02:44 paramat you wrote a lot of nonsense and insults today, not appreciated

07:38 jas_ luk3yx: that's a great question!  what's the difference between minetest.serialize and minetest.write_json, i have no idea.
07:38 jas_ i always used minetest.serialize, because i don't know what json is.
07:39 luk3yx minetest.serialize() writes text in a valid lua format (return {key = "value"}) while JSON uses... well... JSON ({"key": "value"})
07:39 luk3yx Maybe I should try benchmarking them.
07:40 jas_ hm, interesting

14:13 IhrFussel !tell paramat I didn't insult ANYONE, I voiced my opinion about the current way you release 5.0.X ... Also if devs would implement more features server owners actually WANT they would likely also be motivated to test those features... but as of now many useful server features were ignored or even denied
14:13 MinetestBot IhrFussel: yeah, yeah
14:15 IhrFussel Not saying you added 0 useful things for servers, but there are many many open feature requests/bug reports that you somehow didn't care about till this day
14:16 rubenwardy what useful features are you talking about?
14:18 IhrFussel Just scroll back a few months or even 1-2 years... many people had GOOD suggestions to add and I understand when there is not enough time to implement all of those...but I kinda feel like nowadays you move on to quickly and leave many feature requests behind... you don't even comment on them or add a reaction...nothing
14:20 IhrFussel I'm also not sure what the 'supported by core dev' label is supposed to do... if no one wants to code it, it doesn't matter if a core dev wants it or not ... or do those automatically have higher priority?
14:22 rubenwardy idk
14:22 rubenwardy there are quite a lot of issues, and it's hard to manage
14:23 rubenwardy maybe make a list of the ones you'd find most useful?
14:23 rubenwardy kinda like here: https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=19038
14:23 rubenwardy but from a user point of view
14:23 IhrFussel You could for example go through older requests and give each a 'score' and then create a poll for the community with things you would be willing to add...then the community could vote on what's most important to them
14:25 IhrFussel That 'score' could have many factors suh as complexity, approx required dev time, usefulness etc
14:25 rubenwardy most people work on what bothers them the most
14:25 IhrFussel such*
14:26 IhrFussel I think that is a key problem with MT development...devs only code what THEY think is good for the community...they don't necessarily ask if the community would like/appreciate that
14:28 IhrFussel There are also different groups within the community so all will likely never agree to something, but the majority could count
14:31 IhrFussel Many server owners want to offer the most special and unique gameplay in MT and they need lots of features for that to work... I'm happy that you added a few brand new API calls, but many other suggested ones were ignored (or overlooked, not trying to assume things here)

