hi admins |
12:53 |
atorian37 |
i hope there is some help for me here |
12:54 |
atorian37 |
i use futureban mod to ban players and these days, a player chatted with another one and told him, he has a hack to connect even if he is banned. |
12:54 |
atorian37 |
i checked that, it's true, he connected even if he is in the ipban.txt file |
12:55 |

CWz joined #minetest-hub |
12:56 |
atorian37 |
he is in the ban list with another ip but the playername is also there, is that behavior normal? |
12:59 |
Shara |
Depends on the ban mod. |
13:00 |
Shara |
Both xban and sban group player names/IP addresses, but I have no idea how futureban works |
13:06 |

maybe I should use another mod? wich one is most popular to securily ban (without using the systems firewall)? |
13:08 |
IhrFussel |
You can only ban an IP or a IP range in MT...there is nothing more secure |
13:09 |
Shara |
xban is well used, sban is newer but well maintained and issues get fixed quick. I go with sban myself because I prefer to have a proper db for bans, but it's really up to you |
13:09 |
IhrFussel |
IP range can match false positives (people from the same ISP for example) |
13:09 |
atorian37 |
I thought it a good idea with futureban, because it adds the new ip to the player in ipban.txt if it changes, but it seems not to work anymore because of a hack from the client |
13:10 |
Shara |
I don't see how a client could "hack" a way to dodge bans. But since I don't know the mod, I can't really say what might be wrong |
13:11 |
atorian37 |
I have no idea, because I am no developper - I cannot read/understand the code in the deep |
13:12 |
Shara |
I can't even find futureban from a quick search |
13:12 |
atorian37 |
ok I check the author |
13:12 |
Shara |
But th eonly post I found about it akes it sound like it's meant to be used with another ban mod anyway |
13:12 |
Shara |
makes* |
13:13 |
Shara |
So I'd suggest picking one of the other mods I named |
13:15 |
atorian37 |
the code is here: hhtps://github.com/nyje/future_ban |
13:16 |
atorian37 |
ok I guess thats what I will do |
13:17 |
Shara |
Yea, that doesn't look well supported or... anything really. No license, no documentation, no recent updates. |

Thank you! I will give sban a try :) |
13:30 |

for sban, can I just install lsqlite3 with apt install on my server, does the sban create the db itself ...? |

13:31 |
benrob0329 |

13:33 |
red-001 |
atorian37, I guess they just restart their router to get a new IP address |
13:34 |
red-001 |
also future ban only bans the player by name |
13:34 |
red-001 |
and only once |

13:47 |
IhrFussel |
Maybe I should send it regularly in the chat as info message |
13:48 |
Raven262 |
IhrFussel, try adding a chat message that appears every 3 minutes, saying some of the rules. :P |
13:55 |
IhrFussel |
Raven262, not every 3 but there is a server info every 5 minutes that lists AFK players and I can add it there |
13:56 |
Raven262 |
Yeah, but that would make a long message. On android clients this can cover up the whole screen. |
13:56 |

Better add another interval or something. |

atorian37: I recommend either xban or sban. xban is more stable, but may suffer from data loss after longer periods of time. sban is fairly unstable |
16:41 |
Mr_Pardison |

16:41 |

because it's failed to ban players multiple times |

Look at this: http://gingercat.tk/dg/porthole_problem.png |

The water surface is a couple of nodes above |
23:26 |
Shara |
But within that node, you see a new water surface |
23:27 |
Shara |
Why would water go inside a nodebox? |
23:27 |
Shara |
I can noclip inside it, see air, and see a water surface both below and above me |
23:29 |
Shara |
And then on other nodeboxes, the water texture can be seen flashing on their sides instead |

wth, where is that PR with alpha texures, no way it is closed |
23:31 |
Shara |
Hmm, oddly, whether it flickers seems like it might have something to do with height (y) placement |

I'd also love to make clouds volumetric |

Shara: bump this https://github.com/minetest/minetest/issues/5083 |
23:33 |
rubenwardy |
so when you're inside the fog is closer and white, also less weird edge effects when inside |
23:33 |

Fixer: There was another issue which had something about this, and which even had a video wuzzy posted of my exact problem |

Shara: about ice? |
23:33 |
Shara |
And I'm not even sure what this second water level inside a node thing is to do with |

Fixer: yes |
