, i see |
13:22 |
PilzAdam |
use player: instead of self.object: |
13:22 |
cornernote |
so on equip, i just increase the X in self.object:set_armor_groups({fleshy=X}) |
13:23 |
PilzAdam |
yes |
13:23 |
cornernote |
whats the highest ? |
13:23 |
PilzAdam |
3 = lowest 1 = highest |
13:23 |
cornernote |
int or float ? |
13:23 |
PilzAdam |
int |
13:23 |
cornernote |
damn |
13:23 |
cornernote |
there are 4 items of armor |
13:23 |
cornernote |
and 3 types |
13:24 |
PilzAdam |
use stone, steel, mese |
13:24 |
Jordach |
PilzAdam - wooden armour |
13:24 |
cornernote |
yes, got the textures all done from Jordach |
13:24 |
PilzAdam |
wooden armor is stupid |
13:24 |
cornernote |
but lets say... |
13:24 |
cornernote |
dont worry about those details atm |
13:24 |
PilzAdam |
maybe replace stone with leather |
13:25 |
cornernote |
items can easily change |
13:25 |
cornernote |
say i have a helmet |
13:25 |
cornernote |
its wood |
13:25 |
Jordach |
PilzAdam - or would you have leather, which could use mobf or pilz's mobs |
13:25 |
cornernote |
it gives +1 |
13:25 |
cornernote |
then i have the boots, chest, +1 +1 |
13:25 |
cornernote |
im at max |
13:25 |
cornernote |
:( |
13:25 |
PilzAdam |
cornernote, we can create more values for armor |
13:25 |
Jordach |
like cracky |
13:26 |
cornernote |
i'll commit what i have tomorrow, got to go to bed |
13:26 |
PilzAdam |
we just need to rewrite the default swords and my mob mod |
13:26 |
cornernote |
then we can perhaps have a fiddle with some code and ideas |
13:26 |
Jordach |
minetest_game commit anyone? |
13:26 |
PilzAdam |
what? |
13:27 |
Jordach |
when done |
13:27 |
cornernote |
that would be nice, but we have a bit before this is stable to merge to minetest_game |
13:27 |
Jordach |
i know |
13:27 |
Jordach |
thats what i mean |
13:28 |
PilzAdam |
cornernote, why make 4 types of armor? just make 1 |
13:28 |
Jordach |
(and make some multi code so bags and this will work together) |
13:28 |
PilzAdam |
1 armor slot is enough |
13:28 |
cornernote |
yeah, been thinking about that |
13:28 |
PilzAdam |
then we dont have to change much |
13:28 |
cornernote |
easy to code it, but hard to make it into a nice api that others can use |
13:29 |
PilzAdam |
in my mobs mos i have 3= full damage; 2=damage-1; 1=damage-2 |
13:30 |
PilzAdam |
dirt monster have 2 damage -> armor 1 would prevent damage at all |
13:30 |
PilzAdam |
stone monsters have damage 3 |
13:30 |
PilzAdam |
sand monsters have damage 1 |
13:31 |
PilzAdam |
armor > 3 will cause that sand monsters cant damage the player at all |
13:31 |
Jordach |
yep. |
13:32 |

hit ratio is 1/sec. |

18:03 |

yeah I saw that in (and posted on) the thread tracking this mod |
18:04 |

the textures for the particles are the dig result or the texture of the node itself |

so every node in the game has particles |

someone needs to write a program that will go through a minetest map, pick out everything that's been modified, and apply all of those changes on top of a new map with the same seed. |
21:19 |
VanessaE |
force the mapgen to re-generate the unmodified territory, so that stuff like moreores can start generating in parts of the map that haven't been altered |
21:20 |
jordach |
:-) +99 |
21:24 |
hmmmm |
i suppose what you could do is generate a new map with all the same sectors that exist on the old one, find differences if any, and save those |
21:24 |
hmmmm |
it's very simple |
21:24 |
VanessaE |
that's exactly what I propose |
21:24 |
hmmmm |
oh wait, that is what you said pretty much |
21:24 |
VanessaE |
yeah, I just tend to be a little verbose |
21:25 |

basically what would be needed is for you to pull the mapgen from minetest, the sqlite code, and it's absolutely trivial |

khonkhortisan: nodes only jump down because there's nothing in the protocol to "move" node contents, like, at all. All it can do is tell you a node has been destroyed in one place, and another created in another. Sort of screwy, but if the protocol had node movement you could smoothly move 'em in the client. |
23:40 |
cy1 |
As-is there's no way for the client to guess that a destroyed node will be imminently created one block over, so animation is difficult if not impossible. |
23:41 |
Phitherek_ |