14:38 tenplus1 hi folks :)
14:38 VanessaE hi
14:38 rubenwardy o/
14:38 tenplus1 hi Vanessa :) hey ruben
14:38 tenplus1 took me 6 attempts to get into room, is anything up ?
14:38 VanessaE no?
14:39 VanessaE just IhrFussel crabbing about MT dev, but that won't affect joins :P
14:39 tenplus1 straaaaaaaange
14:39 tenplus1 lol, whassup with mt dev ?
14:39 rubenwardy IhrFussel crabbing and that ruben being a dick
14:39 tenplus1 o.O
14:40 * tenplus1 hasn't tasted flight, but donuts are just as nice :D
14:41 VanessaE rubenwardy: now ya done it.  you just gave He Who Has a Persecution Complex another adjective to describe you with (or to associate with illegal activities) :P
14:42 IhrFussel Hi tenplus1
14:42 tenplus1 hi fussel
14:42 tenplus1 I wonder if there's a list of how many players use what version of minetest
14:45 rubenwardy yes
14:46 rubenwardy Techy5 on discord is logging it
14:46 tenplus1 ah kewl, when it hits a certain percentage I'll prolly move Xanadu to 5.0
14:52 tenplus1 thanks for the CDB help ruben :) it's all good now
14:59 ANAND Has 5.0.0 been released on the Play Store yet?
14:59 tenplus1 hi anand, it's still in dev
14:59 ANAND I still see the 0.4.17.22 version
14:59 ANAND Oh.
14:59 ANAND Hi :)
14:59 tenplus1 o/
15:00 ANAND But... I thought the PC version and the Android version were released at the same time
15:00 tenplus1 when it's a stable release, yes :)
15:01 tenplus1 (hopefully)
15:03 tenplus1 no new issues appear Vanessa ? all running well ?
15:03 VanessaE tenplus1: one thing,
15:03 tenplus1 what's that ?
15:03 VanessaE [03-06 17:05] <MOZ@VSrv> Vanessa - and there is a problem with chainsaw and vines... since all different vines go to the brown vines.... if you saw a tree the vines are staying in the air....
15:04 rubenwardy ANAND: it's in the beta release channel
15:04 VanessaE idk if that's a vines bug, or a technic/chainsaw issue
15:04 VanessaE figured I should let you know.
15:04 VanessaE that aside, no confirmed issues
15:04 ANAND Ah I see
15:04 tenplus1 the registering of the leafdecay may either need to contain "group:vines" or have chainsaw look for those
15:05 VanessaE some people are complaining that trees and other stuff are very slow to grow since 5.0.0
15:05 ANAND Signing up for beta now, thanks!
15:05 VanessaE but idk where the problem lies, if there even is one.
15:05 tenplus1 0.4.17 changed saplings so they need light to grow, that shoudl remain the same in 5.0 unless nodetimer numbers were tweaked
15:06 tenplus1 will compare
15:06 VanessaE moretrees saplings, that is.  not your department of course.
15:06 VanessaE but may have the same underlying cause as other-stuff-grows-slow
15:06 tenplus1 ohhh, my bad :) thought you meant default
15:07 VanessaE someone earlier said they suspect node timer issues.
15:07 tenplus1 check timings against default and tweak
15:07 tenplus1 I still use abms for ethereal saplings:) heh
15:09 VanessaE I haven't changed any of my timer code in like, 6 months, that's why I'm not calling it "confirmed"
15:10 VanessaE I think I'm just dealing with impatient players :P
15:10 tenplus1 heh yeah...  do the large tree schematics still cause lighting issues ?
15:11 VanessaE idk, I don't use schematics :)
15:11 VanessaE (L-system)
15:11 VanessaE or well, moretrees doesn't..
15:11 tenplus1 o.O OMG, I forgot about that :) ahahaha
15:11 VanessaE that said, I haven't seen lighting glitches from those in a very loooooooooooong time.
15:12 tenplus1 amhoping 5.0 ahs fixed all that
15:12 tenplus1 popping onto minetest-mods to checkout moretrees :D
15:15 ANAND Is it possible to access textures of other mods at runtime?
15:15 VanessaE tenplus1: gitlab
15:16 VanessaE none of my minetest-mods copies are official or up-to-date.  not since June :P
15:16 tenplus1 anand, yes... if texture is already loaded form another mod you can use
15:16 tenplus1 ooh, gitlab it is *shudder*
15:16 VanessaE (sofar: please please please just kill those)
15:16 rubenwardy ANAND: there's no namespacing of textures - they act like they're all in the same folder
15:17 rubenwardy the modname_ thing is just a convention
15:17 VanessaE ^ and a good one, at that.
15:17 ANAND Is it enough to just pass the texture name? I get an empty texture.
15:17 VanessaE rubenwardy: I wonder if that should be enforced by now, given how entrenched the convention is.
15:17 tenplus1 anand, gotta make sure the mod is loaded BEFORE you use the texture from another
15:17 tenplus1 use a soft depend in depends.txt  e.g.    farming?
15:17 VanessaE tenplus1: mod.conf.
15:18 ANAND :P
15:18 rubenwardy actually, not true as textures aren't resolved server-side
15:18 rubenwardy so dependencies don't affect texture loading
15:18 ANAND Yes, that's what I thought
15:18 rubenwardy you should still depend if you require the texture, but only to inform the user
15:18 tenplus1 ahh kewl :D
15:18 rubenwardy the server just sends all the textures to the client, as if they were in one folder
15:19 ANAND I get an empty texture though. Is there any way to debug this?
15:19 sofar VanessaE: please put the mod names in the github thread, I have to dig through a mountain of snow today to get to work
15:19 VanessaE sofar: ok.
15:20 VanessaE link please?
15:20 VanessaE having trouble finding it.
15:21 ANAND I'm using minetest.registered_items[stack:get_name()].inventory_image to retrieve the textures of the items
15:22 ANAND I've also provided a fallback texture in case the above statement is nil.
15:23 ANAND But the fallback texture doesn't show up. I gain that this means the texture does exist.
15:24 tenplus1 vanessa, in your default settings for moretrees the interval for sapling growth is 500 and chance of 20...  this seems long... in ethereal it's 10 for interval and 50 for chance
15:24 tenplus1 both wiht light checking
15:24 VanessaE it's been that way since forever..
15:25 VanessaE big trees should take a long-ass time to gros.
15:25 VanessaE grow*
15:25 twoelk joined #minetest-hub
15:25 tenplus1 very true :) but 500 interval is a long time, I use that as a fallback in farming for setting up timers
15:25 tenplus1 hi twoelk
15:25 twoelk o/
15:27 Fixer O,,,,,,O
15:27 tenplus1 hi fixe
15:27 tenplus1 *r
15:29 Fixer hi tenplus
15:29 Fixer 1*
15:30 tenplus1 :P
15:31 tenplus1 Default Sapling = timer between 5 and 25 minutes before growth (if dark then reset timer to 5 minutes)
15:32 tenplus1 Ethereal Sapling = timer every 10 seconds with 1 in 50 chance of growth
15:32 tenplus1 MoreTrees Sapling = timer every 8.5 minutes with 1 in 20 chance of growth
15:33 VanessaE tenplus1: pull requests welcome :)
15:34 tenplus1 prolly just set interval to 1 or 2 mins, would make it fast enough to stop players being impatient :D
15:37 tenplus1 er... am trying to figure how gitlab works :D
16:07 tenplus1 Bonemeal Mod updated (usage limits on certain nodes)
16:15 tenplus1 e.g. if you use on dirt, it sprouts decoration only on dirt :P
16:20 * twoelk decides to hide his powerfull bonemeal
16:20 tenplus1 ehehe

18:18 Calinou funny thing (in 0.4.17 at least), having more than 1,000 FPS will cause footstep sounds to spam whenever you're not moving
18:18 Calinou (this can be reproduced more easily in dungeons as it's easy to achieve high FPS in those)
