My disk space on my server is FULL... now I need to stop ANY map generation ... mapgen_limit = 100 will do that right? |
13:30 |
Krock |
yes, but it might also reset the players on join to (0,0,0) |
13:30 |
Krock |
or wherever the spawn is |

when it's full you also cannot write to the player database (if only a few kilobytes are free) |
13:32 |
Krock |
delete old log files, your 10 GiB debug.txt and old backups. Hopefully that will gain some space again |
13:33 |
IhrFussel |
My debug.txt is only 200-300 MB nowadays I made bash scripts that cleanup trash files after each restart automatically, there is not much I can do there |

36 MB are free now, enough to start the server with no map generation? |
13:36 |
Krock |
enough until the generated map has more buildings (reduced compression ratio) |
13:39 |
IhrFussel |
I guess I can move my debug.txt somewhere else to gain another 200 MB |
13:41 |
Krock |
symlink the log files to another partition and consider to either trim the map using a script or to get a VPS space upgrade |
13:41 |

s/space/storage/ |
13:47 |
IhrFussel |
Krock, I already have a storage space (250 GB) the problem is that the actual operating space is only 60 GB ... so I'll have to ask for an upgrade tomorrow |
13:47 |
Krock |
weird that you cannot use the other 190 GiB then |
13:48 |
Krock |
well, 10 GiB for the OS (even if it may not need that much) |
13:48 |
IhrFussel |
Cause that's a separate "backup space" |

I made now a script that posts the current free disk space in the chat every 10 minutes ... that way I can relax a bit again |

IhrFussel: do "log rotation" =-> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Log_rotation |
14:24 |
IhrFussel |
Log rotation won't help much when 98% of storage is used by map.sqlite |
14:25 |
IhrFussel |
At least it's not 100% map ... or else I wouldn't know what to do now to gain at least some more free space |
14:25 |
Fixer |
log rotate to that backup space (with archival) |
14:25 |
IhrFussel |
The backup space doesn't matter, I cannot run the server on it ... the map has to be on the normal storage which is limited to 60 GB |
14:26 |
IhrFussel |
Or are you saying I need to somehow link map.sqlite in the worlds dir to the DB on my external space? |
14:27 |
IhrFussel |
If that is possible that sounds extremely risky |
14:32 |
Fixer |
don't saying anything, but if you do, always do full backups ._. |

i'm pretty sad right now, I just saw a place with thousands of probably still working recent servers, under the rain waiting to be disasembled. |
16:33 |
Peppy |
the guy whos showed me says he can't hit for single users or small compagnies one by one. |
16:33 |
Peppy |
this word is going mad :( |
16:34 |
Fixer |
tons of people will buy that |
16:35 |

also, why dissassemble? |

palletized and wrapped as far as your eyes can see. |

is it in garbage bins? |
16:36 |
Peppy |
because the guy is paid for that |
16:36 |
Fixer |
it is ridiculous to see so much waste, those servers can run probably for another 10 years easily |
16:37 |
Peppy |
it's not a garbage bin, there wan't room enough in the storage |
16:37 |
Peppy |
the storage had even more inside |
16:37 |

will go into recycling? |
16:37 |

almost new, "nobody wants those, I get 40 every week" |

Fixer: limit population, rely on renewable energies, recycle non-regrowing materials and somehow obsolete plastic. What a wonderful world if this were so easy |
17:32 |
Fixer |
the only problem is Africa population, everything else does not need limit anymore, it goes down |
17:35 |
Fixer |
it will go down by itself, but I have no idea how they will live with such crazy amount of people |
17:38 |

"A X button is non-standard" did I understand that correctly and rubenwardy implies a button named "X" is not standard? Then I have to disagree cause EVERY major desktop OS uses the X as "close window" |
19:57 |
IhrFussel |
Maybe I just misunderstood that part though |
19:58 |
VanessaE |
where was this? |
19:58 |
IhrFussel |
'X' as button is especially useful when dealing with multiple languages cause chances are very high that anybody understands what X means |
19:58 |
VanessaE |
an [X] button *is* non-standard on a formspec, but otherwise you are quite correct. |
19:59 |
IhrFussel |
VanessaE, https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?p=338083#p338083 |
19:59 |
IhrFussel |
Why are formspecs something else compared to other windows displayed? I see them as pretty much the same except you cannot minize/move them |
20:00 |
IhrFussel |
minimize* |
20:01 |
VanessaE |
it's non-standard because hardly no one was designing formspecs with [X] buttons until Android/iOS ports of Minetest showed up, and suddenly no one can exit a formspec (no Esc key, natch) |
20:02 |
VanessaE |
where I include one, I use an image button to at least *try* to look like a close button, instead of a labeled button that looks simply lazy |
20:02 |
|
Gael-de-Sailly joined #minetest-hub |
20:03 |
VanessaE |
of course, tap outside the formspec works now to close it. |
20:03 |
VanessaE |
but not many people can remember that (and sometimes it doesn't work) |
20:03 |
VanessaE |
so 2, 3 years ago? non-standard for sure. Now? not entirely standard, but recommended. |
20:05 |
IhrFussel |
I would still say "close" is more difficult to understand for non-ENglish speakers than X |
20:06 |
IhrFussel |
It doesn't have to be just the letter 'X' it can also be an image with a bold cross ... it is essentially the same |
20:06 |
Krock |
you could also use colors or image buttons |
20:07 |
Krock |
there's even a mod which builds Windows window decorations using formspec elements |
20:11 |
IhrFussel |
I didn't know that you can tap outside a formspec to close it...I always press the 'back' button on my phone to close them cause many formspecs don't even have a close button (like UI AFAIK) |
20:16 |
rubenwardy |
X is nonstandard in formspecs, and should not be used |
20:16 |
rubenwardy |
If you want them, you should use formspec prepends instead |
20:16 |
rubenwardy |
So it's on every formspec |
20:17 |
rubenwardy |
Or you could modify the engine |
20:17 |
rubenwardy |
Pressing back is also nonstandard on android for how we use it |
20:17 |
rubenwardy |
It should be up or an X instead |
